I look at Cheng Yu as an interesting & fun break from more disciplined learning and also a way to get insights into Chinese culture. I've defintely heard ban tu er fei before but haven't really internalized it's characters yet. 半途而废 and I am about certain it means "don't give up half-way". I think the best way to teach them is to come up with a four word english equivalent ideally one which rhymes 不可思议 but I can't believe it is an example I just came up with to remember bu ke si yi The toughest part of learning Chinese vocabulary is the complete lack of cognates. All we can do is come up with mnemonics like these. xin zai le huo schadenfreude

Considering what is going on in my country right now...😂 You have another idiom I could also easily use, I think. My question, is it “correct” Chinese to use two Chengyu in two consecutive sentences? I want to surprise the boys with some sarcastic, funny description; but I’m unsure if there are any unwritten “rules” about using idioms.
