In this video, MIRA Safety CEO Roman Zrazhevskiy addresses the frequently asked question: “How long does a filter last while in use?” He explains that the answer depends on several factors, including the type of contaminants, their concentration, the user's breathing rate, and atmospheric conditions. He acknowledges that it’s challenging to provide a precise duration without specific details; however, there is a formula available on the website and filter brochures to help calculate it. For preparedness, it's advised to have two filters per person for each day, for up to three days.

    Thank you MIRA!
One more thing worth mentioning: if you feel, smell or taste what you’re trying to keep filtered out, you are WAY too late!

2 for 1 for 3 is a very good system to go by. I used M17A2 masks for restoration work for many... many years. I found that with regular use with oil paints, particles such as fiberglass dust, etc. I could tie a rag around the intake to drag to clean spots every few minutes and I could use a filter for around 32 hours.
If I was in a heavy denatured alcohol or lacquer thinner environment, new filters would burn out in under 4 hours. I found out the hard way spraying Bin primer in an enclosed house. I was too drunk to drive by the time I finished. I didn't notice the filters giving out so fast because it was very subtle at first (this is the dangerous part, because you aren't aware of this a substance could end you due to subtle buildup). I only realized they had completely saturated and failed when I took the mask off and didn't notice any difference in smell from within the mask to the enclosed house as I was exiting. I called my boss to tell him the situation and he sent a coworker over with some beer to push out the denatured alcohol and drive me home.
So yes, if you are going to be in an area where your filters will even possibly be challenged by heavy concentrations, make sure you pack a stack of them. And Keep the proper canteen and lid with you.

This is absolutely Excellent advice you just gave. Thank you sir.
One question: in your opening paragraph, you said you could tie a rag around the intake to “to drag to clean spots every few minutes”….what do you mean by that?

Gas mask filters is essentially scuba on land. Each filter/tank has different uses for different lengths of time. Up to you to become proficient

Well said, and if you have a tank it's technically SCBA - just missing the U. :)

Lmfao that's $1,400 Canadian for the filters, taxes and shipping for just 3 day's 😅🤣😂 That's roughly $13,500 for a 1 month supply 🙄 Please do explain where people are going to find the money for that ? The truth of the matter is a CBRN filter will actually last 8 hours of Continuous use. So if you go out for 2 hour's scavenging for food, water, medicine each week during a Nuclear disaster 1 filter will actually last 1 month. It's simple math.
