    Great video. It pays to research what you’re buying and especially something you’re going to be living in. Looks like it suits your needs.
    In my case the truck I bought was being sold as a package deal including a camper. A Lance 992 with 2 slide outs. But the type of camping we are planning on doing it will suit us. The extra room with the slide outs is nice although the camper is heavy. 4500 lbs. I did some research on different brands and liked the northern lite made in Canada. But it has no slide outs. After having the slide outs I kind of like them. I was curious about your hot water heating system so I’m glad you covered that. I’ve got a lot to learn we only got the camper last year and only had it out twice before winter. I enjoy watching your travels. There’s some beautiful country side in the USA. Safe travels.

    • @Stonyboot
      @Stonyboot  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching and commenting! It sounds like you got a great package deal! I looked and looked when we were buying and never found anything that worked for us. There are many days we wish we had slides, we would love some extra space. However, there are also many days we are happy to have a simpler setup. It's all about trade-offs. I agree that Northern Lite is really high quality and I love the clam shell design. When I compared features, size and price, it just didn't tick all the boxes. If I had a magic wand, I'd make the perfect camper for myself!

I have been thinking about a small trailer, or class B. Class B’s are now over priced, a small trailer grand design imagine 17MKE for example. I think Cirrus builds the best looking truck campers, inside and out. And I also like the Alde system, and the stargazer window is my favorite item. I hope it doesn't leak over time. I also just wish Cirrus would build their campers like Northern Lite and Bigfoot truck campers. Their two piece fiberglass molds are superior to the way all other truck campers are built. And lastly, I wish Cirrus had more solar, more lithium battery options, an inverter, and a more powerful pre-wired way to charge their camper batteries off of the trucks second alternator. A quieter generator would be nice, too. Other than those improvements, I love the Cirrus!

    • @Stonyboot

    Really enjoy viewing your videos. Plenty of great content. No time to binge watch all of them - yet. Soon!
    We take ours off truck every chance when staying 4 days or more & lower to ground storing bike rack & ladder underneath.
    There's a small 'shelf' above door where we keep our spices held in place with a spring curtain rod - similar to what we use in refrigerator. Both work well.
    Love skylight to stargaze! Did watch a wind gust blow from no where and snap it off! Oops. Beware. Nu-camp sent us replacement to Denver dealer. ($500!)

    • @Stonyboot
      @Stonyboot  3 роки тому

      We have a Draw-Tite 65063 Front Mount Receiver Hitch. It mounts in a hidden fashion and has been great. It was a little challenging to install on our truck due to limited space to put my hands.
      The front carrier is just an old steel rack i found on craigslist years ago. We mostly use it for wood and misc stuff. I never did cover it in a video, but I could probably go over it quickly someday. I'll add it to my list of videos to make!

      Makes me wish we could get the Land Rover pickups sold in Australia only. They're kinda like flatbeds and you can get 2 or 4 doors. The only downside is they come with a turbodiesel 5 cylinder instead of a Rover V8. Land Rover revived the Defender and put it back into production so maybe that could be a possibility. I wish they would offer a pickup configuration as an option.

    Very nice rig and great job describing it. A lot of folks would not be able to handle the cost of that truck and the camper combined. I suppose if it were your home on wheels the cost, at least for you guys, is justified. Thanks for making such a great video. I will subscribe to your channel.

    Another great vid! I am slowly getting convinced that the NuCamp is what I would like. Love, love, love that stargazer window. I'm not sure any other campers have it.
    If you don't mind my asking - what is your truck payload capacity, and what is the general weight of your camper when loaded? It's a question that bugs me a lot, as I do want to get the right truck and camper matched.
    And those shots of the scenery are precisely why I want to get out into the wild! Keep the vids coming guys! Thanks!

      Great questions. Our GVWR is 14,000 lbs and we are at 13900-14100 depending on how much water we carry. We can go lighter if we need to. As Truck Camper Magazine outlines in their excellent articles, you do want to match your truck/camper properly. Our truck has a payload capacity of about 5,000 lbs, (5,250 I think). We use all of that. Keep in mind, we have the bikes, bike rack, and lots of equipment. We have our whole life in here. The Cirrus campers are a little heavier than some of the similar campers. Much of that weight (I think) comes from the wood cabinets and and overall building materials. We bought the biggest, heaviest payload truck we could so we wouldn't have a payload issue in the future. We also love having a dually! If we had time, we could have ordered a dually truck with a gas engine and that would have afforded us some additional payload capacity. Same with having a Crew Cab truck, that adds a lot of weight. Always check the GVWR listed on the truck.
      Let me know if you have other questions, its a big topic and hard to fully explain in a comment. TCM has great resources on their site for matching trucks/campers.

      @@Stonyboot Thanks a bunch for the reply, and sorry for taking so long to respond. We've been going through quite a weather trip here in Houston of late as you might have heard.
      Yes, this is a topic that needs it's own website I think, and you're right, TCM is a great place for such knowledge. I have recently signed on and am trying to catch up on truck camper news and happenings. It seems like y'all made a great choice with the dually! You would need it for that camper alright. I know I won't be carrying heavy toys (no bike plans yet, and definitely no ski/boat equipment, and nothing towed). Besides, I'm not one who tends to overpack. For these reasons, I have been considering a RAM 2500 (4010 lb. payload 6.4L HEMI V8) and favoring the NuCamp 720 and maybe even the 820 models. The heavier 2021 Cirrus 820 weighs 3253 lbs (wet, with batteries included). This looks like a pretty good combo to me. I don't plan to live in it full time (let me add, 'yet'!) The dually of course, has that solid structure appeal, and I'm sure that's why you guys like it. (Any other reasons why you like your dually?) I hadn't even considered the additional weight of the crew cab, always thinking that it would be a storage area when only 2 travelled, but you're right, I might not need it.
      There's so much to consider, and once again I am thankful for folks like you who make this info readily available. Keep those vids coming! Happy trails!

    Hi Guys, Been following your adventures for a while now; Jill and I love what you're doing. We are planning similar in the UK, but on a smaller scale of course - our pickups are a bit smaller than yours! I have a couple of questions about your Alde system: How much gas does it typically use in a day in cold weather (and what size are your gas bottles)? Do you have convectors (how many and where are they located) or under floor heating? Do you have the Alde 'Flow' unit to enable continuous hot water flow, for use when showering for example? Stay safe and keep posting the videos. Best wishes from the UK :)

    • @Stonyboot
      @Stonyboot  3 роки тому

      Hi! Thanks for leaving a comment :) We are also planning a trip through the UK and mainland Europe in the future!!!
      We have 2 20lb propane tanks (about 4.6 gallons each). With daytime temps in the 40s and night time in the 20s, we get about 2-3 days on propane. In the warmer weather, we get 5-20 days. That includes cooking, hot water and heat.
      We don’t have the Alde Flow since we never have needed it. However, it would be great when we are at campgrounds with unlimited water :)
      We have many convectors along the walls, one in the shower/bathroom, under the floor and surrounding the bed area. There are 8-10 convectors around the camper.

We are not a fan of generators, they tend to ruin the peace and quiet for everyone, but the Honda is one of the quietest. In our RV we have 300 amps of lithium batteries and can run everything for several days (likely even more if somewhere you can top up with solar). Does this model come with lithium? Last, are you in anyway sponsored by Cirrus? Just helps to know.

However, we now use the microwave, hair dryer and AC more often when power permits. It’s been really nice having the extra juice.

      It is a 4 season camper. Fully enclosed and heated. If your primary use will be winter camping, a camper like Northern Lite or Bigfoot might be a better option. If you plan on mostly warm weather camping with the occasional winter trip, a cirrus works well. Since it’s aluminum framed, you will have more condensation than a fiberglass or wooden camper. Another great option, with a Truma heating system is Kingstar. They have excellent build quality and insulation.
