      That's not about speed, that's about nintendos ALL STAR net code lmao

    • @magicanimalboy1
      @magicanimalboy1 Рік тому +9

      That's because it's still peer to peer for actual gameplay and if someone doesn't have a good enough wifi they could disconnect and even worse if the randomly selected host has bad internet then a lobby crash may occur where multiple people disconnect. Now this would be fixed with a server based online system but even with peer to peer it is possible to have much better netcode where this only happens in rare circumstances but Nintendo has never been good with netcode and it still sucks three whole games in...

    Changing your DNS will only speed up the time it takes for the initial connection to be made. It *will not* increase your internet speeds. If you saw an improvement, it is either unrelated or caused by transmitting more data overall because you spent less time initializing.

      Ya don't need to go THIS overboard.
      Personally I use a ASUS RT-AX82U (about $150ish usually)
      With two rp-ax 58 ($100), one on each side of the House. Their hardwire to the main one. I got rock solid wifi 6 beyond my half acre through concrete block walls and all. I don't think I will need anything faster, I get full speed throughout the house and prooerty. About $350 and no more wifi issues ever again. Consider me a happy camper

      To be honest it depends on your knowledge of how to configure a router. The presented router seems to have a really nice UI so that non-IT guys can easily configure it the way you want. My router is dramatically cheaper and is more than enough for everything I do BUT it doesn't have that fancy UI and I am the IT guy and know how it works (what I need at the very least :P - not a network expert).

  • @kingsgold

    Be careful with QoS setting. It does sacrifice speed for reliability. So rather than devices getting full bandwidth, it will reduce bandwidth to make sure it obeys the priority list as best as possible. So your gaming session will get a more reliable lets say... 60ms of latency rather than full bandwidth and be bouncing between 45ms and 70ms of latency depending on traffic.
    Not saying to not use it. It has its pros and cons. You just need to test it our for yourself and see if the setting is right for you.

Coming from consoles I'm a bit torn on the GPU front, as I think (proper) ray tracing implementation is one of the things that makes the PC platform special... Nvidia seems better on all fronts at the high-end but it looks like AMD offers more value.

      @pete1042 Рік тому

      @@Nucleosynthese If RT is something you’re looking for then Nvidia is pretty much ahead on all fronts when compared to AMD. If i’m being honest something you’ll want to take into account in terms of the GPU you chose is the VRAM. 8 GB should be the min rn and even that’s a bit on the lower end especially considering newer games are going to demand more. I have an 8GB card with my 3060Ti and I haven’t had much trouble but tbh I mainly play indies and triple A games that allow mods - everything else I tend to get on my PS5.

    Something I recently discovered is Easymesh, which is the WiFi Alliance's Mesh system that allows for intercompatibility. I upgraded the firmware of my ISP's router, installed some cables over the roof, purchased two new routers, and set up a three-node mesh network in my home. This setup cost me only a quarter of what it would have cost to buy a similar-featured mesh product. I must say, these ASUS routers are truly worth it due to their numerous features and WiFi 6 capability but I'd still recommend you to search for your router's model to see if it supports Easymesh. If it does, you can still enjoy the benefits of a mesh network without spending a fortune.

Really the trick is getting flat ethernet cables and adhering them to the baseboards to go through the house; to my bedroom, to the living room, and to the basement. Can't drill holes in this house! Just using flat ethernet cables and white duct tape.

    I use a google mesh router and it's been night and day. The only downside is that it only has one Ethernet port on each node. The main node is in the living room with my consoles, so i bought a TP Link network switch for around $20 on amazon and connected it to the main node and then ran Ethernet cables from the network switch to my consoles and other hardwired devices.
    Probably not the most efficient network setup, but it's a hell of a lot better than my old "gaming" routers. All of my ping issues and packet loss issues were resolved even when connecting everything to WiFi. I just wanted to run a wired connection to my consoles for peace of mind.

    Blindly changing your MTU to 1500 is NOT always going to increase your download speed. If you're in the UK on a PPPoE based connection (so any xDSL or FTTP connection via Openreach) this will lead to packet fragmentation and will SLOW your download speeds as the max MTU should be 1492..
    Also switching your DNS to Google is going to have no effect on your download speed whatsoever. It may make your connection more responsive though.

    4:03 I know this video is old and your probably not going to read this comment. You mentioned punching holes in your wall to run Ethernet. But your house looks newer. Almost all newer houses (late 90s or later) use ethernet cable for the phone lines. Running Ethernet in most newer houses is as easy as buying a crimping tool and changing out the wall plate for Ethernet plates. To check if it’s possible take off a phone jack plate and see if there are 4 twisted pairs. If there is your house has Ethernet cables already in the walls. I watched a random UA-cam video and immediately ran to the basement to check where the phone lines come in before it was even over. Boom.

    Word to the wise, you’ll want to use Command Prompt for calculating an MTU Value for Ethernet usage.

    On the MTU note, it's not totally correct. Less bigger packages gives more speed and the correct value It's a case-by-case thing, you can find out which value is actually the best for you with a ping test with different MTU values until all packages got received. Also we don't use the same network types, PPPoE actually uses 1490 MTU by default. Them setting by default to that value basically covers every network as a whole, since PPPoA etc that use 1500 can also go at 1490.
    As for ports, usually DHCP automatically opens ports for whatever you are using. Opening your NAT to have NAT 1 might be ok if only to specific games (but then again, you have DHCP that do the same thing so....why?) and is generally a bad idea because it can let you exposed online for hacking attacks etc, it's usually not safe to have (especially when you already know that consoles sometimes got hacked to get your credit card data etc. This shit happens from time to time). But i guess it's just to show what the device can do.

    These theoretical speeds are just that, theoretical and often combine both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz (or 6ghz band of applicable) into 1 number. Its just for advertising and unrealistic. Plus you cant go faster than the connection running into it, so if you want speed be prepared to pay for faster internet at your ISP. This is way too expensive and overkill for 99.9% of people. Much cheaper systems that don’t have the gamer aesthetic are going to be just as good for a fraction of the price, and if you feel you actually need more performance, Hardwire it with an Ethernet cable to your existing router.

    question. I have an ROG Rapture GT-AXE16000 & 2 ROG Rapture GT6s. I have a large area to cover. I was told by ASUS Tech support before I bought them that they will work together. Well I was given the AXE16000 but I bought the 2 GT6s for the extended space. I told them I planned on using the AXE16000 as my main router and the 2 ROG GT6s as 2 nodes or what ever you want to call them. They told me they will work. Today when I called tech support they told me you cannot use them this way. Both devices under their specs say AiMesh capable.
    Are you familiar with these? If so do you know if they will work like I am hoping they will? If they do where do you recommend I go for quality support to get help setting them up. ASUS customer tech support is terrible. I read my serial number to the guy 10 times and I swear they were just not listening.
    Also for your info. I plan to have my AXE16000 connected to my ISP modem. My ISP does not have a built in router/wifi. So I will not need to put anything on their equipment in bridge mode. So the AXE16000 will be my router and I will have the 2 GT6s spread out far away on other side of building. My AXE16000 is next to and connected to a 16 port gigabit switch. I have Ethernet ran in the walls all the way out to where both GT6s are located. So the internet will be supplied from my AXE16000 through Cat6 to my GT6s so they will not be receiving WiFi signal from AXE16000 to the GT6s but instead they will be directly connected via Ethernet.
    I am hoping I can have the 2 GT6s receive wired internet and then broadcast WiFi from there to devices on that side of building.
    Will this work and how do I go about doing this?
    Thanks for your help in advance.

    If you don't wanna reconnect all your devices just make wifi name and PW the same as your old one if you wanna take the easy way.

    Our family got ethernet about a year or so ago and it makes a HUGE difference in everything. I went from downloading a game in hours to literal 10 minutes it's crazy.

    All my gaming devices are Ethernet. But I have a lot of devices in general. Thankfully, most of this information doesn’t apply to me😅

    the speed isnt important when youre in the game
    latency is what really matters. games dont use a ton of broadband..
    For "gamers" what speed is useful for is downloading things faster. thats it.
    this is why nobody should want wifi for gaming. the latency is almost always worse (and less stable) than a wired connection.

    The hell you playing on switch that requires a quick connection? It’s kinda overkill using an Ethernet cord with your switch
