David's dancing was an outward expression of praising the Lord,it was done in the right context, dancing for the Lord in the right context is not wrong at all but one should not do so in a disruptive or provocative manner since God is a God of order,it is tricky to differentiate between dancing motivated by the Lord and his presence and dancing motivated by the flesh especially when the music is good,God judges both our actions and motives, we should check our motives when dancing for the Lord and make sure that our motive is to honor and glorify Jesus, when praising keep your mind focused on the Lord

But the socalled worldy dance with external music, lighgts, and smoke with a pop culture is what the bible is against. Nowhere in Scripture is worship ever depicted as being done to music, song or dance. Praise is, but praise isn't worship.
The basic meaning of the Hebrew verb שָׁחָה (shachah), which appears 172 times in the Old Testament and is translated 96 times as 'worship' in the RSV is 'to bow down', or 'to prostrate oneself', before God, a monarch or a superior. In the Septuagint, the corresponding Greek verb is προσκυνέω (proskuneó). Unsurprisingly, the verb for worship in the New Testament is προσκυνέω (proskuneó), which appears 60 times, with the basic meaning 'to kiss the ground when prostrating oneself' before God, a monarch or a superior.
It's really hard to sing, play music, or dance, with your face planted on the ground in humble reverence.
People can't just take anything they dream up, inflict it on God, and expect Him to accept it as worship. Nadab and Abihu probably thought their hearts were in the right place (Leviticus 10:1-2), but look at what happened to them.
God determines the rules for how He will be worshipped, not us - and especially not whatever carnality some people have the gall to call being spirit-led.

I don't want eyes on me, but I silently talk to God and say, "It's You and me," meaning I'm not putting on a show for anyone. It's just me and Him. Sometimes I'll even just close my eyes and sway.

Tod Friel hasn't got a clue! Tod claimed to have some Bible verses on worship, then confronted Voddie with a passage that had _nothing_ to do with worship.
    *2 Samuel **6:14*
_David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod._
But David's dancing isn't said to have had anything to do with worship - all the context depicts is David's joyful celebration along with Israel at large - as the context makes inescapable clear:
    *2 Samuel 6:5*
_And David and all the house of Israel were making merry before the LORD with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals._
In other words, they were partying, not worshiping.

Praise, worship, blessing, thanksgiving, and prayer are all quite different things and we can't simply foist whatever we want on God and expect Him to accept it as whatever we choose to call it. Christians should learn what the biblical meanings are, rather than imposing modern redefinitions them. These words in Scripture have very specific meanings and, when it comes to our interactions with God, we disregard those meanings to our cost - perhaps even to our peril.
For example, Psalm 5:7; 22:7; 29:2; 66:4; 95:6; 96:9; 97:7; 99:5, 9; 102:22; 106:19; & 132:7 are about worship, whilst all of Psalm 150 is about praise, and doesn't even mention worship. Indeed, there are more references to praise in Psalm 150 than there are references to worship in the entire Book of Psalms. Hardly surprising given that the Hebrew title for the book תהילים (tehillim) basically means 'praises' - as does the Greek title, ψαλμός (psalmos). Psalm 95 differentiates thanksgiving, praise and worship
What is commonly passed off as worship today has nothing to do with a Scriptural understanding of worship, or even of praise. Jesus summed up the problem:
_This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the precepts of men._ (Matthew 15:8-9)
If one isn't doing what Scripture calls worship, then one isn't doing what Jesus said God requires of us:
_God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth._ (John 4:24)
Simply throwing the word 'worship' or 'praise' into a song or declaration doesn't make it worship or praise. Likewise, singing _about_ worship and praise isn't the same as _doing_ worship and praise. Many of the songs sung to God in churches today are a blend of praise, blessing and thanksgiving, even prayer at times, but they're not _worship._
You can't just take anything you or someone else dream up, inflict it on God, and expect Him to accept it as worship.
God determines the rules for how He will be worshipped, not us - and especially not whatever carnality some people have the gall to call being spirit-led.
The main verb for worship in the New Testament is προσκυνέω (proskuneó), which appears 60 times, with the basic meaning 'to kiss the ground when prostrating oneself' before God, a monarch or a superior.
The Old and New Testament view of worship is one that combines the humble, reverential, attitude of mind and body in homage. This is something rarely seen in churches today. Nowhere in Scripture does worship ever have anything to do with music, singing or dancing. Indeed, anyone who pays attention to what the Hebrew and Greek words mean and describe would recognize in an instant the implausibility of a worshipper doing any of those things while worshiping. Psalm 95:6 typifies the physical posture attending worship:
_O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!_
When was the last time you were on church and God was worshipped this way?
One thing worship is not is cavorting about the place making a spectacle of oneself. Those who engage in such activity typically try to defend dancing as a form of worship on the basis of 2 Samuel 6:14:
_David danced before the LORD with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod._
But David's dancing isn't said to have had anything to do with _worship_ - all the context depicts is David's joyful celebration along with Israel at large - as is plainly stated in 2 Samuel 6:5:
_And David and all the house of Israel were making merry before the LORD with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals._
In other words, they were partying, not worshiping.
    There are 112 references to worship in the Old Testament. There isn't a single mention of worship involving singing, music, or dance in any of them! See, for example: Genesis 24:26, 48; Exodus 4:31; 12:27; 33:10; 34:8; Deuteronomy 26:10; Joshua 5:14; Judges 7:15; 1 Samuel 1:3, 19, 28; 15:25, 30-31; 2 Samuel 12:20; 15:8, 32; 2 Kings 5:18; 18:22; 1 Chronicles 16:29; 29:20; 2 Chronicles 7:3; 20:18; 29:28-30; Nehemiah 8:6; 9:3, 6; Job 1:20; Psalm 5:7; 22:7; 29:2; 66:4; 95:6; 96:9; 97:7; 99:5, 9; 102:22; 106:19; 132:7, etc.
Praise, however, is often associated with singing, making music, and dancing:
    *Music*
    1 Chronicles 23:5; 25:3; 2 Chronicles 5:13; 7:6; Ezra 3:10; Psalm 33:2; 43:4; 71:22; 98:5; 150:3-5
    *Singing (55 times)*
    2 Samuel 22:4; 22:50; 1 Chronicles 16:9; 2 Chronicles 5:13; 20:21-22; 28:30; 30:21; Nehemiah 22:46; Psalm 7:17; 9:2, 11; 18:49; 31:13; 47:6-7
    *Dancing*
    Psalm 149:3; 150:4
Given that the Greek and Hebrew words used for worship in the Bible describe people bowing down and prostrating themselves, ask yourself how anyone would have been making music using the kinds of instruments they had back then, let alone singing and dancing, at the same time as they're worshiping.
Some advocates of the unbiblical activities they pass off as worship try to defend their position by claiming worship and praise, for example, are synonyms and that the Hebrew and Greek words mean the same thing. But there is good reason for there not being a single instance of the Hebrew verb שָׁחָה (shachah) or the Greek verb προσκυνέω (proskuneó) being translated as 'praise' or of the Hebrew verb הָלַל (halal) or the Greek verb ἔπαινος (epainos) being translated as 'worship' anywhere in Scripture: because they describe entirely different things.

I also can't help but see a racial undertone to this. The Reformed/Calvanist is traditionally European and Male. In contrast, the black church (& brown) has long been demonized for our more expressive worship styles, specifically by certain white faith traditions, not because its actually wrong but because it does not fit their cultural preference. This is something to take note of, especially because Christianity is not a European faith. I think Calvanists often forget that God is also Spirit and supernatural in addition to caring about theology.

This is highly religious and wrong to say dancing in church is not Biblical. Psalm 149:3 says to dance to God. Exodus 15:20-21 they danced to God. Psalm 150:4 says to dance to God during praise and worship. David danced to God. It doesn’t say God was upset at his dancing it says his wife was, much like the reformed. Ecclesiastes 3:4 says there’s a time to dance. Is that just for weddings? We have a spiritual wedding to prepare for. The entire Bible associates dancing with joy Lamentations 5:15, psalms 30:11-12. So joy is associated with dancing. Psalms 100 says to worship God with a joyful noise. It associates joy with worshipping Him in His presence. Psalm 98:4 says to make a joyful noise to Him. Again joy associated with worship and joy again has been associated with dancing.
Beware of strict teachers who are Pharisees who strain a gnat. They take a tiny issue and make it a big one and put heavy burdens on people. Don’t listen to rocks my friends unless you want to worship God like a spiritually dead rock. Obey the Bible and dance and don’t listen to these two men who are confused. There's only one reason why I believe adding dancing to the order of worship is not appropriate is simply because the church we have in the new testament didn't do it. Simple!
David wasn't in a church, the temple under the old and not the New Testament. Jesus himself didn't dance while he was on earth..

I'm noticing a concerning pattern. The church has become so overrun by liscentiousness, that now a lot of teachers are pulling so far away thay they're bordering or crossing into legalism. We see all these "pastors" saying "Do whatever you want! God understands!" and we recoil and correctly discern that to be wrong, but in our efforts to "not fall victim" to liscentiousness, we stray into legalism. I think it's a good reminder that it's not any better to be a Pharisee than it is a Prostitute. It's just as serious of a sin to put extra-biblical restrictions on people as it is to encourage people to sin. Isaiah 29:13 "The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught"

@AdamFontenet-iy3tb Because it's not sound Biblical discipleship if it isn't rooted in the Scriptures. Paul absolutely discusses things that are not allowed in church, not once does he ban dancing. It would be solid Biblical discipleship if the word of God commanded us to obstain from dancing in church, but it doesn't haha So people who take that position have no Biblical ground to stand on, they are simply imposing their own feelings on the Church. I am not saying I think dancing in church is great, but what I am saying is that we have freedom in Christ and it is legalism to put man-made, unbiblical rules on other believers based solely on your own personal feelings.
I would say we all have to pray for discernment and be willing to accept the truth, regardless of if it agrees with our position or not.

You it’s funny how people can always find justification to do something without God’s approval. Who is the number 1 worshipper of all time? Who worshipped God the absolute correct way without blemishes. Right the Son of God. But, we are going to imitate a form of worship from a man who was a murder and adulterer. I see why most Christians can’t overcome sin. The Bible says follow and mark the perfect and upright. How about following Jesus Christ as our model of worship. He never dance, ran or laughed out load, screamed, and every other type of emotional behavior. The way of the cross is a changed mind, not emotionalism. I feel sorry for this weak and perverse generation. They hate scripture, they exult personal relationships over the truth of God’s word. Every thing with this generation is what I personally believe and my convictions. Let all you be liars and the Bible truth. God said, he is looking for true worshippers, not form and fashion. “If the Spirit falls on you” please, that’s the music and the charisma of the singer and preacher. Soon as some of you get a bad report, all the dancing go out the window, soon as your money dry up , where is the Spirit now? Your spouse cheats on, kids disrespect you, your whole life is a mess, God can’t pay you to dance. Going to church saying pray for me. Emotionalism has no power over Satan, dancing has no power over the dark things in this world. But a change mind. God wants your obedience not your emotional outburst.
The land is sick because of all this foolishness in America. Same sex on a all time high, public schools teaching kids about pornography, the government is crooked. And you all talking David dance. And where did that get David, sadly since this event in David life, you see a slow downward decline of David. He numbers the people, which the Lord hated, he married multiple wives, which the Lord said not for the king to do. None of his children were raise godly, we know the story of Uriah and how his own son conspired against him, and the list goes on and on. David life did not end how it started. I am not going in on David, I am making a point, you don’t look to men on how God is to be worship unless they are perfect and upright. Look to Jesus, the Author and finisher of your faith.
What if David would had built the temple without asking God. So is everyone that give God worship he never asked for. Start with seek you first his righteousness and trust me, that is move than a dance or praise. Holiness or Hell…you decide

When in reality, dancing is a permitted act of worship by God. Every time I went up to the alter, to "dance", it NEVER felt real. Same goes for slaying in the spirit. The relationship between Jesus and I seems to be more focused and serving.
Thing is a lot of Christian think there's a one sized fits all relationship with Jesus when in reality Jesus know exactly how to win everyone's hearts. Personally. Just Jesus and you.

If you kneel and throw your hands up, then wonderful. Do what you want to worship the Lord. The problem lies where people feel they have to do something because everyone else is doing it.
