In this video I’ll unbox and give you my initial impressions of the new 2024 HP Chromebook 14. This is from the 14a-nf range (I believe globally there are variations which could include for example: 14a-nf0001, 14a-nf0002 (like I have here), 14a-nf0003, 14a-nf0004, 14a-nf0005, 14a-nf0006, 14a-nf0007, 14a-nf0008, 14a-nf0009 etc
The exact model I have here is a UK spec: 14a-nf0002sa / 9Z6X9EA It features the Intel N100 processor, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and an HD non-touch display. The colour is called Glacier silver
In the UK and globally as I explain you need to check for the varying specs. For example in the UK we also have:
14a-nf0002na / A20JBEA#ABU - I believe this only differs to the version I have by its colour. Confusingly the listing on HP’s website calls it ‘Glacier silver’ in one place (which would be the same as my one), but grey in another, it certainly looks darker.
14a-nf0003na / A20JCEA#ABU - differs to the above in that it has 8GB RAM, a FHD non-touch display. Same comment on the colour as above.

UPDATE (SEPTEMBER 2024) - Google have extended the date up until which this Chromebook will receive ChromeOS updates from June 2033 (that I mention in the video) by 2 years to June 2035(!) Good news!

Can we all agree that these days a 'chromebook plus' is a sensible minimum spec? Anything less will lead to disappointment.
I know where you're coming from, and Chromebook Plus can be a safer recommendation, but I disagree with anything else leading to disappointment when there are 'regular' Chromebooks like this out there - ua-cam.com/video/nc6RMm7Z9JQ/v-deo.html
@andrewcbartlett weirdly my new .Realme 50 phone has better specs than most Chrome books. I paid R2000 for it in Cape Town. That's about U$ 100. It has 8 gig Rom and 128 gig Ram and Android 14
@davidrumbelow quite normal, ChromeOS doesn't need too much to run. Are you in the market for a new Chromebook?

What do you use to create your work roosters? From the video though you can probably tell this falls short of perfect.
I'm a senior not techy I have an old chromebook but can you please recommend a good basic chromebook that has long time out for updates. I don't play games but do sell some stuff on esty and like to print out recipes which my current chromebook will no longer send anythink to my printer. Thank you.

That was with your Epson printer I believe and Chromebook. In terms of a new Chromebook - if it's in budget I think a 'Chromebook Plus' would be a good idea to consider (you know the hardware specs will be decent). Hi, if you're happy ChromeOS can support the software you need (if you plan to use Microsoft Office maybe check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/L8jScBBY73A/v-deo.html) I'd recommend you look for a 'Chromebook Plus' branded Chromebook. This guarantees some higher hardware specs that also in turn enable some additional software features. I remember getting one of these back in 2020 with the old HP Stream design and it was an awful machine. It looks like they've improved it a ton from the grey awful plastic mess that was the 2020 model.
If you can handle a blast from the past in terms of an older video from the channel, this was a 2020 HP 14a Chromebook - ua-cam.com/video/6m8lWYp08gY/v-deo.html - same you're thinking of(?) Not sure that's the design you mention though, and it wasn't terrible by any means, the build if anything was a bit more solid and that particular one had a FHD IPS display.
@@MergeDroid No, this wasn't it. This is quite nice compared actually. It was a small grey little thing with a TFT panel. Terrible but got me into chrome OS 😂

Again, if you can handle an older video from the channel: ua-cam.com/video/xmD9z9NYY-8/v-deo.html I was quite fond of this, a real 'beater' for the right price. Basic, did it's job and felt more solid, being smaller probably helped.
@@MergeDroid It was incredibly similar, a 14 inch model and all grey. I genuinely like HP machines but that just wasn't it.
I think I'm glad it wasn't either of those 😎 As questionable as the hardware was it's good to know the OS still stood out 👍
Can this Chromebook support an external monitor?

@techlonizerGTX yes, this version with the Intel N100 processor or you may also see the N200. There are older 14 / 14a models too, but of course they will have an older processor. Is there a specific one you're considering or are you just looking for a new Chromebook in general?
