  • The Beauty of the Hebrew Scriptures is their authentic reflection of the failures of its own people.
We need to pick this habit back up...
The Church here in America and abroad has whitewashed the pretty ugly History of our Church. Here Nijay K Gupta helps us see the value of "keeping it real" when it comes to the history of the earliest followers of Jesus.

Jesus YOU ARE MY STRENGTH. Lord please bless my children both are special needs, heal them Lord. I’m overwhelmed because I’m on my own as a single mother I have no one to turn to, but you Heavenly Father. Give me strength as I struggle to buy groceries, and as I struggle to pay rent, and as I struggle to do it all for my sons. Keep us safe and protect us from the evil ones of this world. Amen.💕

It was a very difficult beginning. Most of the Early Church members were not perfect because it was all new to them. The first churches were attended by Jews who were brought up in the literal Law of Moses, and non-Jews who had absolutely no notion of God. The Jews had a lot to relearn how to correctly interpret the Mosaïc Law, and the non-Jews had to adopt holy lifestyles and learn doctrines completely foreign to them through the original Apostles.

This is a really good point. We, the church, have this sort of mystical view that because these people were closer in time to when Jesus was around and went through such trials that they were some how less human and challenged than we are. We see it is not true plain as day in our NT letters but some how we just don’t make that connection. Even the fact that we call the first 300 YEARS, early is insane. The church in the fourth century is as close to Jesus in time as I am to George Washington and I don’t have any special knowledge because of that proximity in time. That is indeed a very humbling reminder to always be refreshing ourselves by the word of scripture, to apply God’s word in each context in which His people find themselves and not allow certain contexts to be privileged over another in authority and perspective.

Slavery was a different issue in many ways during the early church than it is perceived now because of the slavery in America & England. The slavery in America & England was terribly sinful, that’s not so about most slavery in the early church.

Enslaving another human in any form in any capacity at any time in the entire history of the world is WRONG

@@ringthembells143 do you understand the various types of slavery (servitude) that are discussed in the OT & NT? Like I’ve already said, the slavery that we know of in modern times is evil. To insert our modern understanding into scripture pollutes what scripture is saying.

@@ringthembells143 Again, cause I don’t think you’re understanding my point; I’m not saying slavery is good, my point is that God never said to not have slaves or to free all slaves in the OT or NT. We must interpret those scriptures as they were understood by the original audience before we can understand their meaning to us today, which doesn’t mean they promote the right of people to enslave others. It wasn’t a bad thing, as Nijay Gupta states. It was how society worked from the OT thru NT times.
That being said, how do you explain this inspired word from God to His chosen people?
Lev 25:44-46 (ESV): 44 As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you. 45 You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their clans that are with you, who have been born in your land, and they may be your property. 46 You may bequeath them to your sons after you to inherit as a possession forever. You may make slaves of them, but over your brothers the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another ruthlessly.

Allot of peculiar name dropping sure goes on on this channel. I really distrust many of your references which is sending up too many red flags. There are allot of brilliant beings in this world that speak mostly truth with questionable intentions.

Automatically you defend the pastor, and your system is corrupt. You pollute the pool and defend the unrighteous. The Laity suffers because none of you do anything Jesus say.

For real! I’m not down to learn from a racist. That’s a core principal that should be extinguished by a proper understanding of the gospel. Even worse only three of the church fathers Knew Hebrew. This is a big deal and leads me to believe that we had a deviation from the Jewish roots early on inside our church history. But by the grace of God overtime we have a resurgence of the true biblical narrative which the fathers for the most part missed… in my humble opinion✌️🔔❤️
