I travel a lot through Europe and about 4 years ago mounted one of these cameras in my left hand side (nearside UK) mirror housing, angled to look left, I can switch from rear view to side view at certain junctions on my rear view camera screen, now turnings where it was impossible to see what was coming (I mostly travel alone) are perfectly visable in 1080p ! it IS a game changer for safely pulling out ! Best mod I've ever done on my Ducato.
That card trick to stop losing a screw is just brilliant. I will definitely be using that trick in the future, the amount of bolts amd screws I've lost like this. Brilliant video so well informed 👏 keep it up. Sending much love might even see you on the road some day 🙏
Good detailed video, thanks for taking the extra time filming the process, I had difficulty getting my wire through the boot, and gave up, but have since learned there's a foam bung in them from the factory, so I'll tackle it again once the snow has thawed here.
Hi, thank you for your kind comments. Yes, there is a foam block about 15cm x15 x 4 inside the bulkhead but it can be easily pulled out. Mine was wet ( a bit worrisome, but as a live aboard in the U.K. condensation on the windows is a real pain and I’m sure it drips down behind the dash ).I didn’t find a foam bung ‘inside’ the boot itself. Good luck :)
This is amazing! Thankyou. Have you linked this to your van tv did you say? Is it feasible do you think to switch between cab screen and your van tv as this would also be great for all round visibility when driving then switching back to cctv mode at night for safety and security.
Hi, thank you. Yes, you could use a splitter on the output of the recorder to take another vga lead to another monitor. You would then not need to switch them at all. VGA cable switchers are available on Amazon. Please bear in mind tho that these cameras need a little light ( about 1 Lux, to function at night ).
Yes actually, all cameras had to be replaced. Because my system voltage went up to 14.4v due to my solar mppt being set to high and it overcharged the lithium battery. The cameras could only handle 14.5v, which for an automotive camera system was too high and it blew the lot of them. I replaced them with the same type and added a power regulator to clamp their voltage to 12v. Been good since. I’ve been too ill recently to do any videos :(
Yes good call, my van has neither so I was ok. However if it had heated mirrors there would have been enough room, I don’t know if one with parking sensors would have though, as you say. The hole in mine would certainly been large enough for two heater wires as well. Thanks for the comment.
Hahaa yes, it’s certainly been a popular video. There is another camera that’s a little better. Buyee Full HD 360 Degree CCD Car Rearview Camera Reversing Color Parking Waterproof Cam Parking Assistance

Nice video , but a word of warning if your van has heated mirrors and parking censor's leds in the mirror there's not room to get the wiring through
