I love the sound of the Torque Monster RD6. That three cylinder diesel is sweet music to my ears. It's just the kind of thing that reminds me that I was born in the wrong era.
I've got a 53 d2 5u that was my neighbors. He passed a few years ago and I bought the d2. I've since got it running but both clutches are stuck. It was a sweet operating machine before neighbor got sick but sat outside for a couple years and both clutches stuck. I'm going to try same thing today but under its own power, hoping for best.
You got lucky with that machine. All to often they sit and freeze up like you said complete tear down. Good luck with the rest of it looks like a good winter Protect...
I have just seen these videos. I have subscribed. I hope to see you restoring the dozer. It has lots of potential. Looking forward to the next video. :). Well done.
@@simonrichard9873 haha haha I just got a message from him and he says he's going to bring it back to life To quote his words we're going to make it run

Ha a fellow Minnesotan I have a good friend that lives in finlayson and I myself live in North Branch good job on saving some old tired iron take care boys
Many years ago, I bought a 1946 IH TD6 for $250.00. It turned over but the starting valves were all stuck. After rebuilding the head, I got it running on gas, but it took some coaching to get it to run on diesel. it was so handy around the place, I gave it to my Uncle to brush hog out some briars and multi-floral roses. I was out of the country when he passed, and they sold the little girl in an estate auction. I wish I knew where she went, and could buy her back.
You did good, Toby but you better watch Pop because if he ever slips and puts a blade on that 6, it'll be on for a WHILE! Yall take care and stay warm!
Great series! I started watching toward the end and thought I'd go back and see how it all started. Keep em coming! Question for you - what model is you PJ Trailer? What is the hauling capacity? Looks like a very nice trailer for hauling around equipment and such.
Also to gently try to unstick the engine have your dad pull the tractor a few feet in high gear with clutches engaged. Then shift to reverse and repeat. After 5 or ten tries and still stuck time to pull the pistons out
Thanks for the insight, I have a 1951 D2 5U I just got running but the right side steering clutch is seized, I don’t have access to another Cat to attempt to release the clutch as you did here, what is the best way to release the clutch with its own power? I have heard of flooding the clutch cavity with diesel for a couple of weeks to attempt to loosen the pack, any thoughts?
Our td9 was jammed up same side but worse, + bearing after bearing was shot. Even the bull gear was severely worn from bad bearings. Ever seal had to b redone.
are you going to make a gasket for the cover over the brake adjustments so no rain water can splash under it even if its covered with a tarp.. i wonder if a D2 motor is available somewhere. its almost too nice a tractor to part out. but i bet there are people itching for the parts..
Nice going! btw I've seen some other Cats around your place, have you thought of doing a video on them? P.s I know where a D9G is if you thought of getting one.
I resurrected a international btd6 that had been sitting upside down for 12 or so years we picked it up with a 20 ton cat digger then I had to pull the motor because the main engine clutch was well and truly stuck once I fixed that I got the motor going then to free the steering clutches I put a big chain on to a btd8 behind with the blade dug in then gave her full noise with both clutches pull in dropped the clutch prolly took 5-10 minutes of that to free both of them up
A few weeks ago , I went and looked at a D2 . It's was a good one with a PTO on the back. The steering clutch on one side was stuck. I now need to follow up on that one as I thought it would cost too much to repair.
I tried every thing to free mine but had to remove final drive and ended up breaking the drum. lucky I found two complete ones for 200 bucks so now have a spare.
How hard is it to find a engine for that dozer ? . If the freeze damage is repairable , maybe stitch the block . It looked pretty bad . Great video's !!!
I was almost trapped in an intervention , they said that I was addicted to heavy equipment but i reassured them that I could quit anytime I wanted , but they won't Listen , probably because I have a welding , mechanical and fabrication addiction too
Hi just like watching people do stuff to their machines , so can you get another engine from another D2 , yeah And it always helps if you put anti freeze in it , lol !
I bought a D4C and the dozer has been sitting for 22 years! Obviously the unit will not roll, tried with a winch and it didn't give at all. Now at this time the unit was in the ground about 4". Since than, the dozer has been raised up and put on 2" x 8" boards. Tracks have been cleaned and are being sprayed with a penetrating oil. My question is this; What else can I check that might be seized? All the levers work, or seem to anyway. Trans is out of gear but goes into gears just fine. The dozer uses a pony motor but it is off the dozer and the clutch mechanism that engages the big motor is seized. So, just want the tracks to roll so I can load it on a trailer and bring it home.
The starting clutch compartment takes the same type and grade of oil that you run in the main engine. Some people also choose to run ATF fluid in the starting clutch because it lubricates everything in there just fine but causes less viscous drag between the clutch discs and makes it easier to engage the starting pinion gear with the diesel engine's ring gear without clashing or grinding.
Hey I've got a D2 that we are also trying to free the right steering clutch, we were wondering about soaking the clutch in diesel and if we poured some in would it over flow into any compartments?

I watched this when you first made it and it popped up again. Fun to see 1113 in one piece even if that one piece was bad.
Maybe swap in a 3208 "throwaway" motor - a crawler version of the V8N Ford tractors from the '50s and '60s.
