This video and the kit were all I needed. I did hit a couple of snags because of the switches on the camera interface, but customer support was a huge help. Also had some trouble fitting the power harness cables around the COMAND while getting everything put back together, but we managed to finesse it. It works spectacularly and my wife was extremely pleased with the results. Thanks CarsGadget!
Eugene knows very well what he is talking about. Listen to his instructions carefully and you should be able to go through installation on your own. The camera he installed for us works very well! Mom is very happy (she is the one we installed it for)
I installed the Mercedes GLK model it looks factory the installation instructions were perfect. I had a minor issue... operator error the folks at Carsgadet were awesome in helping me fix my silly mistake. I would buy form them again and would recommend them.... if you want the factory look and feel they are the folks to see. don't hesitate to buy from these guys!! this instruction video helped me not make a major mistake.... had I listened well I would not have made the silly mistake I made!!!
I know this is an oldish video so I hope you're still monitoring. At 12:20 in the video it shows you taping the black video extension wire to the feeder wire, then you start pulling though. Then out the other side you appear to then have the black and red attached. Either it's magic or we are missing a step. Is the red run from the front of the car to the back as well or just the video extension? I know you mention it later that the red is for another application, but can you elaborate on that step? Does the installation require an interface unit and if so does it come with the kit? Someone else had this question as well, but it wasn't addressed. Thanks!
i fitted the wiring neatly and was able to fit the radio just like that. But I know for some people this strategy doesn't work, so you need to break some plastic on any side of the radio cavity to hind the access wiring behind the radio. You can use some pliers to cut/break the plastic. It cuts pretty easily.
Thank you for the detailed video. In your website you mention the interface box, but its installation/connection step appears to be skipped in this video (although from 6:10 on it seems to be inside the dash). Could you please provide more information on its installation, such as the best placement method behind the head unit (or elsewhere), and how to secure it so it does not bump around while driving, etc.? Thank you.
How do the grid lines move as you move the steering? how do they know the steering angles? is there any calibration required to align the grid lines with where the camera is placed? I have a GLK 350 (2013) and I plan on ordering this kit. Very new to installing anything on the car, but, your video is making it look super easy and I think I should be able to do the install myself.
Hello the lines are set from the factory. You don't need to mess with it. Everything is simple, but sometimes people like to over complicate things. If you need assistance with the purchase please contact us at info@carsgadget.com We have GLK camera kit available in stock and ready to be shipped.
@nhdoc99 0 seconds ago Having just completed this job myself I will say that this video was extremely helpful. I did find that in order to get the harness and plug out of the way of the head unit I had to cut a roughly 1"X2" piece of plastic out of the part that separates the radio from the climate control section and slide the plug under that so it sits behind the CCU. Also, another tip left out is that in order to re-seat the ends of the rubber wire tube at the top of the tailgate you have to remove the plastic endpieces from the car side (there are two small release tabs with arrows on the front you can see if you look closely). Once you pull them all the way out of the car and tailgate fitting them is easy and then you just push them back into the holes until the lock in again. If you don't removed them you will never get that rubber to seat around the edge again.
Purple wire it's 12v power supply?cause I put the new update navi today and I want also put rear camera and I don't know which wire fit with the red from camera, any help please
At 12:43 the hoses that you pull the wires through are still unattached. At 12:45 as you replace the rubber trim the hoses are back on but you didn’t show how to put them back. I only ask bc your video was extremely helpful to me as I wired my own backup camera today for my son. Everything went exactly as you depicted expect I could not seem to get the hoses with the wires in them back in a sealed position. Any help on this last detail would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for a great video!
Sorry for the late response. As far as i remember it was pretty easy, it installs same way as you would pull it out and it will clip back on same direction. To put rubber seal on the plastic ring (clip) i would use fingers and/or help with orange tool.
CarsGadget yes thanks I went back and saw that there are small tabs on the side. Pushing in the tabs with a mini screwdriver let me pull out the brackets. Then to get the rubber baskets around the brackets I used two pliers which made it easy to grab and stretch around. Once around snapping in the assembly was easy. Install went perfect, thanks again for your video which made it possible.
@carsgadget Thanks, Eugene! This is great! If my GLK does not have it off the factory floor, will I be able to install successfully? 2014 GLK 350, but back up cam no nav right now... Meaning is it a software thing, or is that what the extra LVDS cable do?
Yes, this kit will work on your 2014 GLK. It's combination of the interface box, lvds cable and backup camera. No need to update software in your car. It's all plug and play. Our kit can be found on www.carsgadget.com
I have installed an aftermarket display (10.25 inch awesome display) that came with its own wiring harness. Will I still need to use the harness that comes with your unit?
@@CarsGadget the new screen had a quad connector that required me to remove the OEM connector and plug it into the new quad connector which went into the radio unit. So, I am not sure about adding a third quad connector if that is even doable. Any ideas?
Hi, I followed the instructions for installing an aftermarket backup camera on my 2014 GLK and it works mostly fine. I has a set of fixed guide-lines and another set of "moving" guide-lines that follow the steering wheel. However, every once in a while these --usually bright yellow- "moving" guide-lines become almost invisible. And at all times the fixed lines as well as the image from the camera is completely fine. To me, it seems like the video image of moving lines is superimposed to the camera's by the car and this has some kind of issue. I checked all the aftermarket RCA connections but the issue still persists. My display is one of those Android 10.25" headunits with Android 10. The HU works fine as well. Any ideas of what could this be and how to fix it? (I have already checked in Engineering Mode all the different video options for the camera ad the one that works is CVBS-NTSC
On UA-cam you are writing that this camera suits for NTG4.5 for GLK 2008- At your shop from 2009 I am asking because I have the prefacelift 12/2008 GLK an want to know if it suits.
A G sorry for the confusion. It fits 2008-2015 on different MB models. Particularly on GLK model it fits 2013+, this information is also on our web. Answering your question, it will not work on 2008 GLK. Sorry couldn’t help at this time.
I have a question, you connect the red power cable from the yellow rca to the purple wire on the wire harness for power to the camera. Some kits comes with rca cable with red wire for power in both ends. Is the other end connected to the camera together with ground?
Hi Kelvin, we do have back up camera interface for GLA available on our web. You will recieve the access to the installation guide with the purchase of our system. If you have more questions please contact us at info@carsgadget.com
