The song Soul Caravan went to #1 on Jazz Radio MRVR in 1976. with the great Les Davis. Met the band in 1975 in Englewood NJ . What a great group of individuals Kerry
Love the Crusaders! Wouldn't ya think Larry would have wanted to wear something darker to fit in a bit? Did he just come from the prom? BUT-He IS PLAYIN' HIS ASS OFF!
Damit Larry .. you play your ass off .. and you're wearing my old 70's suit! (that is the exact color I wore - so embarrassed ). ;). Well, I"m not here to "watch" Larry, only listen! Love that man.
"C-7 + 9"- my new user's name. Wilton Felder could have easily been crowned the immediate post-Coltrane hero, and precursor of Michael Brecker had he also emerged himself in Organic Acoustic Jazz. Needless to emphasize the fact that Wilton was a "bad-as-ass" saxophonist on soprano, alto and tenor saxophones. His altissimos were always on the bull's eyes - accurate and melody relevant. Michael Brecker, I am certain, was among the greats who admired Wilton Felder, a Funk and Organic Real Jazz virtuoso. Not unlike Wilton Felder before him, Michael made effective use of the "electric saxophone" - for effects. Eddie Harris and King Curtis had employed this tool for the same reason. They adored the use of the "electric sax". One needs to speak of Joe Sample and George Duke as being in the same majestic class as "Chick" Correa and Herbie Hancock. RIP: WF, JS, Wayne Henderson + GD
I'm sorry for Cole. That is a heartbreaking story. I love St. Judes because they do so much for the victims. I wish we had a way to stop cancer. It's unfair. I love human beings.
@@mingamonk Look up the live version of Xanadu sung by Olivia Newton-John to see Mr Popwell and hear his amazing bass work. For a while he was part of Ms ONJ's touring band along with Carlis Vega on drums.
I have been following these guys for 40 years definitely one of the best jazz bands of all time
Bass Player Robert Popwell is amazing 👍👍🏿👍🏾
I loved watching this 45 y.o. video of the Crusaders; featuring my favorite musician, Larry Carlton.
I'm so grateful for all I've been able to learn from these guys over the years.

Killing. It. A MIC drop performance if there ever was one. Too rich, too mindblowing!
Once you get past the flawless musicianship, you start to appreciate the epic powder blue suit.
Larry Carlton does have a bit of Ben Stiller going for him here. Of course, Ben Stiller didn't play with both the Crusaders and Steely Dan.

That was one of the most tasteful guitar solos I've ever heard
Chris Boyd : yes i agree with you

That's because it was done by LC.
One of the greatest performances of all time
Legendary. One of the greatest bands of all time in my book.
Got to see them live one time. Still high 20 years later. Amazing. Soooooo tight
I have been listening to their discography this year. You are absolutely right.
Flawless retro , impeccable playing ,one for the fashion police
Stix Hooper looks like he enjoys playing drums more than any drummer I've ever seen. If I could play like that I'd be smiling too!
With Carlton and Popwell!!!Crusaders at their very best!! Thx for posting!!
Killin' solo, Joe!
Love that tenor sound, WF!
LC awesome notes and tone!
Supergroove
What a band...
I saw him play with the Crusaders in Manchester UK the whole band is on another level....
These guys were awesome especially with Larry Carlton

And he played a mean bass, too!
Wilton was Jesus on Sax, Coltrane was God
Larry with hair!....Great playing.....early seventies Crusaders. Suit looked like it came off an Ice Cream Truck.....
Got to respect whatever he's wearing playing with the other cool dudes
THANKS FOR THIS POST, ❤ I am a Crusaders fan from way back Dobie❤ revisted May 5 2024

These guys are the real deal. They are legends.
WHAT A BAND
I like that wave from Larry 'I got this'. Saxaphone player looks like business as usual dont get in my way.
You really miss the horn combo of sax and trombone. Wayne Henderson had left the band just prior to this.
The Drummer and Bass player are funky and cookin!
yeah no shit.. . that bass!
Pops Popswell on bass, Stix Hooper on drums. Fantastic!
Pops nailed it...
First video I've ever seen of Mr Popwell

Outstanding band
Quel groupe extra Larry était chevelu
Houston, tx where else
His rhythm section is killer.
And another good one.... love The Crusaders :)
Crusaders were great throughout the 70's!
great!!
Montreux '76..
Fantastic !
Crusaders met in grade school!!!
They made their best and commercial mega success without Larry Carlton. Street life
cooking..
カールトン。クルセイダーズだ。🙄
My only complaint here is too much tin, and not enough skin on the drums.
Awesome playing otherwise.
I dont see wayne henderson
Why is Carlton tone on overdrive thru out.. They are playing Funk! Clean it up ..
he pulled it together for the solo :-) yeah, coked out hit the fuzz pedal by accident on the rhy? what the hell...
Not yo gramma's funk.
CHB: LC doesn’t change his amp settings for the lead, he’s just playing single notes rather than partial chords so it sounds cleaner.
Wilton Felder is the Second Coming of Coltrane
Wilton is Jesus on Sax period.
