I love this concept for a video, so many of these kibbe/kitchener essences only focus on dressing 'within your type' which basically means never dressing alt ever. It's cool to see someone apply them to a dark aesthetic instead of just what's mainstream/trendy. Also omg finally someone else who knows helter skelter, I feel like no one ever talks about it!
Thank you 🖤 and agreed, also I was really inspired because I was tired of hearing that dressing dark or alt means dressing "disharmonious" with your essence - which absolutely is a valid method but you dont always have to dress against your essence to have a dark aesthetic 🖤
I am 90% sure that I am a classic/romantic and the funny thing about wearing black is that it often doesn’t look edgy, but just.. classy? It’s very hard for me to look “goth” or alternative. Even if I’m wearing all black, and black or red nails, red lips, it just looks like I’m going for a classy look VS an edgy one. Same thing even if I’m wearing a corset. It’s very interesting!
As a "white goth" with some ethereal essence, I take so much inspo from Tilda Swinton. If you have any more ideas for goths who don't do dark colors, I'd love to hear your thoughts :)
Yes absolutely! I love Tilda Swinton so much and can see her as amazing inspiration for goths - I will have more references when I do individual breakdowns of each of the Dark Essences that will show not just black 🖤
I've always wanted to have a goth or goth adjacent look when I was younger but couldn't because the family didn't approve it and I didn't have the money to create a wardrobe with that specific look. I feel this video is timely for me personally, since I'm older, have separated myself from family, and have adult money, I've been getting back into achieving a goth or goth adjacent aesthetic. Thank you for this video, excellent starting off point and inspiration for me.
I think Bjork can be considered a good source of Ethereal inspo as well - I mean her latest era of space princess-worthy gowns and masks which look as if made of magical insects. Also, her face definitely is out of this world. And she once made a music video (for "Pagan Poetry") showing - among other interesting things - pearls being sewn onto her bare skin. What can be more Goth than some kinky stuff?
I love Bjork! Idk if she's considered goth music but I argue some of her albums are - nonetheless she is absolutely a Dark Aesthetic muse & I am doing individual breakdowns of each essence with more examples coming soon!
Thank you for this video. As somebody who feels like she is soft, but not soft enought for pink and cute looks, but somehow edgy but not edgy enough for some super dark and serious looks i found this helpful. My angular-cute essence fits gamine pretty well! And the lowkey playfullness i been doing for years. Very cool video thank you
I loved this video! The common descriptions of ingenue like “sweet”, “delicate”, and “light” does not fit my personality or identity. This video was a great inspiration on how to incorporate dark aesthetics into my ingenue essence. Side note: I recently found your channel and am very happy to have found a fashion creator with a dark aesthetic. I have problems with dressing for my ethereal essence. I've always loved the etherealness of exotic dancers but im not sure how to make that into a style.
Thank you 🖤 and when taking inspiration from exotic dancers theres so many ways to go about it, whether its taking note of the glamour they incorporate or one of my favorite methods is buying vintage lingerie or slips and wearing them in a casual way - also look into VictoriaJade on instagram, shes a dear friend & a burlesque dancer who incorporates that glam into her everyday wardrobe 🖤
@@silkymochi thanks for the advice! I couldn't find VictoriaJade on Instagram but I've found other burlesque dancers and I found a lot of inspo, thanks!
Omg thank you so much for this!! I always get so thrown off trying to find my style essence because most of the examples and assessments a) rely on stereotypes, and b) rarely think about alt styles within this context. I think a lot of people see alt styles as either costumes or “aesthetics” meant to make a statement (and often conflate them all with Dramatic, for that reason). Consequently, they don’t consider that many of us still want to look as “put together” and conducive to our essences as the non-alt people do.
I am so excited for this! I have the hardest time explaining that I like ingengue, but in black sheer delicate layers, dark little ditsy prints, pearls and silver but no pastels, little white, and more "consumptive maidenhood" than "cute girlishness
It is different in some ways! I always love a darker take on things & felt like I couldn't resonate with some of the style suggestions I kept hearing but I do love watching other creators on essences 🖤

I don’t have a dark aesthetic but still loved this take. I think applying the essences in this way really helped to highlight the differences without relying on the stereotypical tropes too heavily and the same old images…
I've been NEEDING a video like this! Thank you so much! I want to know more, in depth about every essence and how to do the goth for every individual. If there is more to learn than I am very interested. This video helped me pinpoint a bit more on how I can do my own styling for a darker aesthetic. Thank you so much for posting! 🖤
I will definitely be doing an individual breakdown for each of the essences that I couldn't fit into this video! But it will be Dark Aesthetic emphasis since goth is a music subculture 🖤 you can dress however you want and be goth!
Every single reference that you pulled for each essence and aesthetic has been inspirations for me for years of my lifetime so far. Especially Angelina, dita von teese, gabbriette and Morticia. I naturally enjoy a darker aesthetic and love pulling Inspo from different essences. I genuinely appreciated this video and will share with everyone that ik will appreciate it as well. I have never seen anyone discuss this ever and I think it’s actually such an important topic. Immediate subscribe. Loved this.
YEESS!! 🖤 🦇 💀 🥀 Would love to hear more about dark essence! I am an ingenue classic and my style has always been dark which is opposite to my essence. I’ve been trying to mix classic minimalism with short more compact silhouettes (I’m also FG), some delicate, intricate details, and an overall black-and-white color palette and it’s working for me. Please make more videos about dark essence in detail, I’ve been looking for this type of content since I discovered Kibbe and Kitchener. Love your videos!! 🖤🖤🖤
Thank you thank you! Yes, I'm thinking of doing an in depth breakdown of each Dark Essence, create a moodboard for each one & talk about more examples!
Amazing video as always! Every essence I was like "oh! That's me!" haha I'm sure that happens to a lot of us. I really enjoyed how you explained ethereal and how the explanation itself became ethereal on its own.
Thank you so much Jenny! And soon you'll find out your essence either way 🖤 I appreciate that so much, I was researching so many possible examples for Ethereal & eventually concluded if you really want to be ethereal you need to go for OUT THERE type of inspirations lol
You mentioned how there's a short hairstyle for every essence, and that peaked my interest a lot. Would you be willing to talk more about it in the future?
And I mean it! Look how good Gabriette or Angelina looks, and I rarely wear eyemakeup because my eyes get irritated easy lol lips, brows, and your outfit can still exude a dark aesthetic 🖤
This was fantastic! I'd love deep dives for all of these tbh. I think I'm getting a better sense of the essences and my original instinct for myself was not far off
I love this video so much, im all about dark aesthetic and since getting into kibbe and essense i was struggling in how to incorporate dark styling as an ingenue
Omg. I finally made my first Vixen by Micheline Pitt purchases and I didn’t think “vintage inspired” was right for me, but almost everything I get from her looks amazing on me and you connecting it to romantic essence made it click for me! Tysm!
Awesome breakdown of the essences 😻 to me Jenna Ortega leans more gamine as opposed to ingenue, not saying the ingenue is completely absent though..! Christina Ricci’s features have more of the dainty rounded-ness, doll like feeling - and would say the same of Devon Aoki too (though her personal style is not necessarily dark or gothic). Gamines have a more mischievous vibe (I think of Peter Pan) while ingénue gives more of sweet/innocent vibe?! Love that you included Gabriette as a muse, her style is so cool. 💕
Jenna Ortega absolutely has Gamine essence but I try not to repeat muses & really wanted to talk about Prudence for Gamine 🖤 but for the Ingenue it more so the idea of Wednesday - same thing with Gabriette! I used her as a Natural muse but she also has Romantic essence I love Devon Aoki so much didnt really include her because she doesn't necessarily feel like a dark muse Also thank you so much 🖤
This helped a ton! Just the other day I was discussing essences with a friend and we were talking about how they show up in our styles. I have a hunch (and so does my friend) that I’m a gamine and ethereal dominant but I’m still learning how to work with my style and makeup
I’m a natural + ethereal but I struggle so much because my paleness and low contrast, whenever I try doing dark aesthetics it’s always wayyy too much and looks like I’m in a costume. Thank you so much for this video🫶🙏😭 I’ve learned I should go an unconventional yet almost more naturally occurring way. It’ll be interesting to explore to say the least!
this is the first video to actually help me find my essences🙏🏽🙏🏽natural, romantic, and gamine seem to make the most sense for me (anyone pls correct me if i’m wrong) 🕺 thank you!!
This video was SO fun to watch. I've always been drawn to the goth look. Gina Gershon is also a very sexy, dark, lush vibe. Check out the movie showgirls. To me she has a dramatic & romantic energy, but she looks so good with the dark aesthetic.
oooough I’ve been waiting for soemthing like this. I’m a mix of classic and romantic I think most the time and this is the first time I’ve actually seen it and been like omg literally me
omg i was just thinking about how being ethereal doesn’t mean looking light and angel like and that i might have that essence but more looking like a dark being in a way! thank uuuu for this
@@silkymochiyess! and I also take so much inspiration from dark fantasy movies it was very interesting you bringing that up! I would LOVE if u dived deeper into this, I also have gamine and romantic essence and the more tips the better! thank u again
i recently got typed as ingenue-classic-gamine which threw a wrench into the works of my current emo/grunge wardrobe. REALLY loved your video, so so helpful. would love to hear more !!!
This video helped so much, I think I'm a mix of classic and gamine and you actually listed some of my favourite actresses and characters in both those parts so that explains a lot ❤
I loved this video. You have really great examples. I’m still not totally sure where I fall (maybe a mix of dramatic, natural, and romantic?? I’m not sure). It’d be really cool if you did a dark aesthetic series. I’ve always been drawn to the more goth/grunge/dark aesthetic look.
This was a great explanation and not a very talked about topic with gothic styles. I think Liv Tyler could also be included in natural essence. she can be heavily made up but she rocks the no eye makeup just luscious lips look and i belive she is a flamboyant natural

Ahh thank you so much for this, please make more videos about those! I would say I'm somewhere between Gamine, Natural, and Romantic when it comes to my features and it's interesting that the clothing styles of those types are actually closest to my own sense of style.
I'm flamboyant natural with gamine essence, and I feel a mix between Winona Rider and Angelina Jolie in the '90 is a perfect mix for me. Like the a bit longer pixie cut that's almost a wolf cut, no makeup, boyish clothes but with a playful touch to it (like I love spooky campy shirt designs, like campy werewolf or vampire or skull prints, and fun and mismatched earrings, like bloody knives or swords or foxes, and always a stone hanger and moon necklace with anything). It's natural but with a mischievous energy :D
I'm so glad I found your channel through my recommendations!! Truly a gift , very informative and I'm sure will help on my finding my preferred stile rodeo♡
I can actually listen to you for hours great video 💗💗 I’m glad you explained the different types so well because a lot just assume if you wear black you’re automatically emo
Please please please elaborate on these, I was DESPERATE for a video like yours, so glad i found you!!! My main essence is ethereal and as an alternative person I have such a hard time figuring it out and especially finding affordable pieces and types of clothing that actually work for me🥺
Newbie here! ✨🖤💅🏼🩷💜💙 I think I’m a natural classic ingenue ✨ Natural because I don’t wear makeup at all. My skin is too sensitive and reacts badly. Another point is my slight eye bags, they kind of go with my “dark look”. But I keep my face looking clean and fresh. Classic because I like dressing in black or dark business attire. Lace over coats, frills of lace on socks, old fashioned classy leather shoes. And, when I wear dresses, I always say: Collars and cuffs are a must! Ingenue- As someone who is 4’9”, who still gets asked for ID at the movies (despite being a quarter of a hundred years old lol), I’d say I look pretty youthful. I’d also say I’m ingenue because of my girly-girl taste in cutesy jewelry to accent my attire. (My obsession with flowers and floral patterns is rampant rn 💀) Anyways, this video was so lovely and eloquent 🖤 I will definitely be subscribing.
Wow this was fantastic I have been researching all of this for the past few weeks, it is fun to see that you have the dark aesthetic combined with the body types. I am a soft gamine. But I do have a dark aesthetic . I didn't know what I was because I have this dramatic look at the same time, I do have a pixie like a gamine would, I have white hair I am 55 years old but I have always been underneath a goth in spirit. I tend to wear a lot of black I have glasses similar to what you have on right now. And people say I have the personality of a gamine but the intensity of a dramatic. It's like "you're so fun and energetic but I wouldn't want to mess with you and get on the wrong side" like I'm very dominant. I always get put in managerial positions that I don't want to be in. The picture in my little bubble shows me with more hair but it is all gone now. But you can see the whiteness. I'm interested to know what you would cast me as? I am a little bit confused I am square and short 5ft1 1/2 square face square feet square hands square shoulders square everything and 155 lb. Am I truly a gamine?....
Love the rose, very dramatic morticia! And i have a new appreciation for Cowboy goth, Cowpunk or dark cowboy aesthetic- i think they could be in any of the essences though just depends on
It’s interesting because at first glance, you done look like Sandra at all. But the more I watch the more I see what they mean. Idk if it’s the mannerisms or the essence or what but I see it!
Dark Romantic ( with a splsh of dramatic) here & I have an Industrial/CyberPunk vibe. Instead of a corset I wear long line sports bras, and have a clean line body skimming look overall to show off my hourglass figure - not bragging just saying. For that bit of romantic swish I tie my layerups over one hip for a sarong effect or wear a long Cardigan (knee & below) under a snug jacket or vest that sits Hip bones or higher. My hair is in a bob with long bangs (think Maralyn Monroe My heart belongs to Daddy) My key style questions are - how do I show of my curves & how can I add a bit of Movement. Great vidi very inspiring 😎☕💋

Loved this.
Awww thank you!
You just mentioned all of my favourite celebrities and style icons. I feel like i found my tribe🖤
I love Prudence's style! 🖤🖤🖤
She looked so so good in all episodes!
Whimsigothical is my aesthetic, soft ethereal with dark tones thank you so much for making this video
Of course! And whimsigoth is so beautiful and is definitely complemented in that ethereal essence 🖤
So good ❤ those glasses are cute. ❤
Awww thank you! Theyre called Diamond from Eyebuydirect & I got the clear ones!
I'd love some deep dive into these essences ! Especially if you can add the hair and makeup factors too 💜
I can and Ill be starting the deepdives next week 🖤
You mentioned how there's a short hairstyle for every essence, and that peaked my interest a lot. Would you be willing to talk more about it in the future?
Absolutely! I can do a whole hair for the different essences video one day 🖤
As someone who cannot wear eye makeup currently, when you said no eye makeup can work for dark aesthetics 🥲
And I mean it! Look how good Gabriette or Angelina looks, and I rarely wear eyemakeup because my eyes get irritated easy lol lips, brows, and your outfit can still exude a dark aesthetic 🖤
I had watched kibbe types videos and I had never seen something like this. I'm here to stay❤
I can't express loud enough how happy I am to have found this video!! 🖤🖤
Im so happy youre happy and it resonates 🥹🖤
I’m so so grateful I found your channel
I'm SO GLAD I found your channel😭🫶
This was fantastic! I'd love deep dives for all of these tbh. I think I'm getting a better sense of the essences and my original instinct for myself was not far off
Same! I love deep dives and havent heard much dark aesthetic + kibbe or kitchener so Ive been enjoying sharing my takes 🖤
I love this video so much, im all about dark aesthetic and since getting into kibbe and essense i was struggling in how to incorporate dark styling as an ingenue
Definitely more to come on dark essences! And thank you!
I used her as a Natural muse but she also has Romantic essence
I love Devon Aoki so much didnt really include her because she doesn't necessarily feel like a dark muse
Also thank you so much 🖤
Thinking of Stevie Nicks for Natural too.
Absolutely 🖤
This helped a ton! Just the other day I was discussing essences with a friend and we were talking about how they show up in our styles. I have a hunch (and so does my friend) that I’m a gamine and ethereal dominant but I’m still learning how to work with my style and makeup
Getting a second opinion always helps! And more individual breakdowns of the dark essences coming soon so hopefully it helps 🖤
I’m a natural + ethereal but I struggle so much because my paleness and low contrast, whenever I try doing dark aesthetics it’s always wayyy too much and looks like I’m in a costume. Thank you so much for this video🫶🙏😭
I’ve learned I should go an unconventional yet almost more naturally occurring way. It’ll be interesting to explore to say the least!
I have been looking for osmethung like this foreverrr
🥹🖤
this is the first video to actually help me find my essences🙏🏽🙏🏽natural, romantic, and gamine seem to make the most sense for me (anyone pls correct me if i’m wrong) 🕺 thank you!!
I think the seasons affect which way I lean. I like more light aesthetics in Spring and Summer. I like more dark aesthetics in Autumn and Winter.
Angelica, Angelina and Eva. Yes. That's right 🖤
The queens 🖤🖤🖤
It can be your bright winter like skintone and hair skin contrast.😊
This video was SO fun to watch. I've always been drawn to the goth look. Gina Gershon is also a very sexy, dark, lush vibe. Check out the movie showgirls. To me she has a dramatic & romantic energy, but she looks so good with the dark aesthetic.
oooough I’ve been waiting for soemthing like this. I’m a mix of classic and romantic I think most the time and this is the first time I’ve actually seen it and been like omg literally me
omg i was just thinking about how being ethereal doesn’t mean looking light and angel like and that i might have that essence but more looking like a dark being in a way! thank uuuu for this
Exactly! In the end ethereal is an outworldly essence like Tilda Swinton & she was the branch that lead me to my other examples 🖤
Awww thank you! Im going to start the individual breakdowns this week!
Yes I would love a deep dive and to learn more about the dark essences!
Yes! Individual breakdowns coming soon!
This video helped so much, I think I'm a mix of classic and gamine and you actually listed some of my favourite actresses and characters in both those parts so that explains a lot ❤
Would love to hear more about dark ethereal and dark natural please!
Dark Naturals coming soon & I already have a Dark Ethereal video on my channel 🖤
Definitely more dark aesthetic videos to come! Going to do color seasons next and still figuring out how I want to format others 🤔
And thank you 🖤🖤🖤
This was a great explanation and not a very talked about topic with gothic styles. I think Liv Tyler could also be included in natural essence. she can be heavily made up but she rocks the no eye makeup just luscious lips look and i belive she is a flamboyant natural
Agreed! I think Liv Tyler would be great for Natural and even Ethereal for her Arwen role 🖤
10 seconds in I know this is the content I crave ❤ love this analysis
Awww thank you 🖤 more like this coming soon
ughhh !!! ur mind !!!! i had to subscribe immediately
Thank you thank you 🥹
Te acabo de descubrir y me he suscrito q tú canal, porque me encanta tu contenido, me atrae muchísimo. Nunca he visto un vídeo de media hora sin darle hacia delante. Estoy aprendiendo mucho de algo que me gusta. Genial💜
Finally, content specifically curated for me. Thank you, this was done beautifully and very informative. I'll fore sure check the rest of your content and subscribe. Content such as yours is extremely helpful for babybats. ❤️ I also love Jennifer Tilly's classic dark essence.
Awww thank you 🖤 so much love for baby bats or anyone with a dark aesthetic & is looking for community or inspiration! I feel like we can always use for dark content on UA-cam especially in the fashion realm, thank you again!
Goth here and GOD I needed this video. Thank you!!!
I appreciate you 🖤🖤🖤 Im glad you enjoyed it 🥰
That’s a very specific topic I’ve been looking for for AGES. Thank you!!!
Can you do a dark aesthetic guide for the color seasons?
Okay I love this theme. I was looking for a similar guide for so long
Im glad you found me 🖤
Ahh thank you so much for this, please make more videos about those! I would say I'm somewhere between Gamine, Natural, and Romantic when it comes to my features and it's interesting that the clothing styles of those types are actually closest to my own sense of style.
I absolutely will and I appreciate you! More individual breakdowns coming soon 🖤
Love all these dark inspirations!
I'm so glad I found your channel through my recommendations!!
Truly a gift , very informative and I'm sure will help on my finding my preferred stile rodeo♡
Im so glad you found me and I hope you like more of the content to come 🖤
i am so glad i found this channel holy crap this is amazing
Aww thank you 🥰
This was such a thoughtful video that really showcases your love of dark aesthetics. Thank you for posting!
Awww thank you 🖤🖤🖤🥂
❤❤❤❤omg i love this 😍💕 subscribed
thank you so much 🖤
I’m so looking forward to this one! You have such fun and informative videos and they’re always my fave to watch!
I hope you enjoyed it and thank as always, I always appreciate your comments!
I can actually listen to you for hours great video 💗💗 I’m glad you explained the different types so well because a lot just assume if you wear black you’re automatically emo
Thank you 🥹🖤 and yes! Not all dark aesthetics are the same, its such a large umbrella!
Please please please elaborate on these, I was DESPERATE for a video like yours, so glad i found you!!! My main essence is ethereal and as an alternative person I have such a hard time figuring it out and especially finding affordable pieces and types of clothing that actually work for me🥺
Yes yes yes! Ill be doing individual breakdowns soon and also most of my style videos will almost always be a dark aesthetic until I'm old & gray lol
I appreciate your content so much. When will you reopen your Astrology Style Readings. I was going to purchase today for a bday gift to myself. 💙
Lol I'm a natural dark essence, thank u so much, some people don't really get my aesthetic and now thanks to this video I feel appreciated hahaha 💗💗💗💗
Awwww I appreciate you 🖤
Amazing i didn’t want to be binded to neutral cream beiges for neutral essence
Yeah! There are so many ways to go about Natural Essence especially with a Dark Aesthetic!
Newbie here! ✨🖤💅🏼🩷💜💙 I think I’m a natural classic ingenue ✨
Natural because I don’t wear makeup at all.
(My obsession with flowers and floral patterns is rampant rn 💀)
Anyways, this video was so lovely and eloquent 🖤 I will definitely be subscribing.
Awwww thank you! And being called eloquent is such an honor 😭
Awesome Video! I've been waiting for someone to do a dark aesthetic / goth essences video. Loved it!
Awww thank you, glad it resonated 🖤
It was great!🌹 thank u! I am dramatic, with soft dramatic body type. ❤ Also I really like to incorporate dark-cowboy aesthetic in my outfits😄
Romantic swish! I love this!
Awesome list and inspiration! I'm a flamboyant natural and I look at Practical Magic for inspo 😆
Yes! I'll actually be talking about Practical Magic on my Monday video!
