Hello. I noticed in your cabinet that you have an Anthurium sitting right under a grow light and it is looking quite bleached. May I suggest moving it to a less bright location? I’ve noticed that my Anthurium prefer more medium light levels compared to my Alocasia that thrive sitting right next to the lights.
Yep! all my anthuriums are under low light grow lights and they are dark and beautiful. Now, the lighter green leaves or Lux can handle the brighter light.

I have tried but I think I either started with corms that were too small, or I didn't give them a chance to breathe in the plastic pot I had stuffed full of sphagnum moss. The corms were pressed against the lid of the pot on their bed of moss. I'll follow your method next time I find a corm 🙂🤞 best wishes ✨

Omg ur so lucky to have so many Frydeks! They cost like SO much ($60 or more!) in NZ! 😢 Btw, I totally agree with u about everyone having there on method of growing like how e.g. i based my soil off of yours but I altered it a little to suit my plants growing in my environment/what i have.
I have a tiny alocasia frydek growing in a no drainage glass jar, in soil mix and when the water level gets low I just top it up so it’s nearly always in water. It’s just finished pushing out a new leaf and I’m hoping it’ll get as big and full as yours. Yours are so pretty. I hope to one day be able to grow my own small army from corms like you did. 😊

I love this! So glad that I can take notes and help save my little Alocasia. How long do you leave it under light and what light setting do you leave it on? I got a grow light with different light settings and timer and I just want to make sure I give it the light and time that it needs.
I have mine under a grow light for 12 hours (12-16 hours is standard). In terms of the strength, I do use a light meter to make sure enough usable light is hitting them. I don’t know what grow light you’re using, but try the “standard” setting and see how they do!

Are all your alocasias inside cabinet greenhouses? I have some that are rapidly outgrowing my cabinets and I'm really worried about transitioning them to the big bad outside. If you do have alos that you started inside the cabinet and then transitioned to outside, would you consider talking about it? I'm obsessed with your videos btw - your humour, your aesthetic, the plant care - I'm swooning
I do have some Alocasias (non variegated) living in ambient conditions. The more established the root system is, the better they can handle ambient humidity. You can always try it and see how they do! Adding a humidifier to transition them is another option.
When I use the iron to make holes in the plastic pots, I do it over my stovetop with the range hood fan on. Believe me it helps... I still hold my breath though! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Where do you find those clear cups you used for your self watering set up?? I tend to buy clear cups/soup containers to do this but I really like your setup better. Something I also started doing was using dome lids to hold the stems in place! I’ll cut a slit to slide the stem into and it holds the plant in place. (If that makes sense)
I'm having such trouble with my alocasia green velvets rn. They leaning down like they're running away from my grow light. But my janky light meter app on my phone says its the right lumens. So I'm trying one with natural light since the one I gave to a friend is doing really well and it's not in a very bright place. Can't wait to get these green velvets routine on lockdown so I can get my own Frydeks.
I don’t know how accurate light meters on phone apps are, but if it’s leaning down, I recommend moving it further back from the light to see! Play around with changing one condition at a time in your environment until you find the right conditions 🙌
My alocasia black velvet is a baby and in soil mix (but just got a new leaf). My alocasia longli-something is also in soil and putting out new growth. My idk what kind it just said alocasia on the pot. That one is in trouble. Had to cut all the way back. 🥺 hopefully she has the will to live!

Hi Patricia! The volcanic ash aquatic soil (Solum) is linked in my video description. The cabinet is an IKEA Rudsta cabinet that I converted into a DIY greenhouse - I have an entire playlist on my channel on how I did it!
When the mother plant rotted, I had it sitting in a diluted mix of hydrogen peroxide and water. For the repot, I just pulled off any of the soft rotted roots and it was fine. You can definitely spray them though!

Self watering pots and pon are the only way to go. I rarely have issues and no leaf loss on repots. I also add springtails to eat the root rot.
I see springtails naturally in my collection. Never thought to intentionally add them! 🙌
@ohtheplacesyoullgrow I have a couple lizards in terrariums. We use springtails as clean up crew along with dwarf isopods.

Do you ever spray down the roots with a weak mix of water and hydrogen peroxide if you have seen any signs of rot?

Omg! I bought the EXACT cups from that link! It’s literally copy/pasted from my own order. It makes me wonder if the seller changed something. Are they still usable? Is one larger than the other?
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow one is larger than the other, but they don’t nestle the way that yours do the 12 ounce cup sits about a good 2 inches out of the 16 ounce cup

I'm so sorry :( - Even if it sits 2 inches out of the 16' one, you can still use the self-watering wick method. But I totally get your frustration in that they don't sit flush. I'm so sorry.
