I discovered spider mites recently. After listening to my personal plant guru (you), I bought the Bios herbicide spray and I love it!!! It makes all my leaves so pretty. Luckily, only one plant was infected so I placed it outside where it just happened to go through two mega summer storms (the kind that produce tornadoes). I can attest that spider mites cannot live through pelting rain and 50mph winds. However, that's a bit of an extreme solution. I think I would use the storm method over beneficial bugs though.

Hi! It’s in my video description but for gnats I recommend BTI in your watering can. It can come in powered form like this: bit.ly/BTIpowder (MICHELLE10 will get you 10% off)
and you also loose leaves, because the repotting is also stressful for your alocasia. especially the batik is a diva and is reacting way more towards it than a dragon breath for example.
My routine for pests is I give all my plants a shower at least once a week. For my alocasia it’s twice a week. Having a limited amount of plants definitely helps me keep up the is routine.
Looking at bugs with my microscope is one of my favourite things. 😂 I’ve released the green lacewings all over my house and pretty much never saw them again (I did it three times). No problems. They didn’t solve my thrip problem though so I ended up needing systemics.
I use preventive predatory mites all year around, that are in the sachets. You really have to be looking hard to know that their there. I've been using them for a little over a year and haven't had thrips or spider mites. A lot of people just use them in the spring/summer period when pests are more likely. For me there definitely worth the cost. 🌿
I heard you can have plants inside like lavender, catnip, basil and citronella and they will work against parasites. Can you test that for us 😮???? I didnt found any existing videos for that but there is a lot of research on it working. ❤❤❤ Thanks in advance 😍
Have you tried garlic? I used it for mealy bugs in a philodendron xandu and it worked amazing, I mashed it up and diluted with water just a bit and sprayed it on and left some little chunks in the most infected areas and around the plant and it really did wonders. I’m asking out of curiosity and also would love to know if it works hihi 😅 love your videos !
I got spider mites too from my odora batik that I got from a seller on palmstreet (Texas something) and i’m so sad I had to treat all my plant in my cabinet
In this video, what is the spray you had to make more of that you use for pests that you can spray on the leaves and dirt, and you don't have to rinse it? If you don't mind sharing your secret recipe with me! 😂 I love that it's organic and sage for the plants! 💚🪴
I have the same scope but maybe I’m using it wrong since I basically have it on top of the plant. I saw that you’re not too close to your plant when you use it. How far away do you set your scope? Also what is your water your filling your bottles with? Is it filtered or distilled water? We have a whole home water filtration but would love a distiller. Did you put a link for that?
Even though you make this fun, I can’t even begin to imagine the frustration. Pests are just…. Pests. 😊😊 Per the “death plugs” a healthy root will tear through it without any issues.
Yes totally! usually the roots will figure itself out! But I did have a situation where the surrounding soil was dry but the plug was still wet so I kept watering and it rotted ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Ok I'm halfway through the video and wondering if the hanger-ons are actually coming from inside the greenhouse? I'm hoping you possibly sprayed or washed down the inside of the greenhouse?
I had a spider mite issue till I moved some of the spiders that hide in the corners of my house into my plants. Ill take a few spiders over mites anyday
I've been not taking as good care of my plants as usual due to health issues and suddenly I have a huge infestation of spider mites in the living room. I have like fifty plants in there and they're pretty much all crawling and i am this close to getting rid of the entire plant collection in that room (but I could never but actually I cry about how many pests I have)
Too funny- if you had used a few drops of neem the first time any residual mites would’ve been killed. Maybe try Neem soil drenches that do work to kill most pests before they become a problem. Lacewings are so cool! Outside in nature their eggs are layed on the undersides of plant leaves by filaments which gives the appearance they are floating in the air. I always look for them in my outside garden.
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow use less than what’s called for on the bottle and mix it in warm water with the soap. Shake well so oil is completely mixed. I spray soil and don’t rinse it.
Luckily, I have never had to deal with Spide Mites 🙏🏻. Gross!! 🤮🤮 I hate it when I knock one of my plants over as I can't usually use the soil again, as it always gets heaps of cat hair in it!! 🫠
Also, I can’t find beneficial mites in sachets that aren’t like by the billion or cost a billion dollars. If you have a good place that sells them DO TELL!!!
Spider mites are awful but at least they don’t fly. I find that neem oil and Castile soap isn’t the most effective. I’m in Canada and I use Safer’s End All. I could never look at them through a microscope, I get the creepy crawlies 😭😭😭

I’m asking out of curiosity and also would love to know if it works hihi 😅 love your videos !
Oh that’s so interesting. I haven’t used garlic before but that’s cool!
I got spider mites too from my odora batik that I got from a seller on palmstreet (Texas something) and i’m so sad I had to treat all my plant in my cabinet
Ahhh!!! I hope you got rid of them all! I’m so glad mine was only in this mini greenhouse. I can’t imagine an entire CABINET 😭
In this video, what is the spray you had to make more of that you use for pests that you can spray on the leaves and dirt, and you don't have to rinse it? If you don't mind sharing your secret recipe with me! 😂 I love that it's organic and sage for the plants! 💚🪴
Hi! Its in the video description 🙌
@ohtheplacesyoullgrow OH ok! Thanks so much Michelle! I hope your plant is doing better! 💚🪴
Is there a link for the faucet diverted or cup? Thanx!2
Hi! Yes! It’s in the video description as “water recipe”
I did not see it on the Amazon link. I only saw the pump.
Glad your feeling better 😀🇨🇦
Thank you so much Linda!
It’s tap water from the hose and I remove the chlorine from it. It’s all in my video description! The scope does need to be fairly close.
Even though you make this fun, I can’t even begin to imagine the frustration. Pests are just…. Pests. 😊😊
Per the “death plugs” a healthy root will tear through it without any issues.
Yes totally! usually the roots will figure itself out! But I did have a situation where the surrounding soil was dry but the plug was still wet so I kept watering and it rotted ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
What's your favourite fertilizer especially for monsteras? I have an adsonii that is making nodes but no new leaves!
It’s linked in my description!
Ok I'm halfway through the video and wondering if the hanger-ons are actually coming from inside the greenhouse? I'm hoping you possibly sprayed or washed down the inside of the greenhouse?
I did! And I show it at some point in the video 😅
Have you tried leaf shine? It worked for me spraying my alocasia Polly . Hopefully it will work for you as well
I use neem oil which makes em shiny? Does that count haha
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow it should work on some pests
What type of alocasia is it? It's gorgious!
It’s an Odora Batik!
I had a spider mite issue till I moved some of the spiders that hide in the corners of my house into my plants. Ill take a few spiders over mites anyday
So the SPIDERS eat the mites! That’s amazing. What a meta way to solve problems 😂
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrowso do lady bugs
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow I go out collecting bugs for this, praying mantis's are good at it too but they were too mean to my cats
@@zeno3630 hahahahaa
You need to do a video on beneficial bugs eating all the pests under the microscope
That would be a SUPER cool thing to capture!
I need that microscope !!
You do!!! The one I use is in my description
Where did you order the good bugs from?
These ones are from natures good guys
Hi 👋🏻 I wonder 💭 what’s the brand of your camera?
It’s in my video description!
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow so sorry I didn’t see first time. Amazon can’t send it to Istanbul 😞 Thanks 🙏🏼 I do love you and your videos 🧿
What soil did you just use?
It’s in my video description!
How do you get your zz so big? Mine has only grown one new stem in almost three yrs.
LOTS of light. Even though they’re touted as low light plants, if you give them lots of light they grow big!
I found lacewing eggs on my plants outside. Just as long as they are good guys then I'm fine with them.
Yes! Good guys. Just gross looking 🙄
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow lol I haven't met a cute bug yet
Do you have to deal with that in your bedroom?!
LOL fair point.
What is your spray?
Hi! It’s in my video description with a discount code!
thank you
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow I thought it was something you made yourself
On the bright side....
They don't fly! 🥴😊😂🤣
lol you know that’s very true
I’m so scared to get pest with my plants, tbh I don’t do much for them I just water them when I can taco the leaves (all my plants are snake plants)
Luckily, snake plants are super hearty and not as prone to pests 🤞
I've been not taking as good care of my plants as usual due to health issues and suddenly I have a huge infestation of spider mites in the living room. I have like fifty plants in there and they're pretty much all crawling and i am this close to getting rid of the entire plant collection in that room (but I could never but actually I cry about how many pests I have)
Oh no so sorry to hear this 😭. Maybe consider releasing the beneficial bugs to let them do their things passively?
Beneficial bugs? It's a yes for me. I don't have a microscope. Ignorance is bliss😊
Ignorance is bliss lol
"It's clearly happy to see me" 😅
lol it is NOT a pretty flower
What alocasia is this
Odora batik
I, too, am dramatic about pest! They're so gross!
I can never be okay with them 🫠😂
It’s clearly happy to see me….hahaha😂😂
LOL
I just bought 2 calatheas without researching properly, bc they looked so pretty smh
I still love all my calatheas! I just need to pay close attention to them
I also found out that nearly half my collection got spider mites 😫
Noooooo!!! I hope you can get them under control
Zz plants actually flower when they are needing a new pot with more space.
The roots aren’t crowded on this one. I’ve read when conditions are ideal they can flower!
I knoowwwww I did that the first time but just hated how it coated the leaves but you’re right. It woukd have helped in the long run!
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow use less than what’s called for on the bottle and mix it in warm water with the soap. Shake well so oil is completely mixed. I spray soil and don’t rinse it.
I only ever notice the mites when I'm getting ready for bed 😐
Ugh it’s like they wait to be visible right when we try to relax
omg could you make a kimchi video XD
HAHAHAHHAA never made kimchi in my LIFE
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow we've seen you grow plants, now you can commit a plants crime lol
this is like advanced infection…. not checking it regularly?! 😮
☠️
Luckily, I have never had to deal with Spide Mites 🙏🏻. Gross!! 🤮🤮
I hate it when I knock one of my plants over as I can't usually use the soil again, as it always gets heaps of cat hair in it!! 🫠
Hahaha omg cat hair!!! I’m sure a little cat hair couldn’t hurt the plant right? ☺️
@ohtheplacesyoullgrow Yes ofc! 😆 not the plant but my OCD, lol
I am in the middle of spider mite hell so it's nice to know I'm not alone
I hope you got it under control!
12:16 is me! 😂
Also, I can’t find beneficial mites in sachets that aren’t like by the billion or cost a billion dollars. If you have a good place that sells them DO TELL!!!
I got mine from Natures Good Guys!
Spider mites are awful but at least they don’t fly. I find that neem oil and Castile soap isn’t the most effective. I’m in Canada and I use Safer’s End All.
I could never look at them through a microscope, I get the creepy crawlies 😭😭😭
I never heard of Safers End but glad you found something that works well!
That microscope is a blessing and a curse lol
I’ve never had spider mites but they are so gross and ahh they give me the heebie jeebies!!!
And may you NEVER get them!! 🤞
I hate those plugs.
Same ☠️
@ohtheplacesyoullgrow
Well, it's 3:30 in the morning and the last thing I did was pick a rubber/cork plug off of my philodendron brandtianum. I'm going to be so useless tomorrow 🙃! 😮💨🫣🙄
1 - I NEVER want those kinds of fairies! I flipped out over a shred of toilet paper from wiping off the mirror yesterday because all my head thought was mealy bug. 2 - White Carpet & plant parenting… the reason god invented Dyson!!
HAHAHAH Dyson is KEY
