- This video shows you how to replace an electrical plug end. This setup is an american 110 volt end. Many other types will install similarly to this. You can buy electrical plug ends at various home improvement stores or even online. I bought this electrical plug end at amazon.com for a buck fifty. 50percent off. Anyway, i hope this helps! see you later internet!

Thank you! Your video saved me from buying a new vacuum. It was super easy to follow.
Your comment made my day, thanks for the good words. Glad I could help :) ❤️
Stay at home mom here with a broken prong on my small space heater (not cool for winter time) with your tutorial I got it back up and running easily for only a few bucks. Thank you so much!
glad i could help!
Thanks! We were struggling with a vacuum cleaner as well and almost bought a new one. But 3 bucks later with this video it works like a charm!!
Jessi Koch this is what its about! Im glad i could help!!
THANK YOU so much! I bought the same plug end (still $1.59 on Amazon in October, 2019). My vacuum cleaner repairman insisted I should replace the entire cord for $200.00. He finally agreed to fix the plug end for $40. (One of the prongs had broken off). Because of your video it cost me $1.59 -plus stress and nagging from faithless wife. I finished it by wrapping it with electrical tape. It makes it look a bit less professional, although I did a pretty good job, but it strengthens the connection. Thanks again! Cheers!
Glad I could help. Just be safe and make sure the connections are made as the manufacturer of the plug intended and you are fine. Tape added is ok e
My puppy chewed up my Vornado fan cord, severing the plug. I almost threw it away, thinking it was no good. I would've had to pay over $100 to replace it. But thank God I had a flash of wisdom and decided to look this up. I'll be fixing it very soon. Thanks!
LOL Our dog has chewed the cord for the paper shredder, my Ionic Pro Air Cleaner, and a fan..which is why I am viewing this video. *sigh Bloody dogs! :-)
One of the prongs on my vacuum broke off, so I bought the Leviton 48643 15 Amp, 125 Volt Non grounding plug, Black on Amazon for $4. I followed these instructions exactly, and my vacuum works perfectly. Thanks!
glad i could help!
Lmao paying $4 instead of $1.50 at Lowe’s
Using the correct tools is always a good practice for a better product at the end
Worked great, same part at Lowes! Vacuum is back working!
Yes!
i almost threw away my shark vacuum because of this issue. my old plug actually caught fire and broke off in the outlet. decided to look this up on youtube and what do u know. this absolutely fixed it. i had to cut my cord a bit longer cuz i didnt have the luxury of having the longer support but it still worked. i purchased the same plug on ebay but i paid 4 and some change. not a buck fifty but it was better than spending another 200. thx!
+quinton lawson holy Awesome! Glad I could help. This is a great success story!
My dog just ate my plug in part with the prongs on my Shark vacuum yesterday! Luckily the rest of the cord is fine. I will be doing this tomorrow because i don’t want buy another Shark either! Your comment gave me the confidence to go for it! Thanks!
Both of my Shark vacuum cleaners did the same thing with smoking/catching fire in outlet.
Same issue with me, but I LOVE my shark and I a so glad I did not have to give it up. This $3 fix was worth the investment, I learned something new and I saved my Shark! Thank you. Vacuums take a beating and need some TLC!
My shark did the same thing 3 days ago! the outlet was smoking and one of the prong was stuck in the outlet. I was vacuum shopping then found this thank you
Thanks! Quick and easy tutorial.
Just bought the replacement from Home Depot (there's an easier one to open there that has a screw in it) and it worked great. My vacuum is now fixed!
glad to hear you got it fixed!
SNAP? NOW THAT'S AN INTERESTING WORD FOR SOMETHING THAT WON'T SNAP......
Hi I have a 1973 royal dirt devil and the plug just broke on it.. it’s very similar to the replacement plug you used in this video. My main concern is the wires colors, one is black and one is white, does it go in any specific order on the new plug?? Or it doesn’t matter? Thanks!
So how can you tell that the plug polarity is not compromise?
Wish you shared link to plug end
How does that work with the vacuum when it has a power source box
My cord has a white and black wire. The prongs are identical and the screws are both brass. Can I just put the wires on either screw?
How did you troubleshoot that the plug was the problem?
Can you do one for European three prong plug please?
Thanks for the video. I just clobbered my canister vac plug as well and find this extremely useful. Question - did you replace with a polarized plug; also, what name brand on Amazon (or link) did you use? Thanks so much! Cheers.
Does this work on tv?
Caps that screw in are a lot easier than what you were using is very difficult to get those tabs open and it's likewise difficult to get the plug over the top of those tabs again.
ok so mine is a miele canister and it's a polorized plug. I replaced it with a standard 12 v plug and was told the smaller prong is hot (black wire) and bigger prong is ground (white) do you concur?
i do NOT when it comes to AC.... 12v plug though, you mention, sounds like polarity is a MAJOR factor. no pun intended..... major?
Can you change cords like this with equipment from different countries? ie only change the cord plug.
pretty sure, just be sure your matching the capability of the electronics! (hz, etc.)
Thank you
thanks kermit 🐸☕
i don't quite get this however i see it many places now.
Thank you. 😊
+aliceng728 your welcome!
Home depot the plug is about $1.50

You're really supposed to cut the plug at the end of that "strain relief".
make sure the polarity is correct or you will ruin your device.
There is no polarity on ac ,in household wiring there is mainly one "hot" or "live" wire called phase and a neutral wire and sometimes a green or bare wire for proper grounding of metal casings. In 99% it doesnt matter on which prong "hot" wire goes.www.doityourself.com/stry/ac-wiring-basics
One side of cord may be ridged or have writting on it. This is neutral (white) good luck.
Does it matter which screw to place black or white wire under?
HELL YA!!!
Retaining that cord and portion is really wonderful but if you don't have Man hands it's not going to happen
Am I able to just splice the whole cord ? The cord itself has cuts throughout. Instead just the plug end, can I not splice n rewire the cord with a new plug attached ?
Im not quite sure i understand what you are asking, but if you have cuts throughout the cord, you should probably replace the entire cord :/ please keep safety first!
@@TRYtoHELPyou thank you. I did replace the whole thing !! It works great !
I screwed up, I did save some of the old end portion. Do have any suggestions on how I can compensate for this?
Knuckle_Bump I suppose you can watch how I dealt with it or cut it back further so it's not there?
My concern is the wire is going to jiggle in the hole it goes through. I was thinking of trying to wrap the wire with some electrical tape to make it more rigged.
Yeah, that's one reason I left that part on for mine. I like the electrical tape idea! I think it will work.
Thank you my dad just bought a new vaccum and one of the plug ends metal prong broke off while i accidentally tugged it out of the outlet vacuuming because the vaccum model didn't come with a longer extension cord or whatever its called sorry for ignorance lol
Glad I could help!
I cant find a replacement plug on amazon
Hardweare store.
How do you open it
Christian Martinez can’t figure it out either
Thank you just took AC out and my dog chewed both fan plugs off
Does it matter which wire goes to which side? Is't there a hot and a neutral wire?
please read down through the comments. I have not had issues in the past. There are varying opinions.
What kind of plug!!!?
I did it with Avasva plans.
You didn't let us know which side is the hot wire and which side is the the ground
John Lenhart does not matter for alternating current but this video can help too? ua-cam.com/video/9Fsuv1Rh8z0/v-deo.html
Jf Mc Im a nice guy, but honestly fuck off, this is a quick fix for a damn vacuum stop trying to be the smart guy to save the day and ruin someones video, i just replaced mine and it works perfectly fine. Stop commenting under everyones comments with your negativity
There is n ground on a double insulated equipment. There is live and neutral and getting them wrong does not really matter. The plug seemed to be reversible.
@@okaro6595 yes that's why the plug has no marking on it I just did mine it worked great
Thank you for the video
You bet it was a pain in the butt to open that plug AND you SHOULD'VE shown a lot more activity on how you eventually got that off . A screwdriver, well if it slips it'll cut the hell out of your hand
