I have a very very anxious aunt who has panic attacks and worries and is always forcing negative catastrophic beliefs and fears onto me. It does not matter what i say or do- she believes she is right and always has a opinion that now really is triggering anxiety in me to the point where i avoid her and it makes her call and hang up and takes an unhealthy behavior. She knows i am choosing to move away and just has ramped it up and doesnt want me to move and believes i am irresponsible even though i am a college grad getting her masters and manage money well. I have realized alot of my choices after divorce i listened to her and others and regret all of those decisions and have had depression because i didnt listen to myself. She tells me i isolate too much and i dont.
How to handle people we love but her anxiety and ocd now feels like its a virus that i feel around here. I try to stay neutral but she always turns the conversation onto my life and makes negative assumptions. The other thing that i have noticed is that she is not happy for me when i have good news.

Very good insight and observations. It can be very hard to navigate these interpersonal dynamics with loved ones, as you are trying to respect them but also protect your peace and set boundaries. It is much easier to set and maintain healthy boundaries with loved ones when you are not in immediate proximity to them/under the same roof. Oftentimes, if they do feel you setting boundaries, it can trigger fear of abandonment/loss and they may act out more. Best you can do is be a broken record of loving but assertive communication and be strict and intentional about how much time to allocate to holding space for others vs protecting time for yourself.

Sometimes all we can do is hold space for others with unconditional positive regard. We cannot change others, we can only control our actions. Wishing the best sir.

Thank you! I put a lot of time and thought into this one. I want to do more like this. I have been doing mostly interviews lately, but want more of a 50/50 mix this year. I am a little familiar with Internal Family Systems Therapy. I am no expert, but could do a general informational video on it if you like.
