This song is based off of where he lives. Jerome, AZ and surrounding desert. The Verde river etc. He fell in love the beauty of our state. Has his vineyards, produces his wines etc.
This song became apparently clear once visiting his vineyard, and Jerome Arizona in general

@@krislars3852 Yes sir, been there. I live in Phoenix. Jerome really is a gem. And him being there, his businesses have done a lot of good for that area and the locals. Jobs, heightened tourism.

The Verde River runs through AZ. It wasn't easy getting grapes to grow in the area and my guess is Maynard is thanking the major contributing body of water to his vineyard.
Same with the yearly blessing or non blessing of the Southwest monsoons. He fell in love with our desert, stayed and made it work.
I think this one is about him being a journeyman and wanderer most of his life. This is about him finding an attachment to his vineyard in Arizona. The nearby river giving life to his land and him finally feeling at home. There are several songs like this on the album. Have you done Horizans yet? So touching.
I’m sure it’s been said , but this to me is the story of a man that went somewhere on intuition, but was finally accepted by the power of land itself after the man proved his worth. Dude moved to Arizona on a spiritual prompting. After weighing his worth, “she” whispered you can stay. And he did btw.
Hearing Green Valley live just sends tingles up your spine .
Tiny Monsters, the opening track on this album is absolutely mind-blowing. As is the rest of the album. As is every Puscifer album. As in basically everything Maynard touches. 👍🏻
I always thought this song was about his journey trying to wrangle the Arizona desert to grow his wine grapes. The Verde River runs right near his town. And Farmers come and go but, if you don't learn the tricks on how to work with mother nature out there, then you don't make it. So you're a stranger until you respect the Verde River wether during floods or drought and her power over you.
In interviews, that and the quirky locals, the desert he said what made him fall in love and stayed. So many Puscifer songs are inspired by his experiences in Jerome AZ and surrounding deserts.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE the drop on this and the haunting, beautiful backup vocals of Corina🔥

His winery (and I believe his vineyard) are in the AZ Verde Valley. Listening to all these songs driving through Sedona to Jerome makes the journey even more awe inspiring

I used to live in Prescott AZ and I’ve been to Jerome where he lives, a very small town. I think he’s singing about how you are a stranger to the land until you understand how to live with it and thrive with it. I think he’s talking about when you go anywhere you need to grow to coexist with the land symbiotically, rather than in a destructive way.
Time to do some Carina Round (female vocals) her solo stuff is pretty fire. Do "Sit Tight" it is sooooo good.

This song is about the verde river here in AZ near where he lives. Had a great 🍄 trip there back in the 90’s with my friends and family. This song hits different for me 😊

Y’all gotta listen to the pusifer live album. It’s called This is Pusifer. These songs are outstanding in a kinda stripped down unplugged versions but it’s not all acoustic. You won’t be disappointed.

Some believe that this song is about Gary Ridgeway the serial killer of the Green River (washington). But I don't think so the only things that link this song to that person is the name of the song Green Valley and the fact that "verde" means "green" in spanish.. pretty slim.

I used to live in Flagstaff, about an hour and a half from Jerome where Maynard lives. Wine farm. Verde river is around the same area. Camp Verde, Middle Verde, and the Verde river flows through there...🤔

One of my all time fav Puscifer songs! Loved this album so much, my wife and I took a vacay to Arizona just to see some of the landmarks he references in the album.
The Verde River is by his house near Jerome AZ, near Cottonwood AZ

Y'all don't have any Warren Zevon on your channel. Why not? Warren was edgy AF way back in the day. Y'all should react to Warren Zevon , "My Shit's Fucked Up ". His lyrics sounded like something Hunter S. Thompson would write about in a novel. He was trying to get his final song recorded before his death. It was called "Keep Me In Your Hearts For Awhile ". Eddie Vedder does a beautiful rendition of it when they're doing a tribute to Warren. Both Warren's and Vedder's version are cool.

You guys were right that this songs lyrics aren’t that deep. Verde River goes through Flagstaff, near Jerome,AZ (where MJK’s vineyard is). The song is about the helpless relationship between man and Mother Nature. His vineyard relies on the water from Verde River.
check the live version on What Is.... kinda puts the album recording to shame, though it of course has it's charms.
This song and Grand Canyon are just songs about Arizona. It takes a certain type of person to live in northern az.
I really like your videos guys, I've been listening to Tool since the 90's when I bought Ænima just because the cover that had a lenticular effect caught my attention. Hearing it blew my mind, since then I have waited for each album like the messiah.

Great album. I have to start buying the physical copies of albums again before this digital blackout happens....you think I'm joking.
It *might* be about something spiritual, but I'm pretty sure it's literally about the Verde River in Arizona and probably has something to do with the history of how people settled in that area of the country. Perhaps some early settlers had to travel the length of the river (or something like that). I think this because Maynard's vineyard is right next to the Verde, and when he first started there were a lot of naysayers who said it couldn't be done, wasn't worth it, the grapes would be too bitter, etc... So, Maynard himself had to "weigh his worth" in a sense vs the terrain of the region. To my mind, that seems like a reasonable source of inspiration.

When you guys eventually do By and Down by A perfect circle, can you please do the original version first? It's just called By and Down as opposed to By and Down the River on the eat the elephant album. They're both good, but the first version had a lot more emotion in my opinion that didn't quite translate over onto the album version
My personal favorite version of By and Down is from the Stone and Echo tour. There's so much more feeling in it.
I'd recommend the live version at Red Rocks. Imo it's so much better than the studio version. I've never heard the original tho.
