    The Soul Reaver games were never really designed with gameplay in mind, rather the game was just a vehicle to tell a story. Imagine a remake of Soul Reaver with the game mechanics of Devil May Cry but still retaining the excellent storytelling and voice acting. That would be a masterpiece.

      Hm... not sure if I fully agree, exploration is the focus not combat. Story and voice acting are stellar, yes.
      P.S.: I remeber a long time ago as I walked into techno rave basement they played Ariel's lines as intermission. Mind -- blown...

    This is amazing! I never thought about it but the uncharted-style climbing would suit this series so well especially since verticality has always been strong in these games

    Awesome work. Like many people suggested, have Raziel hold,or use his wings to glide. Also, I think he should be able to climb walls using his claws rather than using ledges. Also while absorbing spirits, he should stretxh his mouth cover.

      I agree, I miss the ‘chank-chank’ of grabbing onto walls and objects. The catching of the air under his ruined wings and the feeling of slight resistance when he phases through gates. But the combat here is impressive.

      What if he had different and faster climbing animation after absorbing Zephon? 🤔
      (Or has then removes a climbing stamina bar similar to Zelda Breath of the Wild?)
      It only seems like a shame to lose such cool work already put in. Those are how I'd preserve what's been done :)

      I also wish we can see a new game from the franchise soon, specially with the success the remasters are getting, but being honest a souls-like game won't fit this franchise. Legacy of Kain is closer to Zelda or Darksiders than Darksouls

    Gliding - Raziel uses torn wings and the glide looks more like "planned slow descent" rather than glide. This gliding looks more like Kain's.
    Combat - I've always thought about mishmashing both Devil May Cry combat in a way of Defiances ability combos (TK punch, blast, wolf form, glyph abuse and Reaver spell reimagining) and a Blood Omen2ish combat in a way where your accurate single hard blows will render opponent stunned and proper evasion/blocking/parrying is needed if you intend to ever best bosses.

    i think the climbing would work best if the points he climbs would be far away from each other, so he could use his wings as a boost
    and of course as a vampire he would do it pretty fast

      thank you! This is my first project, i learned allot about AI and combat system but parkour and motion mating for me was tought( im agree about that parkour is bit slow and still working on it.

    Видно, что работы еще полно. Однако то, что уже имеется выглядит очень перспективно. Боевая система выглядит плавной! Преодоление препядствий, думаю надо ускорить примерно в х1,5 -х2 раза. Прием с быстрым спуском с воздуха на врага, думаю сдедует разнообразить долонительными анимация или специальными атаками из списка закдинаний. Вообще, мы все помним колесо с заклинаниями. Было бы здорово, если б можно было стильно жанглировать бою не только мечем, но и закдинаниями, примерно как гаджеты у Человека -паука.

    The combat portion of this showcase is some of the most beautiful things I've seen, the Soul Reaver games always had that potential for more in depth combat, Defiance especially was so close to a DMC1-style game but it never quite got there. Seeing Raziel fight with such agility and showcasing different moves including aerial combat like it's DMC3 or a Platinum game is just exactly everything I wish I could've done in SR/Defiance. The traversal also looks fantastic even if I was never a fan of Uncharted style climbing, very fluid platforming and movement, beautiful stuff, all it's missing is some more block puzzles (just kidding lol).

    The combat looks absolutely amazing!! It feels really fluid and fast paced. I would love it if the platforming was a bit faster too, it looks slow.

      Thank you! Yes i many ppl say the same and i agree with that, parkour mechanic was difficult for me and it first prototype, i will adjust huge amount of things in the future. Just wanted to share some beta version in this year)

      How slow the original 3 were outside of combat, I think the slow shows off the amazing movements and attention to details. He reactions to the environments are top notch

    Everything looks amazing! If they bring Legacy of Kain back the puzzles should be traversal or puzzles instead of block pushing ones. The combat looked sick too! Well done!

    very cool, only gripe I have with this is that he seems to struggle to do things, he's the Soul Reaver! A spectral glimpse of a very powerful vampire, I feel like he should move more like an elegant animal effortlessly!

    Raziels moves look a lot like Death from Darksiders. That would be a great blend for Soul Reaver to make Raziel move with that feral creature style. It would add another dimension to his character making him seem a lot more horrifying.

    Imho wall climbing animations look a bit slow compared to normal floor movements and jumps from the ground. Anyways, amazing work. Loved the atmosphere of this game as a kid.

    That climbing system is unnecessary. Raziel can just climb like Spiderman does. The rest is fantastic though.

    This is really cool, but I have only two complaints.
    The first is gliding. He doesn't glide like Kain (simply floating in the air), but takes a hold of his tattered wings as he makes his jump, turning them into pseudo-parachutes. He doesn't have to grab them via his claws, as it could be explained there's still has muscular structure in the remains of his wings, clenching to curl and harden enough to make the wings arc. Re-examine the gliding animations in SR1, 2, and Defiance for reference.
    The second is the camera. For exploration, it's fine, but for combat it's kinda bad, especially since you're going for more of a DMC style combat (harkening to Defiance's combat. Good choice, btw). I highly suggest you make a camera system that, when locking on to an enemy, the camera focuses on the point between the locked on enemy and the player, rather than the player or the enemy itself. There's an Unreal project being made for a "Heartslike" game called Luminous Nights that more or less solved the issue. You could also do some visual research by playing Devil May Cry 3, 4, or 5.
    Also, and this isn't a complaint and more of a suggestion, but you should probably consider branching combos, and perhaps consider being able to use the reaver OR go hand-to-hand, maybe with a "style switch system" to swap between the two combat methods. IF there going to be environmental weapons (staffs, rocks, torches, blades, etc), perhaps consider having them override the current "style" when being used, where the weapon has its own movepool, and is disposable via throwing with the "TK" (Telekenesis) button.

      And im also plan to make him hold the wings. This will be a huge part of work with animations that i planning to do. Its first prototype as you can see, so ill make adjustments.

    J'aime beaucoup le concept de la reaver spectral idem pour le système de combat même si ce dernier doit être peaufiner. L'animation pour planer est également à retravaillée.
    En revanche je ne suis pas d'accord pour les phases de parkours, on se croirait dans un Assassins creed ou plus vieux encore; Prince of persia. Si c'est un remake fan-made du premier soul reaver j'attends avec impatience de revoir l'univers de Nosgoth refait avec le moteur UE5.

    The character model looks good. Animations look a bit floaty. Delayed even. Like his hands don't grab onto the ledge before he stops moving. Also, the song playing during the combat sounds like an instrumental cover of Marilyn Manson which is strange, but works. Strange to be working on a remake as the official game remaster is coming. You're likely to get a cease and desist letter, but if it's just for learning, I guess it won't matter.

      I don't think cease and desist letter will be coming soon. Remaster and remake are two separate things and as long as Crystal Dynamics is not planning to do the latter, this work is safe.

Its not working like this) Basicaly there is couple of fanmade projects about SR developed by years already, and they present themself as "fanmade remasters", and even they didnt get the letter. I didnt use anything from original game, so its nothing to worry about till i will say somewhere that i will destribute it ( which is not will happen ). So ill finish it)

      @@HerrCohonezI don’t know where you get that idea from. In US law, if someone else uses your trademark and you don’t sue them, you give up your right to it. This is why you see a company like Bethesda suing over a game named “Scrolls”. Using someone else’s IP is far worse. Guaranteed to get a case and desist as soon as they notice.

    I think they aren't final, because of some bugs like at the climbing animations where the arms going through the scarf instead the scarf with the arms.

    Well I like the combat but I personally don't see raziel needing to grab onto Ledges in order to scale a wall when he has 8 inch Talons that can dig into pure Stone.

    1 great reaver design.
    2 nice work on the souls
    3 the gliding though needs more restrictive movements
    4 and id say his dodges need to be abit more acrobatic/parkourish kinda like he was in defiance
    but this deffinately looks fangtastic

    Not sure on the process but it doesnt seem terribly in character.
    The first vault looks clumsy as hell which really doesn't fit, and he's not an assassins creed character, he doesnt jump between ledges, those talon fingers aren't for show, hes meant to claw his way up the walls.
    To say nothing of the gliding. I'll give the benefit of doubt and just accept thats placeholder.
    If theres gonna be an overhaul that in characters stuff more and this is just, the model and basic fightery, cool its looking good, but I hope if more is coming its a little more characters unique aspects driven in animation specifics.

    I think the movement has too much Assassin's Creed in it, for example Raziel doesn't climb by grabbing to ledges, he pierces stone with his claws that allows him to climb just like he does on the vines, I also think vault on the walls should be faster, more fluid and with less constrains like that sort of fall in the 2nd wall, Raziel is a revived Vampire, his speed and reflexes surpass the human limitations so jumping over the walls like that seems a bit clumsy for a former Vampire. Gliding needs a bit of work, it would work perfectly like it is for Kain due to how he glides due to his Telekinesis or something very similar, but nor for Raziel because he does it due to his wings. Phasing through the walls needs a specific movement, although I don't think any of the ones in the previous games were the correct one, the T pose in SR1 and 2 seemed like he was being dragged through it rather than him doing it, the one in Defiance looked comical like he was trying to sneak though the gate.
    This also leads into the next point, the wings look like part of his scarf instead of ruined wings, other than that the model is perfect to the point that I'm not even sure if I prefer the OG scarf tightly wrapped completely hiding his mouth or this new version that is more lose and can hide the mouth from some angles but in others you can see that Raziel is missing his lower jaw.
    The combat is absolutely amazing the only nitpick I can even think off is how in the finishers in front of the enemy Raziel aims the Reaver to their crotch which makes it a bit awkward, it should be more pointed upwards like he did to Moebius or his Sarafan self. Other than that simply perfect, love the aerial combos.
    Other than that simply amazing.
