I accidently stepped on my plug for my vacuum cleaner and bent the grounding pin. When I tried to bend it back, it broke off. The first thing I thought was can I glue it back on. I went online to find a solution and then came across your video. After watching your video I know what I had to do. I ordered the Leviton grounding plug on Amazon. I just got it today and I installed it in ten minutes. Everything works great, and I learned something I never did before. Thanks for the great video.
I unplugged my fan on a hot day and the grounding pin was stuck in the outlet. This video saved me $200+ on a new cool air evaporator fan. Thank you so much.
I know this is an old video now, but I just fixed the plug on my freezer thanks to your instructions (I used the same plug, too) and it worked great! Thanks so much for this. :)
This was not elementary for me. I found an audio power conditioner for ten bucks, and was suspicious of the missing pin. I learned an immense amount of info here. Thanks !! I just replaced the plug, paying attention to everything you did. The only other thing I ever did was to replace the bridge pickup in one of my guitars, so this was a tremendous help to me. Subscribed.
My wife's ground plug fell out of her several years old laptop power cable, and I was considering ordering a new, hard to find, proprietary, expensive, power cable+adapter unit. Saw your video, and after a few dollars for a replacement plug, we're back in business. Many thanks!
Thank you so much for making this video. It has literally saved me over $150 in shipping costs ($75 to and $75 from the manufacturer) for the commercial vacuum that I have. It's lasted me 20 years, and I hope to get another 20 from it.
Thank you for not forgetting the novice! Loved the Beverly Hillbilly reminder. You showed the best plug replacement to select and your demonstration was easy to follow and not too wordy. Heading to Home Depot today! Thank you!
Thanks so much Mark! I am a widow and am determined to handle these little projects myself. I have always been a bit leery of dealing with electrical - just because I don't really understand how it works; but you did a wonderful job of explaining how it all fits and why you need to take certain precautions. I really appreciate this. I had asked my brother in law about the grounding prong......and if it was necessary. He told me definitely it was, so now I am happy to see your video of how to replace it myself!!! Much gratitude!!!
Thanks Mark for making this video! The grounding pin came out of the plug for our pellet smoker, I ordered the part and followed your instructions in the video and was able to fix it.
Thank you so much, I subbed. I was gifted a fridge from one of my customers when I had mentioned I moved to a new place and I noticed the ground part of the plug was taken off (I guess to make it fit on a two outlet) and was worried about using the fridge, but THIS, this is EXACTLY what I needed, and I'm going to Home Depot in a bit to get one. This vid explained it very well, thanks!
Thanks. Now I don't have to throw away a good fan. Glad you provided the "elementary" lesson. Everyone uses electric devices. So, the general public should find this useful.
Thanks for the info! I just fixed my treadmill after my grandson pulled the plug from the wall, leaving the ground pin sticking out of the outlet. He freaked out, but now thinks his Papa Mike is a genius! :-)
Thank you for posting! My daughter broke the ground plug off our washer machine and I was worried it would cost a lot of money … your video saved me hundreds of dollars 😃
This video was super helpful. I used an extension cord to wire an outdoor dusk to dawn sensor flood light and as soon as I was testing it, the ground got stuck in the outlet. We powered down the house, removed the ground, and we’re going to use another extension cord when the thought came to replace the plug. Your video saved the day! Very informative and helpful.
Heck yea this helped …. I’m a musician who knows little about electronics or power supplies , this will help me do minor repairs to many of my amps , thanks again
Mark, thanks my extension cord lost the pin and my brother said you don’t need it. Thanks for the instructions and I replaced it like you did. I subscribed
I’ve never done anything like this before, but my mini freezer ground plug broke off so I ordered this part and did what you said and it seems to be working!
This video was perfect for me to change out the plug to our dehumidifier!! Thank you so much for the simple easy to follow directions...Bookmarking this site!!
Thank you for this! I lived in a house w/o ground in most of the outlets and kept losing my adapter for my laptop, so my dad just cut the ground prong off. After I got some experience in electrical work I realized it was dangerous not to have a ground prong lol.
Not a subscriber. Found it useful. Now I’m subscribed. Thank you sir! Just had one of those prongs go loose and fall out. Not the ground one but either the black or neutral.
I have a question if the polarized side was ground down to make it a flat connector that the ground was not needed for a non polarized tool would it be safe? Second question what are the two holes in a plug used for?
I know this is an old video but I hope this is worth a shot. I don't know the watts or power or whatever it is, but can I buy the same plug used in this video for a treadmill? Or does the plug end really not matter too much.
I have a HP Envy notebook and my ground came out by being accidently stepped on and I'm worried about needing to hurry up and replace it. Thank you for this video.
my newly bought Panasonic refrigerator has only 2 prong cord and has green ground wire hanging at the back, i want to have it changed to a 3 prong for safety is that possible? thanks
I need to replace the plug on my pressure washer due to a broken prong. The current GFCI plug says "20A" on the back - can I cut off the plug and replace with a 15A plug similar to the one in your video, or will that cause a potential hazard/fire?
1:45 By “touching it” do you mean touching the outlet or even the appliance itself like a microwave? What if I use a microwave that had the grounding prong broken off, but the microwave has reached zero on the timer meaning it’s not heating anything up anymore. Would I be safe to touch it? Also would wearing rubber gloves prevent shock?
Is this Leviton model compatible with 120 Volt, 11.5 amp plug? (Vitamix grounding prong broke off) I’m a novice but handy and your video is easy to follow. From my Amazon search, looks like this will work as this model came up as well as another Leviton 120 v.
Thanks I followed your video and it worked like a charm, i had a guitar effects processor with a broken ground, and finally fixed it. What type of audio problems would i have encountered if i keep using it? I always had volume spikes, i wonder if that was because the ground was broke.
So I want to replace my cord for my vaccum. The vacuum I have said it takes 120v 10A. In the stores I can only find 125v and 15a replacement plug. Would I be able to use that to replace it?
weird question But can I use this to replace the end of my window ac power cord. The ground broke off and i dont have the money to replace the whole cord
I was a Carpenter, and a mechanic, and I always like to watch a quick reminder even though I know what I'm doing... It's bc the two worlds are the same but different... and mechanics get zapped every yr bc we forget black is ground for us... not power!
thanks for the videos! I have a power conditioner that say 115 volt 15 amp 60hz on the front. I got it for free cause the ground pin is broken off the plug. can I use the plug you had in the video, even though it's for 120? Would using a higher rated plug effect the emi filtering or surge protection? I would like to use it to power my synthesizers so I thought having something like this would cure any brownouts I get sometimes and eliminate any ground noises
Great video for those of us who have no clue! I have a question I’m hoping to get answered. I have a cord that the ground broke off and purchased a replacement plug. Problem is once I cut the cord to expose the wires, there are only 2 wires instead of 3, a tan and a blue. I’m a for a light for a photo studio setup. Any clue how I should connect?
I think they have a little current tester thing you can get for like $10 approximately in home depot or Lowes or any other home improvement store that sells tools
I have a vitamix missing the pin, help me understand why this is dangerous to use but using a 2 prong plug for other small appliances is fine, say a hand blender?
I bought a used fan and didn’t check it until I got home. Mistake...lol. It worked on low and medium speeds, but not on high. While I was cleaning it up I noticed that it had a missing prong. That’s not good. If the prong is replaced, will the fan still not work on high? Is it likely the only culprit of it not working on high. I still thing the fan would be a great deal for a $3 plug replacement.
I accidently stepped on my plug for my vacuum cleaner and bent the grounding pin. When I tried to bend it back, it broke off. The first thing I thought was can I glue it back on. Consider your fan base broadened. Fantastic video. My dehumidifier is running beautiful now. Thank you!
Excellent! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment!
Thanks for the info! I just fixed my treadmill after my grandson pulled the plug from the wall, leaving the ground pin sticking out of the outlet. He freaked out, but now thinks his Papa Mike is a genius! :-)
Thank you. Exactly what I need. I was dreading buying a $50 replacement cord.
Newbie here who greatly appreciated this video. Thanks !
Thank you , you saved me a couple hundred dollars on a new washing machine.
You know the cord is replaceable right?
Thank you for posting! My daughter broke the ground plug off our washer machine and I was worried it would cost a lot of money … your video saved me hundreds of dollars 😃

You saved my guitar amp! Grounding pin fell out and it’s been a few years since I have been able to use it. Thank you sir 🎉🎉🫡
Thanks for showing us how to do this! Had the exact same problem with an extension cord. Helped us a lot!
My treadmill's ground came off so this is perfect, thank you. P.S. I subbed.
Moved, and our fridge ground got smashed. this was so helpful! Thank you!
Thank you very much. You saved me the price of buying two extension cords
Thanks guy.i just changed my vacuum plug and I'm dancing around.so proud of myself
Thank you so much. I changed plug for my mom!!! Perfect step by step instructions!!! I really liked doing this!!!
Microwave plug
I’ve never done anything like this before, but my mini freezer ground plug broke off so I ordered this part and did what you said and it seems to be working!
Embarrassed to I say I was going to buy a new power cord today for a freezer because the pin broke off!! You saved me $75 bucks!!! Subscriber her now!
Thanks for the video and the clear instructions.Be careful when working with electricity
This video was perfect for me to change out the plug to our dehumidifier!! Thank you so much for the simple easy to follow directions...Bookmarking this site!!
Thank you for this video! Was able to replace the plug on my vacuum following your steps.

Just replaced my plug!!!
Thanks a million!!!!
You're the bee's knees 🙌 I can fix my heater now 😭
Wow very helpful presentation sir, like it ❤❤❤❤❤
Many many thanks
Thank you for this video. I found it helpful and easy to follow.
This is just what I was looking for (pool pump)
Very cool! Thanks
Thanks this is exactly what I needed along with where to buy it
I didn’t know Leviton made such a product, thanks for the video!
I've done this before but I couldn't remember which color went where. Black oil- I think I'll always remember that now! Thanks so much.
Hey Mark - thanks for the video - I was looking if there is a way to just push the bottom pin back into the plug. Is that possible?
Thank You Mark, you did a Wonderful job of explaining this procedure. 🤗
Not a subscriber. Found it useful. Now I’m subscribed. Thank you sir! Just had one of those prongs go loose and fall out. Not the ground one but either the black or neutral.
Thank you so much for this video. I've never done anything like this, and it worked great.
Gonna give this a try on my daughter's dorm frig.
Could you do this for a 30 amp "shore power" cord for a boat; male side?
Thank you Mark! Thought I knew what I was doing, now I know for sure!
Thanks. Fixed extension cord because of this video
This worked great man, thanks!
I have a question if the polarized side was ground down to make it a flat connector that the ground was not needed for a non polarized tool would it be safe? Second question what are the two holes in a plug used for?
Does it matter if I replace a 5 amps 125 volts to a replacement plug that is 15 amps 125 volts?
Great video, fixed a high dollar air compressor because of this!
I know this is an old video but I hope this is worth a shot. I don't know the watts or power or whatever it is, but can I buy the same plug used in this video for a treadmill? Or does the plug end really not matter too much.

This was extremely helpful to me. Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much. This was really helpful.
This video was so useful !!!!
I haven't done much electrical work in a while. When did black become hot and not the ground? Or negative side?
I need to replace the plug on my pressure washer due to a broken prong. The current GFCI plug says "20A" on the back - can I cut off the plug and replace with a 15A plug similar to the one in your video, or will that cause a potential hazard/fire?

Excellent video. Clear, and to the point. Thank you.
Great video!
Can you save the plug? i have a guitar amp where he pulled the ground out... its 50 years old, i would love to save it?
Thanks I followed your video and it worked like a charm, i had a guitar effects processor with a broken ground, and finally fixed it. What type of audio problems would i have encountered if i keep using it? I always had volume spikes, i wonder if that was because the ground was broke.
Do you have to use insulated tools?
So I want to replace my cord for my vaccum. The vacuum I have said it takes 120v 10A. In the stores I can only find 125v and 15a replacement plug. Would I be able to use that to replace it?
fixed my treadmill. Thanks!!
weird question But can I use this to replace the end of my window ac power cord. The ground broke off and i dont have the money to replace the whole cord
thank you this was helpful

I didn't even know these existed. Nobody tells the new electrician anything useful and simple. It's normally one or the other, if either.
Will this work for a 5000 BTU window unit? Thanks
What if you have 1 green and 2 black wires ? Which black wire goes to silver and which one to brass connector ?
Great video and instruction! Thanks!
My refrigerator power cord grounded pin broken. Power cord cost me approx. $75-$100. Thanks for share this video.
Very helpful! Thanks.
thank you so much for making this video!
So for someone a little weary of electrical stuff but also has super glue at home, I could just as easily fix it by glueing it back into it's hole?
I have a cable with three prongs and it’s got 3 conductors and a tiny bare wire. Which lug do I attach it to?
What if a prong snapped off a two prong plug, can I solder it back on?
This just happened to my fan so this was very helpful for us so good move with this post lol
Thank you
The video was very helpful
Hi,I seem to have 2 black cables for neutral and positive, how does 1 identify live?
I think they have a little current tester thing you can get for like $10 approximately in home depot or Lowes or any other home improvement store that sells tools
@@soundspark Thank you
What If i have a red instead of a silver wire? Does it just replace the silver?
Does it matter if the cord spec is 10A/120V and the replacement plug is 15AMP?
The ground pin broke on my Vitamix plug. This will be useful, thanks.
Update, I fixed it following this vid. And I never done electrical sh*t before. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the video
I have a vitamix missing the pin, help me understand why this is dangerous to use but using a 2 prong plug for other small appliances is fine, say a hand blender?
What did you do with those silver strands? Did you cut them off? Do they have some purpose? It's unclear. You can see them at 2:45 into the video
Can I use this for my treadmill?
Sure can!
Great Video
Thanks!
You rock! Thank you!
