You've GOT to watch the "Official" video. You will 💯% understand what's going on. It's definitely one of the most unique music videos ever made. Brad you were on the right track 👊
So jealous!... I never listened to a lot of their stuff when I was younger (Metallica fan mostly) but I've always appreciated them as a band. I knew the backstory about the two, but Dave and the band definitely made their place in metal
The songs "Countdown to Extinction" and "Ashes in Your Mouth" are 2 more of that album y'all should check out (album name also "Countdown to Extinction")
I always loved the lyric about his "black tooth grin." Dimebag Darrell of Pantera created a cocktail called a Blacktooth Grin which is a glass of Crown Royal with a splash of Diet Coke. It's delicious
Maple Grove Bar just outside of Cleveland serves this as designed and instructed by Dime himself. Last I was there (2008 ish) proceeds from each Blacktooth sold was going to a victims service non-profit of some kind
In the 1992 live version in Italy he states it’s about Schizophrenia before performing but he’s paraphrased different meanings for it over interviews as well.
Awe no video. I guess it'll be okay as long as we hear the GOAT .My man Mustaine. Thank god Metallica fired him The greatest thing to happen in metal history. The Birth of MEGADETH.
This is some of Megadeth's best, Dave seems to have really dug deep into the worst feeling's around his drug, alcohol and withdrawal issues with this song in particular. The dude really did pretty much go through hell to get clean back then.
Spent most of lockdown drinking and got myself a bit of a problem -- a liter of vodka every day. Quit cold turkey. Took about a week before I started feeling like sanity was returning and I wasn't going to die. If you've been through this, then you KNOW this song is about what you said. You are correct.
@@josephvanalstyne4049 too many times that I'd like to admit, only alcohol tho. I messed with cocaine a bit here and there, but never got into anything else other than that and weed
This song is about the demons Dave was going through, monkey on your back kind of thing. I unfortunately have been there done that but through Megadeth and my girlfriend ( now wife ) I’m one of the lucky ones who made it several try’s but thanks to my beautiful wife. 80’s and 90’s a lot of fun but a lot of other things not so much. God Bless
Back when Dave was still struggling a lot with the needle and most likely booze. A great song and a great concert that year. Now he has been born again for almost 20 years and hopefully free from those demons forever. 🙏 This record is 🔥. "I've seen the man use the needle, I've seen the needle use the man". Some other great Megadeth lyrics and I will let you kids find out what song they are on...
I always felt that Sweating Bullets was about a need to let go of things like anger and regrets. It sounds like a person who is living defensively from day to day due to a tragic past that he can’t let go of from fear of recurrences. Holding on to those things only makes you a bitter and angry person. I sensed that because it helped me to get out of the angry rut I was in once.
Another one of those songs that really needs the video to get the full effect. You'll definitely want to check it out at some point. Great reaction as always. 😎👍
Brad nailed the meaning of this song... it's about schizophrenia, voices in his head, paranoia, blacking out with loss of time and unaware of where you've been or what you've done...
@@yootoob1001001 ... Did you study Psychology in college? I did... I've studied Abnormal Psychology, Criminal Psychology, Childhood Developmental Psychology, read many case studies... it's really quite fascinating... if you are equally as qualified, I would absolutely be open to a clinical debate... otherwise, you have no idea what you are talking about...
LOL...love that first expression Brad! Awesome! The first time I ever saw Dave on stage was in early 1983 in SF...when he was on lead guitar for Metallica.
I saw Megadeth for the third time this weekend. And they played this song live. Dave introduced the song and said it was about one of his wife's friends. She would freak out and just leave his wife out in public with no way of getting home. Best of all she wouldn't say anything. Her friend would just get up and leave.
Dave likes singing from the perspective of a mentally unstable person, this is definitely one of those songs. It's like the devil on his shoulder telling him to do bad. "Hello me, it's me again."
Yeah, Brad got it right away. Reminds me of a friend who had dissociative disorder. Not sure what they did or did not do, can't tell if they are in trouble for it or not, constantly paranoid that they are going to get punished for something they haven't even thought of doing yet. I couldn't imagine living like you are always worried about things you did but don't know anything about. 😵💫
We used to drink a few beers and smoke a blunt, then head to the circle at the end of our street next to the river canal. And once we got a little blitzed, we would put this song on and sing it, do our own mosh pit below the only streetlight, and simply have a great time.
Hello from New England..Dave Mustain has said in many interviews this song is about his drug use and the resulting collapse of his mental health..He said he would black out for days and then literally wake up with blood stains on his body and didn't know where they came from..Love Mustain or hate him he's an OG metal warrior and has been thru some heavy stuff..Peace...

When this album came out, me and a mate would scream it out at the top of lungs (listening from a crappy walkman) as we walked to the station, smoking ciggies on our way to gigs :D
The guitar is absolutely insane for a song. The bass line of played will make your fingers Bleed. If it’s the right volume your eardrums too. If you got the meaning your life as well . The channels neon is dope Bad ass
I have to agree with the comment section about the official music video. It's my personal favorite music video ever made. Also: "I'm in trouble for the things I haven't got to yet!" One of the most relatable things in a song I've ever heard.
The official vid on the song illustrates the meaning of the song and is actually creatively made. I always thought about the last part with "committed me/acquitted me" also to mean the character in the song is perhaps more so a psychopath who knows exactly what they are doing as opposed to a psychotic who doesn't, and by putting them into psychiatric care instead of prison is letting them off the hook.
Lil metal trivia knowledge. That line " Smiling that black tooth grin" would inspire a whiskey drink named by Pantera lead guitarist Dime Bag Darrel Abbott The Black Toothed Grin. Believe it was Seagrams 7, Jack Daniels and a small splash of Coke ( the soft drink ) Just for the coloring lol
By Dave's own words, the song is about a "s**thouse crazy friend of his (then) girlfriend Pam, and about his own inner struggle not to "live inside his own head".
The lyrics, written by frontman Dave Mustaine, are from a first-person perspective of someone suffering from schizophrenia. Mustaine wrote the lyrics to express an idea that everyone suffers from the mental illness in their own ways, stating: "I wrote that about myself. It was pointed out to me that I'm kind of schizophrenic and that I live inside my head. Which is something I don't subscribe to, but I enjoyed the theory nonetheless. I think all of us are sweating bullets all the time. Society's a joke right now, and people are getting more and more hostile. When you think about having an evil twin or schizophrenia, I think a lot of us are schizo, because we live inside our heads. There's someone we all confer with; it's called our conscience. Some people cannot control their other side; it takes them over. Everybody has that psychotic side. Everyone has a thing that will make them snap."

Ashes In Your Mouth is such a bad ass song. The guitar harmonies always give me chills.
Ashes is probably THE most underrated Megadeth song. It should have the same level of notoriety as Hanger 18 and Holy Wars.
