Glenn Close Breaks Down Her Career, from 'Fatal Attraction' to '101 Dalmatians' | Vanity Fair - Розваги
Her in 101 Dalmatians is an example of Disney doing a live action remake correctly
So true! Does the first Pirates of the Caribbean count too? It was technically a 'remake' of the theme park attraction!
May be we will say the same thing about other remakes 20 years later
yeah, they did a good live action movie way before the trend of bad live actions movies
Exactly.

The list of Glenn Close's works in films is a strong proof that Oscar has never been the measure of real talent.
oscars is the grammys for actors and actresses
Lets talk about Gwyneth Paltrow?
Agreed
They nominated her 8 times but they can't let her win because the OSCARs was too jealous of her acting abilities. ✨✨
Many iconic actors who never won an Oscar, and many mediocre ones who did.
All these little children crying about giving DiCaprio an Oscar, meanwhile people like Glenn Close and Willem Dafoe don’t have one
@@EJY318 no win, but he’s been nominated a couple times the past few years
And Amy Adams
Its almost as bad as the Emmys with Susan Lucci
19 times she was nominated and she killed in her role in all my children
Agree! & Michelle Pfeiffer
Now that's a crime
I love how she defended Alex Forrester. Way before it was cool, she acknowledged how it was important to understand mental illness and not vilify people who suffer.
ua-cam.com/video/4x07YnEVIGY/v-deo.html
I’m so grateful for her insight in the character
She's very serious about social understanding of mental illnesses. She did a symposium tour a few years ago where she discussed her own family history with it.. My friend had tickets and invited me to go. It was very enlightening, for instance, I had no idea her parents had joined a cult during her childhood; she was lovely and so very gracious during the meet/greet photo ops afterwards. It was a great evening and I always smile when the photo comes up in my memories.
@@dainty_af oh wow. That sounds amazing! Thank you for sharing that
I understand the mental illness part, but what the character did was not ok
She did such a beautiful job with Cruella. As a child, I couldn’t tell the difference between her and the cartoon. I never thought she was an actress playing a role. I thought, “Oh my God, that IS Cruella! She actually exists!” Thank you for the memories.
Yo me too
I always loved her as Cruella, she was my favorite characters in the movie.
Her evil Cruella laugh once frightened a child, who then burst into tears, but afterwards she felt so bad, because her laugh was so scary for very young children
Can we have like, 3 hours of Glenn speaking of her career? Virtually every role deserved an Oscar
When she teared up talking about Christopher Reeve got me 😢
Ur dog is so cute.
@@MARCIE12ification Thank you!
I agree 😥
strange she didn't for Robin Williams, though
Ladies and Gentlemen: Behold The DEFINITION of.... " AN ILLUSTRIOUS CAREER". Give this woman her flowers!!!
Give this woman an Oscar already, she should already have won it since 1996!
1st of All.. She SHOULD HAVE WON the Oscar for Fatal Attraction, She was SOOO ROBBED!!!! 2nd .. her Role as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway was a MASTERPIECE!!!!!! xoxoxo
Heard they may make it a movie 🤞🤞🤞
both times she played Norma on Broadway - so dumb that an actor can't get nominated for a Tony award for playing the same role twice. I really hope that Hollywood can get the film adaptation made before she is too old to play Norma! Fingers crossed!
ua-cam.com/video/4x07YnEVIGY/v-deo.html
Yes she definitely should have , what a film, one of my favourites!
How can a villian be this beautiful
She's not a villain. She's an actor.
She's a villain IRL. I was her waitress once. She's a horrible person and an alcoholic.
@@ImnotassweetasIusedtobe for real??

What a career she has had. Her portrayal of Cruella deVil will always be a favourite of mine. Emma Stone really has some big shoes to fill. Her performance in Fatal Attraction was just superb that line “I’m not going to be ignored, Dan!!!” The way she said it was incredible.
She says : ‘I’m not going to be ignored’
@@luisricardo13 edited it just realised that 🤦🏼♂️
Mmmmmmmmmm she was beautiful !
Well i guess emma did a pretty fine job as cruella but never as the same level of glenn
“You’re playing happy family, aren’t you?”
"I'm not gonna be IGNORED, Oscar!" - Most nominated actress / living actor without winning an Oscar...yet!
Oscar is wrong.
In a way,it's good for her,it makes her appart...everyone knows how talented she is.
A true legend. Hopefully she'll win the Oscar someday.
She's still so humble after all these years and always eager to learn about life and her craft. A real star.
SHE REALLY IS A LEGEND, SHE SHOULD HAVE WON OSCARS FOR FATAL ATTRACTION, DANGEROUS LIASSONS, ALBERT NOBBS, THE WIFE AND NEXT YEAR FOR HILLBILLY WITH AMY ADAMS
Exactly, add Garp and the Big Chill to the should have won an Oscar list
And again she didn't win , I dont want to demerit the actress who won it , but how can she have all this nominations and not had win any one of them, tells you a lot about the credibility of this awards
Given all the comments about the Oscars, I'll point out that Glenn Close is a stage star as well as a screen star and has won many of the biggest awards in theater, including THREE Tonys. She's also won multiple Emmy Awards.
And Golden Globes! 💜🤟🏻
Yeah at least those organizations know how to recognize greatness.
I feel like Glenn should have 5 Oscars by now. She's royalty.
It was absolutely riveting to hear her interpretation of her character in Fatal Attraction. I saw her passion about her character and also her understanding of how awful circumstances on an individual can shape the choices that they make in their life.
The way she talks about many of her roles just get me to tears (again and again) throughout this video. It really sounds like she's proud of each of her characters and truly empatize with them. Now I need to binge watch her career!
And the respect that she has for the people that she's worked with was so touching! What a legend!
I'm binging her career as well!

This woman is tragically under-known, under-rated, and under-awarded. I love her in everything she does and if she doesn't get an academy award for her role in Hillbilly Elegy then there is NO JUSTICE IN THIS WORLD.
She lost, there is indeed no justice in the world
You wanna tell me, that Cruella’s accent was inspired by PATSY STONE?! I love it 🥰
Patsy is iconic 🥂 The older I get the more I relate to her
RIGGGHHT!!!
Glenn Close in Dangerous Liaisons - maybe the best performance I've ever seen.
Yes, I really wish she had won for that. It was amazing. Her nuances, her decadence, her ending shot....perfect
Yes, for me the most spell-binding and unforgettable final scene ever. That’s when I decided Glenn Close was my favourite actress and still is today.
Agreed , she’s amazing
@@barbz99 she’s mine too, she’s fantastic 💜
Y E S !
I love when actors tell stories about other actors or uplift professionals in the industry like Glenn does here, she gives praises to costume makers, to hairdressers, she speaks highly of Christopher Reeves, it is a beautiful thing to see how much love one can give to others with just words.
I loved this interview.
This "Breaking Down a Career" is the one I have been waiting for. Ms. Close is one of the finest actors our country has. I just recently watched "Hillbilly Elegy". The movie triggered me terribly and when Mamaw (Close) spoke, my own grandmother came out of her mouth. I hope good things come of this performance. Good things. Gold things. Thank you Ms. Close for your artistry and honesty. XO
Albert Nobbs is one of the hidden gems of cinematography... Very difficult to watch, but so briliant...
I have always been a fan of Glenn Close, then I met her at a horse show in Vermont when her daughter was around 16. She was so gracious and kind. She is an amazing lady. I consider it a great honor to have met her.
Great to see her tackling on her career with such a wisdom and sense of humor.
I hope to see Anjelica Huston in a next video.
Jesus christ this woman should have won Oscars for Fatal Attraction and Albert Nobbs. Hope she wins this year just for being robbed for all those years.
AND Dangerous Liaisons - she is divine and heartbreaking in it!
Glen Close at the Academy Awards : "You nominate me, you invite me to the Awards ceremony, and then you give it to somebody else...I will not be ignored...!"
I don't want her to win for Hillbilly Elegy. I want her to win for Sunset Blvd.
@@abandonedfragmentofhope5415 I share your opinion! I want her to win so badly but not for Hillbilly Elegy😂 I am not a fan of that movie.
ua-cam.com/video/4x07YnEVIGY/v-deo.html
Finding out that Joanna Lumley was an inspiration for Glenn Close when she was creating Cruella made me happy.
I know - I couldn’t believe it!
i was gagged
@@williamhudson5278 and bound? Sounds like an adventure!
She is such a talented actress. Sadly, they did not cover my two favorite of her roles, “Sarah, Plain and Tall” and “The West Wing.”
I agree. The 'Sarah, Plain and Tall' trilogy was the last time I cared anything about Hallmark movies, and was amazing. And she shone in the West Wing, as well.
@Gabi B I'm afraid I haven't seen them, so I can't really judge.
Re: West Wing: I loved her shoes.
I'm an example of a kid who knows her for 101 Dalmatians lol She'll always be Cruella to me, even though I now know other movies she was in.
Why this woman still doesn't have an Oscar is beyond me, she is just incredible
Indeed
Sharon Stone too
@@xana5649 Sharon stone got an Oscar for the movie Cassino, supporting actress ( if I’m not wrong Glenn Close have a record for the actress with the most Oscar indications without ever actually getting it )
One of the best actresses we’ve ever had. Glenn is truly remarkable.
She was also great in "The House of the spirits", "Mary Reilly", "Cookie's Fortune" and "Paradise Road". Oh Gosh, She's always GREAT.
Reversal

Fortune
@@vapalaca Right! That movie was brilliant!
The Stone Boy she was in as well
I was blown away by her performance in Hilbilly Elegy, I really hope she wins an Oscar for it, it's long overdue.
What I love so much about Glenn is not only is she so skilled and incredible in her crafts, but she has so much love, appreciation and praise for the people she works with 💛
Glenn Close impersonating Katharine Hepburn is my spirit animal.
ua-cam.com/video/4x07YnEVIGY/v-deo.html
time stsmp?
Yep. Was cute and funny. She did it well
Dangerous Liaisons still stands up as an incredible film and an outstanding role for Glenn Close.
Glenn Close playing as Cruella DeVil is the 1990s version like Margaret Hamilton playing the Wicked Witch of the West. (The Wizard of Oz - 1939)
Yes I absolutely Agree
She clutched my heart when she became emotional over Christopher Reeve.
She mentioned Mars Attacks! SHE MENTIONED MARS ATTACKS!! I love that film so much.
She said what I was thinking after watching Fatal Attraction. She is not a villain, she’s the victim of the patriarchal system! She was damaged by her father and she looked for affection only, it was never her purposely hurting the family.
To this day because of this character this is my favorite movie.
But, did she have to kill that poor bunny?
Bunny was an attempt to be seen as a psychopath. She did something hideously vile and evil to show a message that she is able to do anything to Dan to get even/get what she wants.
When a mobster kills something, he’s shown as a badass gangster, but when a woman is boiling a pet in fury, nobody has any doubts that she’s mental? Think about It.
I’m not saying she is the saint, she has mental problems, but they are a cause of this treatment. She was never to good to be given love for more than a limited amount of time, cause guys like Dan had more important stuff going on - family. The most unfamiliar of things to her. Think about it.
i loved her so much in Damages and i can’t believe her accent as Cruella is based off of Patsy Stone 🤯 she’s one of the GREATS!
I fell in love with Glenn Close after seeing Dangerous Liaisons( I must have seen it at least 400 times), then watched every movie that I could find that she was in.
The RANGE. And a lifelong human rights activist. Truly an amazing woman 👏🏼
She and Amy Adams need their Oscars in 2021. Viola Davis might be the big competition though.
Yes. I hope Viola Davis wins Best Actress this year if Mulligan is not winning it.
Her career always seemed excellent, not struggling. Great choices and performances. A master class.
Glenn Close should have won an Oscar for The Wife. It was one of the most powerful performances I have seen.
An amazing career. 8 Oscar nominations and NO win is scandalous. 😡 seeing her live in Sunset Boulevard was a wonderful experience.
The first time I’ve seen Glenn close was when I watched “The House of Spirits” and she was just mesmerizing. Such good acting, she brought me to tears. And I’m not crying so easily. I love her so so much❤️
how many young actresses have oscars, and this woman does not in her long great career. how is that even possible
Competition used to be tough back then, although I consider her losing to cher is a joke, I think they just gave it to cher since they snubbed her for Mask.
I don't think she would won now since they're giving the oscar to the popular ones or the ones acting on biopics.
Because she didn't sleep with Harvey Weinstein
You don't need an oscar or an award to be a great actor or actress. Winning an award is and can be the greatest thing in the world. To see talented actors and movies win because it's deserved but over the years I hate how it's been turned into an absolute joke. It's become less about art and more about being a pretentious overpaid jackass
@@zairnermuller4960 Her losing to Cher was a HUGE JOKE!
@@n0kturna1 That too!
I have never heard an interview of Glenn Close, which now that I think about it is incredible.... Yes, I've loved her acting and her roles, but O.M.G. I LOVE HER as a person. She seems like my long lost friend. So genuine and humble and kind! WOW!
Wished she talked about "Stepford Wives," loved her in it!
I LOVE that she classifies Cruella as a witch! She got that archetype and delievered in spades!
An bigger-than-life villainess ever to grace the Disney films
The Marquise de Merteuil is one of my all time favorite villains, so iconic.
I'm so happy she loved being in Mars Attacks!!! I love the movie, it traumatized me as a kid, which is high praise. It seemed like a fun movie to be a part of, and I loved that she loved it too. Also her talking about Christopher reeves made me choke up a bit
And one of my favorites -- Jagged Edge with Jeff Bridges. Glenn is one of our greatest actors ... ever.
her portrayal of Cruella was _I C O N I C_
Edit: hearing her talk about Reeves and Williams made me tear up😭😭
Her performance as cruella was genuinely terrifying I was terrified of her but that shows how incredible an actress she is and I loved her cameo in Hook too
Me too, she used to scare me too, when I was a child, especially her laugh
9:08 That Glenn Close has seen Absolutely Fabulous makes me so happy
Cruella De Vil was my favorite role she did, though I'm surprised she didn't mention being the voice of Kala in Disney's Tarzan (his gorilla mother) :o
She based Cruella’s speech on Patsy Stone. Omg I’m dead. If Patsy was Cruella, I believe she would’ve gotten her puppy coat.
She is also a powerhouse in the Shield. Her character Monica Rawlings feels so real and lived in. I recently rewatched it, and (spoiler alert!):
Her stunned, desperate plea when she realizes she’s going to be fired as a scapegoat for the seizures, when she says she, ‘No one fought for me?!?’ but almost whispers it because of how much it hurts her has always broken my heart. She was a great captain and she deserved to have people fight for her.
Glenn Close is a treasure.
queen should have won an oscar by now!!
She deserves all the accolades in the world
Sharon Stone too
One of my FAVORITE actresses!!!! Love Glenn! Alfred Nobbs made her nearly unrecognizable in the best way. One of the best films to see her range. Hillbilly Elegy is another great role of hers. Wow. Just wow.
I absolutely LOVE Glenn. She's one of my favorite actresses ever. I loved as Cruella and of course Fatal Attraction, Damages, and The Wife.
I have loved Glenn Close since my teen years. Amazing actress! Loved Dangerous Liasons, Reversal of Fortune, Jagged Edge, Damages, etc...Sooo many amazing films!
Still can't believe Glenn Close doesn't have an Oscar. I'm sure she will win next time.
I wish you included Stepford Wives on this video, i love that movie and her character is so funny lmao
Hahahaahaha you're right that performance made me crack up with laughters all along
Lol yes the best.
What a wonderful person to listen to! Watching this I realise I remember how I was myself the first time I saw her films. Like good songs a good film hold personal emotional memories: The Big Chill [seen on the telly] first when I was a teenager, second this year much older now than the characters, Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liasons, 101 Dalmations, Jagged Edge [not mentioned here], Airforce One, The Wife. Wonderful, wonderful.
Saw Glenn in Sunset Boulevard on Broadway and got to meet her at the stage door. She was incredibly sweet and humble and her Norma Desmond was fantastic!
Not even 15 seconds into the video, and I'm already emotional. She is a true, genuine gem in the world of art.💙💙💙💙
Glenn is one of those actors that can morph in her characters to a point she become the character. Its so good to see that she is not affraid to be more or less elegant if the character demands.
Mi familia era muy fanática de ella, recuerdo haber ido a ver 101 dálmatas al cine, ver “Avión Presidencial” miles de veces, she’s so underrated, love her 🖤
Incredible ! I could watch a much longer version of it.
She is fascinating.
You forgot "The House of Spirits". Wonderful movie and wonderful performance of She.
What an underrated Gem and Queen! Loved her forever.
I love that Glenn gave us a talk on all the films listed above. Great job.
I loved the Sarah Plain and Tall book as a young teacher. I loved that she played that role when they made it for PBS.
She didn't comment about The House of Spirits , I adore this movie actually I love everything that Glenn does 😘❤️💞
That scene with Meryl in the tea room.. I still remember that
A very memorable job, rightly so! Her Ferula was an intense character!
I could watch her talk for hours about all of her roles! She clearly was proud of each and every one even if she was upset about how they changed the ending in Fatal Attraction which I totally agree with. Mental illness should not always mean that person is evil. They just need help. I personally believe she could've gotten her Oscar if they kept the original ending in!
Damages is one of my favorite shows. She and Rose Byrne, what fantastic chemistry. I think it's an underrated show. It was on Netflix for a while, if they put it back on, I'd rewatch the show.
excuse me, where is "the house of the spirits" in that timeline?! such a great movie, with an amazing cast with an extraordnary performance of glenn!
Hello Amadrie how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
Netflix can make her win an Oscar for Hillbilly Elegy, with the right campaign for Supporting Actress
She *absolutely* should have gotten an Academy Award for Best Actress in Fatal Attraction.
The grandma role in Hillbilly Elegy is extremely memorable. Great job. This is amazing interview
Thank you for this video
I'm Not Gonna Be Ignored, Dan
Wow she's obviously made amazing contributions to women in her films her roles are very diverse but she always plays strong female leads! The power she has! This woman deserves an oscar asap!
This channel's background picture is aoc omg I love it
My nickname as a child was Cruella,
I lived and breathed the live action of 101 Dalmatians. I love it and it gave me my love for Dalmatian print. My favourite film still to this day.
I really love that she knows all the people behind her entire career and who to thank to by mentioning it❤️
Reversal of Fortune is missing. Love that film!
One of my favorites of hers, which few know about, is “Paradise Road.” I was also raised with “Sarah Plain and Tall.” My favorite American actress :)
Also with Cate Blanchett and Frances McDormand. Great film.
This woman is a delight .
I never watch all through any of these actor career breakdowns. But i watched every minute of this.
She's brilliant. And clearly proud of her career
I'm an example of a kid who knows her for 101 Dalmatians lol She'll always be Cruella to me, even though I now know other movies she was in.

I agree.
Same here 😍
I honestly don't recall seeing other films she starred in. What are some of her best movies besides Dalmatians? (I will ALWAYS see her as Cruella too)
I also loved her in The Lion in Winter, her acting was just amazing!!!!
Oh yeah! Hard to find and mind blowing movie and performance, elsewhere she said she was very proud of that one and it ended up not being distributed in theatres. Incredible
She was also amazing in Sarah plain and tall
What about Ferula? Her part based upon an Isabel Allende's character, along with other great actors and actresses. I love that movie (the house of the spirits) and I love that part of hers.
I could listen to her talk for hours. Love her 🥰
Same, would have listened for hours
I love Glenn but I'm crushed they didn't include the Lion in Winter. It's my fav performance of hers 😭
