Between the Williams Academy boys, I'm actually more excited for Colapinto. Yes, Franco finished behind Zak, but remembering his season, he had a ton of bad luck, even having a victory taken away from him due to a technical infringement. Ironically, that win that was taken away from Franco was given to Zak.
Who knows, Colapinto might be 2024's dark horse

The one name you unfortunately missed is Franco Colapinto. One of the quickest guys in F3 - let's not forget the debut pole with new team VAR last year and some stellar drives in 2023 despite not being with one of the true top teams - and he has succeeded in just about every car he's driven, which included a endurance racing campaign in ELMS (driving an LMP2). He'll be a very tough match for Hauger and I wouldn't be surprised if Franco outperformed Dennis convincingly.

I don't think Colapinto is gonna be in the fight this year, let alone fight Hauger who is really experienced. I'd say he's gonna be a regular top 10 finisher with some quick flashes in the top 5. Maybe for 25 he could be a challenger, but for now he's not a heavy contender.

What came out of that season was pretty shit though. Mick ended up being an F2 champion who's not actually good enough for F1 (just like Nyck), yet Mazepin was so much worse he made Mick look good. Mazepin is genuinely the worst F1 driver we've had the last decade, dude never deserved an F1 seat (he wasn't even fighting for the F2 title and finished 5th), yet he got it (thankfully short-lived). And because of him buying a seat, we never got to see what Ilott or Shwartzman would do in an F1 car. They're both better drivers than Mick imo, but drew the short straw in 2020 and lost the title to him. The only good thing that's come out of that season is Yuki, which nearly wasn't even that, but luckily AT kept him despite a shit rookie season and is now a solid F1 driver. And I'm happy for him, since he was the best/most impressive driver in 2020 F2 imo.

    • @princeendymion9044

@@Robalexe He only got that seat because of the financial troubles Haas was in due to Covid. Reality was that Ferrari wanted to place both Illot and Schumacher at Haas while they kept Giovinazzi at Alfa Romeo. But because of the issues Haas had, they decided to go with Schumacher (who was both the F2 champion and brought some sponsors to the team) and had to replace Magnussen with Mazepin because of the Uralkali money he brought which kept the team afloat.

Hulkenburg, Magnussen, Zhou, Bottas, Sargeant, Ocon, Perez and Ricciardo are all drivers I can see not being on the grid in 2025, and with this much stacked talent as well as the previous F2 winners, the pressure on the F1 drivers to deliver is higher than ever.

The F2/24 looks great and not as awkward as the F2/18. Lets hope they fixed that engine too. Alpine uses the same basic engine with over 800hp, GDi, ALS and an awesome sound in their Hypercar. So the basis is there.

I agree. I think Merc plans to replace Hamilton starting 2026, when Lewis' current contract ends. He seems to be super talented and will be the perfect driver alongside Russell, so Merc continues to have the best driver pairing even after Hamilton era ends.
But just as you, I am really looking forward to Miyata. Considering he is unexperienced with European tracks and Pirelli tyres and will drive in ELMS at the same time, I don't think his 1st season will be too strong. But if he gets an additional season, I'm pretty sure he'll fight for the championship.

It's for sure that the YTR (young talent revolution) is coming as these drivers in f1 are getting older, especially coming into 2025, 2026, and 2027. It's likely that we will see Fernando, Lewis, Hulk, Checo, maybe even KMAG & VB, all leave due to age, plus the struggling talent that is Logan Sargeant & you could argue even Yuki. All of these names are extremely important for the future.

2024 could be genuinely a great year for F1 and F2, F2 with the new cars and a potential great season with Bearman & Antonelli in the same team, the cars likely leading to closer action as well.
As for F1, despite Verstappen smashing everyone it was one of the closest seasons ever in terms of performance (behind Max) hopefully if everyone else has closed the gap to Red Bull it could be an all timer with Verstappen, Ferrari, Mclaren and Mercedes all looking strong with Aston Martin and Racing Bulls likely being in the mix too.
There's a lot to be excited about.

And Ayao Komatsu, whom you quoted, was talking about the competition Ritmo will face in F2 to Japanese media - Miyata will really have to go in all guns blazing.
I'm just an Alonso fanboy (like Tsunoda), so I wish Pepe Marti the best of luck. That fight for P4~5 at 18years of age was incredible - it really reminded me of Yuki's first and last campaign with Carlin
