"I'm ready for steak! Let's do it!" Good times with the family. I own a 2006, it's been an awesome off-road machine and all-round reliable car. 125,000 miles so far.
Ive got a dodge nitro which is a similar class vehicle. It's really good to see what this class of rig can do. Watching videos is not the same as doing but it helps to give you something to think about when out camping/off road.
I have a 2004 Honda Pilot that I'm thinking of rigging out for off-roading. Any first mods you would recommend? Also what did you use to paint you wheels?
Cameron Watkins start with a lift and bigger tires. I have an MDX that I am modding for off-road use. The rest is how much you are willing to spend for your hobby. There are many things that you could end up doing.
So which suv is better for off road rav4 or Pilot? I own both but my rav is only a fwd. the Pilot is definitely better for road trips, better seats and softer ride. Rav4 is definitely faster but squarely.
Hello from Russia. Nise video. I think main problem of this Rav4 is (how we use to talk in Russia) is "a gasket between wheel drive and driver's seat| ))) And of course tyres and suspension movement are different. Nice Video anyway!!!
Nice to see the video. Always on the lookout for you to upload 😀 I have tried to read at many places but could not get a convincing answer. Could you tell with the VTM-4 lock, is it also locks the centre diff and then uses clutch packs at the rear, OR is it just rear clutch packs?
The Honda VTM-4 uses electromagnetic clutches to lock the rear axles when engaged. This behaves like a rear locker. Most AWD systems behave like open diffs in the front and rear.
Hey! I've been watching your videos for a while now, and I've got a 2007 honda pilot as well! I'd love to begin doing some offroading with it, what kinds of tips could you provide me? I'm planning on buying some new tires soon, and probably a wider throttle body+cold air intake. Thanks!
Tires must be first priority.then you can lift about 2 inch ( i highly recommend speak with offroad expert for this) and change Bumpers and the last one is snorkel .
My favorite Low beams are (JDM ASTAR T1 H11 H8 H16 All-in-One Upgrade Vision White LED Headlight Bulbs/Fog Light Bulbs) I think I am just running cheap high beams.
HondaPilotOverland awesome thanks, I’ve got some cheap led lights in my 07 Pilot they work nice but not the right color temp. Keep up the great work man!!!
I might be able to at some point. In the meantime check out my build thread for the details. www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/2007-honda-pilot-off-road-build.20884/
they are not exactly the same. I own both a 1st Gen and a 2nd Gen. I can lock the 1st Get, but not the second. The Second has a serviceable "transfer case" (it has its own oil) while he first does not.
My Pilot is the 1.5 gen. It has the separate transfer case oil. They both share the vtm-4 system. I would recommend doing some research to find out the differences.

You should tell your brother that the RAV has a button to lock the AWD system, it’ll send the same amount of power to all 4 wheels
Actually it will split it 50% front and 50% rear, but yes much better than AWD.
Turn off the traction control and lock the AWD

1st mod for offroading is always tires. The rest is debatable.

The Pilots AWD system is superior in my opinion. It can lock up the clutches in the rear sending power to both rear wheels.

The new Rav4 adventure rock.
Okay... it's time for another video..
What year is your pilot? And how much does it tow?
Have you had any issues with the bigger tire size going with the DuraTracs?
Nice to see the video. Always on the lookout for you to upload 😀

Sorry for the lack of videos. The Pilot does not have a center diff, only a rear.
The pilot drive did put it in 1st gear right? Not just automatic?
If I need to lock VTM4 then I normally put it in first
Does a pilot have recovery points?
How different is the AWD/ 4x4 in the 2016 pilot does it have the lock like the older ones ?
The vtm-4 system is improved in the newer vehicles.
Ok is there a way to lock the dif
@@MrAnd84 I don't have any experience with them, but I believe they have modes that change the way the diff reacts.
You still running the Pilot. If so, what have you done to it?
Yes we are. Here is our build thread

Do you have the suspension of your vehicle raised? Juan from Chile.
yes www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/2007-honda-pilot-off-road-build.20884/
Is y’alls pilot lifted and if so how did you do it and how much!

What’s the electrofumatic rear locking diff and how’d you get it?

Oh and I forgot to say LOL :)
@@GotterAdventure I suppose Subaru AWD is the only true full time AWD system? So the Pilot has a big advantage over the other makes with VTM-4
HondaPilotOverland oh lmao I’m dumb. Thanks. Love the videos. I’m starting work on my 06 pilot because of your forum. It really helps.
Mike R Subaru is not the only full time AWD

Can you make a video on your front skid plate? I’m trying to find one but can’t find anything
I might be able to at some point. In the meantime check out my build thread for the details. www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/2007-honda-pilot-off-road-build.20884/
Yes please make a video about that. I just bought a lift and higher tires for my pilot and I want a skid plate as well
Isn't the Honda pilot in a different class?
I believe so :)
I wonder if the second gen Pilot has the same AWD system as the first gen. Anyone know?

I have a 2004 EXL and a 2014 EXL. Both have been great vehicles!
Rav4 is far more capable but maybe the driver didn't use the proper settings.
Very possible, more testing is needed :) Another video is necessary
Cant find a lift kit for a 2015 pilot 4wd
The Rav needs a lift kit.
He wants to buy one in the future!
Le falta conductor a la rav 4 para exprimir sus cualidades!!
That is true! It was my brother in law...
RAV4 awd is sad
It is a bit sad, but better than nothing:)
RAV4 only have stock tire compare to pilot all terrain tire👎🏻
We both have all terrain tires in this video.
Lol
