The Nord has been really good for trips where I want to cover a lot of ground, but am not carrying an axe. If you needed to cut up some dry, fallen branches for a fire, or build a shelter, you could do that, and the Nord will excel as with food prep and basic trail/camp chores. It is reasonably light and rustproof, a really good companion on the trail.
I had my order in the second this knife went public, after years of badgering Helle about making a larger, full tang knife, with a bigger handle. I have been using it heavily ever since. It was great for camping trips last summer, and I use on the trail quite a bit. It limbs as well, or better than some bigger choppers because it is so slicy. My only complaint has been that one side of the handle was shaped a little too round - more round than the other side. I had to sand it down and re-oil it, but that is not unexpected with a semi-production Scandinavian knife or tool. My Nord has held an edge remarkable well. I run a ceramic rod over it from time to time, and strop it on my pant leg between uses, and just keep it sharp all the time. Surprisingly light relative to the amount of chopping it can do.
@@bradfarrahgerwing154 I have a Helle skinning knife, and have recently been interested in getting the Nord and the lappaland, wow good to hear the great feedback, because I havent been able to justify an aus8 equivalent steel for 180-250 when I can just buy another Bradford with magnacut or 3V steel, but I love Helle Knives, they are fantastic.
