Nice break down of the systems; I'm a big fan of my Wicked Edge Gen 3 Pro.... Not needing to flip the blade back and forth is nice for sure. Like you said at the end, a better price comparison may be the WE GO vs the WorkSharp. Thanks for taking the time to do this; good points all around!

hows that heavy price for the wicked edge justified? is it made out of steel or aluminum ? for that money Id buy an electric professional sharpener like Tormek
I was very impressed with the precision pro when i saw it at Shotshow. I actually did a video on it while i was there. Unfortunately after i got back home the video wasn't there. Somehow i either didn’t hit record or i erased it somehow. I was so pissed at myself. Ive gotten some very sharp edges with the precision elite, so i can only imagine how much better they could be with all the improvements. Definitely will be picking one up in the future.
I have other models from worksharp and one from Spyderco and to be honest unless you have many dull knives I would stick to the lower price range for knife sharpeners. I have many knives and long choppers but would not want to pay over $1500 for a sharpener. Maintenance is the key.
Awesome review. I have the wicked Edge with all the toys. It is unmatched in performance, but the price is also bananas. I got mine on sale but it was still around $1500 with all the attachments I added. For the price, the work sharp seems like a high quality option that will get you a really nice result. Again, great review!
I purchased the WS PA before watching this video. I thought my edc knife was sharp before I touched it up on the WS. Unbelievable how easy it is and how wrong I was about my knife being sharp. No more guessing on angles or having an inconsistent bevel!
The wicked edge is a joke to me, there are too many cons and for that its way too overpriced - bad for big kitchen knives or any larger knives - you are very limited with sharpening stones you only can use the ones made for the system - you need 2 stones each grit - the clamp is in many cases too loose, while precision sharpening there has to be no play at all, if the knives moves even 0.1mm you don't hit the angle 100° correct - when you do 1 pass each side its almost impossible to feel a burr, so sharpening 1 side first until you get a burr will make you think why you need a second stone for that - you can't sharpen good japanese kitchen knives with the right angle of 10° or below First I wanted to buy the wicked edge and I am so glad I didnt! I decided to get an TSPROF K03 system and it is so fucking amazing... you can use a ton of different sharpening stones, even the ones not made for guided systems, the knife holds so freaking tight there is no way to move the slightest bit You can sharpen blades up to 24" The quality is outstanding The flip system is so complex it will never wear out...
I'm seriously considering the Professional Precision Adjust. For the money it looks top notch! Others that I have considered are the TS Prof Kadet and the VIper Sharp system. All look great! I have also considered sharpening as a side job. If I did I would consider the Wicked Edge or the most expensive TS Prof system, the K03. Was your sharpening business profitable? Do you still do it?
Hello there! I noticed theres third party attachments to hold 1x4 inch kme stones that go up to 20000 grit in the precision adjust, it could be interesting to revisit
Got mine yesterday, two questions. 1. Does any else notice a large knife will wiggle downwards in the clamp with just the weight of the arm? With the lightest pressure the knife angles downward and you can see that the stone is not removing metal from edge. So if a knife with a 20’ edge is placed in there, it is taking metal away on the shoulder of the angle. 2. How long does it take to grind an edge down to get rid of nicks? I started with the coarsest and worked and worked at it and still s could see them. Five passes per side on the Ken Onion electric and gone.
Would you recommend the professional precision adjust or the WE GO? I’ve been sharpening knives for around 20 years with stones and stropes and can get them razor sharp but want to get something different to mess with.
I think Wicked Edge is more fun to use and faster but you are going to spend a little more to get the stones you want (Most important investment) If you are just curious and want to try something new the Pro PA from work sharp is better value and more technical

Lining it up should be second nature For anyone who has been using a miter saw or a chop saw, You can’t trust things to lock in on zero. Just like measuring always double check everything before you get started.
Not a bad review. Only feedback is that the comparison of the two and $$$ is not one-to-one and a bit misleading. The Wicked Sharp is a professional seup and the additional add-ons are things the Work Sharp doesn’t even offer.
Simple… for home/personal use, the work sharp. But if I’m sharpening professionally, the Wicked. Cost is tax deductible for a business and you can turn knives faster for improved volume
Very true but you also run the risk of over heating the steel and removing a lot of material quickly Both have pros and cons just depends on what your mission is and what knives you are sharpening! 👊🏽🔪
@tacticaltavern i cannot get either in Romania so I am working on a field sharpener from WS, and the good old wetstones. But I would invest in the PA Profeasional for my hobby. Diamond plates just work that much faster than wetstones. I scrapped the coating on my Bugout on the corner of the wetstone by mistake, and PA pro would definitely avoid that.
Absolutely you get a lot of control with the Pro PA- on the bright side you are learning the basics of sharpening using the diamonds/stones which means your edges are going to be amazing on the Pro PA! Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Jesus, for $3k you could just get a whole lineup of WS Ken Onions, each with it's own dedicated belt grit and sharpen 200 knives an hour and probably still save $2,000
A $3000 sharpener is not gonna turn your $10 knife into a $100 knife but that $300 sharpener can keep your $100 knife at value. Work Sharp just need to introduce a 1200 grit stone so you can give your knife a mirror finish with the ceramic stone.
This is my opinion and just my opinion, and like my mother always told me. Opinions are like buttholes. Everyone has one and they all stink. But I could never justify spending $3,000 on something that you can do for much cheaper with other brands or systems of sharpening. There’s nothing you pointed out in the pros that would ever justify that to me. Granted I’m not a shop that sharpens knives all day, but most professional knife makes I’ve seen just use a belt sander to sharper their knifes with some whet stones at the end to get a really polished finish. I’ve yet to see a professional knife maker use this type of system. So I can’t really believe it’s that desirable to them either. But again, all just my opinion. Thanks for the in depth video going over both brands.
@@tacticaltavern I had come from "regular" clamp systems when I got it, most recently prior, a KME. I didn't care for the vertical mounting. The motion of the stones was unnatural for me, and less appealing than my kme. Not my thing personally.
If I didn't own a Kadet I would get the WS Pro. I like how my Kadet can use any plate from any manufacturer AND how it can convex with the appropriate attachment.
I tried buying this at the initial release and had it my cart to checkout. It didn’t go through. I know these systems do not give a constant angle if there is any curve on a blade and was OK when I decided to try and buy it. With all of the delays, I ended up buying three dual sided venev dragon stones. I will keep with freehand and get consistent angles across the blade. Money was not an issue as each venev stone was almost the price of the work sharp system….poor, poor rollout of the product.
Both Wicked Edge and Work Sharp Precision Adjust and other many systems that are made of plastic or that contain plastic components or other fragile, elastic, flexible materials, are a mess and no matter what the manufacturers promise, they are just dust in the eye. Because of the plastics, these systems are not stable, they are not fixed, they are not balanced, they buckle, they produce eccentric movements and vibrations, swing, they are flexible, which affects the sharpening angle, not visibly, but physically. In addition, the plastic loses its proportions and properties, as it wears out quickly, grinds, the holes widen and become unstable, and for a perfect sharpening we need a perfect support in which the angle remains stable, fixed, stiff. This model of clamps specific to them, they are horrible, because they do not allow sharpening any knife as their manufacturers promise, but only medium knives can be sharpened. Knives with a small, narrow blade cannot be sharpened with a good angle, because the stone rub the clamp. And the big knives will have an uneven angle because the blade takes a swing especially at the tip due to the clip being too narrow for big blades. The first version of Precision Adjust was a total failure, because all its components move in all directions. The coupling support with the magnet moves on the threaded shaft and support bar. The fixing rod from the stone holder moves in the coupling support with the magnet. And the clamp for holding the knives moves up and down as if it were made of a sponge. Where is that precision when all components flambé in all parts? Precision Adjust? Many of those who bought such systems, made all kinds of updates with the replacement of clamps, adapters for holding the clamp, support for anchoring the clamp so that it does not buckle, etc. because without these updates these systems are a waste of money, cheaply made like low-cost Chinese, but with a more pleasant design. Even the name is false, Precision Adjust and it is a total loss. With the money invested in updates to be able to use this system at better parameters, it is better to buy a good, precise and well-designed system from the beginning, not low-cost plastic for a lot of money. From absolutely all the systems I tried, being many in number, I can say that almost all of these which are better performing, only two are truly true systems with the best performances. TSprof and Hapstone. Both are built entirely of metal, with a very solid and resistant structure, high precision, both are very stable, very balanced, very well anchored, very well centered, very rigid, with a very well designed angle adjustment system, gear rail, magnetic, etc., and in addition to all this, both also offer the possibility of customization with a wide range of different clamps, which allows sharpening any knife, with any kind of blade starting from the razor blade to the axe. They have a lot of accessories, such as stone holders, all very good, completely metal or aluminum, and Hapstone also have a very elegant and beautiful design especially at stone holders. I was a little more detailed, for those who want to purchase a good and high-performance sharpening system, but it is difficult to decide which one, as there are many.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and detailed explanation! I am sure many people will appreciate it because I certainly did! Cheers and thanks for watching and adding to the community💪🏽⚔️
@@tacticaltavern Thanks for appreciation. I would be happy if you could do a review with TSprof, any of their models, vs any other system, or Hapstone also any of their models vs other systems such as Wiched Edge, Work Sharp, Lansky, KME, etc. and people can see the difference significantly. Thanks again and good luck in what you do
Take 2 identical knives and sharpen them with those 2 machines and see which sharping machine gets the knife the sharpest. Imo both of these are not worth the price. The original worksharp will sharpen the same way as the new version.
My wicked edge system was $300 and is a world of difference better than the edge pro system that was wiggle. The Edge Pro system will NEVER be as stable as the wicked edge, the engineering just isn’t as stable. It’s not even a fair comparison.
Price enfluences a greater majority of potential buyers than anything. I don't care where its made. Money doesn't grow on trees. So that there will drive the market to the 300 dollar sharpener btw will sharpen a knife just as good as the crazy expensive on to the majority of people who buy sharpeners.
There isn't a sharpener on the market worth $3000. I'm a knife smith so I know a little about knife sharpening. These things are just gimmicks to get you money

Bro, $3,000.00 I can buy another acre of land and expand my farm for that, there is simply no justification for that price point, $300.00 to $3,000.00 thats a 900% higher purchase price, does it produce an edge that is 900% sharper than the Work Sharp. Let me answer that for you, NO it doesn't nor do I think its even physically capable of doing so, as an edge is only going to get so sharp this is called law of diminishing returns. The juice is not nor will it ever been worth the squeeze unless all you do is hand sharpen knives for a living, then yea I can see it, but for anyone else its a complete waste of money at that price.
Your clearly paying for a name with the Wicked Edge - there is no way it is worth that - even if it's and low volume and custom made by magical woodland fairies in Ireland.
Super cool, but IMO if you're into knives enough to be willing to drop this kind of money on sharpeners... I'd suggest putting more time into learning how to sharpen free hand. Not just for cost effectiveness, but it's not like you're going to have these giant systems with you when you need to sharpen your knife out the field. (Or *anywhere* that's not your workshop)
Very good point I learned on free hand stones and still use them for a variety of knives but I certainly enjoy the consistency and speed of these products Also for some people who may have disabilities these still provide a way to get an edge when other factors may limit their ability to go freehand Totally valid point you have though and appreciate your comment ✅
How about just building one for $3.50 in bushings, ten bucks for automotive auto wet/dry sandpaper and some scrap wood. It will work every bit as well and will leave you with a whole lot of money left to by some most excellent kitchen knives. Heck you can print some nice scales for the thing for an additional 2 or 3 cents. Want to get fancy you can add a heim joint to the construction for $5.
That’s clearly his final pass with fine grit, which every fixed angle sharpening system recommends doing with alternating strokes. He clearly knows more than you do.
I agree you do not have to but on the finer grits I do just to make sure I have as small of a burr before stropping (If I flipped it every time for a reprofile I would sharpen one knife per month!😂)

I’ve got a Lansky and I’m thinking that one for 275 is my next purchase so it’s the wicked edge go 😊
Good choice!
I opt for Tormek with watercooling
Can never go wrong with water cooling!
The ws ken onion belt system is faster and could prove more efficient in the long run.
Very true but you also run the risk of over heating the steel and removing a lot of material quickly
Both have pros and cons just depends on what your mission is and what knives you are sharpening!
The Tormek T8 is far superior and you should really give it a go.
By the way the wicked edge is not $3000 it is $899 now. They have a gen 4 that is $999.
For sure! The sale is pretty sweet
The Wicked Edge is an investment!
Jesus, for $3k you could just get a whole lineup of WS Ken Onions, each with it's own dedicated belt grit and sharpen 200 knives an hour and probably still save $2,000
Work Sharp does make good value products!
A $3000 sharpener is not gonna turn your $10 knife into a $100 knife but that $300 sharpener can keep your $100 knife at value. Work Sharp just need to introduce a 1200 grit stone so you can give your knife a mirror finish with the ceramic stone.
I use lapping paper up to 8000 grit on the back of the other stones.
I would LOVE the wicked edge. But being retired Air Force, it ain’t gonna happen.
Have you seen their new WE 66 Obsidian model?! Its much more affordable
I'd rather have the Precision Adjust. I hated my WE. Just imo.
Oh interesting! Why did you not like it?
@@tacticaltavern I had come from "regular" clamp systems when I got it, most recently prior, a KME. I didn't care for the vertical mounting. The motion of the stones was unnatural for me, and less appealing than my kme. Not my thing personally.
@@dcamnc1 sweet good to know
This Work Sharp is really smooth and easy to use!
Appreciate your insights
Oh wow those are some very nice stones!
I agree the rollout of the product could have been much better!!
Appreciate your insights 🙌🏽🔪
They’re cheaper now anyway. Everyone is selling them for $250 now or less.
@@ToRo909r Awesome news!!
Comparing them as $300 vs $3k doesn't seem like apples to apples.
Next time we will do the wicked edge Go to even out the pricing ✅
I'd probably go with the work sharp, then take my $2700 savings and go buy an Ameribrade fastback 2x72 belt grinder with a 2hp motor and a VFD.
Honestly not a bad idea 😂👏🏽👏🏽
Thanks again and good luck in what you do
That side swiping technique makes for a less sharp result than perpendicular strokes against the edge.
Sometimes the swiping is for quickly removing materiel or going the opposite way with the leather strop
Wicked edge gen 3 is 899$ now
The WE 100% hands down.
🙌🏽💯🔪
The worksharp looks good but it's too expensive at $400
It’s $300 and I’ve seen it on Amazon for $249.
Wow!! The 1,000$+ knife sharpening kit doesn’t even come with a digital angle gauge but the $300 WS kit does?! 😂 Thats lame
Take 2 identical knives and sharpen them with those 2 machines and see which sharping machine gets the knife the sharpest. Imo both of these are not worth the price. The original worksharp will sharpen the same way as the new version.
Great idea!!
Very true
3000$ for the Wicked Edge? It's 899$ on the WE webpage...
Now it is on sale-
The new Gen 4 Pro is 1500 + all additional accessories and stones is where I got the number
There isn't a sharpener on the market worth $3000. I'm a knife smith so I know a little about knife sharpening. These things are just gimmicks to get you money
This is a very good point
Learn the basics on stone sharpening and save lots of money!!
Where's the $3000 sharpener?
))) какая жесть... Хоть где то то что производится в России впереди на световые годы. Какой мусор по сравнению с обыденными Профилем, Вектором, не говоря уже про LXP S22.
Dang that looks like a very nice machine!!

Just missed today’s drop
Darn- I know there will be more!!
I was lucky enough to secure one of the first edition ones! I’m so excited for it to come in the mail.
👏🏽👏🏽🎊
Hey! Have you heard they just announced the new WE40 for $185!!!?
I would be curious to see your thoughts on that! (Just posted the review)
wow they made that one especially for you hmm
WTF why this video who the fuck is gonna pay 3k for a sharpener 350 is expensive enough!
Very good point
I learned on free hand stones and still use them for a variety of knives but I certainly enjoy the consistency and speed of these products
Also for some people who may have disabilities these still provide a way to get an edge when other factors may limit their ability to go freehand
Totally valid point you have though and appreciate your comment ✅
@@tacticaltavern You make good points too, and these things definitely make beautiful edges. 👍
How is this even a choice for the majority of us plebs? 3k? Absurd
I love the idea! I am sure you certainly could if you are crafty enough and have the time🙌🏽🔪
Would be a cool project- have you made one yourself yet?
Of course he hasn't built one, hes just sniffing his own farts.
$3000 is just too much.
Have you heard about their new sharpener? The WE40?? $185!!
wicked edge no thanks no even interested .
Tormek 😂
How do you like it?
You dont have to flip your blade after every stroke, lol.
That’s clearly his final pass with fine grit, which every fixed angle sharpening system recommends doing with alternating strokes. He clearly knows more than you do.
I agree you do not have to but on the finer grits I do just to make sure I have as small of a burr before stropping
(If I flipped it every time for a reprofile I would sharpen one knife per month!😂)
Good eye this was my final few passes to really hone up the edge!
$1099 vs $3000 clickbate?
Only yesterday I through that same Work Sharp in the bin.And today I started to use my Wicked Edge again.
