Great review Steven. Way to put it through its paces. My son was actually watching with me and I started telling him who you are and where you're at. Looks like you gained a new viewer. 👍🏼😉
Ha ha awesome brotha ... hopefully les stroud is gonna shate this ine soon to get some eyeballs on this video ! ... get him an account i need all the subs i can get JK... thanks as always man!
I like helle knife blades, they are easy to sharpen, but I don't care much for the handles they make, I can't get a good grip. But I agree on the batoning part! Cheers hatman 🍻 have a great day ✌️
Thanks for commenting !! This blade is the best of the three i own and super comfy... granted the wood is slippery especially when wet so more handle texture could have been a nice touch
I’ve had this knife for a few years. Handle is chipped now. I actually bent the blade putting to much force into making wood shavings. The leather sheath no longer secures the knife safely. I had to put a mandatory land yard so I wouldn’t lose the knife. I am going to be going through warranty with this knife

Why do you think it won't throw sparks from a ferrocerium rod. I seem to have understood you believe the steel is the cause? Are you certain it is not the geometrie of the spine? Stainless steel is not so good at throwing sparks from flint (inferior flint striking) , but has been shown to work just fine with a ferro rod. The reason is, that the ferro rod produces the spark, not the knife. In a flint and steel kit the spark is produced from the steel. I plan to 'build' my own temagami from a blade blank, as I have already done with the mandra.
According to helle it has alot to do with the hardness of the steel. Example the utavear has a different steel and will throw sparks. Ive heard that with some modification (grinding or filing) the temagami will throw better sparks but not sufficient enough to be relied upon in a survivak sitiation where you want a high volume of hot sparks... but out of the box the temagami is not equipped to do so
Backcountry King Outdoors Ah, you are talking about the laminated steel! The more flexible outer layers on the blade are too soft for the ferro rod. Now I get it! Thanks!
I'm looking to buy this as a knife blank, so I appreciate this video. Curious why this metal won't make sparks? There is an option for Stainless and Carbon steel. Thanks!
Hi there i have heard if you grind the spine it may throw sparks... it has to do with the triple laminated steel they use..so yes this blade is not ideal to use with a ferro rod
And you can always use the edge of the blade instead of the spine as Les Stroud ALWAYS does. He never uses the spine. Only the blade edge. It's really not that big a deal. Or get a piece of hacksaw blade a broken piece of glass a rock there is several several options. There is no reason to use the back of your knife. That being said, i use the back of my knife sometimes. Lol
Great looking knife, and a true heirloom object. Thank you for showing it to us, Steve
Thanks for commenting and watching! Great knife and your right a nice heirloom one day!

Many differentially heat treated knives cant strike a ferro rod. My carbon steel kellan puukko is the same.
Likely yes..this model doesnt do an adequate job though.

What good is a knife that doesn’t throw a spark?
If you have a good ferro rod it shouldn't matter
Ferro rods come with strikers man lol

Can't start a fire or batton..... kinda pointless carrying it... even as a second knife.... great looking though.
Sorry.. can i offer a different opinion. It Will strike sparks sufficient to start a fire from the very tip of the spine. Enough to save your life!
Interesting man thanks !! I will go and test that out
Pass down a better knife.
Wow to take the time to type something negative... literally I don't understand the point
