Hey man, I just wanted to share that I am 37 and re-learning how to draw. I taught myself as a kid, was OK, but not professionally trained ever. Very much looking forward to going through all your videos. I greatly appreciate the content and drawing insight.
Then pick up the books by Andrew Loomis. His teacher Geroge Bridgman and his contemporary Burne Hogarth. Those are all the books we used at the Chicago Art Institute to teach anatomy and reinforce the drawing basics.
This video is actually blessed. Lots of people talk about what to do, but don't draw as they go. Then others draw but don't explain. Your video is a godsent. Thank you!
I've watched several of these, but this is the easiest for me to understand. I'm an oil painter who does many portraits, which I seem to get through, but your video will help me become faster with more confidence hopefully as I'm laying out my paintings. Thanks very very much!!
Wow... I`ve been watching many videos about heads, methods and Loomis explained... so far this one has been the most simple and clear. Thanks and looking foward for more.
I wouldn’t copy this. Some things are correct but the drawings look very wrong. Most of the heads lack the amount of cranium the head actually needs to house a brain.
Getting back into drawing and out of all the videos I've seen with heads, this video is the one to watch. I truly am thankful for the video and feel like with some more practice I can nail down this Loomis Method. Thanks again.
If you need to use different color pencils ✏️ & when I found Loomis on Google I tried it and I was holy it works 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😊 but I watch others as well Brad's art school David finch Kaycem This guy 😊 Ink
This works for cartoonish artstyles too if you take some brief measurements of your character's facial proportions first. Found that on my character, the mouth actually lined up pretty perfectly with the bottom of the circle, and it was easier to draw them if I separated the circle into 1/3rds instead of 1/4ths.
Great post. I watched, stop and draw ever step And repite it, many times My mantra now is: CIRCLE, sides, CROSS, Hair Line Brow line, Bottom of NOSE, CHIN. Repite ….!!!! Excellent
It's better to learn how to draw and rotate a box. If you can do that it eliminates a lot of the guess work you'd be doing with this method. Also builds spacial awareness.
thank you so much. i have been trying to draw using the bridgeman's constructive anatomy book and other books. these videos are the only thing that has made some sense. you simplify it so well. i hope you do some anatomy drawings. again, thank you.
What's crazy is I've struggled with heads for a long time. I'm much more logical and I need specific lines and shapes I can adjust if needed. The normal draw head tutorials just never worked for me Even the moment you saying the video is going to quick was exactly when I paused it like geez slow down my guy. Top notch. I'll be looking more into loomis. It's really interesting.
I am honestly so thankful of this tutorial it really helped me a lot since I'm very new to this kind of stuff but this was perfect I finally drew my first portrait type photo
Thank you for this informative video! I wanted to draw a poster for a book of mine, but had no idea where to start, but now I think I got the general idea, so thanks!
“I know this was a lot of information” that was GREAT INFORMATION. Very useful, thank you. New subscriber here and I found this to very helpful in understanding angle direction when for faces when it comes to 3-Dimensional space.
I'd argue that "Figure Drawing for All It's Worth" is his best book. Drawing the Head and Hands is not very approachable. That's why this is a hodge-podge version of the method. Even "Fun with a Pencil" isn't very fun.
You'd be surprised, joking aside. Many artists use circle templates. There are these stencils you can buy that have different stencils sizes for basic shapes. And obviously we use rulers. I have a shaky hand. It is what it is but it's not going to stop me from making art and improving my art. In fact I felt a lot better about it when I bought a book where it actually recommended that artists use these for consistency and quickness. You spend less time looking at your circle to make sure it's perfect.
The Loomis method was developed in the 1930s (or thereabouts) and has withstood the test of time. The best and easiest way to remember how to draw heads! This video explained it very, very well!
Added you to my playlist. I plan on covering the same topic. However I don't want to start from the beginning. I want to come from another angle. Later on when I make the video I would like to put a mention in the description. My approach will basically be today we are going to draw a loomis head for this portrait. If you would like to understand the method please review the Drawing Explained in this playlist. What do you think?
@@drawingexplainedDon't worry, you got it, Life can get busy, it's totally ok if you don't upload much, you've helped alot in improving my drawing. Again, Thank you so much.
AT 31 years old i finally got it. I got it... I was using the circular loomis method and then i discovered i had to cut the sides off.. that still didnt work! It was the grid method that worked, starting with a square or rectangle and then using harder lines to round it out. Suddenly my drawings look... decent. Now im on to hair. using loomis on developing manga style drawings btw. A western comic book- manga fusion style,
This was the best description of the loomis method I've ever seen. the only thing is i couldent find the vid he said he would make on how to do the faces. I done know if I'm just being really blind or like.. he never made it
I love your explanation!! Is there another video in which you explain how to adjust loomis head method to the specific person we're drawing (to achieve similarity)?
