"BFS is amazing,It has totally changed my fishing for the better,I fish highly pressured small public ponds mostly these days, due to moving to Central Indiana and It gets the job done,Tight Lines Y'all"
I’ve had a really hard time putting my curado bfs / dobyns ultra finesse rod down this year. I reach for it before I do anything else. It’s just so much fun. Biggest is a 5lber so far on it. But lost a 7 or 8 last week a foot from the kayak.
I will say I got into BFS last year because of yal. I kept hearing the word fun over and over so I got a BFS setup and a Karashi and absolutely crushed fish with it. I honestly can’t even count the number of fish I caught on it last year and not just bass but bream and bluegill crushed it as well. Every bit of it was absolutely fun and I was immediately hooked on BFS and that Karashi
Bass pro shops 7' medium light cranking stick paired with a lews speed spool and 8lb fluorocarbon works really good for BFS. I've been using this setup the last couple of years and it's been lots of fun!
Caught my first fish on my dedicated BFS setup last week. It was a 4-pounder on the 57mm Rozante Shad astride the tongue. Duo makes tons of baits that just catch fish. Their split rings and hooks are also fantastic out of the box. The new Rozante wakebait looks promising, too.
Yall gotta check out mule fishing.. great ultralight/bfs soft plastics and jig heads. The donkey tail is my go to bfs soft plastic from them. Ethan is a great dude
Great Video! Thanks for going over on the latest BFS Offerings. I would add a great travel BFS rod is the Megabass Triza Aello 3 piece travel rod, which is a little cheaper than the Pop x stick but has a similar action which is great for throwing hard baits and you can travel anywhere with it.
Z-Man’s TRD Goby’s I got the first day the bait shop got them in fact I unboxed them before the owner signed the FedX guys tablet 😂😂 but we found out the tail you can cut the paddles off the sides the fin off the back or even the hole tail off and all have completely different actions that are good and will catch fish. We found out from the Z-Man Rep. and the hole tail by a baby blowfish bit off the tail right at the paddle of his grand kids and he keep catching on it and when looked at it he said it was still a really awesome action and used it for white perch after they got home from the camp that week and they would not hit anything but hit that without the tail in 55° water. So we been doing it ever since just like the TRD rigging it backwards and cutting every other tentacle off and it’s a catching beast when others will not. Just hoping it off the bottom
I have the St. Croix Bass X casting rod (M, XF) and I paired it up with just a regular Shimano SLX (HG). Its the perfect top water setup! The extra fast action lets me work small poppers and spooks but it's not too stiff.
Kastking Valiiant Eagle II fixed the over braking on the Kestrel. Can't get the Valiant Eagle in the USA, but I did get one from Canada and bought one on Ebay for 44 dollars, which is basically a steal. I have one on a Shimano Majestic 6'8" L BFS rod paired with 8 lb braid with a 6 lb mono leader for top water and the other on a MasterCraft Benkei 6'7" L BFS rod with 6 lb flouro because it has micro guides. I do have a good knot though for braid to leader, which is very small and smooth that runs through the micro guides very nice. I originally bought the Zephyr last year to get into BFS, which now I'm hooked. I do a lot of bank fishing and would us ultra light spinning gear quite a bit, so I'm really digging BFS.
I must be either old school or missing the boat so to speak because the original sized fluke and the even smaller teeny fluke have always been catching all sizes of bass for me. As far as something like the super fluke I personally got more bites with the Bass assassin.
I’m surprised you guys didn’t mention the Dobyn Sierra light casting rods. I have that paired with the KastKing Zephyr (I believe based on your recommendation lol) and it is great. Caught my PB bass last year on it and it is super fun
I would like to say I didn't have any success with some regular baits when I started fishing for bass. I will be honest if it wasn't for finesse baits I wouldn't have become the angler I am today. I found that through learning with BFS allowed me to graduate to catching bass with regular baits now.
Bet you have a blast with it too. What was the problem with it?? Was it the size bass in your area are small ?? Or maybe extremely over pressured ?? I know how it can be on all sides of the bass spectrum. 😂😂 I live in south Louisiana we have a lot of fish but bass pressured and small unless you know where to go and how to fish the area and most cannot be gotten into without a go-devil or surface drive to get to bigger 10-200 acre lakes way back in the swamp or marsh that’s why they hate on my buddy Poche on the tournament trail lol G Hack they where raised doing that too get to fish and can find and access fish where most don’t even think to go !! Good luck this spring brother hope you crack some slobs and have a safe grate time doing it!!🙏🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
For the last couple of years, I’ve been throwing that Karashi on a major craft ultralight BFS rod. I’m surprised he didn’t bring it up in the video but those rods are pretty amazing. If you haven’t checked them out you should I bought mine on tackle warehouse. I’m not sure if they’re still on there or not but it’s worth taking a look.
Yes! Perfect recommendation in addition to those mentioned. Majorcraft America Benkei 2 BFS models I own the 6'5" UL and I think the other is 6'7" L or something, but I love mine can haul in 6lber's easy.
I’m glad y’all shared those small shallow jerk baits. I wish I knew some good shallow diving hard jerk bates in the bigger sizes. I’ve had decent luck with the Shimano zumverno, but wanted to step up the size. Lost the world minnow hung on the bottom first cast. I feel like I just threw a $20 bill in the lake.
For a cheaper alternative to the Sufix 131(half the price), the Sufix NanoBraid is round and smooth as well. And the kicker is that 10 lb Nanobraid is the same line diameter as the 6lb 131. So you can get a cheaper/smaller/quality line, with the option to jump up 8 or 10 lb if desired. It casts a mile as well.
Guys I have been using mono lately and it's been awesome I have used the 131 and sniper and there great but I have found mono u still send it very abrasion resistant and I pulled in a 4.5 and 3.8 just today .I feel the stretching of mono helps me.
No links to the two new Daiwa BF70 reels at TW? Surprisingly, these two new BFS reels appeared “under the radar” recently and thought I’d see them. Appreciate the dedication and daily videos this week!
Yeah, they snuck them in! The PX looks to be the new incarnation of the Pixy though I'm guessing its a US market rebadge of the Alphas Air and the Tatula looks to be a rebadge of the Salamandura Air. Either way, nice to see Daiwa getting into the US BFS market.
@@helotaxi Seems they did not publicize and was a surprise to me. Certainly look like great reels but I’ve really been considering the Gekkabijin. That looks like a solid BFS reel from Japan. Thanks for the reply and appreciate the insight 🤙🏻
Doing a little research, the PX is the previous generation Alphas Air, not even the newest version that dropped last year. No love for the North American market, as usual.
What are your thoughts on on the Daiwa bfs reels? I’ve seen a couple people really like them and they seem to have a couple but I haven’t seen you guys review them.
Great BFS reel that’s affordable (assuming it’s still at that price point) is the KastKing Zephyr BFS reel. I got it for $60 shipped, and it’s been great. Slammin spotted and largemouth on it since the season started.
I think the Zephyr has been discontinued. It was functional, but it also really had some issues, the drag being the biggest one for me. The spring washers for the drag were way too heavy and combined with a 3-disk drag, that meant that the drag was either "off" or way too strong for light line. I actually removed the center drag disk on mine and then tighten the drag all the way down. It leaves the drag usable but pretty weak; fine for 6# and under line.
Awesome video guys as always! Wish I had more money! HAHA The Kastking Zephyr is still available on Amazon when I log in here in Ontario Canada and both Kastking BFS reels are on Temu. Hope that helps if you plan to get more for your crazy gear collection that fills your garages! 🤣
I've been starting with throw out 1/8 oz I've scale out most of my stuff is all 4.5 grams or more not much is lighter than then 4 grams. Only for stream's to fish is light 1/16 smallest for me.
Love your passion about fishing. Really got us hooked on specifically swimbait fishing. Hey Matt, Would love to see more videos about Swimbaits and big glidebaits. Thoughts on Deps Slide swimmer, Hinkle Trout, Mother, DRT K9, I-Slide and so on.. Cheers from Sweden
To go even further, the ultralight and double ultralight rods can get you into fly fishing realm and cast with much more accuracy and you don't have to be one of those douchy fly guys!
Bomb shot has been working for me as well as the lil zman crawz on a ned rig. Been throwing them on the Ark Gravity Bfs spooled with 6lb braid to 10lb flouro leader. Bfs has been a ton of fun and has really helped when the fish don't wanna eat. Amazing being able to cast tiny poppers and things on bait casting gear. It's a BLAST! Tim was in a mood today!!! I LOVE IT!!! 😂I use the suffix 131 6lb and it's super smooth cast incredibly well and feels great! Again I cannot say enough good things about the Ark Gravity Bfs. I got it on sale for like 117.99 and it has been a dream when it comes to casting tiny poppers and 2 or 3 gram lures. Excellent reel for the price and i've been using it in high spring winds 20mph+ spooled with 6lb suffix 131 and it does fantastic!
Biggest misconception about BFS is that it can only be used with ultra light rods and line. I pair my curado BFS with my 7’ MH LOOMIS moderate fast, 20lb sufix 131, 15 pound leader and u can jack em. Crank baits, Tiny weedless swimbaits, tiny swimjigs, finesse jigs, 1/4 oz mini max, small spinner baits and small top waters around cover. It makes them so incredibly easy to cast its unbelievable. Plus the drag is way stronger than what I had anticipated.
Sammy 55 and 65’s. There’s something about that butt down on the pause, plus they really look like fleeing baitfish. They’re like finding hens teeth, but worth the look.
The kastking kestrel is a solid reel. Kastking has the valiant eagle 2 which is the same reel without a magnesium frame and bearings in the crank handle. Fantastic reel and 120$ cheaper than the kestrel. Can order from Dick's and free delivery.
Have you guys tried the Shimano Majestic BFS rod? It’s by far my favorite. It’s a JDM rod, but there are a couple companies that import and sell them here in the states for around $100.
Hey mat and Tim have you mentioned budget BFS reels I have been using a little ark gravity bfs and have been stunned! I am very new to BFS would love your thoughts on how they compare to the more high end reels.
BFS doesn’t get enough love IMO. Been throwing a ned rig on one for years and STILL get a lot of negative comments about how “I shouldn’t do that” and “that’s not finesse!”🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻
I'm all for them making fun of me and not wanting to do it. The less of us using BFS, the less chance the fish will get used to it. I always cringe when Matt talks about the Karashi. I was cracken the fish on em for a few years, thinking I had an awesome secret weapon, hiding them from people at the lake. Turn on TB one day, and Matt is telling the world, "Oh My God, you gotta try these, if you try one BFS bait, make it a Karashi". I was like, 😲 No, he didn't! 😂 So needless to say, I don't mind when people giggle about a technique, I kinda prefer it.
I haven't seen this I've been talking about it and explain it to people that see me out fishing and I've seen a lot of interest from people and wanting to try it out
There's a L power in the Feather and the Recon Elite line as well. The Maxim 6'10" and 7'3" ML are great rods for tiny hooks as a mod-fast action and the 6'10" MH is actually a great micro jig rod. And the Maxims are $100 rods.
That's not a sale, that's a new model reel. The $200 reel is the Kestrel Elite BFS and the $120 reel is the Kestrel BFS. You've got me curious and I think I'm going to have to order the new one to give it a look.
So I have the new reel in my hands, Amazon overnight and only $100 with a coupon. It's basically a plastic from version of the Elite with an aluminum handle. Super lightweight and there isn't a strength concern since it's a BFS reel. It's smooth, as in you don't feel the gears at all, but it feels like something is dragging in the reel. Not grating or grinding but it doesn't turn as freely as it should. I'll tear it down this evening and see what's what.
So the spool tension knob doesn't have an o-ring under it like Shimano and Daiwa reels and as such has a lot of play in the knob itself. That gave the impression that the knob was loose, when, in fact, it was about 3 turns tighter than I would ever run it. Once I loosened it up, the reel feels great. Can't wait to get it out on the water.
We fight giant cats with those rods and reels try #4lb tst and the fight of your life is on. I'm from Michigan next to lake Huron and the best times were on lite gear it's awesome. Good job boyz
I’m so afraid to get into BFS. Even on the budget end of it, it seems very expensive however…. My casitas paired with a shimano exage rod seems like a bfs. Good little combo!
First BFS Reel was a Aldebaran 09 with a ZPI Customspool, years later Shimano,Daiwa and Abu (JDM) lauchend every year, new hot stuff, my wallet is buring🎉
with my personal experience with the zeypher I will agree with TB. It's not the best bfs reel but it can get the job done. I'm a budget angler, and there are no budget friendly rods yet. The bass x rod is for us budget anglers, I've flexed the gen 2 and gen 3, and it is the rod for us budget Bfs anglers. If you could find a zeypher to fish with you know what I'm talking about. I am truly impressed that the zephyer can launch 1/16 ounce drop shots further than any of the spinning combos could. But I back lash here and there. My combo is a zephyer, with a 7ft medium fast action diawa rod (do everything rod) with 10lb power pro braid to a 8lb bassix fluro leader. I see this combo as another power finesse spinning combo. I don't see this as a true BFS but another spinning reel. I jerk bait 110s, I crank 1.5 square bills, I drop shot 3/16I fish 2.8 kietechs on my zepher, literally like my medium fast spinning combos. It can do most things but not excel in specific categories. The zeypher doesn't have that butter smooth reel, or can launch true bfs lures (stocked), to me the zeypher is just another regular spinning reel in my line up. I use a medium fast daiwa because that's all I have, and it's my do everything rod. From T rigs, to lip less, to square bills, to jigs. The rod I have with the zeypher I do everything with it. And I wanna say it's my jerkbait combo as of right now. My buddy was shocked how far I was launching my jerk baits with the zeypher and a regular medium fast bass rod. I was out casting everyone, only downside was the back lashes (could be the braid, or the wind) in the future companies will target us budget anglers with BFS with better rods and reels. All the budget end BFS rods are not it besides the Bass x. That's why I haven't switched out my diawa rod yet till I find another Budget friendly BFS rod.
There are some Bass Pro branded rods that certainly qualify as BFS on a budget. Usually in the 5-6' lengths and $50-70 range, rated "light" power. They'll comfortably cast a 1/16 lure and have a surprising amount of backbone for fishing small spinnerbaits and jigs. I haven't been in to Bass Pro in some time, but I check the racks every time I'm there and buy one when they have them. Likewise the BPS Crankin' Stick ML 7' is a great BFS cranking rod for about $70.
@helotaxi only problem the mid west doesn't have a bass pro. All we have is tw and small tackle shops. It's hard for me to come across bfs rods. Don't like buying rods online bc how scary it is shipping rods nowsd
does it have a spool tensioner that works properly? ive bought some budget bfs reels in the past like the kast king zephyr, and the spool tensioner went from 0-100 with a small adjustment, which made it impossible to cast anything ultralight. it would also loosen up on itself and cause backlashes.. i want a nice bfs reel, but i dont want to drop several hundred dollars on one, so ive been looking at the gravity.
@@tagg946 the spool tensioner has a pretty consistant response curve to it and it has 3 different brake settings on the inside of the reel along with the dial on the side, i have one on a 7'2ml zodias for my heavier stuff and another on a 6'10 light glass for treble hook baits that are lighter and i never have to mess with my spool tension knob because theres so much adjustment with the brakes
@@tagg946 my buddy has the curado bfs on the same zodias 7'2ml and the gravity casts farther than it with the same bait on it. i ordered the first one on a monday and it came in thursday and fished with it the friday after that and was so impressed with it after about 2 hours that i sat down in the boat and ordered another one right then😂
@@hunterbuchanan7671 right on for the response dude, im going to snag one while theyre available in left hand on TW. been looking everywhere on the web for a solid bfs reel.
I love the X-80 jr, and Duo's Rozante, have you tried the Adusta Twitch Shiner Jumper 72? You talk about a shallow water jerkbait, the X-80 jrs and Rozante can't do what it does. I'm talking 3 ft or even shallower with a hard jerkbait. Its a Niche bait, so Im not as concerned with it as the Karashi. 😂😂
Guys 🙄🤔😒 there is NO pro blue BUBBLING SHAKER 4 inch bait on TW. Only 3.5" is available 🤭😁😬. My suggestions for Reins are: - Golden goby😛 - Wakasagi🤩 - Green Pumpkin/ orange😋 - Oxblood🥳
At approximately 47 minutes into this video I believe it’s Tim who says he’s casting baits 40, 50, and up to 70 yards. Now correct me if I’m mistaken but most BFS spools do not hold more than 70 yards of any line 🤔 so how in the heck are you casting let alone setting the hook on any decent sized bass with 70 yards of line out there with the exception of braid that is the equivalent of 1 pound monofilament which would still seem quite impossible in my opinion unless you’re throwing 3/8 ounce lures which isn’t quite the light end of BFS.
I'm pretty sure Matt was mentioning the last king bfs reel as the reel that went away. It hasn't. I bought one 4 months ago online. You just have to track it down. Best 80 dollar bfs reel you'll ever buy.
Looking back at Matt’s 9 year old video bass on beds… classic video Ends with Simple Man song… sounds like he always liked Tennessee, Before he knew it lol 🐟
Brushing up on the BFS stuff. I have an Aldebaran BFS and a Pop X Stick on the way. Can’t wait! 😁😁😁
"BFS is amazing,It has totally changed my fishing for the better,I fish highly pressured small public ponds mostly these days, due to moving to Central Indiana and It gets the job done,Tight Lines Y'all"
Same story here in pressured Chicagoland. Throwing small stuff on BFS is often the only way to coax a bite.
an hour of solid content
They have the best information on UA-cam I'm my opinion
Tackle Warehouse has gotta love you guys, I know I do...my wallet not so much 😅
Right? Yet no discount code offered..

The kastking zephyr is still on Amazon.
Just listening to the two of you, a person could get the idea that you might be passionate about this whole BFS thing. 🤣😂
The Z-Man Chatterbait Flashback Mini has been a blast on BFS.

Bass pro shops 7' medium light cranking stick paired with a lews speed spool and 8lb fluorocarbon works really good for BFS. I've been using this setup the last couple of years and it's been lots of fun!
Works even better with a lighter spool reel. Even the SLX 70 MGL with 6# fluoro will cast a 1/8 crank like your typical cranking rod does a 3/8.
The ARK bfs reel is an awesome one also. Only $150

Have you tried any Dobyns rods for bfs? Sierra ultra finesse specifically?
Biggest misconception about BFS is that it can only be used with ultra light rods and line. I pair my curado BFS with my 7’ MH LOOMIS moderate fast, 20lb sufix 131, 15 pound leader and u can jack em. Crank baits, Tiny weedless swimbaits, tiny swimjigs, finesse jigs, 1/4 oz mini max, small spinner baits and small top waters around cover. It makes them so incredibly easy to cast its unbelievable. Plus the drag is way stronger than what I had anticipated.
Bombshot GP3 made me a believer the first time I used it
Sammy 55 and 65’s. There’s something about that butt down on the pause, plus they really look like fleeing baitfish. They’re like finding hens teeth, but worth the look.
Thanks for all the details
I won a club tournament on CA Delta with that thin senko!
Literally all I've been taking out is my BFS, SWIMBAIT, and a FROG. They're all just so much fun.
Complete opposite ends of the spectrum but so much fun!
8lb braid and a Pocket Frog has me my best bass of the year so far 7lb 9oz, giant baits and tiny baits have reinvigorated my bass fishing
@@catsmasher83lol I've lost fish on 15lb fluoro and 50lb braid. I don't have the confidence in 8lb anything
That’s a good ewg Ned head. I’m always on rivers so when I do go to the lake….its like “hmmm I get to throw everything now, ok cool”
Ditto
Those people havent tried it
I'm all for them making fun of me and not wanting to do it.
I haven't seen this I've been talking about it and explain it to people that see me out fishing and I've seen a lot of interest from people and wanting to try it out
Are you familiar with Clinton Bruning?
Phenix featherweight has an awesome rod I use for bfs. $150
You guys have to check out the Phenix Feather ML rod. It's been around a long time, but is absolutely amazing.
Where can It be found at I’ll have to check it out myself. Thanks for the tip brother 🙏🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Tackle warehouse has them
There's a L power in the Feather and the Recon Elite line as well. The Maxim 6'10" and 7'3" ML are great rods for tiny hooks as a mod-fast action and the 6'10" MH is actually a great micro jig rod. And the Maxims are $100 rods.
Matt, the kast king Kestral is on sale for 120.00 right now
That's not a sale, that's a new model reel. The $200 reel is the Kestrel Elite BFS and the $120 reel is the Kestrel BFS. You've got me curious and I think I'm going to have to order the new one to give it a look.
@@helotaxi oh I didn't realize there were 2
So I have the new reel in my hands, Amazon overnight and only $100 with a coupon.
Can you size an o-rind for it? That seems like a simple fix.
That karashi smashes!! What hook do you recommend for replacement on the karashi?
@matt you need to try the GL Juvy Craw, killer!
Can I assume that Matt and Tim already have the new Diawa BFS reel on order that was in yesterday's What's New at Tackle Warehouse video
We fight giant cats with those rods and reels try #4lb tst and the fight of your life is on. I'm from Michigan next to lake Huron and the best times were on lite gear it's awesome. Good job boyz
kastking just came out with the kestrel NON elite around $120, you should definitely give it a shot
@officialtacticalbassin ?
Let’s go!!!!
@@justtreesiddty6889the bass pro headquarters is literally in the Midwest
Please look at the Ark Gravity BFS and Edge Rods by Gary Loomis.
Tips on the Karashi? I keep trying but no luck yet..I fish smallmouth. Pam.
You guys should give the slx bfs a go. I have one and its super nice, and I hear its very similar to the curado bfs
Its exactly the same minus a couple handle bearings and paint 👌
I’m curious if you guys have played with the Phenix classic bfs rods. I would love to hear your thoughts on it
the ark gravity bfs reel is worth taking a look at if you havnt already🎣
does it have a spool tensioner that works properly? ive bought some budget bfs reels in the past like the kast king zephyr, and the spool tensioner went from 0-100 with a small adjustment, which made it impossible to cast anything ultralight. it would also loosen up on itself and cause backlashes.. i want a nice bfs reel, but i dont want to drop several hundred dollars on one, so ive been looking at the gravity.
@@hunterbuchanan7671 i ended up getting one, its a dope reel, way better than anything else ive used.
This is actually power finesse, a lot of us are throwing 1/64 and 1/32 bfs baits on feather light and ultra light.
Hi guys! For the 3 inch spark shad, is the guppy head used a 1/0?
Here at Tactical, there's always a reason for you to spend 5k on new gear to get a beat up pressured bass.
Strike king came out with the bisty dog and the bitsy pop and the bitsy trap and bitsy jerk bait y'all need to check them out
We've checked them out, in fact at ICAST we went straight to the booth to have a look when they were announced 👍🏼
Jackall rhythm wag golden shad, is that the SS Shad?
Guys 🙄🤔😒 there is NO pro blue BUBBLING SHAKER 4 inch bait on TW. Only 3.5" is available 🤭😁😬.
My suggestions for Reins are:
- Golden goby😛
- Wakasagi🤩
- Green Pumpkin/ orange😋
- Oxblood🥳
Wish I could see the baits you were talking about 🧐
"I'm not a line scientist" love it!!!
Great video as always!
Where did you get that terminal tackle tray with all those storage compartments? Sweeet! Also, who makes it?
Thanks
Buzbe, I just picked up some myself. Awesome
Have you guys tried the KastKing Kestrel?
At approximately 47 minutes into this video I believe it’s Tim who says he’s casting baits 40, 50, and up to 70 yards. Now correct me if I’m mistaken but most BFS spools do not hold more than 70 yards of any line 🤔 so how in the heck are you casting let alone setting the hook on any decent sized bass with 70 yards of line out there with the exception of braid that is the equivalent of 1 pound monofilament which would still seem quite impossible in my opinion unless you’re throwing 3/8 ounce lures which isn’t quite the light end of BFS.
What do you guys think of the ARK Tharp ML casting rod
I'm pretty sure Matt was mentioning the last king bfs reel as the reel that went away. It hasn't. I bought one 4 months ago online. You just have to track it down. Best 80 dollar bfs reel you'll ever buy.
Kast king*
lets see what tackle is needs to be sold at TW today
Looking back at Matt’s 9 year old video bass on beds… classic video
Ends with Simple Man song… sounds like he always liked Tennessee,
Before he knew it lol
🐟
Have a listen to that old song and it just mellows me out rock on brother😄
