  • As you may know we've been shopping for a truck camper. Come along with us on one of our shopping trips to Southland RV in Norcross, GA. There aren't a ton of dealers close-by that have a wide selection but they do. Watch as we tour a Bigfoot, Cirrus and Lance to see our reactions to each one. Also, stay tuned for a future video to reveal what we decide on. It may or may not be one of these models ;-) #southlandrv #runawayroses #truckcamper

    I own a Northstar Arrow U 8.5 and absolutely love it. I wanted to keep it lighter so i could haul it with a Ram 3500 SRW diesel 4x4.
    Not much bling but very well thought out and well built. I could have purchased any truck camper and I also liked the Bigfoots, Nothern Lites, and technology of the Cirrus. I went with Northstar because of their customer service reputation and they were willing to customize my requests. I tweaked it quite a bit. NS is a family owned company that has been in business since the 60's. I've travelled extensively in it for the past 2 years and it has performed flawlessly. It's worked well in very hot and very cold weather. I'd recommend a tour of their factory in Cedar Falls, Iowa. There are some things I like better in some of the other campers but as a whole I picked the perfect camper for my needs. My husband and I travel about 5 months per year living in it so it gets a ton of use. If you like to boondock...then really look hard at the Northstars.
    Whatever you choose, I'd highly recommend an extra fantastic fan....we have 2 in our living area and also a heki skylight. The extra fan is awesome. Both are covered so we can leave them open no matter what the weather. I'd also invest is a good solar system and a beefed up battery system. We have 2 Lifeline 6 volt AGM's that do the trick for our style of camping. We have a nice portable generator that we don't even bring along. Never used it. We do have a Jackery Lithium portable power pack that tops us off if we need extra juice. It's proven to be really handy so we have an electrical outlet wherever we need it...tools, fan by the campfire, outdoor office, etc. We also really like the cassette toilet. Some folks don't. Pros and cons. I like keeping things simple with minimal maintenence and worries. We maintain it well and check the seals at least 2 times a year. It's close quarters but laid out so well that we are comfortable...my husband is 6'2. If you are going with a dually then you will have more options....that's a great way to go if you want/need more space and don't mind giving up some mobility. I'd still think long and hard before slides though....the space is tempting but there are some real cons as well. All depends on your style of camping.
    Best of luck and keep us in the loop! Always fun to see the latest truck camper offerings.

    Did they have a Cirrus 920.The one you were in I think was an 820. The 920 has a larger fridge pull out pantry and some more storage.The 920 is for long bed trucks and the 820 is for shortbeds.I'm also shopping Like the Northernlite but a little out of my price range.Narrowed down to Cirrus 920 and Northstar Igloo 9.5.Looked at Lance and read alot of owner reviews and scratched off list.Northstar has great customer support from what I read.You also may want to go to Truck Camper Magazine and Truck CamperAdventure web magazines they are the top on truck camper research help and comparisons and reviews.Good Luck.

    I bought a 2019, 975 Lance. I had lots of problems with it. Holes in the bottom covering Thermostat wired incorrectly, Cable for the DVD to TV was bad so they had to pull the camper apart to re-wire, Fantastic fan leaked, Front hatch over bed leaked, all the compartment latches were out of adjustment, back door latch needed adjustment, Dump valves leak, rear bumper latches were out of adjustment. The dealer fixed all the problems after 5 trips back and forth from home. Lance dropped the ball on quality control and the dealer totally failed with Delivery. Oh yeah, if you want to use bathroom you will have to open the slide. Bath door wont open with slide in and the slide opens to the street side. Would I recommend Lance? Yes but check it from top to bottom before purchasing.

      @Lawrence wow it sounds like you had some issues with your Lance. We finally made a decision and decided to go with a used one. My first camper was a new Lance back in 1992. Miserable workmanship with many issues, but I sacrificed and used it for 26 years. When it was time to replace it, and after extensive research, I chose the 2018 Bigfoot 25C10.4. Exceptional quality, and floorplan. I have absolutely no regrets with my purchase. And one and a half years later, nothing has needed warranty work.

    Why not look at the arctic fox truck campers? I own one and love it. Been to that dealership and they sell the brand. One thing to notice how the entry into the cab over is. I was so disappointed with the Bigfoot bed head height.

      @William Mallonee we just posted some videos of our Arctic Fox tours. We do love them but for some reason we are just partial to the fiberglass shell campers. Love my Northern Lite 10-2. I looked at all the ones you mentioned. There is a large Lance dealer 25 miles from me, but I still drove 200 miles to get my 10-2. Great fiberglass construction, And No slides! There are 2 types of slides, those that will break and those that will leak. I looked at Cirrus, but IMHO to much plastic and just a little to sterile looking for me. Bigfoot very nice but they are like 6" narrower and 6" is a big deal in TC's.
    Good luck and have fun shopping!

    I could be interested in the Bigfoot trailer should you decide to move to something different. Appreciate the tour of the truck campers (you referred to them as trailers two or three times early in the video, LOL), I am considering a truck camper but am somewhat limited in capacity on my Ram 2500 (wished it was a 3500 SRW).

    • @RunawayRoses
      @RunawayRoses  4 роки тому

      @CharlesinGA yes we do refer to them as trailers occasionally, obviously that was because we are so used to talking about our Bigfoot, lol. Speaking of that, thank you for buying our Bigfoot, we really hope that you enjoy it as much as we did, we are definitely going to miss it! :-( It just didn't make any sense to have two campers sitting around. Seriously though, selling it was a very difficult decision for us and one that we did not go into lightly. For overall design and function in such a small space, I think I'd have to give it to the Bigfoot, but the Cirrus came in right behind, love those windows that open wide to let air in, looked nice and airy like the Bigfoot, too. Whatever you choose, you may want to check out these nifty sheets that will make bed-making/ laundry much easier - have you heard of Quickzipsheets.com? All the best, guys - and good luck!! ~💜

    • @RunawayRoses
      @RunawayRoses  5 років тому +1

      @Stacey Forrest, sorry for just responding but we've been consumed with the camper purchase trying to make it happen :-) We ended up with a used Northern Lite and the company that makes them was actually started by a former employee of Bigfoot so they are so similar. We got a used one so we've got a lot of work to do. We may or may not have in Virginia, we'll see how it goes. As for those sheets, we'll definitely have to check those out. I saw Less Junk More Journey had used some called Beddy's (sp.) and checked into them but they were pretty expensive even with their discount. I'll have to check out the ones you recommended. Thanks! ~Carla

    my 2 cents. bought a new lance truck camper in october 2018. two months later, crazy downpour rain, three leaks: bathroom vent, kitchennette vent, bedroom vent. drove the same day to dealer. he fixed it and swore no more leaks. one month later, crazy downpour. the three previous leaks showed up and water running down the wall of the bedroom. drove it to the dealer, didnt ask permission, dumped it on his lot, demanded my 35k back, was told, "this isn't how it works". i said, "bull sh*t". drove to see the ceo in lancaster, california, and two weeks later i had a check. lance rv's and all rv's suck. by the way, getting money back is rare. so don't count on it. i got lucky.

    Had my fully loaded bigfoot 10.5 for 14 years .added some upgraded features. We still like it . Minimum repairs. No leaks .Camped at -35F to 90F. Get a diesel dually with 4x4 capability to put it on .10 years later .You will still be happy.Pay once and smile as you pass the repair places. You won't need them .I added 2 75 watt solar panels 2 ,6 volt wet batteries running parallel 1750 inverter automatic switch over. Had the wet bath upgraded to a dry bath. Upgraded steps, led lights .It came with the generator. 2 twenty pound propane tanks From Death Valley to Northern BC down to the east coast. It's all been good .With only one fiat tire .Do your maintenance do your checks. Baby your rig. One more point.I use Amsoil in all the fluids except the allison transmission..
    Change the fluids sooner than later. You will not be sorry .

      Yes, I think at some point in the video we confirmed the model number by looking in the manual, that is why he was able to correct it at the end. Sorry it was misleading at first. We do love the Bigfoots, so well made! ~Carla

    Please DO NOT buy a Lance. Trash. Pure Trash. The warranty is about as valuable as a single sheet of used toilet paper.

      @Robbie Robinson, we don't know much about them but after walking through the Lance as opposed to the fiberglass Bigfoot or Northern Lite, we decided on a Northern Lite and hope that it is a good fit for us. Thanks for watching! ~Carla

      If you don’t like it, then please don’t watch it. We do what we want to do, it’s our channel. We aren’t professionals, we’re just a couple who like to have fun and camp in our truck camper. Go somewhere else if you’re looking for something different. But thanks for watching, it helps our revenue 😁🥳
