      Glasses, like age, are inevitable... I use .010 gauge GHS boomers. I find they're the best strings out there. Glad I could help. Have fun and rock on! Cheers...

    I just got a Fritz Ruler. Couldn't make head nor tail of it!! 😂 I guess the action settings are within "The Range" of high and low action, as there is nothing to measure the exact mm's by!? Makes sense re the other crazy side though re the nut, strings etc! Thanks
    I have played acoustic for some years. I'm an old guy too! Just bought an electric and am re visiting lead. I kind of played a little decades ago. How the hell do you work out the fretboard!? I hear guys like you play and think "I wish I could do that!" Oh well, trying to find my way!! Rock on! 🎸

      It is a mysterious tool indeed... As per working out the fretboard: Try pentatonic scales daily, up and down the entire neck. Single to quadruplets in picking. Use a metronome to lock down your tempos as you run scales too. Check out my video on pentatonic scales, etc. Cheers and thank you for the comment.

    Hope you can help me with something on using the fritz ruler. When measuring string action height, is the string supposed to line up with the top of the black bar mark? or bottom of the bar? And should that line up to the top of the string or to bottom (if looking level across the width of the fretboard?
    OR.....Is the little arrow pointing down from the bar supposed to point to the top of the string?
    Hopefully you receive this. My ruler came with ZERO instructions, of course lol. Any help on this is appreciated, because there is actually quite a bit of difference/distance between those 3 possible interpretations on how to take the measurement! 😅

    • @MichaelJacques
      @MichaelJacques  Рік тому

      Hello. It's basically a feeler gauge. so I'd use it consistent to my preference, meaning whatever measurement you use, that's the one. It is a drag it has no instructions but is a useful feeler gauge at best. Hope that helps...

    I found that Fritz Ruler thing in many ebay tool sets and thought the same. I play an repair (my) electric guitars for more than 30 years and have never even heard of this. But the Chinese tend to give their products german names sometimes.

    hi sir how can you adjust the pickup height using this fritz ruler

    • @MichaelJacques
      @MichaelJacques  10 місяців тому +1

      Well, I'm not a guitar repair man but if it were me, I'd use the measurements (ruler) to adjust the pickup height to match either the factory specification or to your own personal preference. Hope that helps.

    should those black marker things on the fritz ruler be in line with the string or right on top of the top portion of the string?

    • @MichaelJacques
      @MichaelJacques  Рік тому

      Basically, it has a few measurements. One is a string height at the 12th, the other markers are for nut width and p/u height. It's a useful tool for doing measurements at home. The markers are akin to a feeler gauge (IMO), just use it to tweak the guitar to fit your style. Hope that helps...

      @@MichaelJacques thanks for the quick reply. Sorry i wasnt clear in my question. I meant the horizontal markers for 6th and 1st strings (labelled high
      and low for an electric Guitar). Should those markers align with the respective strings while setting the action of the guitar or should the strings be aligned right under those markers?

    • @MichaelJacques

      I've been as detailed as possible. It measures the fret height, P/U height, nut width, etc. If you know a little about setting up a guitar, it's a useful tool for exacting measurements. If you are not experienced in basic set-ups then I can see how it would be hard to decipher. Best to go to your local tech if you are unsure about how to set up a guitar at home. cheers and rock on!

      @@joshuawelker5492 Most basic set ups are simple. A truss, and bridge adjust should do the trick. But again, if you are not comfortable doing that, I'd find a good repair man locally. Cheers.

      Lol I get it! From Ace ventura right? 😅
      Hey, for action height....do you happen to know if you're supposed to measure string top, to the top of the black bar? Or vice versa? Or string top to the arrow pointing down?
      Too many ways of interpreting how to take the measurement that would give very different readings!! And no freaking instructions!! Lol
