One additional tip. I found I really do not care for some of the vibrant pinks and orange shades in several eyeshadow pallets. I decided to use them as blushes instead! They can even be crushed down and one color blended in with another to customize the shades

I hate throwing away good makeup, so I love these hacks.
I have two more that work for me: Sometimes it works if you mix too dark foundation with a bit of a light concealer.
I mix too light blush with some translucent powder to get a light pink brightening powder for my under eye area.

Thanks Jen for suggesting us these tricks to “fix” our products instead of just buying a new one! I only want to add that with a green pigment mixer, it’s possible to have basically any foundation ( or concealer ), to work for olive skin tone !

A green color correcting primer will work as well! I have fair olive skin and this trick is a life saver for me! LA Colors makes one that works great and I find it at Dollar Tree. I figured it was a great way to see if it would work and the formula is very nice as a mixer!

As I’m watching this video I’m using a mascara hack of mine. Sometimes if I don’t love the formula of a mascara but I really like the brush applicator, I switch the applicator out with a mascara that I love the formula of. This way I get the best of both worlds. It totally works great!

Using oil as a primer, just on the dryer areas of your face before using a drying foundation works really well too. Because I do this, one of my worst foundations became one of my favorites.

Too-dark lipstick trick!! I’m pretty fair and have the same issues with most lipsticks looking shockingly dark on me. My trick is an SPF zinc-based lip balm that actually leaves a slight white cast. I layer it on top of the dark lipstick with a swipe and it keeps the opacity of the lipstick and also protects the lips! Lips are often overlooked for sun protection too so an unexpected upgrade tip☀️

Thank you, Jen!! Most influencers don't bother to talk about this kind of thing, and I think we all need it, and we're going to need it even more if we're really headed toward a recession soon . . . .time to get some mileage out of the stuff we're all sleeping on!
I actually kind of like playing around with products when they don't work perfectly. First of all, I usually try to diagnose what the problem was, and then try to figure out if there's some other use I can find for a product; unless I paid over 20 bucks for it, I"m not returning something. Also, I was a teenager in the 80s, when we had extremely limited options, and we had to get creative and learn to use our makeup in unorthodox ways. I experimented a lot with contouring and sculpting my face in all kinds of crazy ways on weeknights in my bathroom because I had time in my hands. I'm sure it looked chalky and weird but I think we all did back then . . . . .
Also I'm so over the throw and go disposable attitude that the makeup companies cultivate with their customers; they know what they're doing. There's already planned obsolescence in the constant rotation of colors and palettes for seasons, plus every couple of years there's a big overhaul in the way we're supposed to do everything. It encourages the "aw, just throw it away" mentality that results in so much waste in packaging and products. I understand that it's difficult to make cosmetics both attractively packaged to the eye *and* ecologically sensible, and I love a brand new sleek lipstick tube as much as the next girl. I probably hold onto some things longer than I should, but I keep everything clean and take good care of it.
Thanks again for your thoughtful content. You're one of the few beauty influencers I bother to watch anymore . . . .

Thanks Jen...great tips! I've also used setting spray to thin out liquid foundation. Like you, I'll just mix it together on my hand. Also if a lipstick is too light you can line your lips with a slightly darker lip pencil and then kind of blend that color into your lips..apply the lipstick and blend it into the darker lip liner. Once blended it looks seamless, you don't want to actually see the liner

These hacks were awesome! I learned several new ideas from this! I especially liked the highlighter and blush hacks! One hack I discovered was using a cream blush that is dark to stain your lips before applying balm. It makes the lip look like you woke up that way and it lasts a really long time. I use the ND Bloom palette, the red shade the most. It slight dryness really adheres and stains beautifully. The second is for cleaning brushes. Instead of cleaning them individually I group them with similar sizes and densities, I then swirl them all at the same time, rinse in tandem and then individually squeeze out the ends. The best brush cleaner I have found is a bar of Zote laundry detergent (Walmart, $3). It works amazingly and keeps the bristles soft! :)

Great video! I have several foundations that did not work for me for various reasons. I combined roughly equal amounts of them into a bottle with a dropper shook it up and applied like usual, it worked out perfectly! Beautiful color match, coverage and longevity! I love the finish too! Also I had a big problem with mascara smudging on me. The best tip I ever saw was from another UA-cam video where she simply applied clear mascara over mascara. It works like a dream for me! I can slice onions and it has yet to smear my mascara!

    • @Trudence2
      @Trudence2 Рік тому

@@tammakeuptime3741 Yes I just apply my mascara as usual, let it dry and apply a clear mascara over it, let it dry and you are good to go. I have used several different clear mascaras. Currently I am using one by Wet n Wild that works fine. The best one for me has been a dual ended clear mascara and brow gel from ELF, but any clear mascara would probably work well.

Fantastic video! Thank you! One thing I've been doing to repurpose bronzers and powders is to use my darker summer shades that don't work for me in the winter down my neck over moisturizer. It looks more natural than applying foundation on the neck to make the face and neck match. Also with lipsticks that are too dark or bright for me, I put them on when I start my skin care. Once I'm done with my makeup and hair and everything, I wipe them off. They make a great lip stain and then I put either a nude lipstick or lip gloss over my lips.

I never realized just how cool my skin is. Which makes sense because I have all this red in my t zone area that I struggle to cover up. But w some sort f my foundations I have that aren’t quite right I have L’Oréal True match in cool 3 and 4. I add that to my neutral foundations. It’s awesome. True Match is an amazing foundation. I add that Essence glow serum stuff (the watermelon stuff) to foundations to make heavier foundations glide on better. I find it better than using an oil.

Amazing vid as always Jen! Love your vlogmas series. For cream bronzers that are too warm/orange, I add a little green corrector - turns it into a more contour shade. If I have a bunch of eye shadows that are too colourful, I mix them all together into a separate pan, add some 70% alcohol and end up with a nice one-and-done brown / taupe shade

The Ulta mineral tinted face lotion doubles up as a beautiful matte foundation, but it’s really drying. I agree, adding a few drops of facial oil helps a lot and doesn’t change the finish. That sunscreen is a hidden gem. Dark/light glosses over dark/light lipsticks has also saved many lipsticks from the trash.

Something to make it absorb sounds worth trying.

Something I love doing with an inexpensive eyeshadow palette that maybe doesn't work great is scrape some of the pigment onto a mixing plate & mix it with inglot duraline to use it as liner for graphic liner, or for lips for interesting colors or lip art! Inglot is a little pricey, so this can be done with any mixing medium!

    I'd love more hack videos.
My personal favourite hack is one for lazy People: find an eyeshadow palette that has colours you can use for your whole face; I love grabbing one palette and using it for shadow, blush, bronzer and highlighter. It's also a very travel friendly tip. There are plenty of palettes that can be used for that, no need to search for a face palette.

Thos are excellent makeup advice. I have 2 tips to share 1) I use the nyx liquid BROW pen (lift & snatch) as my actual eyeliner since the tip is so much finer than the felt/brush tip for eyeliner, I can draw super fine lines on my thin hooded lids 2) If my lipstick is color is too intense, too matt or too dark, I rub some of my cream highlighter over it to tone it down while gives it a slight shimmer.

Great video! I got some great ideas from this! I have a few to add... For dark lipstick you can just blot it on with your fingers to make it more like a stain. It's way more subtle than a full-on application. Using a tubing or waterproof mascara on the lower lashes will prevent smudging on me. It's usually not the upper lashes that cause me issues, but the lower ones. I also add contour and darker cream blushes under my foundation for a subtle, but pretty, look. Then I use a too-light blush powder to top it off. It's long- lasting that way too (like you mentioned as well). If you think liquid liner is too harsh, dot it in-between the lashes for definition and a super long-wearing effect. Green primer is a great mixer for foundation for olive skin. You can turn any creamy lipstick into a matte one with a little translucent powder. You can mix it on your hand before applying or just add a little on top. Muted plumb blush makes a great bronzer for olive skin or if bronzer always look orange on your skin tone no matter how cool-toned it is.

I am terrible at picking a foundation if I'm buying from a brand I've never tried. So I have resigned myself to spending twice the money and buying 2. So that if one is too light or too dark, I can just mix them. I've been doing it for years. Usually the first one I choose is too light. I have never thought about mixing it with a cream bronzer. Genius. Also, most foundations are too warm for me and tend to go very yellow. There are more neutrals than there are cooks, so that's what I usually end up having to get. I will pick up some if the blue LA Girl mixing liquid! That is going to grow the fiundations that I am able to wear by at least 50% . Thank you so much for all of this incredible information!
