Great video guys! I meant it, I wish I had hit half as many balls and done more swings without a ball. That's where the hard work gets done!
-Hal
Brilliant video , would love to hear what a gym workout built around this idea would look like eg what exercises sets and reps 💪🏻
We absolutely need this video!
Me too! Drew showed some stuff on the Be Better Golf channel in his home gym but would be nice to know some solid programming like 12 week cycles with a de-load week.
Yes I struggle with lower back pain and left hip pain myself
You can look it up on bebettergolf channel. But I tell it is mostly legs and big upper muscles. And max 5-7 reps.
Look up Change the game you tube channel. Tons of good stuff on there.
“Let’s hit 5 in a row without talking between…”
Hits one ball and instantly starts analyzing and discussing the swing 😂
His way of silencing RB 😂
@@nmaschas Amen
@@nmaschasthank god. Lol
God this is good. I’ve been absolutely pumping the ball after watching this. Feel like have to be so patient, especially with the longer clubs, then just let go of that ‘elastic snap’ feeling.
Great stuff. Growing up in the '60s the head pro at my course had a dynamic transition like Drew is teaching. It was just his style. There was no notion of increased swing speed. He once played Nicklaus to a draw in a college match. I used to emulate him sometimes because his swing just looked so cool. RIP Bill Johnson.
May Bill Johnson be with the Lord forever!❤️
My old man, said Bill Johnson was solid. But John Becker from Michigan State was the best back then. Beat Nicklaus twice.
@@BidenIsKing He was one of a kind. I had a playing lesson with him once, and on the first hole, which sloped to the right in front of the green, he said he was going to make his approach hop left twice before getting to the green. Damned if he didn't pull it off.
One more Bill Johnson story. One year they held the New England Open at a course measuring 7,800 yards. Bill shot 78, and was the only pro to break 80.
Awesome stories, thanks for sharing. 🙂
Really enjoyed this! I appreciate Ian getting out of his comfort zone to display how swing changes can be difficult at first.
I've been following Drew for a while and he really loves the sport. I've exchanged DMs with him and he is such a good resource for the sport, especially amateurs that NEED to focus on adding distance.
Love this type of content. So often I think people get caught up in new equipment (writing this during 2024 driver release week) that we overlook the gains that can be had by instruction and body conditioning. Lessons are expensive for a lot of people and this content is so much appreciated. Thank you!
Loved this little 2 parter. Drew is brilliant
Loving this series! glad you are breaking it up into these parts. giving me time to digest one before the next comes out. Way to go boys!
Love this video. I watched the first session yesterday and was waiting for todays. Well worth the wait. Can't wait to hit the driving range now...
Love these sessions, makes it much more understandable. Keep them coming. Thanks for your time, Drew.
Brilliant timing, watched the first episode this morning whilst working from home…was looking forward to this! FYI the net in the garden got a bashing earlier, this totally works, freeing up the whole body!
Great stuff, fellas.
I love all of the videos with Drew!!! He's my boy and his wisdom for moving the club fast is like gold!!
Fantastic videos, love videos like this that are real and relatable, some of the best I've seen. Drew explains things really well
Loved these 2 videos. Thanks for the great content and speed tips.
Guys this would be really useful as a 4 minute video. The how-to elements of this got lost.
You talking about stuff is interesting and has it's place but something we can take to the range would be really useful too.
Great series here. Drew makes it sound so easy and makes a lot of sense. Thanks gents.
I'd like to see a ten more of these videos. So so much good stuff
This has been a great series! I've undertaken speed training too because I'd like to get some speed back now I'm in my mid 50's. The content has really made me join the dots between the training programs I'm doing technically and why it works. Great stuff! Ironically, I've injured myself doing this and it was down to not warming up correctly and preparing myself for the speed session.
Great content. Very interesting topic. Definitely a topic I haven’t thought about. Love to see more.
Can't thank you guys enough, the knowledge level you're sharing here is elite. Don't think there is any other way to say it. Cheers
Fantastic stuff - yesterday's tomorrow did not disappoint!
Happily, I have adopted the SPS (single-plane swing) a la Moe Norman as taught by the Graves Golf Academy. I lost no distance but my back pain disappeared. My handicap is at 7 so at 68, getting my drives beyond 250 yds is a real advantage. :)
Sick Vid fellas! Great work on the modern golf swing! Bravo!
This flowing swing sequence has really helped me fix my driver swing not only for distance but direction. The re-centering and post up unleashes power and speed. You have to remember to keep your arms passive and allow the big muscles to whip them and your club through the ball. The hands and wrist control the face.
nice pt2 finally out!!
I'm loving these, great content. 👍🏻
Keep it coming boys!
I was at the range doing the drills from the last video and the speed definitely went up pretty fast but I felt like a truck hit me this morning. I forgot how fat I am, thanks for the reminder 😄
When I stared speed training I had an initial dip due to lack of using certain muscles and also a poor diet. Once I started eating better and allowing my body to catch back up (with proper rest days) the trend line of my speed increases hasn't dipped since.
Such a relevant video! I had the same problem as you had at first, wanting to be sure to master the result led me to undermine my swing speed. Now I'm confident that I can increase my swing speed.
This could of been an hr longer and I'd of been stoked for it.
Great content! Impressive insight from Drew
Loved both episodes, really nice work. Haven't a clue on how to do any of it myself. Some direction would be great.
Drew is great. Good video chaps gives me plenty to try myself
Awesome stuff guys!
Awesome, thanks!
This is really interesting as I have a slow backswing with a hideki type pause as it's the only way I could get my sequencing right and keep myself from jerking down from the top.
Great couple of vlogs! Speed is king but you still need strike and direction to take it onto the course! 👍
Keen to go try this. Great series
This is great! Watched it last night and tested this morning and saw immediate speed increase!
Watch Dr. Kwon on you tube as well., he is more in-depth
Love both parts of this series and would love more. Could be called “undoing everything leadbetter ever did to me”.
Interesting points made on the hi-speed stresses created physically - I wonder if at least part of Bryson taking the LIV money hinges around how many years he has available at that speed. Anyway - Awesome stuff!
Great work!
Practical. On the course, today, I added 10 yds to my drives with the footwork thing. I am impressed.
I wish they would have done each position in slow motion consecutively then showed it at real speed with Drew. It was kinda there piece by piece with both videos… and man I could watch Drew hit balls all day long. Great video again! Love the channel been watching since 13k subs.
Thanks for the video. Using this info I'm swinging faster and have gained distance with not much effort. My swing is freer and I feel in control. Thanks
@TXG Ian you need to get on a pressure mat. It's honestly so hard to believe how SOON you have to spike your pressure on the left side before your backswing ends. You need that visual feedback to get it right in your head because that gives you the trust to do it sooner and sooner.
Good stuff, this video series a lil long for the amount of info but i’ll definitely follow Drew going forward.
Great content, would love to see Drew set up in a fitting with a bomber auto flex, that would be sick.
A drill for getting more speed into the backswing is, at address, if you imagine you are hitting a hard little punch shot, left handed, it can feel easy to launch the club wide and deep toward the top. It's like you are hitting into the backswing.
Would love to hear more about landing left. This is something that I'm terrible at and have plenty of room for improvement.
That was fantastic. Many thanks. Where would I get that weighted hinged trainer?
I think of the legendary High Jumper Javier Sotomayor when i practice the leading "stamp". Go and see some of his videos and look at his final step where he jumps. It's like a dancing step that will work great as a rythm. It's like unloading the swing on your way to the top of the swing. The stamp is actually starting the downswing. Just like a javelin throw. Heel is down with the arm still going backwards in a throw.
Great progress Ian. I can see a 125 swing in a couple of weeks.
I will keep Joey Chestnut in mind when preparing my future golf game! Thanks RB. 🌭
Played today after watching video 1 and 2. I was amazed at the distance increase using your methods. I would like to comment on something that was said in your videos. Turn your ribcage, very important for me today. Turn the shoulders, back to the target, turn the chest, usually result for me sliding, flattening the shoulder plane or just generally ruining the swing. Turn the ribcage was the difference, Thanks
None of the analogies around the 11min mark were clicking with me until RB talked about the professional hot dog eaters. Light bulb moment for me :P
Yes awesome stuff So if I have herd you right your lifting the club up on the back swing with your right arm for Right-handed shot I been well it feels like both arms 😀👍🇨🇦
Brilliant! Would be interesting to have Bryson there and his way of thinking :)
Love this video, and the width of Drew’s swing is terrific. I have a question though … how tall is Drew and does that have an influence in his incredible width to his swing along with his sequence?
Great analysis guys not sure I can put that much effort into my golf swing.
While you mentioned outliers how does Fred Couples get so much club head speed
Hardest part is to swing easy on the course. Will try to take speed work swing to course and spray it everywhere. Smoothing it out keeps good distance with decent dispersion
BOOM!!!!!!!!!
Great content as usual guys!! What happened to the bracket though…..big guns have great drivers this year so would’ve been good to see who wins this year!?
Thanks great video when I land on that left foot could I try to make the left hip go straight back¿?????
Would love a training/recovery/preparation regime for strengthening the body before embarking on / while building speed to avoid injuries that come with the additional movement
I too would love to see what Drew does for this type of training routine.
Absolutely. Drew mentioned that golfers, like soccer players traditionally undertrain. Great rhetorical hook. I was immediately asking, "OK Drew, so what should we do doing to train?!" And nothing.
These videos added 30-40 yards to my drives
Ian is not a small guy but omg Drew looks like a giant hockey player!
Great stuff from Drew! Is he playing the DJ or Bryson signature shaft?
As a doctor, I appreciate what Drew talks about building up the reps and training the body to accommodate to the speed and motions. Too many weekend warriors injuring themselves with too much too soon
This speed focus in golf is so foreign to me being as I played competitively in the 1990’s as a junior. The 1st time we thought of swinging as fast as possible was when Happy Gilmore came out! lol. I would love to hit the ball 3-350 yards off the tee, but I also like hitting fairways at 275.
Do you have any physical training videos geared toward speed and distance that you plan to put out?
would be nice to hear whay sort of prep work is required to prevent injuries
Would you couple these training moves with Speed Sticks or The Stack?
Stuff to practice now.
Great video. With my coach we have got to stage 3 but am really confused about how I get from top of backswing with weight really loaded into the lead leg into the down swing. I have spent decades being a slider so it is really hard to reprogram my swing. This video really helps about needing to move to stage 4 and push off as soon as the weight in the lead leg has peaked. I can mange it with short irons (8i-PW) but anything longer than that is a lottery
The best I have seen is from AMG golf, you simply need to move the grip/handle faster and sooner when you begin the downswing. Also if you don't squat enough in the backswing to allow yourself to push/jump you will struggle. It's quite shocking how much your hips need to be angled in the backswing
Stop trying to think the “top” of your backswing is where you start your downswing. The downswing sequence should start when your hands are hip high in the backswing, the momentum of the club, your hands and arms will take it to the “top” no matter what. Just start that downswing sequence way earlier than you think
When I switched to one-piece takeaway while keeping face square to path I gained a lot of clubhead speed but also started hooking the ball. How do you hit the ball straight with this style of swing?
Just shifting weight heel to heel at address gets a nice bump in speed for me. I’ll be happy staying around113-115
Any discount codes from TXG or Drew for the Slingshot?
Loved it I'm currently at 170-180 ball speed with only a 10 min grip lesson from a pro at my old course would love to get to 200+ ball speed think this might help I'm 6.2 220lbs a scaffolder so have good core strength just struggle to release the club in longer clubs almost don't trust the speed I can create never seen how fast I can actually go monitor at top tracer range bugs out sometimes love the content as always keep it up lads 👍
Keep the videos like this coming guys. Drew is ace. You could probably now feel like you can tone down your swing for better accuracy and still hit over 115mph swing speed; so you’ve ended up with greater speed and accuracy; Amazing ⛳️🏌️♀️💥👊
Is there a summary anywhere? How can you take these 2 videos and create something simple and actionable?
should this be practiced right handed and left handed similar to superspeed training ?
Love these videos! My swing speed is similar to Ians. tried a bit of stage 1 and picked up 3 mph off the driver. How often should someone do this and for how long? Maybe 2-3 times a week for 30 balls? maybe 3-4 weeks per stage?
Go check Dr. Kwon’s YT channel if you haven’t already.
I'd *really* like to know how Ian stops the early cast....what's the swing thought/movement?
It would be interesting to compare these techniques to those from the "Gain 10 mph" video from 2 years ago
Jon rahm is like 6'2 220 lbs, finau is like 6'4. You can get away with a shorter swing when you're that big. I'd image if Rory swung like rahm he'd lose a lot of distance
So is all of this more or less just for a driver swing, or is this 'move' for everything? irons, wedges, etc.?
Guys, what is a good training regime to run concurrent with the speed training, so the body is less likely to break down?
So a question! I tried this today on the range and saw a incredible difference in ball flight and speed overall but I wonder about how hard/soft are you suppose to grip the club? I feel it like when I’m soft grip I don’t really get out as much speed as I am when holding around 6 on a 10 scale in pressure, not trying to control the club in any when just holding on for the ride
I grip as hard as humanly possibly then I relax it to about a 6/10 helps me stay fast and feel connected
My back is sore just listening to this. Maybe I should just accept my 220yrds in the short grass?
Did anyone see that "654" backspin on the first swing?? That's impressive. . .
Where can I get that training aid
Can we get more hot dog analogies from now on? I think we could squeeze one in on most videos.
I would prefer accuracy over distance. I never WORKED on speed but when I felt my body work athletic as it supposed to do i seen my speed and distance goes up. Risking injury for distance is not worth it
Does Drew have a work out plan to keep our bodies in good shape in order to gain and maintain speed?
Is it just me or did I miss the in-depth explanation of parts 3 and 4 for the speed training? I thought parts 1 and 2 were explained well but the transition/downswing portions aren't clear to me.
LMFAO Ian..."their is defiantly a little coordination required.....I'm still in stage 1 and 2..." Yes my friend....this swing technique takes time and lots of practice; mind you without hurting oneself in doing it. In short, have patient and Proceed with caution.
The only thing to consider possibly is your equipment. If you've been fitted, chances are you may need to relook at your shaft choice. If you're making big changes to transition and how you "offend" the shaft, then it may become hard to square the face if the shaft no longer has the right profile.
