That’s why we love this channel. Fixing stuff instead of buying new because most people can’t afford to just throw stuff away and buy new. Love these types of videos brother.

Thank you Steve. At some point we will get a new vacuum, but not today.

One thing I might suggest for this cord is to offset your splices (put one splice ahead of the other one), that way it streamlines the cord a bit better so you don't have one large bulking knot where the splice is. That was a good job that will last forever though.

I thought about that too. I was just being a slacker.

Brian, if you stagger where the splices go, the cord won't have as big of a lump in it. Harbor Freight has a good selection of heat shrink, and for less money. Shrink wrap can come with adhesive in them to keep moisture out of it when shrunk.

I like to replace the whole cord with bigger more powerful cords people yank on those cords so much they should have reinforced string I would worry the cord will pull apart at repair

I thought of that was well. we will see how long this lasts. That repair that was made it it lasted us over 2 years. I would like to think this would be better than that. We will see. Just needed to get it back up and running asap. Big part of our life with young ones.

why didn't you use heat gun on the solder shrink connectors?

I would bust put a new 30’ cord on that way I don’t have the Ridgid piece in my cord and 3-1 heat shrink works good

Yeah I get it, I did not realized it would only be like 20.00. My mind went straight to fix. We are not super crazy with pulling it around. I think it was just fixing the first fix that was not that great. Thank you.

Ok. I'm disagreeing on this one. Replace the cord. Period. If they can afford a vac like that, they can afford a new cord. I'm sure your repair would be satisfactory and safe enough, but the repair will be noticed with every use. Sliding the cord through the hand on wind-up every use will get old for the user.
Buy a better quality cord and connector. Make the owner happy they called you.

@@ThatFixItGuy I totally get that, especially if it's your own. Excellent repair. While in the USAF, I made dozens of in-line splices on power and system wires for communications equipment. Many had to be impervious to water and fluids, like deicing fluid.
      Thanks again for posting.
