The Crusaders are:
• Joe Sample, keyboards
• Wilton Felder, saxophone
• Eddie Davis, Trumpet
• David T. Walker, guitar
• James Christopher ‘Jimmy’ Earl, bass guitar
• Scott Peaker, drums
They play a compilation of their repertoire including the hit ‘Streetlife’

Saw them @ the city hall Newcastle England in 1984 apart from taking a 15-min break they played for 3- half hours amazing, Randy crawford came on for Street Life And Larry Carlton came on for a mini set as well , Musically one of the best Bands i have Ever seen. Great Grooves all Round .

Yes! That exactly what we called them these Katz are grooving at these jass festivals. My first was in 72, been going ever since. Back then you lite Joint and fell right in the sound lol.

That is Eddie Davis on Trumpet a real virtuoso. I had the pleasure to have met and jammed with him in Atlanta..he is in fine form here...I hope he is doing well. Good to see he hit the Big Time..
I saw Eddie Davis in Atlanta when I first moved there in the early 90s he sound like Freddie Hubbard plays a lot of runs with great range

When I first listened to 'Street Life' I was only 7... an older cousin of mine brought the album from Netherlands to México in 1980... I perfectly remember ... I was so happy ... few years later I learned the gemstone this band was... I loved Sampler, Henderson, Felder and Hooper... this last guy is still alive...

Saw them at the Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park (in Houston years ago) and they played for nearly 2½ hours non-stop and didn't seem to want to stop playing. Outstanding!!

My first time actually "seeing " this band .heard them very often though their work with Al Jarreau and other artists ..
This is top level sound and Jazz ❤
The woman singing street life was phenomenal. So much character and dynamical range and confidence. She had me at attention. Singers and bands like this are no longer found on the mainstream. Todays music sucks. This is great music.
Joe Schmoe The original vocalist on Street Life and the Crusaders is Randy Crawford and on the recordings. She was on her own in 1983 and occasionally showed up with the Crusaders in later years. By 1987 Reichi Guillory replaced her. You need to hear Randy Crawford. She has a smoother voice for Jazz where as Guillory is more for R & B

Saw Joe Sample at a small club in Tempe AZ must have been 1987 I think. just so happens that Bruce Hornsby was at a large venue that night. My friend went to see him. She asked me the next day how Sample was and I said great, of course. He was really great after Hornsby joined him for a couple songs. Fun time. The Crusaders were the band I cut my jazz teeth on.

A great unknown keyboardist of that time was Clyde Criner. Plenty of his tunes on UA-cam.
When did Ray Parker, Jr. perform with the Crusaders? I swear I've seen live performances where Ray was vamping on the guitar....one of the best session guitar players of all time in that era...and very talented, as writer/singer/whole package. I miss him.

I think Ray Parker’s weakness was as a solo guitarist on the level of the great players the Crusaders have had like Larry Carlton, Billy Rogers, Barry Finnerty and David T Walker here for example. I think he came up as a funk-rhythm guitarist and that’s alright.
