      John Moses Browning was a Genius who didn't make mistakes. The 25acp aka 6.35mm Browning was successfully used by Military and Police all over the world for 100 years. In the USA it was used by Undercover Agents and Police Detectives all the way until the late 1980's. Don't dismiss the 25acp! WHO-TEE-WHO!

    I was an EMT for 30 years in an inner city. I responded to many shooting incidents. The majority of fatal incidents were from 22lr's. The other most noticeable thing about them was very little blood on the scene. That is death was almost instant. When your heart stops you have no blood pressure so bleeding stops. You can challenge the statistics all you like. That type of personal experience can wake you up to how lethal the 22lr really is.

    Considering the 22lr was designed for long barrels, as was probably the 22mag, this performance is telling. 25 acp ammo is typically full jacket (there may be hollow point out there). Also, the 25 was designed for short barrels, and is 25% heavier. When you consider the rimfire ammo is less expensive than the 25, I would personally load my pistol with stingers, and go for it.

    The main purpose of .25acp was to get similar velocity and power to .22 in a short pistol barrel (velocities quoted for .22 are usually from 16" barrels), also to get better cycling reliability in semiautomatic pistols with the rimless case and more consistent ignition from the center-fire primer. Now, .22 rimfire cartridges have come a long *looooooong* way from the rounds and firearms of a century and some ago so the advantages are arguable.

    Being a gun enthusiast here in the UK, we cant have semi auto centre fire since we had a mass shooting or two and they were banned. We can however have 22 magnum in semi auto so I am getting an AR15 semi auto chambered in 22 wmr and perhaps a 223 upper side charger...or maybe just a 308 x bolt....or maybe all three. 22 magnum will be accurate out to 200 yards, the 223 out to 500 and the 308 out to 1000 yards so I am covered. We can also have centre fire revolvers with a long barrel so a 44 magnum has to be in the safe as the 44 is the one gun Ive always wanted to shoot being a Dirty Harry nut. We have to jump through a lot of hoops to get into firearms here but its a fun thing to do so worth it. Sadly we cant use them for self defense, unless you are a criminal in which case you can have any gun you like and shoot whoever you like, where ever you like. Nice to see the laws are working and are only keeping the guns out of the hands of reasonable gun owners f******* a******

    Nice review. The rounds are comparable in my opinion with a slight nod to the 22 mag. However, I have one of those old Beretta 950 BS and I carry it when I can't conceal anything larger. The thing about the Beretta (not the round per se) is that it carries 8 +1. The North American Arms has 5 rounds, has to be cocked manually every time, and has a funky trigger. The 950 BS is a real gun. While I wish it were 22 mag, I like the extra rounds and the mechanics of the firearm itself. Just saying. Molon Labe.

    Enjoyed your video.
    Considering all the deer that have been one-shot jacklighted with the .22lr, I think it's effectiveness is apparent.
    Only place I disagree with you is that rimfire ammo "goes off 99% of the time".
    At times, certain manufacturers have so sped up production that some lots of rimfire ammo ignition was very unreliable.
    I learned early on to buy enough from the same lot ( CCI or Federal mainly) to practice accuracy , including unsighted "from the hip" to establish it's sure to fire reliability.
    And then to load only from that lot in my self defense .22rf.
    Takes at least 500rds. Storage is critical too.
    In places like Arizona, it's no big deal, but in Florida for instance the seep into anything humidity can turn good cartridges into worthless ones.
    There is no seal between the bullet and the case, so obviously keep oil also away from them.
    The most unreliable .22rf ammo I have experienced is Remington (many misfires and bullets so loose in case as to cause bullet/case separation resulting in jammed weapon when firing), Winchester, and Aguila.
    A .22rf revolver can be had in 9shot, and in case of a misfire, instantly presents a fresh round.
    With semi-autos, some are so small, it's easy to carry a backup to the backup.
    Treat your magazines with TLC. Any slight distortion that maybe you cannot even see if you should drop it, can jam your pistol.
    And pray you never HAVE to shoot anyone.

    • @Dontgetenslaved
      @Dontgetenslaved 2 роки тому

      I've had nothing but good experience with Remington and aguila. Aguila standard is my go to for shooting suppressed. I may get a dud every 5 out of a box of 500. Not bad for target ammo. I've had less duds from Remington lately. Winchester on the other hand, total garbage. It just isn't bad primer, it's bad all around. Just look at my short I uploaded and youll see what I'm saying. If you carry anything, cci is in the top but you will still have a failure maybe 1/1000 if you're lucky.

    I'm a former Mil Leo, and would offer a couple of observations. I personally know of one backwoods type fellow that was arrested/convicted for illegally harvesting quite a few ELK with a 22 mag. Also, I had occasion to have dealings with a few godfather type 'enforcers', the most successful of which (i.e. number of completed 'paint jobs') believe it or not, utilized a .22 automatic that fired 22 shorts (he was adept at concealed firing through clothing, in public crowds) As for the .25, the only person I ever met personally that used one, was an agency field man for whom they had built what appeared to be a metal fountain pen (it actually did write), but it also would fire a .25 frangible bullet out of a concealed steel barrel inside the pen by means of a spring loaded striker. I was told that his particular model was a more modern version of one that had originally been machined up by the armorer's in the old OSS of WWII. This was a 'contact' type weapon that quite literally enabled one to 'reach out and touch someone':)

My usual carry is either a Sig P938 9mm pocket pistol really or a bigger Glock 27 40 cal that I only carry when its cold outside & its easy to hide with a hoodie. Occasionally, I will carry my NAA with FMJ 22 mag loads. Not to brag, but I am damn good with that NAA. I trained the hell out of myself for 3 months with that NAA. Goal was to shoot at 5 yds,,,with ONE hand only,,hit a paper pie plate,, all five shots in 3 seconds or less on target plate. I did achieve my goal after many rounds but only with right hand. I can shoot OK with my left, but less coordinated, and way slower. I have complete confidence in my ability to stop a mugger using only my NAA. I did not work nearly as much with the Beretta (the NAA I bought 20 years ago and the Beretta 3 years ago) but I have 8 plus 1 in addition to an extra magazine which makes the Beretta a better mouse gun in my opinion....that is, if you have practiced a lot and shoot it accurately. It's barely any bigger, holds nine rounds and is double action besides. I honestly think that in short barrels, modern 22 lr. is the equal of or superior in terminal performance to 22 Mag. Also, I've always been surprised at the penetration powers of .25 acp. It's an under rated cartridge. It could be loaded to much better ballistics these days.

    Real world - my old dept during my tenure there had some folks DRT (Dead Right There) from .25 acp to the noggin. I've seen the results of several suicide instant deaths (I mean DRT, just dropped and didn't move) from a .22 LR from a pistol either in the head or chest. Mind you, I've seen a guy seated in a chair with a huge hunk out of his chest from a contact or near contact wound with 12 ga. 00B and a shredded lung who was able to talk to us and explain what happened. Also a guy with a .38 +p through and through the head who was speaking well, laughing, etc. .22 LR and .25 acp (and for that matter high speed .22 shorts) from comparable barrel lengths do about the same thing. I don't remember ever seeing a wound from a .22 mag but others tell me can do a wee bit more (something akin to .32 acp or so) but much depends on bullet construction. ALL normal handgun rounds (absent the heavy magnums) pretty much just punch a hole similar to shoving a piece of similar sized drill rod through their body. Hollow points (again, absent the really big stuff) don't do that much more but they do help mitigate downrange problems and wild ricochets.
    I have definitely carried .22s, .22 mags, and .25s as BUGs and often enough as primary if I can't hide anything else. Ideal? Nope, I much prefer a hi-cap 9 or .40 or even better a snubby .44 magnum. But the realities of life mean sometimes compromises have to me made. Bad guys generally don't want to get shot with anything. On the rare tough guy, any of those you tested will reach the vitals, and probably the central nervous system too. Any gun generally beats no gun and .22/.22mag/.25acp have been dropping bad guys for a long time.

A 125 gr 38+p (the old Rem semijacketed HP) did very well on a contact chest shot. Through the rib plate and blew out the left side of the heart. Only a slight trickle of blood too. Happened to see the autopsy after taking the report. Only autopsy i ever saw. Anyway, shot placement is important.

    The .22 LR tends to “keyhole” out of the NAA revolvers, this could explain the wound channel. Same reason the .22 Mag showed an increase in wounding later in its track, the bullets want to tumble and go base first as the base has more mass.

    • @ckim6400
      @ckim6400 4 роки тому +3

      Mine have never keyholed. The bullet certainly has a good chance of tumbling inside a soft target. 5.56 mm and 5.7 X 28 mm are great rounds for tumbling and that's where they create massive damage.

      C Kim I have heard of others with this issue and my .22LR does (not magnum however). With the intended usage of these little guns it is not really a bad thing if it does. It maybe ammo related too 🤷‍♂️ I might check that out sometime.

    • @larrywhalen127
      @larrywhalen127 4 роки тому +1

      These bullets do not tumble per se when shot/come out of the barrel's muzzle, but upon impact will then tumble due to the characteristics of the bullet which then causes the massive wounds due to the high velocity of the light bullet which is used.
      This has been explained time and time again, but apparently has never quite sunk in.
      Best example I can offer is, how does a bullet which is "tumbling" manage to have a half minute of angle group at one hundred yards (?).
      I own and shoot a 5.56 rifle and at 100, 250, and 500 yards all my bullets do is leave a small perfectly round hole in my target, and when shooting armor piercing rounds, they are still nice and round holes, but look like a .30 cal was used - had to check my target to make sure it was my round that left a hole that big.

    My first gun was a Beretta Jetfire (.25 ACP). Mine, however, did not have the safety switch like yours does. While it was a beautiful little gun, I didn't feel like I could reliably thumb-cock the hammer in a life or death situation (tiny grip, tiny hammer, heavy springs), and without a safety, I couldn't safely carry it cocked and locked. Likewise, the incredibly HEAVY recoil springs made it almost impossible to rack the slide, so chamber-empty carry wasn't really feasible either. The sights were also nearly impossible to use. I got a beautiful Kramer pocket holster for it, but I found that the barrel release latch tended to get activated on the draw, which popped the barrel open and sent my first round flying. I also had some ridiculous malfunctions at the range, and when this thing malfs, it malfs HARD (as in, it takes two people to try to unjam it). So I ended up selling it to buy another gun (Kel-Tec P32 or NAA mini revolver... can't remember which). While I never really liked this gun, I do wish I had kept it just because it was a beautiful little work of art.

    For those doubting the reliability of rim fire stuff, I've carried a .22lr as an EDC before, and do often when I need something lighter than my .45, and as a back up. When it comes to the reliability of rim fire cartridges, I find that you get what you pay for. If you buy bulk, you're bound and determined to get some misfires, due to them jostling about in the box freely, and knocking the primer loose. If you buy a brand that uses a captive box, you know, the plastic with holes in rows of 5, those don't jostle the rounds as much, keeping the primer in the rim, therefore keeping the ammunition much more reliable. Just my $0.02. Hope everyone is doing well, and Cheers who-tee, hope you and your family are safe and healthy too!😷😎

    I thought the mag would go thru but i didnt think bout them being shot outta the little guns. I always wanted a 25 just for the fun of it.

    A lot of us old veterans carry a little 22 or pistol for self defense most of the time. If your not defending yourself against a bear its about right.

    Thanks for the info! Very surprised that the 22 mag didn't perform better. I have carried the Beretta 950BS since 1989 and always wondered how it compared to these other types. You are the only you tuber and gun writer to perform these tests. Very re-assuring to know 25ACP is comparable to the others.

    Cool video. Personally my small concealed gun is Taurus Spectrum 380. I liked your Spectrum its so light and easy to carry I forget its there. I was surprised by the results. My guess was the 22mag would go out the back. Still if I had to carry one of those 3 it would be 22mag.

      Looks like you had better luck with your Spectrum than I have mine. Bought it new at the gun store 2 days ago. It worked for about 10 seconds before the extractor disappeared! I was fit to be tied!

      You mean PMR25. Trying to get those last 5 rounds into the mag without denting the cases is impossible.

    The 3 are adequate, especially if you have a semi-auto. A nice 18" rifle/carbine will get mushrooming speeds making the .22 LR HP a reasonable self defense gun.
