If I could give you a thousand likes, I would - just for knowing (by heart) who almost every artist is. I’ve watched dozens of reaction videos to this song and not one of the others had done their homework: ALL of them did not know even half the artists. In fact, lucky if they knew a quarter of them. And NOT ONE of the others ever mentioned Quincy Jones. Not. One. All they had to do was look at the Wikipedia page which lists the artists in order of appearance. You’d think they would have that there to help them along, but no. Well done on this reaction and thanks for keeping the magic of this song and their incredible vocals alive. :)
Thank you for your support and comment!
Couldn't agree more - when Diana Ross was singing her part, one of them said who's that? That was it for me
I remember this. Amazing music with all the best singers in one place singing this song. We are all blessed to witness this. God bless us all.
Yup. And was Mms idea for raising the money.
I Absolutely agree. I couldn't of said it any better. Something like this will never happen again. A Timeless Masterpiece!!!!
No one's talking about Steve Perry's part. He sounds like an angel.
You can tell the singers nearby (each great in their own right) were impressed by Perry.
I thought his part was amazing too!
OMg yessss Perry 😌🤌🏼💖💖
The best voice in that song.. In my opinion..
My fav Part ! Everytime
This song was actually written by both Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie
Exactly. If we're going to be completely honest Michael actually wrote 99% of the song as stated by himself in an interview. Lionel gave him a line that he was having trouble with.
@@brianringold3258 yeah, but most people would believe the opposite
Brian Ringold yep. I’ve heard the demo written by MJ and it was really good
@@brianringold3258 Well, now that I think of it, it makes sense that Jackson wrote it when you pay attention to the lyrics. Those are very Michael Jackson words. Very Michael Jackson that song was, but with the fantastic power of so many powerful stores. Wow.
@@brianringold3258 didn't they need only about 2 hours to write it ?
The talent in that room is like “The Avengers” of all music.
And they assembled!!
The Michael Jackson part always makes me feel so soft ..is just so amazing to hear him ...
I feel the same about the ray Charles part
For me it's Stevie Wonder and Bruce! Never been a better a duo so complimentary to one another!
Same with me.
Some background people were Smokey Robinson, The Pointer Sisters, LaToya Jackson, and several Jackson brothers. Such icons.
Bette MIdler, Harry Belafonte
Dan Ackroyd.
The News: Johnny Colla, Chris Hayes, Bill Gibson, Sean Hopper and (surprisingly) Mario Cipollina (John's younger bro), Of 'Huey Lewis & The News' too!
@@saiyongdawn7756 *Ackroyd
@@minty_Joe Thank you. I know. My phone just sucks.
Perry's bit will always be my favourite. What a singer!
MJ was a genius...and he was eaten alive by sick US media....Its a shame..He should moved to Europe from the early 90's....World lost a genius the greatest entertainer of all time. He gor everything the voice range, songwriter skills, dance skills, moves, wide range of emotions, power, charisma....
That’s why Tina Turner moved to Europe. The US & UK media is ruthless to black stars
When Michael start singing, it's impossible not to cry... We could probably never see again such talents in the same place.
Stevie and the Boss...the duet we never knew we needed...
One of the only reactions where people actually know everyone. Thanks for being old or actually knowledgable
Love this. I always think the same thing….why do they not know thee legends?
the duet ofStevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen was impressive
I was so thrilled that you both recognized all of the singers! Amazing!
When this came out, I was glued to MTV. Such a magical and musical time. I don’t think we did too bad for not seeing it in a couple decades! 😂 Miss those days!
@@HollywoodVocalCoach Yes! The older I get, the more I go back in time to find music I used to see on MTV.
@@dianemadsen6993 Let’s restart the movement for Hands Across America! 😄
The onely one you didn't recognize was Lindsey Buckingham. Impressive !
There will never be another Michael Jackson. He inspired the world to help one another. He NEVER got the full credit for ALL he did. I'm glad you were able to see what some of us lived. There once was love amongst humans...before celebrity took over the planet.
Same with Stevie Wonder
Michael and Lionel wrote this song together
Michael wrote 99.9 to be honest
How do you know that?I've seen video with them both working on the song together.are you a supper mj fan?
@@matthewtorres9075 Michael had the idea to make a project called " We Are the World " in the early 80s
There exists a demo version of We Are the World and this demo sang Michael Jackson
@@mjlivetv8065 ahh I c well I've seen a video of them working on the song together so maybe Michael had a rough idea of the song but iam pretty sure they both wrote the finished product
@@matthewtorres9075 sure both wrote it together but Michael wrote 90 % of it
Cyndi Lauper's line is my favorite in the whole video....
She definitely killed it!
The documentary video of the making of this song featured how they kept going to make sure every line was perfect. That you can't actually say true nowadays with so much sound engineering and autotuning going on. I remember how these 80s artists went on to do live performances and still sounded the same as the studio version - most artists in the new gen can't similarly pull it as good as the recorded version of their own songs. What an era truly - i mean the 80s
We need these kind of music today
Let’s bring it back!
yes indeed
As a gen Z I feel like I really have to say sorry to you guys. Music these days are horrible....
Song was mostly written by michael
Lionel Richie is the one who wrote the song. I was thinking the same thing until I watch the documentary of it. That's why he starts out first.
@@elizabethstanford6826 Na kid. Your dumb. MJs sister even said she saw MJ wrote at least 95% of it
@@elizabethstanford6826 respodn
@@elizabethstanford6826 No he didn’t. Michael wrote most of it and Lionel helped him with some lines he was having trouble with.
Michael the best! 😍😊
I like when you point out the diversity. It was simply called talent back then, and no one caring what you looked like as long as you can entertain us. You have Jimmy Kimmel's announcing how diverse the Grammy's will be like it's something brand new to the world. Sorry, we had it already.
I totally agree.
That’s not true at all. Check out the video of Bowie giving the VJ Mark Goodson the business for MTV not playing black artists. Check out the Bobby Caldwell video where they start off with him in shadow before they reveal he’s white. Color was definitely an issue back then.
@@brynneholt1990 show me the link
@@mikeshoe74 color was a big issue. A tiny search would get you a link- most people can not add links to comments. CBS president had to actually threaten MTV to pull out all CBS videos, so they would play Billie Jean- first video by major black artist. Not to mention earlier times before MTV, there was well documented huge devide between black and white radio stations, where white people listening to white stations had never even heard about Motown. And lets not forget all the hate early white rockers and Elvis got for performing, as white people called it, animalistic N music- there are even videos on UA-cam about that.
@@brynneholt1990 Bobby Caldwell video? What? Cause he's sitting in the shade? Face, most listeners never realized he was white until it was pointed out. Floats around on dozens of reaction channels for that very reason...and if he's deliberately in the shade cause of it. It's called a joke back when people were allowed to laugh. MTV came about in 1981 I think. I certainly grew up around MTV, my first album I ever owned was Michael Jackson's Thriller. It wasn't hard to find those videos on MTV. I don't know what Bowie would be talking about. Headbanger's Ball? Only black heavy metal band I know of is Living Colour. That aside, there was plenty of Pointer Sisters, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Run DMC going around MTV all day long.
Michael Jackson's voice is perfection. OOF! Stevie too of course
Also there was actually a remake of this song in 2010.
And it was disgraceful, auto-tuned garbage.
@@gsquat Yes it sure was hahahahaha
The only good thing of that version is the old artists like Céline and others.
What I did not expect is that they would still include Michael singing his part in the video. I really didn’t like the wrapping part though.
@@rachaelsworld1116 Why? It's a big genre in 2010 so it represents the times and it sounds good and follows the message?
Michael wrote this song but lionel gave him a line, Michael credits lionel in the writing for the line
"The other guy" in the back with Harry Bellafonte was Dan Akroyd. He was there to represent the Screen Actor's Guild. "That guy" with the high curly hair was Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac.
Dan Akroyd sold a few million albums as one of the Blues Brothers. He was at the studio by accident, but was invited to participate because of his music background.
Omg finally found Reactors of this song who actually know all the legends in the videos ,thanks y’all
It doesn't matter how many times I hear this song (and I was born in '85)....once Cyndi Lauper sings...I tear up.
You mean when Cindy screams. She can't sing what-so-ever. So instead she screams and looks crazy which is the only reason she was ever a thing. Terrible person too.
And by "tear up" you should be saying "throw up uncontrollably."
@@TroutButter sounds like someone has a vendetta. Did "Cyndi" (do your research if you want to sound smart....cuz you're wrong and dumb) do something to you? Are you big mad? Awwwww poor baby. Maybe some warm milk will help you! Go to sleep now, child....adults are talking. Nuh-nights!
This was like an All Star game for singers! There was so much talent in that room....just unbelievable!!!
"We need this today." Amen! Double Amen!
Steve Perry tho
I swear they could release this song today and it would still be a mega hit
When music was music,
All of them knew their part- perfect!. Magical decades the 80s and 90s, perharps we will never have something like these in the future.
"I feel like a kid in a candy store" lol me😂😂😂
The 80's was a special time!
Indeed sir. Ida loved to have met Queen if i grew up in the 80s
"the other guy" is Dan Akroyd, also Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac. You missed the Pointer Sisters and all of the Jacksons are there except for Janet.
And No Jermaine or Rebbie
i wonder how Dan Akroyd got there lol :D
@@x340x someone saw a ghost?

@@x340x The Blues Brothers.
the 80's just pure soul!!!!!
By far best review ever of We Are The World. Thanks Guys,,,,,,,
I was surprised that we could recognize as many as we did considering we haven’t seen the vid since the 80s! Those were special musical times!
i appreciated that they gave everyone a compliment cause every single one of them are legends
It’s amazing that each one of them are still in demand today! I try to see them in concert whenever I get the chance. Aaah…childhood feels!
Guys, Dionne Warwick is too big of a legend for you to just call her “Whitney Houston’s aunt”. She was also her cousin, not her aunt. LOL.
I’m just lucky I remembered that they were related! This is the first time I’m seeing this video in decades! It totally gives me the great feels!
Her Aunt not her cousin
Whitney's mother Cissy and Dionne's mother were sisters....they are first cousins...Dionne is not her aunt.
@@daleb1279 we are talking about Witney. cissy and Dionne are sisters that makes Dionne Witney's Aunt not cousin
@@daleb1279 Your right they're cousins just checked biography. Always thought they was Aunt and niece
Why stars in 80’s were so much better than today’s? They really knew what cooperation was. Today’s are just like enemies to one another.
You have Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Steve Perry, Cindy Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, and more, and you feel they are squeezin' their souls on every word and every verse...
It doesnt matter if you've listened a hundreds of times...always shakes to your very soul, what amazing combo of some of the greatest voices ever and these emotional melodies.
“Diana Ross was like his mom” 😬😬😬😂😂 A bit more than that 🤣 Great reaction though! I love this song 🥰
I think I know what you are implying but if so, I doubt that it is true.
Unless you meant something else?
@@seanscanlon9067 its no secret that michael jackson love diana ross more than as a mentor but as a woman.she was his first love and becouse of the age difference it was impossible at that time.
@@sarthoujuliannerosem.1357 Maybe it would have been better if he had a relationship with her because of the love she had for him. If only she were somewhat younger. He needed a lot of love in his life.
She totally f. him over several times. it not much of a secret and much info to be found on it online more then a few songs of MJ are probably about her.
Dirty DIana wink
Bruce and Stevie going back and forth is an explosion.
Nothing will ever top this in music history for me.
Can I just say THANK YOU for knowing who these people are and truly appreciating it…these were the good days ❤️
Absolutely good days! Young MTV era when everything was magical
Thanks guys for this
"MJFOREVER ALWAYS"👼❤️✌🏼
I was 9 yrs old when this song came out and it blew my mind. I've been asked to pick my 5 favorite artists from this song. So here goes.
1. Michael Jackson
2. Bob Dylan
3. Stevie wonder
4. Ray Charles
5. Lionel richie and Steve Perry.
Great reaction video. I really appreciate when people respect great artists, and there dedication.
I agree William. I have watched a few We are the World reaction videos and this is best so far because you can tell they recognize the artists, there is an appreciation for their music and talent.

They are like the Avengers of Music !
I love that you guys knew who all the singers were already. Refreshing to see someone with knowledge.
cyndi lauper’s part......nailed it!
There is a behind the scene video, where something funny happened while they were recording. Cindy was told to take off her jewelry, because of the metallic noises and she felt very embarrassed 😳😂
1:39 - THE KING OF POP MICHAEL JACKSON
2:36 so funny, Bruce Springsteen like Godzilla eats nails and glass!
BUT FIRST HE EATS concrete for breakfast.:-)
Hilarious!!!
He was sick that day. That's why he sounded so rough.
@@debramorano He sounded great, to me that passion was incredible!!!
I wonder what he eats for dinner. Lol
My opinion, the greatest song and assemblage of musical talent ever for any cause. Ever! You'll never see this amount of talent together again for one song, one cause. NEVER!!
go look at band aids "do they know its Christmas" the Brits did it first and they were sheer magic
@@julieeverett7442 En USA se los follaron con este himno
Best we are the world reaction I've seen. U actually know who's singing!!!
I totally agree with you on the Bruce/Stevie pairing. That is a call and response that we never knew we needed!! I don't know who said "Let's try this"....but bless them for it!!!
This and the band aid single combined are probably the most densely packed 7 or 8 minutes of vocal and musical talent in the history of humankind.
Michael Jackson Wrote and co produced about 95% of the song, lionel and quincy did the rest.
Lionel basically only came up with the first melody and Michael took it from there and made a complete solo demo of the song before anyone stepped foot in the studio to do the song. Michael had vocals any all ready thats why he seemed quite chill
36 years down the memory lane...and I;m still in awe with that part of Stevie and Bruce... can't get over it. So damn good!!!!
I love that too! ❤️
Stevie Wonders voice is heaven to my soul❤
Boy am I so glad you guys named one artist after another, 1985 an iconic song came out when Africa is being ravaged by famine. this song always tears me up. So magical yet so poignant...
Thanks for reacting to the classic masters of the 80's. I love them all too!
It’s the era that I grew up in and when I first started thinking about music as a career! Love them all!
Thank you for the comments about James Ingram. Too many people don't recognize him, and as you said, there was something magical about him. And you acknowledged Jeffrey Osborne too. Two beautiful voices that really don't get any love these days.
My God..its like the national anthem when i was in grade school.. thanks for identifying each and every singer...😍
Kenny Rogers..man...his vocals are terrific. I loved Willie Nelson vocals too...and of course Bob Dylan's...his voice is so unique.
So true!
“It’s like love and pain” LMAOOO
Willie never gets old, he always old
Bruce voice is electric men. Nobody can't adopt that voice
Fun fact about recording of this audio/video is that when they finished and went home, Quincy Jones realized they`re short with material, Steve Wonder was still there and Bruce Springsteen drove back and they recorded some additional singing. That`s the reason there`s more Bruce and Steve then others.
So that's why Stevie had a different outfit! Wondered that for years.
You guys should watch the making of "We Are The World". It is awesome, and the talent in this group is unbelievable, all world class singers in their own right all in one place at the same time.incredible.
Omg you can feel the soul in that room
It's nice hearing that you know everybody's name is in the group
I love how you know each and every of these iconic singers🙂
❤️❤️❤️
The best voices in my opinion Stevie Wonder, Kenny Loggins, Daryl Hall and of course "the voice" Steve Perry.
Steve perry was my fav singer of all time and still is...
Micheal Jackson bro
You spelled Michael Jackson's name wrong
Bruce Springsteen for me
Are i dumb u spelled mjs name wrong
I simply love that you two knew all these artists. It kills me when I see reactors watch/listen to this who don't have a clue as to who most of them are.
All these greats on one stage joining for a single purpose, a beautiful thing ❤
For me, it was a very special time in music. MTV/VH1 was everywhere! One of my friends got to be in the studio for original and the remake!
Still gives me goosebumps all these years later!
One of the best songs of all time
"The other guy" Dan Aykroyd was half of the Blues Brothers...multi platinum selling blues group (and hilarious movie/SNL skit)...also Dan was a talented harmonica player and supported all blues musicians :)
Initial backing tracks were recorded at Kenny Rogers' Lion Share Recording Studio and the remainder of recording sessions with the artists were recorded at A&M Recording Studios (thanks to Herb Alpert) after the American Music Awards show on January 28, 1985.
That’s awesome knowledge! One of my friends worked on both the original and the remake. Said it was the most incredible time witnessing the whole thing.
We can't do this today cuz we ain't got the superstar talent anymore
So glad you guys know all the singers. Another vocal coach didn't know James Ingram. I was so let down
Willie, Ray Charles, Stevie, Michael, Bob Dylan, The Boss...I was lucky to have lived in these times.
Great review. Love that you called out EVERY singer... First time I've seen this song reviewed and that happen... This song has a special place in my heart. So good. Best group of singers ever assembled. Bravo!!!
❤️❤️❤️
I watched this when I was 10 years....the greatest artists together. Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote this song. Love when Michael/Diana ross sing...but my favourite is Springsteen/Stevie wonder part...and Ray Charles.....gave so much soul & funk.
3 years late to watching this video...but after watching about 50 people react to this video...can i just tell y'all how refreshing it is that you didn't refer to Diana Ross as, "that lady singing after Michael Jackson"!!! Great reaction, and loved hearing your little tidbits about all the different artists!!!
There had never been and will never be such an amount of talent gathered in one single room! Thank god I was a teenager in the 80's! Life was so much more simple and fun! This video is a wonderful testimony of those times.
This is the greatest ensemble of iconic, legendary, singers, to be in one recording section. It will never, ever, be duplicated again. I'm sorry no collection of singers today will come close. These are THE G.O.A.T.S. singing one song. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL. CLASSIC!
great reaction this is incredible song so many legendary artists
So many legends in the same & so many legends gone. 😢🥰
It's so cool to see people who grew up with it like I did and KNOW these people. ♥ Btw, the guy with the glasses next to Harry Belafonte is Dan Akroyd. Yes. THAT Dan Akroyd. Lol. Also, the lady in the yellow headband next to Bette Midler is Latoya Jackson, Michael's sister. On the other side of her was Randy Jackson, the youngest brother. Brothers Marlon, Jackie, and Tito were on the riser behind them.
Of all the reactions I’ve seen, you guys are the most knowledgeable, kudos. These artists are all from my generation, so I knew them all, and having Quincy arrange and produce this, just puts the song into the stratosphere. Love your reaction.
The guy at 6:48 was Lindsey Buckingham from Fleetwood Mac, some of the best singers of all time, were involved in this project.
Truly incredible. Lindsey is a huge talent. Too bad he’s no longer with Fleetwood Mac.
i'm a 2005 kid so i dont know how much this song means to all of the people who grew up witht his but i can imagine how much this meant to people. just so many legends singing about love and how to become connected. things like this shouldl be made these days too. just so much fun to watch
Very professional reaction! This song makes me cry and brings fantastic memories :ʼ)
Me and a few other people would be amazed to see your reaction to Viki Gabor - ''Forever and a night''. It's her newest single :)
Of course I recommend also her acoustic performances:
- Viki Gabor - koncert z dużego pokoju
-Viki Gabor LIVE w RMF FM - Back to Black (Amy Winehouse cover)

I’m sensing great love from quite a few fans for Viki Gabor! She is definitely on the list!
Bruce eats metal vocalists for breakfast
I don't know who that guy is. ( most do not regonize him ) So funny because he is one of the legendary blues brothers Dan Aykroyd. A huge music movie of the 80's that every musician has seen.
I did like 3 to 4 double takes on this video just to find him. It was almost like trying to find “where is Waldo”
But I found him! And all the memories of Ghostbusters, Spies like us, trading places, Saturday night live, Bassomatic, Blues Bros, just her to come back. What a story thanks for inviting us.
Blessings Dash Philip
This was the most incredible team-up ever! Lionel Richie considered doing a remake in 2020 in response to the COVID pandemic, which ended up being aired on the finale of that year's American Idol, but it doesn't come close to the majesty of the original. I myself even came up with my own We Are The World 2020 dream lineup, would've brought a good majority of the group from the 1985 original and 2010 25th anniversary remake back along with some of today's hottest artists. Thanks to you for keeping the magic of the song alive for many generations to come.
Man i miss music like this. The soul the power. The meaning behind songs the love everyone had for everyone else.
Really nice reaction video. Enjoyed watching you two savor the song.
I don't think this level of talent and star power could be assembled today. Most of these artists are now considered icons.
Finally a reaction to this song where the reactors know most of these legends on it.
Great piece , refreshing to see people who recognise all the singers . I was today years old when I discovered the blonde woman was Kim Carnes . Thank you!
I loved this. I enjoyed reacting to it as well. What a fantastic era for music. So much soul.
Some of my favorite artists were in here. Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Bette Midler, Cyndi Lauper, Willie Nelson, Dionne Warwick, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, LaToya (NOT Janet), Randy, Marlon and Tito Jackson
Please react to Pentatonix's cover of "Halleluyah" if you haven't already.
That's whole lotta great in one room
"Love and Pain"! YES! Exactly!
