Please please please listen to Potions by Puscifer. It’s such a heart wrenching song, snd shows yet another side to Puscifer. Also Trent Reznor had a hand in the song, and imho, the influence makes it outstanding.
I've always felt Puscifer was the experimental part of Maynards repertoire. So many remixes and unique soundscapes throughout Puscifer's albums.
Conditions of my Parole was Puscifer’s first true album. Everything before this was more or less EPs and remixes. Maynard and Matt Mitchell (guitarist and winery vineyard manager) are the 2 main drivers of the musical sound. Maynard gives Matt 2 (usually off the wall) instruments to come up with the musical compilation for an album. Then Maynard writes lyrics and Corina (3rd permanent member) writes backup and fill in musical.
Gotta watch the live version of this on Letterman with guest solo by Paul Schaffer and Maynard in costume. It's awesome. Letterman loved it.
Maynard and Adam can be seen on the set of Mr. Show!!!
It premiered 11/3/95 and also later on showed the first instance of PUSCIFER only as an interview!
Maynard is in only a couple of the skits, but you can recognize him by his Mohawk!

Can’t wait to see you guys check out some of Puscifer’s live stuff. You’ll understand quickly the biggest difference in Puscifer and other groups Maynard’s in. Puscifer is much more theatrical.BTW, that’s Billie D and Hildy Berger (both characters) on the cover. You’ll find out more about the characters as you dive deeper in Puscifer.

Just like tool, if you're going to dive into Puscifer, I'd suggest starting at the beginning and working your way through the albums. It's different but soooo good.
You'll love them. Just don't try to compare them to tool. They are completely different, their live shows are amazing. Lots of videos on UA-cam

He's done so many crazy videos. Have you ever seen the movie bikini bandits? Maynard plays Satan in it. Horrible movie but kind of stupid funny. Watched it a long time ago when I first went down a Tool/MJK rabbit hole.

I've always felt Tool was the band he put his pain and anxiety into. A Perfect Circle is actually Billy Howerdel's band. It has a more mainstream pop feel without actually being mainstream. Puscifer is all Maynard and wherever his creative juices flow Puscifer goes with. Every album is on its own and there is no quintessential Puscifer song.

This is a crazy journey, when I first started listening to them my reaction was, Maynard is doing a lot of hallucinagenics down in Arizona... But there is no box you can put them in, they're just Puscifer.
Puscifer is a a creative outlet for Maynard, he can do different kinds of sounding music, from rockabilly, electronic, rock, or whatever direction the songs take it.

Remember Maynard spent a great deal of his adolescence in a comedy group doing improv type shows. The man is creative in so many ways, he is friggin’ hilarious also.

you guys having fun and laughing is right on. there are webs of comedy and sincerity and if you are not having fun listening then you aren't listening. so they weave jokes in between their work; anyone who takes the music too seriously is missing a step. appreciate them and y'all for that. kudos.
You gotta follow the story line of Billy D (the character Maynard portrays on the front of the album). Watch the video for this song you will get a glimpse. It’s an ongoing character that he plays with and the most recent appearance of Billy D was the last live stream of Money Shot. Puscifer is a more theatrical side of Maynard. He used to play a character named Puscifer on Mr.Show back in the day. You will really like the song he does with Mila Jovovich called The Mission.
Maynard writes all the lyrics for Puscifer. Carina alludes to how he writes for Puscifer and it’s completely different from how Tool does it.

Tool was first, the APC, followed by Puscifer. Puscifer is whatever he wants it to be, songs run the whole gamut where he's almost rapping into the weird and crazy recesses of his mind. He built a studio at his vineyard so he could record whenever he gets an idea.
Much like tool....the deeper you dive, the better it gets! Here with ya for the journey!

Welcome to the Wide, Weird, Wild, and Wacky World of Maynard. Tool came first in the late 80's early 90's, then Puscifer in 95, then A Perfect Circle in 2005. APC was formed as a supergroup of Maynard, Paz Lechantin (the girl in the Judith video, originally of the Pixies -- the group that wrote the song that plays in the final sequence of Fight Club), Troy Van Leeuwen (of Failure and Queens of the Stone Age), and Josh Freese (of The Vandals, Devo, Guns N' Roses, Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, and a whole ton else). Tim Alexander (of Primus) and Twiggy Ramirez (Jeordie White of Marilyn Manson) have also been members and associates of APC over the years.
Puscifer is Maynard's band for ideas that don't fit elsewhere. Personally, I think of Puscifer in three different eras, so far. The first era was more industrial-influenced, like REV 22:20 (featured in the Underworld soundtrack), The Undertaker (Renholder Mix) (from the Underworld Evolution soundtrack), and The Mission (featuring Milla Jovovich -- yes, Leeloo from Fifth Element and the main character of the Resident Evil movies). The standouts of this era to me are REV 22:20, The Mission, Polar Bear, Dozo (Live at The Pearl), The Undertaker (Renholder Mix), and Sour Grapes.
The Second era is the straight-forward era, with the Conditions of My Parole and Money Shot albums, along with most of the V is for Vagina album.
The Third era is the current one, with the synth-heavy release of Existential Reckoning. This new release is excellent, if a bit different from his previous stuff.
TL;DR: Puscifer is excellent and I'm looking forward to you exploring Maynard's catalogue.

A "Mozambique" is a tripletap. Essentially it's a song about an attempted spousal murder, and Maynard and Co. performed it on Letterman. Legend.

A lot of the music from what I know is based of off the sounds that mat Mitchell produces. He creates a concept for albumn from an instrument and the band creates the sound and ideas based of a lot of that. It's an incredibly collabrative project where art itself is the driving force. So gooood for the spirit and your fellow bandmates. Love it.

All is these bands are amazing and top notch with different sounds from one another but also have different sounds from within the bands themselves which provides awesome perspectives of the musicianship and it certainly takes you on a ride each time. 😎

Puscifer's sound is all over the place lots of their songs are different styles of music Puscifer is in a Genre of their own. They also have different alternative versions of lots of their songs.

You guys NEED to listen to Ayreon! Probably one of, if not THE best Prog rock bands ever. They're a massive music project made from several musicians from different Bands who are all working together to tell a massive science fiction story over 7 albums.
SEVEN ALBUMS of Prog Power Metal Opera about a dieing alien race, the origins of humanity, and the aliens trying to save humanity from destruction.
The big thing though is if you listen to the songs out of order it won't make too much sense.

YOU MUST WATCH PUSCIFER MUSIC VIDEOS! Unlike Tool, the videos tell a story and establish characters in the Puscifer universe. The video for this one especially!
Timeline: Tool then A Perfect Circle then Puscifer, then they all blend together due to various delays and obligations.
Puscifer was MJK alone, then he slowly added a band around him. Currently it's MJK, Mat Mitchell (guitars) and Carina Round (vocals, keys) and a bunch of supporting musicians.
This single Conditions of My Parole is off the album of the same name. This album also has The Humbling River on it but lots of Puscifer songs appear on lots of different albums, EPs, etc and there's usually at least one remix album from MJK's friends for each album they put out.
A Perfect Circle was started by Tool's guitar tech (Billy Howerdel) and he recruited MJK to help write lyrics and sing. Other than those two, the only permanent member was James Iha from Smashing Pumpkins.
Humbling river isn’t on this album. It’s on C is for...
