- Опубліковано 6 жов 2024
- Bait Finesse is here to stay! The trend of throwing finesse lures on ultralight bait casting equipment instead of spinning rods is sweeping the US! There are plenty of anglers who still enjoy spinning tackle, but the number that are switching over to BFS bait casting setups is staggering!
Since bait finesse is a budding concept in the US market we're taking the time to show you how we adapt these setups to Summer time fishing. From topwater, to underspins, to flukes, you can target bass with a variety of ultralight presentations and have a ton of fun this Summer!
Below you'll find links to the exact baits and gear discussed in the video. We've included our favorite colors for the lures, as well as some of our favorite rod and reel combos for these techniques. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Sweet I caught a bfs bass before I got to work now I get to watch a Tactical Bassin bfs video with my coffee. Gonna be a good day
I legit love the Dobyns bfs system I got from an earlier video. it put me back close to $400 but I've caught so many fish on it already. I'm jungle punching the grass now but i'd recommend it to everyone if its in the budget.
We had a great time working with Gary on that rod! Enjoy 👍
U guys make me feel less guilty/ mentally ill when I see how much gear and tackle you have. I'm not alone
Don’t forget, Shimano isn’t the only company making BFS reels. Lots of people think the Daiwa Alphas Air and Steez Air are superior to the Shimano offerings. I know you guys don’t like Daiwa for whatever reason but lots of your viewers do :)
Daiwa makes the most specialized bait finesse reels by far. They have a model for every situation and some. We love them 😅. That new SLP Millionaire Air Stream Custom absolutely kills 💪
That’s why I love bfs I’m always catching slab crappie along with bass on the small baits
Thanks Tim, watched Matt's bfs trip the other day, immediately called TW bought a cashion bfs and shimano bfs. It's over! I'm all in. So much fun, thanks for the videos, you guys have helped improve my fishing all the way around.
heck yes a bfs tactical bassin episode! Current favorite BFS baits right now jun2023 in southern california are: Micro TRD, 1/16oz keitech shakeyhead with 4inch roboworm into cover, HOVERSTROLLING RIG for suspending bass.
That mini magic worm is the JUICE!
@@MaineStreamFishing ahhh thank you for that, i will try it from missile baits 💪. looks more juice than roboworm
I see you 👀
@@clintonbruning ohh shit bro i see you !!!
You’re right Tim! it is alot of fun. I really enjoy it. Thanks for making another BFS video. I always tune in.
You should throw in the spark shad/okashira screw head combo with the swimbaits. I’ve caught more fish on this than anything else I throw.
Another great video guys!
Been doing bfs for over 17 plus years. Light tackle has always been my preferred bring out the best fight on any species.
Are you Japanese because I never even heard of bfs 17 yrs ago that's amazing!
@@yankeelipperfishing no I'm not but always into Japanese tackle and I Use to build my rod's back then. Anyway I always into light tackle, I'm all about the fight. I been super tuning my reels way back then when I first heard about mr tani. It's amazing how you can cast light lures with little effort. Don't buy into the gimmick of ceramic bearings. And good flush with a light oil and light polishing you good to go
@@jimt5683 I got the bfs bug bad. I love it. tightlines bro.
I just started throwing that 77 sized shower blows. I'm running it pretty well I think on my slx 6'10" med with a slx 70 mgl. That combo is money.
Would you please help me out with the rod and reel you use thx
@@claircummings1667 What do you need help with?
That was a slab of a crappie! My day is brightened whenever TB uploads. Keep posting the best fishing vids on UA-cam!
I bought the phenix bfs casting rod and absolutely love it
BFS topwater (the whopper plopper 60, the Sammy 65, and the gunfish 68) have been key to winning kayak tournaments in Florida 🤫🎣
Watch @thereeltest if you want to see someone testing ALL bfs gear Tim . Great video as always!!!
Hey Tim thanks to you and Matt I am 100% committed to BFS fishing. I had been away from the sport for over 15 years so I had to start from scratch. After learning about BFS I decided this would be an ideal opportunity to buy gear that is dedicated to small baits and light line. In other words I wanted to put the fun back in my fishing. I am relegated to fishing from the bank so catching any size fish needed to be enjoyable. Now that I've played around with BFS I've opened up a whole new world of adventure fishing small bodies of water that I would have never fished before. I've got a couple of Dobyns Sierra Finesse combos paired with the Curado BFS reels. The 650 and 691 make for a good one two punch for hard and soft baits respectively. I have found that the JDM baits are phenomenal for this technique. Great Hunting, Megabass's trout brand, makes some really cool jerkbaits. I've been smoking river smallmouth on these tiny jerkbaits all fished on casting rods. So fun!!!! Thanks for showing me the way!
Caught a 2 12 largie on a laydown with 6 lb ice fluro. Yes Ice fluro, on the BFS. What an intense moment! I started with straight braid, but Im loving throwing with fluro.
I have been using simple 6 pound test monofilament line. It casts a mile on a BFS reel. A Megabass Okashira swimbait head and small swimbait cast a long ways.
There is a bunch of online hate for BFS. Most of the people complaining about it have never used it. I for one have a blast with mine
Ive been doing it since 2005ish withthe OG Pixy and Presso, but its been non existent here in the US till about 2-3 years ago. Daiwa Tried as they brought over the Pixy Type R, but no one really knew what to do with it and it was priced at 500$ I think...Its always, why dont you just use a spinning rod comments. BFS is a damn blast plain and simple..
I'm 59 and have been using a 4ft 10 eagle claw Featherlite rod and the bps pro finnesse baitcaster with 6lb test for over 30 years now and it's a blast .let the haters hate its not our fault they are ignorant
Those little Shimano 39 Macbeths are excellent baits. I have caught many bass this spring on them. One word of caution, don’t carry lots of them in your tackle box. If your tackle box gets real hot in the sunlight, the little Macbeths will expand in the extreme heat and split wide open. Try to keep these baits in the shade in a cool area of your boat, truck or automobile. Just carry a couple, don’t bring a dozen. Fish catching baits. Great video. BFS is fun.
Started fishing, not that long ago started to buy bLewers poppers, small big and now I’m trying to buy frogs small big ones different styles, hope all fishing stuff. I love how you are very detailed with each individual lure that you were using. Keep it up. I’m loving it. I’m learning so much.
I never really got into finesse fishing, mostly because I don't like using spinning gear. I picked up a spinning setup just to get started but I definitely want to upgrade and do some BFS fishing. I'm eyeing that Cashion BFS rod with a Curado BFS. I use a Cashion swimbait rod for my rats and I love it. I also have the Cashion Element spinning rod that I use for drop shots and I'm a big fan of that, too. I'll probably end up replacing most of rods with Cashions.
Watching from London today! Won't get to do any fishing here so what better to satisfy my fishing jones than catching up on Tactical Bassin! Let's go!
Thank you for always giving me inspiration on new techniques of bass fishing! Your videos are so appreciated!!!!
A friend lend me his Calcutta Conquest BFS reel to cast and play, and I was HOOKED. Got my own 17 Conquest BFS reel, never looked back. Been catching Peacock bass one after another on it, the fights just magnify by tons on such ultra light gear.
Y’all gotta use the gan craft 70 glide bait. Just gotta bend the joint just enough for the plastic to bend and you get real good action.
I love those big fat BFS crappie, on a Karashi, X-Nanahan,Raid Level minnow 72 etc. I swear it feels like you caught a DD when they drill it and start screaming drag. Being able to control the bait makes a difference as well, IMO. I caught numerous 14 inch and 3 that were over 15 inch over the winter. That may not be a big deal for some guys, but for me, it was a riot!
BTW, I hate the covid influx of new fishermen. I have never seen so much litter along the lake shorr and 80 lb braid in the water with crappie lures tied to it. And every open stretch of bank with close parking has turned into a third world beach!
Finesse bait is catching me more and more bigger bass for me lately
Big Bass are getting smarter and smarter really got to trick em thats its just a real regular tiny bug to slam it !
I have yet to get me a BFS set up but I'm saving to get a set up ATM then I'll be set xD
My favorite BFS bait of late I haven't caught anything on it yet, but the Zman midwest finesse swim jig in 3/16oz and a 3" largo shad. It gets that same secondary action you guys talk about with the full size swim jigs, in a tiny package.
Been with y'all since day 1! You have improved my fishing 10x especially moving from Ohio down to Florida! Maybe do a hot weather video soon??? I could use some tips! Thanks again y'all for the awesome content!
Hey Tim this is way beyond great content. It's epic bro you guys give us such great information on everything. I can't stop watching your videos it's that awesome, fantastic, suburb what more could we ask for. Well maybe to go fishing with you guys. Hey Tim God bless you and your families. We are very fortunate to have you guys on u tube and we love it. Looking forward to watching thousands more videos.
The Yo- Zuri 3DR X 3 inch walking bait is by far my favorite bfs topwater. It is so fun. And walks amazing
Started BFS fishing this year after watching one for your BFS video. Love throwing waky rig senco. Will try some BFS top water. You guys are great. Thank you
They also make tiny frogs and sell them on bait finesse empire pretty freakin cool
We got some special stuff coming down the pipeline this summer if you love topwater 😉
Consistency is key, also you guys are the best! Appreciate you!
Bass Fishing is awesome, catching is a bonus😊
Love BFS. I have replaced all my high end spinning rods. No more egg beaters on the deck or locker.
Congratulations on 550 guys, well deserved.
I wound up in a city for work that has ONE lake, no ponds within an hour and a half drive. This lake has bass of no more than 2 1/2 lbs and not a lot of natural forage, so I have naturally gravitated towards bfs setups and sized down finesse style baits. I think everyone should have a bfs setup on hand. Local bass dudes always talk to me thinking I’m a pro because I always catch bass there and most have trouble. Then they have that oh shit moment when I explain how they don’t bite traditional bass lures but love them easy jdm style baits. 1/16 flashback mini’s with paddle tails, micro buzz baits, sized down ned rigs etc. I can catch blue gill on the same baits I catch 2lb bass on, even the catfish guys are catching on!
Tim channeling his uncle Rico 😂😂😂😂 "I just fired that thing 30 or 40 yards, could of easily cleared that mountain." You guys are the freaking best.
I’m getting a pretty good handle on my Curado BFS. Still amazing how far I can cast a 1/8 oz lure 60’ or longer with casting gear. Blows my mind. I never would’ve entered the BFS world w/o you guys videos. Thank a mega million!!
BTW check out those Lucky Craft BFS cranks. 🧡🧡🧡
Got a question if you don't mind--I'm looking at the Curado as my introduction to BFS but I'm looking at the line capacity as a concern I'd like to have alleviated. It says the Curado has a line capacity of 80 yards with 8 lb test (though it would be more with braided and run a leader)... If a 1/8 oz lure can cast 60' or longer, then a 3/16 oz lure gets much further.
In short, do you ever have the concern of a trophy fish spooling you?
I caught my first 10 pounder this past winter--it hit at the end of my cast and ran a ton of line off but it was on a spinning reel with plenty of line.
Thanks for any insight--BFS looks like fun!
@@mike2687 that would be an issue. If catching a monster is very high I would consider using a reel with more line capacity. IMO
@@rickyd865VOL - that's the thing, you never know when that fish of a lifetime will hit!
My previous pb lmb was a 9.5 pounder when river fishing in the dead of summer for smallies where most are dinks--not the typical situation. Prior to that it was an 8 lb bass throwing a small 1/4 oz rattle trap. Neither would've been considered trophy spots, times of the year or the lure choice.
I was reading the specs on a Daiwa BFS reel and the capacity was 50 yards for 5-8 lb mono but recommended only using 33 yards.
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks!
It’s been 16 years. Love you guys! First sub on UA-cam for me
I appreciate small baits, but I’m not on the BFS train yet. When it comes to a paddle tailed swimbait, a popper, a tube, or a jerkbait, I go with a spinning rod. I like the hand position/feel of a spinning rod for those techniques.
Yeeeeeeeesssssssss!!!!👍👍👍👍👍 my kind of topic
I love and thank you guys for putting me on those cali clips!
just bought a expride B BFS yesterday gonna be a sweet summer
I can't wait to get my BFS combo. 🤙
I can’t wait to get myself a BFS rig!!
Perfect when fishing with my kids! The 7' cashion keeeps fish pinned while the kids scramble to come grab my rod.
Love the video's on BFS and hopefully we will eventually get more product at an affordable price up here in Ontario Canada! I just do not have the budget for a Shimano BFS reel once you add our tax on the purchase at $400 bucks??!! HAHA
I cannot imagine Matt being more excited than you are.
I appreciate the great information you provided about BFS. Equipment, baits, and technique. I have been fishing for years and have accumulated many spinning outfits for light line, small bait fishing. I prefer baitcasting gear. So, what do you do with your spinning outfits if you switch to BFS? One more question: Which BFS outfit would be the best for multiple baits and techniques? Thanks again for your excellent productions. 👍
I agree
People from the South are always amazed at how clear the water is up north
Fish in my profile pic was 4lb 12oz, caught on a 3.75" zman streakz on a 1/8oz Ned hook. Small baits definitely can catch big fish.
I use T3AIR bait finesse tacle to cast Deep Tiny Little N.
I'm sold on it, I've done some, but I need that reel & lighter line & maybe get a few of those rods!😎👍🎣
Good Stuff Tim.. Bitten by the BFS bug..
I mean I've been using the 77.7 shower blows on a 6'10med zodias with 70mglslx for two years. I've had a ton of fun with it. I don't even call it bfs.
My 6'10" med light zodias casting rod has landed more 2.8kietech fish than any combo I have. Probably since 2018. I really want to get a real bfs combo tho.
I like my bfs setup but....I've been throwing 1/8th oz finesse jig head with a 2.7in finesse swinbait on a medium reg baitcast setup for years lol. I use a 80 size daiwa and 12lb fluoro
Great stuff tim .I new bfs was gonna be a big hit ,these videos are great i mean how else would i find out about an umpa or the correct line size to try.thanks bro
About 6mo ago I got into bfs. The very first lure I started with was a super fluke Jr. Owner cps mosquitoe lite nose hook. Curado bfs on Shimano sensalite. Absolutely killn em
What about bfs jerk baits, when are you doing that video? I got a 4 pounder the other day on that Whopper Plopper 60, big fish in my neck of the woods.
Have always used light bait casting rods. No news
I'd like to hear what you guys think of the Dobyns ultra finesse rod for BFS. It's the only one I've tried but it's great.
I kayak fish, so I don't have much room for additional rods, but I'd like to experiment with BFS. What would be a good, budget all-purpose rod in your opinion?
What connection knot do you use for that 5 lb braid to 4 lb fluoro leader? Thanks for the great video
would love to see a video on BFS lures.
Great work guys!!!
I think im coming around to the bfs… i said i wouldn’t do it… but i got some small cranks(money badger) and i would throw my wacky rig on it. I think this off season its time.
BFS is the kewlest. Wait till ya find out they put the cranks on the left side, Yahoo.
Where's the Dobyns sierra SUF? Thought it may make the cut haha. Love the vids!
Wish Keitech would come out with a 1.8 or a 2.3 in the Fat Swing Impact! Would be perfect on that Zman micro shroomz
OSP makes a HP Shadtail in 2.5 that works great with that head.
Dwammmmm. Nice crappie
Great stuff. Do you have a recommendation if you could only have one rod to try the BFS?
Had to be on the bay
Hey Tim: With all the talk about downsizing with finesse/bfs gear lately could you theoretically take crappie/panfish baits and adapt then to bass fishing? Also it seems like the few bfs rods and reels available in the us market are expensive? Thoughts…🎣🤔😎🐝
Lots of rod and reels available with a Google search 👍
Nailed it, bfs fishing is a game changer for sure.
But could you suggest two spinning reals to pair with my ned rig nrx plus and medium action gloomis conquest both coming in the mail. Only have some vanfords but wondering if you know something better to pair
ok do a vid on how you set up your bfs reel so it don't backlash
They been wearing out ole Dale Hollow it appears since they moved to TN
Question: What BFS setup would you recommend for a weightless wacky rig and drop shot system? Thanks in advance for the info, and I really appreciate your videos!
Does bfs have a use in tournaments or is it just for fun fishing?
Time to un-retire my Scorpion MG
Big ol' biggin
Hey Tim, I have the new 7ft Cashion Bfs rod and although I love the feel and sensitivity on it I can't hardly hook a fish on it to save my life 😂 I have only hooked one smallmouth on a small swimbait out of probably 100 bites on it like you were doing in the beginning of the video .. any tips?
Sweeping hooksets
keep in mind the smaller baits get a ton of attention from little fish too... I was river fishing a micro jig last summer and I couldn't keep the pincers on my craw trailers because sunfish kept picking them off--I had to switch to a trailer made of elaztech (or one of those stretchy material baits).
For me, I catch a lot of large crappie on smaller swimbaits but I'm sure smaller ones are hitting hit on many of my misses.
I completely agree about the hook-set practice that baitfinesseempire mentioned--if you're already doing that, then it could very well be a lot of hungry dinks. Just curious, what can you tell us about your line and jighead?
@@mike2687 7lb FC shooter and a megabass okishira head
@@southerngurlfishing2561 - that equipment all matches up nicely... I'd say that brings it down to hook set technique and small biters... lastly would be color choice and retrieve if the fish aren't committing by that's probably on the lower end of things since it's a downsized finesse lure.
Best of luck--you'll work it out!
@mike thank you for the help I'll keep trying could definitely be some small fish
Not sure why everyone is obsessed with braid line. Braid is terrible around rocky areas. It has no abrasion resistance. Get a little nick on it, it breaks off. Very noisy going through your rod guides and can cut into your guides after some time. Cost a fortune too. Fluorocarbon is good if you tie the right knot. Your knot better be a uni knot doubled up. In my experience mono cast way better if you get the right brand. It has some stretch also. Good abrasion resistance. Use mono on Topwater baits. Use a leader of fluorocarbon for baits below the surface. Save yourself some money.
Is the curado 50e qualify as bfs with a d66m curado dropshot casting rod that i have been using for years.
I just bought my curado bfs reel but need a rod. What is your choice for a all purpose BFS rod to get started with before jumping head first into multiple rods (around $200ish to begin with)
I think a 7'2" ML Zodias ($219) is a great all-purpose rod. They make the same rod in Curado ($189) and Expride ($279) series of rods. I think the Zodias is the best value.
Do you guys have any thoughts on the Phenix classic BFS rod? Thanks!
They going to make any bfs hollow body frogs?
Sounds like a straight up sales pitch for a new rod/reel combo. Likes it takes too much effort to cast a spinning reel.
That tiny spool on the curado bfs reel takes some getting used to. Also the gear ratio is so high. Do they make slower bfs reels? I do love the clicking drag
Would the Daiwa Tatula SV TW103 Casting Reel be considered a bfs reel?
I'm looking at a Curado rod/reel combo, but I'm confused about which rod to go with. Is there a good all-around rod for everything BFS?
What is a good budget bfs combo
I need a bfs swim jig. My fish are in thick grass busting on small baitfish.
I have been using the strike King bitsy bug jig.comes in sizes 1/16 to 1/4
@@gregchilders7643 I can definitely try one of those. What are you using as a trailer?
@@andyd834 zoom and big bite baits have a small chunk trailer and if I want some action I use a curly tail or double tail or the zman 3in goat I just trim it down cause the 1/16 and 1/8 have a size 1 hook and the 3/16 and1/4 have a 1/0.we have pickerel in NJ so if I get bit off I'm only losing a couple of dollars .they have a light wire hook but I have not had any problems my pb on a 1/8oz jig weighted 7 lbs
If there's ever an BFS SLX reel I'll try it. Probably pair it with a st croix or curado rod
Wtf you been at, there is a six bfs
Personal opinion, you're far better off saving for the Curado BFS as there is a significant change in performance between them.
@@jimt5683 shesh guess i've been under a rock
@@tacticalbassin Now that I know it exists the price is pretty similar I figured it would be closer to the $100 mark. Saving for a cuarado makes sense. I'll put it on a curado or St croix Mojo rod
@@krisramos7453 been out for 2 or 3 years already. save money go jdm get a scorpion for 200 better bearing and performance
Is the spinning reel that much more difficult? I like that I don't backlash. Is this BFS a baitcaster that doesn't backlash? Or is "mini" just the new thing? Mini cereal, mini chips, mini baits? Is it the abbreviation? Spinning reels are just so much easier for me, I don't understand this.
Hi man! Can I use a curado medium lite rid for the curado bfs reel? Im planning to buy
Have you guys tried the Shimano sensilites? heard good things about it as a budget bfs.
