    Are you as excited as me about this new 17mm f/0.95 lens from Zhongyi (Mitakon)? What other f/0.95 lens do you want to see from Zhongyi?

      If they could get their 42.5 f1.2 lens updated to have an f.95 that would be great. Maybe a wide angle too.

      I would really like the whole 35mm (35 Sony, 23mm Fuji, 17mm MFT) equivalent Lineup like they did with the 50mm f0.95 (resp. 50mm Sony, 35mm Fuji, 25mm MFT)

    I received it today. Looks and feels like a $1000 lens ! I’m very impressed with the quality of the construction and the creamy bokeh with that dreamy look. The center sharpness wide open is totally acceptable, beyond my expectations. The focus and diaphragm rings are butter smooth. It’s hefty but I like the stable feels it gives me shooting handheld at longer exposures. I’m very happy. Thank you Richard.

    I got the silver version today(was 100€ less than black) Some things I noticed: aperture ring does not have clicks, the lens barrel does extend some millimeters between focus ring and aperture ring when focusing. You can see this in your video too. And sadly the silver version doesn't look good on the G9. I would need a silver camera for this lens. Or i'll get the black version after testing it. First shots of my kids look good!

    Hey Richard, I'm a bit late to the game here. But... to me the lens has something of a vintage/70s look to it. As you said, more character than technical perfection. I'd love to know what you think of this vs its other 17mm competition. I was eyeballing the TTArtisan 17/1.4, which is selling for half the price of this Mitakon. I know that lens isn't perfect wide open either. But according to reviews its good by f/2, which is the same f-stop you feel the Mitikon looks good. So with 2 limited exceptions, there seems to be no benefit. The exceptions are when you are willing to sacrifice image quality for heavy duty bokeh. And when you are shooting in total darkness and need that .95 (though I think I read it didn't seem to actually let in as much light as it should at .95).

    • @TheRealRichardWong
      @TheRealRichardWong  Рік тому +1

      hey Lance, between this and TTArtisan 17 1.4, i prefer the Zhongyi, not really this is a "better" lens just because it has more character or i like this lens's character more. The TTArtisan is a lot cheaper on the other hand so better vaue for money

    I have the Speedmaster Dark Knight edition. I use it on Sony. Its biggest problem is build quality. I prefer the Voigtländer 0.95 on MFT as it feels better in the hand. Both lenses are soft wide open. Most interesting is to compare it to the Noctilux. The Noctilux is sharper in the center and has better contrast but the Speedmaster is sharper at the edges. It means that the Noctilux is far superior for portrait, but the Speedmaster is superior for landscape. The Voigtländer has an interesting character, and like the Noctilux is very well suited to black and white, and is an incredible sharp street lens from f2, with quite a dreamy effect at faster apertures. The Speedmaster doesn’t give me the same feeling of excitement. It is the sort of lens that goes best with foggy mornings, or in the forest, and similar sorts of places.

      hi Marcin, thank you! At f/4-f/8 i found most lenses these days perform very similar that's why i usually not testing them at those aperture much in my reviews.
      I would usually mention something if i found the sharpness is still not good at f/4 . these two lenses both perform quite well at those aperture settings from memory, if there is any differences it would be quite marginally :)

    • @TheRealRichardWong

      If you actually like a manual focus lens (I think they make the process more involved and interesting) then get the mitakon. If you are more in a rush or do street photography and want to nail particular moments then the autofocus is a life saver (although, yes, back in the days they all used manual lenses .. but it takes a lot more practice)
