The Temagami knife is sturdy and beautiful. The curly birch handle on mine is well-figured with "birds eyes" and almost an agate effect in the wood.. I will abuse my Mora instead because to me it is a nice collector.(Carbon) version. This knife will serve you well in the Canadian bush and is supremely sharp out of the box. Augmented with a good axe or hatchet, this knife would be the one I would stake it on..
It's a bit strong to say that "he must know" that the grooves don't work for fire steels. Helle themselves didn't know it would not work until they tried to strike a spark!
