    Good job man; can't wait to get one of the Godin Oud's! You're very talented too, you have a great feel for the music you are playing, sounds very natural.

      Majnuun Music & Dance Have u tried the Multioud Encore version? It costs half the price. Sure it does not have the same preamp, but maybe with a nice mixer and effects one can achieve a good sound! What are your thoughts about that?

      ***** I think one of my clients has one... He was saying it only has the one pickup under the bridge, which is good enough. But my favorite aspect of the MultiOud Ambiance was the ability to mix the sounds before going out to the amp. I really liked the sound of the "blend" option, and the various images.

    There is great joy in your playing. Thank you for posting it. Since you feel that this oud is best suited to Turkish tuning what should I tune it to. I am not sure what a turkish tuning is.

    I have a question. You talk about how it's modeled after Turkish ouds. I play fusion music, but I am trained in Arabic music and use Arabic tuning. The oud I am used to playing (which has gotten a cracked neck that has been fixed a couple of times, so it's pretty much kaput at this point) was a Turkish oud, and I found that the Arabic tuning was not ideal for the instrument since Arabic ouds are tuned a step lower. However, all of the tunes that I play with my band (Atash) are based on Arabic tuning, so I'm kind of locked into that tuning for the sake of resonance. Obviously, I made do with my Turkish oud and it was fine, but an oud made for Arabic music would be a better fit. I was convinced that my next oud should be an Arabic oud. However, because we play in a format which includes loud instruments like drumset and djembe, and play in a lot of clubs and sometimes on very small stages, it's more important that I play an instrument which can be more easily amplified without as many problems with feedback as an authentic acoustic oud with a pickup would have. So my question is, does this oud play well in Arabic tuning? I'm used to playing a Turkish oud in Arabic tuning, so it's not a huge concern. I like the fact that it can also be played acoustically, as I don't want to have to plug it in everytime I practice, and though I'll miss the round bowl back, I think it's an acceptable compromise. I would categorize my use of oud as being that I'm mainly a violinist who plays oud on a few tunes, but it's not my main instrument, so I'm not as much of a stickler about getting a real authentic oud to play at home. When I have more money I could do that, but for now, I need something practical that can be amplified easily and travels well. I hate electric ouds (or violins for that matter) that have no acoustic qualities at all. Do you think this oud is the best choice for my purposes?

    • @OudforGuitarists
      @OudforGuitarists  9 років тому +2

      I totally follow... I think the multioud is a good choice for you. You could put a set of normal tension Aquila Arabic Oud strings on it and the string tension should be no problem for the scale of this instrument. (Aquila strings are higher tension compared to other string brands) I think it comes down to convenience and price. These MultiOuds run between $700 to $1500 depending on your location and where you get it from (ebay vs retail store etc).
      Your other option might be to look into Dimitri Rapakousious www.dimitrisouds.com. See how much he is selling a basic unadorned flatback acoustic/electric ouds, you can see one here: Electric oud made by D.Rapakousios video 3.
      I imagine in all practicality you should go for the MultiOud, it's probably faster to buy and easy to get your hands on. And just so easy to play and use. If it weren't such an eye sore, I would be totally in love with the MultiOud. This is the best choice for your purpose. The only thing you might not be used to is the weight. It's almost as heavy as an electric guitar. Good luck! Let me know how it goes!

    • @OudforGuitarists

      that's not a good idea. the tension of Godin strings is too high, you'll likely damage a normal Oud.

    Hello,
    I guess you are Iranian,
    My name is hassan, nice to meet you, would you please tell me what kind of strings are you using on Godwin multioud? What brand?

    • @OudforGuitarists
      @OudforGuitarists  9 років тому +1

      a traveler on the road Yes, I'm Iranian. Nice to meet you too! These strings are actually Godin brand strings. I think Godin outsources some other company to make strings for them, maybe not. I don't know which company makes them. But you can purchase these strings from Godin themselves I think.
      I can say that the strings are really, really good. They are good tension, not too light and not too heavy. And I think they are "rectified nylons". That means they have been sanded down to be consistently the same width all the way so you don't have any intonation problems down the neck.

    I've had a MultiOud for a few weeks, now. I dig it, but, while I understand why the low string is tuned to F, all of the literature I've looked at have the instrument tuned to another note. Is there any literature out there that focus on tuning to low F, or should I just buy other strings and tune it to a more traditional tuning?

    I tried Labella strings on the oud but no sound comes out from the speakers from some strings do you know why ?

    • @OudforGuitarists
      @OudforGuitarists  3 роки тому

      Hi Abdullah, I'm good thanks. It could be because the pressure on the bridge is not balanced. The pickup is a piece of metal inside the bridge and it makes contact with the wood vibrating with the string. When the pressure is not equal, you get some problems. This happened to me and others who have the multioud. Try putting the old strings back on, and if that doesn't help, maybe you have to take it to guitar repair. They can fix it easily.

  • @stevenbeechey

    Why the FADGCF Tuning? it seems to not have much in common with any traditional tuning I've seen

    • @OudforGuitarists
      @OudforGuitarists  5 років тому +2

      The old ouds were 5 courses either GADgc or FADgc. Later a bass string was added. Now I stead of the bass string so there is FADgcf which increases the range. So the basic 4 course ADgc which makes up the basic technique and range of the oud stays the same in all these tunings.

      +Abdullah AlGain That's a good question. If I were you I would report this to Godin and they might have some suggestions for you. Also find out what material the wound part of the strings are made from and they might help you. What pickup setting are you using?

    • @3zfe
      @3zfe 10 років тому

      Majnuun Music & Dance i discovered that not any strings are suietable for the godin oud you should see the string gauge before to see if it match the required one
      see the link
      www.godinguitars.com/godinstrings.htm
      but for the labella arabic tuning i really like them much better then the factory ones but i think the device inside the oud cant pickup the frequency for those strings

    • @حيدرمحمدعبدالزهرة
      @حيدرمحمدعبدالزهرة 4 роки тому

      He isn’t using chords, oud music consists mostly of single note lines with slides and stuff, i guess the lack of frets makes it hard to perform chords because you have to put your finger in the exact location to get the note, while on guitar you can put the finger anywhere behind the fret, for example the A major chord, if you want something similar on an oud, it’s impossible.

    Why most phrases in Arabic music are descending?

    • @OudforGuitarists
      @OudforGuitarists  5 років тому +2

      I've been wondering the same with vocals too. Vocals tend to have a lot of descending phrases and I think Oud ultimately derives style and convention from vocal music and that solidified over time. I'm speculating of course.

I have some interest in learning oud precisely from that angle - Gypsy music. Not sure if you are familiar with Thierry Robin (not sure how his oud playing places in oud player hierarchy but I found it very appealing):

      Nazih's electric Oud is made by Hetham Deeb. They are good electric ouds. But all electric Ouds suck, the concept is completely backwards. The best one I have found is using metal strings with electric guitar pick-ups as any electric should be. Like this:
