When I was a kid, Redondo was my dad's favorite place. We woukd to to the fresh fish market and buy fresh steamed crabs and eat them on the benches. Many years later when my dad was dying of cancer he asked me to take him there one last time. I took him there so he can enjoy his memories. The morning after he passed, I drove out there to sit and remember him. Never fished the breakwater and Redodno wasn't the prettiest place but it holds dear memories for me.
My best recommendation *(for the breakwall/jetty)* would be to use lead head jigs with soft plastic bodies. You can buy bags of those. Also make sure the hook on those are facing upwards. You WILL regret taking your favorite lures after losing them. OR: use cut bait such as squid or your cheapest grocery store bought RAW shrimp with a hi/lo rig using a torpedo sinker at the bottom.
Me and my boys used to fish there years ago. Bubble and fly and gold crockodile. My boys the twins hooked 49 for one and 51 for the other. Argued about it all the way home.
Whoa, that's King Harbor, isn't it? We were bonita fishing that place in the 1990's. I might be coming back just for old time's sake. You got a lot of buddies there, so much fun.
This reminds me to get my fishing license at the beginning of the year. I wanna start fishing again for stress relief. Happy new year and blessings to you and your family.
Sorry you ate it bro, you wouldn’t catch me out there that far on the jetty. Maybe when I was younger, lol 😝. I’m 76 now so I have to be be more careful… I grew up in SoCal and fished a lot at Redondo. Loved the bonito and mackerel action! Most people don’t like those two fish because they’re oily and strong in flavor. My Filipina wife and I absolutely love stronger tasting fish so bonito and mackerel are high on our list. Anyway, I enjoyed your video and I hope to see more… Dan Suzuki, Retired USAF and Vietnam Vet (:
About 55 years ago, my brother and I would snag bonito off the rocks near the lagoon with a 3 oz. weight and two big treble hooks. We'd catch 8 pounders. We were 12 and 13 years old.
Wait, WHAT?!?! You ain't been on the boats?!?! THESE DAYS?!?!?! OH DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!! There be Bluefin Tuna out dere, there be Yellowtail out dere, there be EVERYTHING out dere!! YOU GOTTA GO!! Heck, you already got yo license for the break wall!
I used to fish there with my father when I was 8 years old. I hated climbing over those rocks with my short legs. There used to be a lot of crabs between the rocks. I didn't see any in the video
Was surf fishing and on a 1 cast out my leader snapped and I lost my first luckycraft lure that bought and on another occasion snagged my krocodile spoon
That Jetty is dangerous as hell. I'd stay away unless your young, brave, and VERY sure footed. It's no joke. Boulders the size of cars and most are not flat on top.
Bro I feel you on losing that bonita. I caught one on a sibiki rig and as soon as I saw it close to the surface I was going to flip him into the dock and bam the line broke I just saw him swim away calmly and I was like F***k first one ever and I lost it. It was in Newport Beach/Balboa dock
Its a trick to fishing that wall .. we don't even go out all the way to the end .. we use a floater with ghost shrimp catch some amazing opal eye.. and throw out lures for the Makeral and Bonito.
Not sure what your up to today, but the gf and i are heading there to fish if you want to roll by. Anyways great video, tight lines and maybe next time we can link up if you can't make it.
Heres my story. I was on an inflatable boat with my fiancee and the wind picked up and our motor died. 3 hours of paddling by hand just to find out my motor had a short-circuit and I just had to press a red button. lol What was the first lure you were using? Awesome catches!
LOL geez that's one way to never forget that red button for the rest of your life LOL. The first jig I was using is a Peche jig. 40g I like using the blue and pink. Although any blue and pink lure ranging from the 40 G to 60 G weight does real well I find. On Piers I let it sink to the bottom and then jig it from the bottom. With Bonita on the piers I the best luck when they are boiling and I can toss it right into the boil so I get a reaction strike so that's pretty rare but you can catch mackerel and Bonita on that pretty easily
Man, that must have been before or after my lunch break. Cuz I remember I wasn't catching shiiiiiiit! 😂 did you get a video of that seal eating a sting ray?
I'm usually there a few times a month at least. Right now it's been pretty slow other than mackerel. I can't wait till it warms up so we can get some sharks and stingrays
@@WETTHATLINE I hit Moonstone and Topaz Jetty this morning and nothing. Throwing a lucky craft metallic sardine, 3/4oz crocodile, and a feathered kastmaster. Not even one hit. I just sent you a follow on IG.
Limits on yellows are the same on bonitos. Limit is 10 but 5 of those must be over 25 inches. You can get 5 over 10inches but under 24 after those 5 they must be over 24
took up fishing for the first time when one of those free fishing days came up. been thinking about what i could improve on since and happened to find your channel. will check out your other videos when i have the chance.
there used to be a lot of very big halibut right in that corner late 60's. Next time cast a main line far as you can with an anchor type lead. connect about 3 feet of leader to a snap swivel use hook to match bait, sardine small mackerel and attach to main line slide it into the water. the bait will work its way to the bottom if not eaten first. I was a kid the old guys owned that spot they used to make us move mom would drop me of and i would spend the night. live sardines were a buck? I still have live bait tickets from back then.
Daaang yeah the further back you go the better the fishing was. I just recently saw someone catch a 23 inch halibut they're not very big but they are around. I do that set up with a dead sardine or mackerel for leopard sharks and bat rays
@@WETTHATLINE Great stuff enjoy your travels. Have a feeling we'll fish together one day. Sorry the wall got a bite glad no broke parts. The things we do for that tight line. .

Thank you for sharing that story. You're right it's not the prettiest place but it has a lot of memories in our hearts I believe
You are blessed to have such sweet memories. And good on ya for recognizing it.
Thanks for that very moving story about your dad.

You don't need a license fishing a jetty, just like the pier.

I'll have to try the float!
@@WETTHATLINE yes with like atleast a
5ft leader.. and a full ghost shrimp and keep the float against the rocks.

Just saw this. I was super busy today but next time we shall see. Did you guys catch anything?
I took my dad and bro out to fish for Father’s Day and I provided the lures and rods. They started losing my lures haha no regrets tho
Does rocks are ruthless! That's an awesome trip though
Subscribed! Kee it up.
Thanks brotha!
sick video
Thanks!
In case it didn't occur to u. Rubber boots aren't the appropriate footware for bouldering. You mightn't have slipped if you wore hiking boots/shoes.
Oh a thousand percent I just didn't have any LOL
Love fishing for Bonito and they are great to eat as well if you take care of them. Gatta take the boat to just anchor up and enjoy the bones soon.

We caught 100 fish from the pier
Dang! Any bonita?
I’d catch them on my kayak right where you were at, back in 2009
Good times
when is the next time ur going to be at redondo beach
Next week for sure. Tomorrow I'm doing the first meet up at Santa Monica Pier at 5pm
Don’t poach Bonito. Limit is 5
You're right! There are too many people taking more than they need and it doesn't help the fishery💯
Isn't 5 under twenty four inches?
And 5 more over 24 inches for a total of 10 bonito?
