      You just have to try it and experiment with it, I have an Ibanez with a Floyd rose and I was too scared to set the guitar up but it needed it badly and I didn't have money for it at the time, so I just took a chance and gave it a try, it took me a while but I learned a lot from it and I can set almost any guitar up now :)

    A well produced and informative video. I have watched many instructional videos on intonation and guitar action which have helped me lower my action and improve playability, but this is the best I have seen to date and the additional detail i.e. measurement at the bridge and adjustment of the saddle using your Excel calculation is so useful Thank you Mark.

    You just need to remove two times the amount of material on the saddle with however much you want to reduce the action at the 12th fret (e.g. you want to lower the action at the 12th by 2/64, then shave off 4/64 at the saddle)

    Great information. I started doing all my own guitar work, about 8 years ago. I would Add 1 thing = the usage of a Fret Rocker, if there is just a "trouble spot" and not affecting the Entire Guitar. Also when making Any adjustments - be sure to go Little-by-little. Enjoyed your video. Stay Safe. oNe LovE from NYC

    Nice video on adjusting the string action. I had a guitar with a decent nut, but no relief and a high saddle. I thought my string action was good but I was fooling myself because without the relief it had me fighting with the strings and making my playing harder instead of more fluid.
    After adding slight relief and removing just a touch of material from the saddle, I was able to correct the issue and now enjoy playing my dreadnought acoustic more than ever.
    Your video was a great help and very instructive.Thank you

    Hi and thanks for this - I usually work on electrics, but I've been reconditioning a slightly beaten up acoustic for a child's Christmas present (his parents can't afford a new acoustic, and I had a couple hanging around) This was really helpful, especially the spreadsheet. Excellent explanation and clear steps. An old Encore has now got better action than my own Godin.

    I do have a question in mind. What happens if you've adjusted everything and the saddle is low now that it might actually hit the bridge itself if sanded enough. Is it possible to sand off the bridge itself? Or is that a bad idea?

      hay 2 soluciones: la 1era. es cambiar por otra silla nueva....y 2da: si la silla esta demasiada baja tienes que agregarle polvo de hueso lijado con la pega la brujita por debajo de la silla dejar secar y luego lijar de nuevo hasta obtener la dimension adecuada.

    • @charlie-obrien
      @charlie-obrien Рік тому

      Yes. But as a final resort. You don't want to remove material from the bridge, for the sake structural integrity and resonance, until you have exhausted and confirmed that all else was done properly.
      There is no adding it back.

    Bought a new Yamaha guitar and the action was too high for me.
    Took it to a tech and he adjusted the truss rod, filed down saddle.
    The action was still a bit high at the first fret so he cut the string slots deeper.
    The first 3 strings seem to set pretty well but the bottom 3 strings (especially the B and E) are sitting down in the slot a bit.
    I'd say they are down in there approximately double the thickness of the string.
    Is that a problem?

    • @chardmb
      @chardmb 4 роки тому

      Its a problem if the strings sounds like a sitar. An easy fix would be to shave off the top of the nut over the G B e with a sandpaper until its flush with the top of the strings
