A lot of these little tutorials are very useful. So far though I have yet to see a tutorial that suggests it would be a good idea to learn something about anatomy and placement and perspective. This is a lot easier than drawing a 2d portrait using a circle, making a 2 perpendicular lines across, and adding details, because the 3d one has more guidelines, if you just know what the facial features look like, and put some effort into it while being decent at drawing, you can definitely do this
