My dad had this exact car when I was a kid, same color and everything. I had 6 siblings and we used to fight for the rear facing seats. And I do remember flipping people off.
It takes a special type of person to get exited about these old cars that were never that exciting to begin with. Thanks for making them interesting now!
When my grandmom passed she left me her 96 taurus sedan. I daily drove it for years it was a great car. Definitely Fords oval phase, ovals everywhere on it. Great cruiser.
I used to have a 95 Taurus sedan with only 89k miles and was such a reliable car also with the same Vulcan engine and was pretty peppy for what it was.
Taurus Jelly Bean Wagon is a cool find. Personally I would not do a Macco paint job. (They always end up looking like crap...their prep work sucks). Get the car mechanically sorted and detailed and send it. If anything get a body shop to respray the clear coat. Glad you caught a break on it.
Every single one of these I've ever seen has the dash pad peeling up. My parent's Taurus did the same thing (theirs was a '98) before they sold it in 2005. These cars have some of the coldest AC I've ever felt. Feels like you're skydiving in Antarctica.
I have to say I don’t know how you have done a video a day with few exceptions for years. I tried it for 3 months and it was hard as heck. I respect your hustle man🤘

This is a very early build 96 Taurus. They only used that fabric pattern for a few months. It was changed to a solid color and they gave bonuses to sales people to sell the older ones.
What a gem! I am a wagon lover from way back. I don't need it, but I may be interested in it. Was with Ford as a service manager and shop foreman in Tulsa through the '90's and the 3.0 engine is a good one. Keep us posted.
The issue with the transmission in these and other Fords is that the transmission needs a fluid flush and change every 40-45K. The clutches tend to gunk up as the fluid ages and breaks down. I had a Taurus, a Windstar and a Crown Vic and the transmissions in all three suffered from trans issues at about that mileage.
Randy, not a bad ride. Airbag needs a clock spring, and you can fix the door ajar/dome light always on concern by hosing the door latches down with WD 40. VERY common Ford issue...cheap and easy fix!
I had a 97 sable bought in 2002 with 70k KM on the odometer. Exact similar look of the same Taurus. It was very good for the for first three years and then the metal pipes started leaking one by one eventually replaced with rubber hoses. Solid car. Congratulations randy
I really like these underrated cars. My relatives had 3 Taurus, an 86 with the 5 spd, an 88 and a 97. I almost got a 2011 SEL in 2016 but it was priced a bit higher than what I was willing to pay back then.Hope you get a good profit with it Randy, looking forward to seeing the paint job
Push the button surrounding the key hole and depress the release under the window latch. I think your talking about the RB 383 engine in the Dodge or Desoto that you bought.
I love how you take on cars and trucks that most people don't even look at and give them a second chance in life. You fill a special niche in the UA-cam world of auto rebuilds.

Yeah I got a 98 Taurus, it’s a good car but starting to get real rusty. All those bubble Taurus’s had that problem with the dash coming unglued. Mine is the same way above the instrument cluster
I drive a 2000 Taurus wagon in great condition. (I know its not a big deal, but it works.) I noticed this video about an older wagon and to my surprise its Randy in Oklahoma and no Mike on this one. You have been doing this longer than I thought and keep up the good work. Note: Who cares what the haters think or say about your cars, lifestyle, or anything. They are just jealous and not willing to put the time and effort making a channel on UA-cam. But they have no issue taking two seconds to be rude. Keep up the hard work, sorry about your uncle, keep the memories alive and he is never forgotten. In 99 my mom bought a BRAND NEW red Taurus wagon. That was the ONLY brand new car she ever bought. And it’s the first car I drive in after being adopted in Russia and flown back home
Randy, I can see your vision for this Taurus wagon! This must have belonged to someone older without children to destroy the interior. Looking forward to seeing the old girl painted. : )
Many years ago I toured across Canada opening for BB KING, and we had 2 of those wagons, one Mercury, one Ford. I think the direction you turn the key is the way to open the rear window.
My grandma bought one of these are in option two years ago we loved that car so so much lasted forever it ran great low miles we paid $570 cash for it best car we ever bought sadly it was totaled about a year ago now she has a nice focus but still miss that car
Press the exterior key lock if I recall right and that'll pop the glass hatch only. I learned to drive in part on a bubble 96 Taurus wagon and then bought a 99 Sable wagon as one of my first work vehicles, soft spot for these wagons!
This was the first car I ever owned, year and wagon except mine was gold. Bought it with 87K and traded in with 112K. Started giving me issues with age but to be expected. I put all those miles on it in the two years that I had it and it served me plenty well. You got a smoking deal on this car, love to see more content with it!
I had a 2003 we call their lumpy was a fantastic station wagon and could haul anything I needed to bed the body rotted out before I could keep us and I paid $3500 for that vehicle and had head 70000 miles in the body was in excellent shape before took krapp and I drove it Until it ride it out I had over a 197000 miles on it and drove it through slush and everything else though station wagons have a big following you should get good money for it no questions asked
I am thoroughly jealous of you. My dad had a '97 sedan and ever since we got rid of it in 2010, I've wanted to have one again.. this one looks almost perfect, clear coat failure and all.
Usually when the turn signals do that it is a ground problem not hard to find or fix I’m sure the flasher is fine. My car did the same thing and it was the ground. But my car was a impala
Working hard, Randy. Don't burn yourself out. Love watching you and Mike rescuing these ol' beaters and giving them a new life. Don't worry about the order your videos come out - all we worry about is each car story having a beginning, a middle and an end.
In 1997 I bought that same car but with the styled wheels. If I would have known about the LX engine, I would have opted for that model. Anyways, the same night I bought the car I drove it on a 3 hour trip. I lost all the lighting on the right side of the car. I mean the headlight, marker lights and turn signals. I was driving through a dark desert with lights on one side of the car. It was a "fun" trip. When I took it back to the dealer the next day, they told me the steering column had sliced through the wiring harness causing that issue. They installed a new harness and I was good to go. I love the wagon in this color.
Good find Randy! Those old Tauruses were pretty good cars, I remember a friend of mine's dad owned 3 of them; 1993 Wagon, 2001 Sedan and the last one a 2005 or 06 Sedan and he loved them! All 3 of them had the Vulcan V6... He told me the Automatic transmissions are good to up to 100,000 miles before they break... This car should sell for an easy $3500-5000.00... GL!
Airbag light is flashing Code 12, which is low or no voltage to the airbag control module. I think it's under the right kick panel, and you need to disconnect the battery, then unplug the harness from the airbag controller, clean the pins and harness really good, and that *should* clear the light. Might take 3 or more cold-start driving cycles to clear.
I like that Taurus Randy, if you were close to Connecticut I would love to have it as a second car. Cold War Motors up in Canada is a collector of those old 50's Dodges, check him out. Also how about using double face auto body trim tape to stick that dash pad down.
This car was in my family when I was growing up and I can tell you the rear glass opens by pushing the keyhole on the tailgate in. It was supposed to be a hidden trick, but it was so hidden that later models got a label instructing how to do it
The button for the back window is where you put the key in to unlock the back door Press the whole lock cylinder in your license plate was probably covering it up
Good buy. This car was probably taken care of. Clean interior. Congratulations. Good car for a young family with kids. Even though I am not a fan of this Taurus body style, I would buy it. I believe the other car is a Desoto. Always liked the Desoto.
I liked the Taurus and Sable wagons better than the sedans back then. Great buy Randy. I don't think you'll have any issue selling it. Thanks for all the hard work man!
Taurus Third Gen 1996-1999. Yes, the rear hatch window does open. Push that button that has the keyhole in it. If you want to open the whole hatch, pull on that recessed handle just above the license plate behind that plastic
I had a 2003 SEL station wagon. /w the 2.5, I really liked it back then, had no power under 2500 rpm, but it was good until I got T-boned, love side airbags, nice to see one again, thanks
I spent a couple of months in Canada in the late 80s and hired the saloon version of that car, I loved it, we still have nothing like that here in England. our Fords back then were known as Dagenham Dustbins as the rotted so bad. For you folks to have a 96 in that condition has me green with envy., give her a new paint job and she will be well loved once again.
Hey Randy, I learned many years ago when buying a vehicle to look at the tyres first, and if they match then look at the rest, history body work motor and transmission!!! Paint it and send it over to Mike great flip car man
Station wagons are pretty common here in Germany. We call them "Kombi", which is an abbreviation of "Kombinationslimusine". I've had a turn signal relay that failed like this. Just replaced it and the turn signals worked fine ever since.
Randy I think you will be surprised at how many ppl will be interested in the wagon. I also think that you should start out at 2750.00. You can always come down but it's hard to go up..
To open the back glass.....push the keyhole button on the back door just above the reverse light on the passenger side it may push a little hard......i had the exact same car same color I loved wish I never got rid of it
Painted and detailed that wagon will appeal to more people than you think with that low of mileage. As a mechanic I absolutely hated the early Taurus. The heater cores were a &%$#@ to R&R. Flat rate was 8hrs or so if done by the book. There were short cuts to cut that time in half.
That back window should open with the same handle that opens the hatch. Pull it half way and then lift up on the glass. It should be like a 2 in one handle. My parents had one when I was little and that was my seat back there
Loved my Taurus! Had a 97' trim level G, the lowest possible! Uncle donated it to me with a rod knock. Was able to get 20k miles out of her before she seized up! Man the nostalgia!
'59 Dodge! drove my dad's to and from school for a couple of years in high school. urs had every option but the radio and automatic headlight dimmer. Loved the push button automatic and the chicklet style speedometer!
I got a Maaco paint job on an '89 LeBaron convertible years ago. They did a nice job, no overspray. Only problem is the quality of the paint for $600. It was red and after year or so it if it rained and then the sun came out, there would be pink spots in the red. Shell out a few extra bucks and get a good quality paint.
Another nice, low mileage Taurus. A lot of people may find them boring, but if you get one with a solid history they seem to be pretty decent cars, largely cheap to own which is why companies liked them, and it should do someone a good turn for as long as they need it, if they take reasonable care over it. Plus, with these cars having been so common at one point, they tend to disappear pretty rapidly so I'd lay pretty decent odds that one of those is now a pretty rare car, like mk1 and 2 Mondeos are in the UK. That one should be an absolute score, and the flasher unit should be a very cheap and easy swap, once you've worked out where the hell it is in the electrical system as Ford, during that period, liked to put them in strange places. If I was going to guess, I'd say on the back of the fuse box under the dash, as that was one of their favourites back then... I suspect the rear hatch glass opens from the key lock on the tailgate. I would imagine it turns one way to release the tailgate and the other way to release the glass...
I like the Taurus Wagon I think there will be a lot of interested buyers for that because of it being a wagon Ask 2750 I don't think you would have any problem at all getting 2500 especially with upgraded paint nice find
The rear window opens by pushing the key button where your tag is at. Remove your tag and push the button in where you unlock the rear hatch. I had a Mercury Sable shaped and made just like your Tarus wagon.😉
My dad had this exact car when I was a kid, same color and everything. I had 6 siblings and we used to fight for the rear facing seats. And I do remember flipping people off.
It takes a special type of person to get exited about these old cars that were never that exciting to begin with. Thanks for making them interesting now!

Back glass open by the remote Key also there should be a button in the glovebox and looking at the flashing airbag light is code 12
You actually can also press the keyhole in it like a button to open that piece in the rear.
I used to have a 95 Taurus sedan with only 89k miles and was such a reliable car also with the same Vulcan engine and was pretty peppy for what it was.
Definitely was a grandparents car, always maintained and taken care of.

That’s amazing! Even pieces bound to be broken are not on this one! That plastic flap is broken on practically every one!
The hatch popper is right on the back tail light above the license plate, your dealer plate was covering the button though.
The 90's era Taurus were great cars.

There are micro switches in the doors that like to fail and keep the door ajar light on even though they are closed.
The switches are in the door lock actuators. The good news with thousands of Taurus's that were produced, they are easy to find in wrecking yards.

Not a bad car, used one in Germany and it was fast and sure footed on the Autobahn. If possible, save the Liberty....thanks for the videos.
That back window should open with the same handle that opens the hatch. Pull it half way and then lift up on the glass. It should be like a 2 in one handle. My parents had one when I was little and that was my seat back there
I think the keyhole on the hatch pushes in, to pop open the rear glass.
Preferred the later style but always liked these old wagons.
Me and the wife have had 4 taurus sedans. Always good reliable cars and always wanted a wagon! May have to know when this is up for sale.
Mum had one in purple. I used to love riding in the trunk as a kid facing backwards!
I'll get a nice one myself one day.
I like This Taurus stationwagon and the color too after a paint job ita gonna be much better thanks Randy
I had a ford Tarus 4 door. Loved the car. Had a few issues like the power brakes. Had to replace all 4 struts. Wish I still had it.
thanks for the video Randy. Taurus Wagon is a good one. Have an awesome day
I like the Taurus Wagon I think there will be a lot of interested buyers for that because of it being a wagon
Ask 2750 I don't think you would have any problem at all getting 2500 especially with upgraded paint nice find
The rear window opens by pushing the key button where your tag is at.
Remove your tag and push the button in where you unlock the rear hatch.
I had a Mercury Sable shaped and made just like your Tarus wagon.😉
