Lazy when I learned you had adhd it turned my whole life around. I also have adhd and thought it meant I cant work hard or pay attention. but when I learned i stopped taking adhd meds and just worked hard with it. I went from 50-60 missing assignment to being in the honor roll now. I even got an A on a paper about how you changed my life. Thanks Lazy.
Did you have a specific prescription or a wind-down period, That would allow you to stop? And sorry if I'm intruding, I'm just worried that there might be context to you quitting your meds that some people might not get.

Also, I quit mainly because I wanted to fully put myself in control. I struggled for a few months, but I eventually got better than ever. Some people will need it more than me. It took a lot of time for me to grow enough to the point where I could quit. I just shared this to get it out there. Also some people wear adhd like a badge of honor at my school so I was kinda like “damn I don’t want anything to do with that”.
This is so amazing to hear, just promise me you won't become too prideful about pushing through it w/o assistance! I grew up pharmaphobic so I understand your desire to go off meds - I had to do a ton of research before even trying them, and until recently I was also concerned about them taking me out of "being in control." But after almost a year of trying them + comparing my experience to the research, I now believe that a small dose that you are tolerant to and "barely feel" is genuinely helpful in ways that are often subtle. From what I've read, it's actually desirable to become tolerant to [stimulant] medication, because the dopamine receptors in the forebrain develop tolerance slower than the rest of the brain, allowing the medication to only treat attention issues when you take a tolerant dose. Sadly, in many of the medication stories I've heard, psychiatrists seemingly don't have any time to explain these medications to patients and prescribe unnecessarily high doses, and the amount of research necessary to understand them is not realistic for most people. It really does feel like it took me almost a year to "get it," even after hyperfocusing on the research at first. I write all this because "pushing through the ADHD" is indeed what I did, but you can't fight your brain forever. I'm so happy to hear you've found a sense of autonomy, just please promise me you'll balance it with the fact that you deserve to enjoy living your life, rather than always pushing through it!
