My name is Aaron Gotter and I love adventure! From my youth to adulthood, I have always made it a priority to get out and explore. Now that I am a father of 3 boys I am doing my best to be an inspiration to them. I created my Gotter Adventure channel to provide family adventure entertainment and education.

Man, that course looks brutal! Everyone is getting stuck. I love the music though. Who does that song?
¡Gracias!
i wanged to see more of Pilot in action
Stay tuned for the next couple videos. A ton more pilot action.
I've been thinking about taking my '20 Ridgeline out there. Stock except for some good AT tires. What trails and route was this filmed on? Would love to know what trails I'm capable of clearing before I go.
I have found that trail difficulty can vary a lot from time to time. A skid plate is always a safe call around rocks. If you join the AWD festival OCT 18-20 we can help keep you safe. Tickets sold here campingrandy.com/
I watch these videos to get my tools ready before I head out..... you told me zero sizes. Hopefully your newer videos fixed that. I know more about your trips than I do about the repair..... And then you skipped like every aspect of putting it together and everything this is not a thermostat replacement video, this is a vlog
As you have noted my repair videos are vlog style. I am just a father of 5 trying to share some tips. I am not able to dedicate the time necessary to make videos that are as details as you are requesting.
This is awesome man. I love that you brought the animals.
They are a blast!
Hey man i saw you went to Santee river onetime. I have a Pilot and im also in SC. I live in Florence, what city are you in?
We are in Summerville, but we visit Florence from time to time. Do you know of any cool trails or destinations? You can PM me on instagram.
I'm doing this same project right now I made the huge mistake of forgetting to line up the timing 😔 any advice to fix that? Also, i don't think i had any timing covers? 2007 Honda Pilot.
I always triple check my timing marks so You may be in uncharted waters for me. Do you reassemble and try to turn it over?
So we have a AWD and exact same hose is leaking, any idea if rubber hose can be cut and joined by another rubber hose or this whole line needs to be replaced? Won't be dropping sub-frame so any tips you can share? Thx
My hose was leaking at the crimps so replacing the rubber hose wasn't an option. It is tight near the steering pump without dropping the subframe. Have you found any repair videos that do it without dropping the subframe?
Buy a drill doctor
Seems like a good tip!
I'm surprised more people don't wheel the Pilot. Great to see you taking the family out for some fun!
Other than really steep trails and high altitude climbing it has always impressed me!
I have a 2006 Honda pilot. She is near 400000 miles on her. I to intend on riding this beast forever. My car just hit the overheating point. I am also looking at replacing 02 censer and my cats. I have a minor leak and just know it is because I cracked a seal trying to replace my oil pan. I am completely going into this on my own. So I have learned a few things. I love my pilot and wish you the best on your vehicle.
I have learned a lot from failure as well!
Aren’t there gators in those waters?!
Gators and dangerous snakes are the most obvious dangers. Not safe for young children. Many people this days have grown up with a false sense of security with a mentality that nothing can go wrong. At least one person should be carrying a machete and a firearm. Small dogs out there are a bad idea.
Yes, LOL
So what exactly is your tire size and rim
Nvm saw it when I zoomed in what’s the price on these and where did you get them
You can by the tires and wheels on my Amazon store www.amazon.com/shop/hondapilotoverland
Question…. Would you be able to make extra brackets & plates for a subframe like how you did yours? I’m guessing a set a 4? I would be more than happy to send money for them and cover shipping. Unfortunately nobody in the Cincinnati area wants to fabricate such items.
I think the primary issue is liability. If you took a drawing with measurements in I am sure a shop could fabricate the brackets for you. If you watch the video I had a heck of a time getting the subframe bolts loose. If you Pilot isn't driving you may want to start with those, then take measurements, then have the brackets built.

Love that rack setup u have. Too bad they’re not available anymore
I wasn't aware of that! bummer
Did flat out resolve the clunking at high speeds?
Not really, I think I have gotten used to it. They do well at low speed and are really adjustable. The high speed clunk was the main issue I experienced. They handle better than stock too.
Pilot is very soft and comfortable car
Yes!
Where r u located?
PM me on Instagram
The title said Honda Poilt are Terrible off Road maybe wanna change the title
Irony
You all should have a TV show called Welcome Back Gotter.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
LOL
Yea, I lift mine to do the oil. I can't work under there without a lift.
Good call!
The rough idle is valve adjustment
I have adjusted the valves several times. I think mine might be a small intake leak due to thermal gaskets on my intake runners. Though it might not be. Many high mileage Pilots seem to develop the same cold idle issue. Many are not solved by adjusting the valves.
Hi Aaron fellow 1st gen owner here do you have a video of how you hooked up your rad fan? Recently exp some overheating issues while out in the desert on the dunes
My auxiliary fan is to keep the transmission cool. If the radiator and condenser fan aren’t keeping the coolant temperatures stable you may have a thermostat issue or a head gasket leak.
Ok sooooooo, i have an 07 pilot and i think actually what's happening is the computer wont give this car all the throttle until a certain wheel speed is reached. I experience this with a computer hooked up monitoring the throttle plate. It doesn't open all the way when you tell it to, or progressively opens as speed increases
Well if that is the case it is lame lol
I still think gearing is to blame on the steep high elevation trails though
What size lift are you running
It is hard to say. Probably 3-3.5” I would check out HRGs 3” lif if you are interested in a lift
does yours have any lift or is it stock we just bought a 2004 pilot for off roading for our you tube channel @dummytechtalks an id like to ask some questions about how they handle trails
I have a custom lift. A lot of my mods are posted on my channel and this build forum. www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/2007-honda-pilot-off-road-build.20884/
First, make sure the fan is running. Forward motion will cool the engine if the fans are not operating. If you're driving and it's still overheating you have a flow issue. First thing to check would be the thermostat at that point. Water pumps do fail, but it's much less likely to be the culprit. Throwing parts at the problem will end in frustration and an empty wallet if you don't do some basic troubleshooting first.
Not a bad place to start. I bought a pressure test after this video to diagnose the problem.
Where did you get those rock sliders? Or are they custom?
They are custom. Here is the video ua-cam.com/video/MRxQEnvGJ0E/v-deo.htmlsi=WlzZkaNPXAiEuhyi
Hi my 2007 pilot overheated now engine wont run when cranking i can hear coolant reservior bubbling if its head gasket why there is no water on oil and no oil residue in my radiator ihope you could give me some insight before i will remove the head tnx
The head may have failed in a way that only lets combustion gasses into the reservoir.
Had an 05 pilot with a full size tire on an oem rim fit up there fully inflated. Had to struggle a bit as you did but I wasn't riding around with a flat spare tire.
My spare is oversized 245-75-16. I don't see why riding with low pressure in the spare is an issue? I raise and lower pressure in my tires all the time while off roading.
What kind of lift kit would you recommend? I'm looking to lift mine 3-4 inches. Super cool rig!
I would look at the 3" HRG ultimate kit.
What size wheels and tires are those? Looks nice
235-75-16 tires you can find those and the wheels on our amazon store www.amazon.com/shop/hondapilotoverland
Honda Pilot, what year is the Honda pilot
2007
Can I ask, where did you find that ditch light bracket kit?
No -lo designs makes them
I don't think even a good mud swap tire would have saved the day here. What a mucky mess that was. But that winch certainly impressed. Nice save.
I think my taller MTs would have helped, but I am not sure I would have made it without the winch. The new AT tires are so quiet and they are wearing so well!
@@GotterAdventure It's really tough to say what kind of tire would have helped or hurt giving that particular situation. That was some nasty stuff. But the recovery gear saved the day for sure. And I can attest to how those tires you have now wear like iron and have good road manners. But their off-road capabilities are fair at best in soft mud. Dropping the pressure down to 14 psi does help a little.
That looked like a slippery and sticky situation! Nice recovery. It's always good when you have the tools and ability to self recover when you're off road.
Thanks! It was great to practice a good self recovery. The front hitch recovery point has been really important for our offroad adventures.
Lil homie said “Do it for the content!!!” 🤣🤣🤣
I have to keep eyes on him! He might do something too crazy LOL
I heard that too lmaooo
I think you found the limits of the toyo's ! Nice work on the recovery.
They aren't great in mud, but they do better than I would imagine base on their looks. We actually did pretty well on the obstacle course. Stay tuned!
This cats an idiot!
Been watching your videos. How have the napa cv axles holding up for you?
I would say they are doing well. Plus they have a lifetime warranty. In my experience a subframe drop helps and so does keeping the front sway bar connected
@GotterAdventure I didn't have good experience with some aftermarket shocks. I've been leery about aftermarkets ever since but your response gives me confidence.
@polovan23 OEM is best if you can afford it. Otherwise, we have to find good quality third-party.
Eat some chicken
Hey man just came across your channel today and I just bought myself a 2007 honda pilot this weekend and plan to do some off roading and road tips and camping and just explore. It’s currently sitting at 180xxx kms what would be some advice for building something that’s reliable for what I want to do and what should I start with? Wheels and tires or a lift and what brands are good? Any advice would be appreciated I do plan to watch lots of your videos to learn cheers !
I would start with building yout rig in this order. 1) 245-75-16 AT or MT tires of your choice 2) recovery gear (4x traction boards, hitch shackle, hand winch, rope, soft shackles, etc...) 3) NoLoDesign Skid plates 4) lift kit (HRG Ultimate 3" is a good kit)
@@GotterAdventure hey thanks for the reply I really appreciate the advice cheers!
@@GotterAdventure what brands would you recommend for rear adjustable control arms and front camber bolts. I see that they are needed to instal the lift kit.
@@_is300mj__7 What size lift are you considering? I would stick to 1.5 without a subframe drop to be safe. I am running Moog brand now.
Hello I have a question so I’m trying to buy a 2003 Honda pilot and he says that there’s nothing wrong with the vehicle but it needs to put new sway bars and the handling is not driving perfectly is that easy fix
Always check the undercarriage for rust. Especially in the rear, where the subframe meets the body. swaybar links would make a clicking noise if they were bad sometimes they need to be cut off which makes the job harder
Some of those ruts look pretty deep, I'm headed down in 2 weeks, how much ground clearance do you have. I'm sitting at 11".
I need to take a fresh measurement, but I am over 10.5 for sure.
I'm headed to Uwharrie in 2 weeks, for the first time and they are calling for rain on Friday and possibly Saturday. I hope I do as well, as you did, In my Bronco Sport Badlands. I'm now re-watching some of your videos, before heading down. I also hope to make AWD Fest, this year.
I hope all went well! The badlands at 11" should do well at Uwharrie! You can buy AWD Fest tickets here campingrandy.com/products/AWDFEST-2024-VIP-ADMISSION-p572802775
