"Cruella is an awful person, she just happens to be fabulous"
Yess that sums it up so well
I read that as she said it-
All the best villains are; we know they're terrible people and their actions are deplorable but we can't help but enjoy them regardless, especially if the actors themselves are clearly enjoying the role. 🖤
In Disney she is awful villain
But in original book of cruella is tragic in the movie that are base in the original book.
Lol...
It's so insulting yet so complimenting omg
"descendants, the franchise that single-handedly killed ever after high" yes by stealing all of ever after high's concepts and then making shittier dolls
Then it's a good thing I've always preferred *Monster* High...🙃
Rest in peace sweetie, forever waiting for Mattel to continue the series
#bringbackeverafterhigh
I hope that she would do a video about Ever After High.
I mean they only stole the one huge concept
I actually really loved Cruella. Plus you gotta admit, that dumpster dress was insane.
That thing was looooooooooong
Great dress, that’d be so much fun to wear
very Galliano Dior
Absolutely beautiful
Well I think the one goes 0n car was amazing mesmerizing
The fact that Glenn Close got to keep all her Cruella wardrobe, iconic.
I would imagine a movie but starred by Glenn Close, Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep but they had the ‘sassy antagonistic auntie vibes’. I bet this movie would be a blockbuster hit!
The best Cruella is Glenn Close. She did an amazing performance.
_cause she’s freaking iconic_
And the costumes are the best the character has ever had
I agree with this statement
@@LadyAhro those costumes were to die for
True
Cruella is evil and should stay evil, because we love her for it. She's a stylish villain and that's all she needs to be. Some sort of tragic backstory for her isn't it.
This!!! Yes!!!!
That's it, she's that awful rich narcissistic lady who is so obsessed with glamour and fashion to the point where she does not see animals as living things, but as fur to dress herself. It's scary, but there are people and companies like these in the real world, and that's what makes her a great villain. The only backstory I accept for her to have is the story of how she was spoiled by her rich parents to the point where she thinks she can have anything she wants and take it by force. And that, combined with her inborn psychopathy, was what made her the villain she is.
literally. what’s more evil than wanting to skin puppies? she’s irredeemable and that’s the point - she’s a caricature villain for children’s media. we don’t need to know why she’s that way
Especially considering she is the descendant of a demon in the book. I would've loved for her to just be a psycho from the beginning
I actually liked the movie, I just felt like it didn't need to be related to 101 Dalmatians like at all. I don't get why she had to be "Cruella" it was so weird.. The Baroness was more Cruella than Cruella was
You know, there was a true story where a girl loved her dog so much that when it died she made it into a bag/purse, so that’d be an interesting twist.
Or it could be her dog died and she lost the body, so she gets obsessed with seeking out an identical dog to make something to remeber it by
This is what i thought so too.. people doesn't understand that Young Cruella is different from the Old Cruella.. she might have been the same as her mother when she grows older..
Btw.. not a murderer that kills humans with no remorse specially her own daughter.. but a dog killer instead..
@@thebernardoespinacovers6081
The thing is, I'd love to have that mindset towards Cruella 2021
But they've given us too much empathy for her in the 2021 film, it just makes it difficult to hate her for fun in 101 Dalmatians both animated & live actions
It's just really conflicting
so I just rather think of the 2021 Cruella Film as it's own universe or something.
@@TheeButterflee but she ends up being a villainess in the end of the story, implying that her in this timeline will match that of the original Cruella..
And they did not change her morals one bit, it kinda got worse through the storyline.. and i would expect that to even do so overtime and turn her like the original Cruella that she is.
She's the type of person that you can empathize, but she is not redeemable and let's keep it that way and not ignore the fact that she's still turning into a dog killer.
😭 that poor dog!!
Glenn Close as Cruella is literally like a cartoon come to life. Not only is her performance top notch, but the costumes are so perfect for her character!
Agreed! I have never seen anybody so dedicated like Glenn Close 🔥
Remember guys, Cruella is NOT a prequel to the 90's movies.
Ahhhhhh booo
I dont know why anyone would think that. At first glance I very much realized this is a "Maleficent" movie and the more I accepted that, the more I loved it. That is the main reason they made REFERENCES to the 90s movies, not CONNECTIONS, which is a huge huge difference
Still a prequel to the books. And though she isn’t the “bash and drown” of the movies, the plots the same. Cruella still kidnaps dogs to turn them into coats. And it’s confirmed that Cruella is at the least a prequel to the story from the book, not really the movie. No matter what incarnation this is a prequel too, Cruella always kidnaps dogs for their furs.
@@captainguyman7382 bruh literally have you seen the movie ? She kidnapped the dogs to take away her enemies 's most powerful weapon and fake it as she killed them for her coat - while actually she didn't kill a single dog at all. She even gave the dogs away for adoption and i kinda consider this movie as an entirely different universe from the original Cruella.
@@haiyenohoang8601 the animated movie? The original? Which one
By not showing Emma stone in furs in the movie even once Disney removed the most important aspect of cruella's character
And smoking
@@geraltofrivia7456 I was reading that there not aloud to smoke for Disney movies
Exactly!! If this was supposed to be an "origin" story then how come it doesn't explain her love for furs? that's literally the core aspect of her entire character. So disappointed, nothing can top Glenn Close.
"I live for fur, I worship fur." Guess Disney forgot about that little detail.
@@geraltofrivia7456 Smoking is banned from Disney films since early 2000's
Everyone who played cruella is just stunning
I agree, honestly the most true thing I've heard
@@benbenbus lol same
Glenn Close absolutely understood the assignment.
Once Upon a Time Cruella was low-key good. She looks like she stepped out of the original animated film
The wig was horrid though
She randomly got powers
The costuming for her though was too much of a “we’re trying to make her look as identical to Glenn Close as possible, but with the cartoon Cruella eyebrows” going on. Also, she was rather forgettable compared to a lot of the other OUAT villains.
@@SilverAlaunt Her origin story is still one of my favorite episodes of the whole series tho.
I know right!!! Once cruella is literally the best cruella!!! 😂
if they were going to make a sympathetic Cruella they could have shown her struggling with other addictions and her discovery of furs
Wait for Cruella 2.0
It would be better if they said it was more of a “re imagination” of cruella
@@ashkelha5882 they did
Its called cruella( meaning the how she came to be) not 101 dalmatians
@@Bafael_Reyna ohhh ok, thanks :)
I think Descendants’ Cruella is meant to show how the villains are reduced to a joke on the Isle. Once in their glory, now seen as goofy.
that plus they're poor, like when the kids get to the isle they are amazing when eating fruit-
still doesn’t explain how she became black
@@badidea932 it’s probably because Cameron Boyce was half black.
@@cherishoneal9108 That makes sense.
"Emma Stone's character feels like an entirely different person from the original conception of Cruella De Ville." You hit the nail on the head when you said that, and that's exactly why I like Emma Stone's version the best. She's actually likable to me. The original conception of Cruella was evil to the point where I'd feel more comfortable meeting Hannibal Lecter. Why? Because I understand Hannibal hating people and having a distaste for humans. But the "original conception of Cruella" who was out to kill dogs & puppies in order to make a fur coat? That on the other hand, is something I do not understand at all and I never will.
But that was the point of the franchise, there are so few strong good female villains that is the focus of the story and they took that away completely by making Emma Stone’s version of Cruella a misunderstood person that experienced tragedy and you must now sympathise with her. PC culture has changed movies so much that you either get a victimised female character or downplay a male character so the female can look strong, loving a character is great but when you love to hate a character that is when the acting is at its finest. Even Emma’s acting felt more theatrical than actual movie quality. She is a good actor in general but Hollywood is becoming sloppy and lazy with movies that we don’t need another version to fit today’s generation of dare I say it… snowflakes.
@@Jhetx bro it was literally just a different take on cruella why are you having a fucking breakdown lmao
🎯 emma 💯 best cruella
So you'd much rather meet a person who kills human beings.... 😒🙄
@@Jhetx i agree with you. Why didnt they just make a whole new character then. Over the year we had cruella who madly love fur and she was just cruel by nature.
So here’s the issue I’m seeing, and this is just my opinion: People who thought of the new Cruella movie as it’s own movie mostly seem to love it, and people who saw the movie as a reiteration or prequel of both 101 Dalmatians seem to not like it as much.
Edit: dang y’all I actually started a discussion lol
I watched the movie and I liked it. 🙄
I agree! I didn’t connect it to the other movies and highly enjoyed it! The amazing acting by Emma Stone and Emma Thompson definitely blew me away:)
There a reason why Disney said it’s not connected to any of the other versions
Yeah i didn’t connect it to the original movie and I enjoyed it
Emma fucking stone.
The Cruella movie would have made so much more sense if in the end it was revealed the whole thing was just the mad ravings of Glenn Close Cruella dictating her wildly inaccurate autobiography.
Wow... That really would be an interesting plot-twist!
This! If Disney used this idea, I would’ve liked the movie. It would make perfect sense for Cruella to edit her past.
That would have been perfect!
I adore this idea! It is now my head canon.
@@carlinemoon2484 *now?
For me when it comes to Cruella(2021) I just imagine it as an "Into the Spiderverse" situation one universe is Killing puppies Cruella, and the other is insane but fabulous Cruella, just a thought
26:29 Sure Cruella's clothing was an obvious nod to the punk rock movement, but the put together-ness of her outfits during her time before becoming Cruella shows how she wants to fit into to the high class world of fashion, and it also nods to the fact of her status as the ACTUAL heiress.
Another problem I'm seeing is the fact that people are comparing 101 Dalmations (96') and Cruella (2021), I would consider them two totally different movies and not Cruella being a prequel to the Dalmations movie but rather just Cruella's own orgin story as itself.
In my opinion Cruella is by FAR one of the best live adaptions Disney has made so far, from the fashion to the plot. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea but everything about it is good, I do agree with the fact that Anita and the boys could've been kept out or have become different characters completly (honestly Anita brought nothing to this story) but Horus and Jasper I feel brought the foundation for Estella's life.
Going back to what I said about not being able to compare the movies, Cruella using fashion as a way to embarass the Baroness shows the difference between the movies because in this one her goal wasn't power but revenge (which she got eventually) so it really made since for her whole thing to be based on making it big in fashion but then her direction changing once she finds out that the Baroness might've played a role in her mothers death.
Overall I think this movie is a great look into the FABULOUS character we know as Cruell De Vil and I feel as though it got too much hate because people really were trying to compare it rather then see it for what it was, an orgin story. That isn't to say the movie didn't have it's flaws, it defintely did but none that made the movie itself bad.
The fact that they made a Cruella De Vil movie without any fur is actually insane. It’s literally the biggest defining feature of her character
Yeah the 2021 Cruella was a letdown... could literally change the name Cruella and I wouldn’t have recognized it as such
@@Laura-Yu i wouldn’t say Cruella 2021 was a letdown at all. It was DIFFERENT but so unique. 🥰
@@elonichy2182 uh not really if you take away the Dalmatians it’s literally about a woman getting revenge
@@_i_e_g_9393 but they didn’t. but still, the movie was good. Even if it would’ve just been a woman getting revenge. Her story was quite the twist.
They couldn't have done that, if the audience was to LIKE the character, she simply CANNOT be a dog killer. What did you want?? That Disney romanticized and made a movie about a character who kills dogs? So they needed to do something new, with Cruella not being a dog killer, and that turned out pretty good, in my opinion.
I agree it was so dumb making Anita's maiden name 'darling' - like everyone knows that it was just cruella calling her darling
Yeah, I think same :(
Also there’s already a Wendy Darling
The original it was mr and Mrs dearling
The dogs call them the darlings!!!
Everything on the 2021 is dumb but is enjoyable
Glenn Close’s version is a queen while Emma Stone’s version is a princess. Love them both, one just fits more
Glen Close's portrayal of Cruella De'Vil LITERALLY made Cruella my favorite Disney villain of all time!
Disney: we don’t wanna promote anything bad
Disney: *doesn’t use (faux) fur*
Also Disney: *uses (faux) leather*
But faux fur more promotes fur as fashion prices, faux leather is quite common now and people aren’t going to stop using it since it’s so essential for shoes and jackets.
Hahahaha oh man, nailed it
I said to my husband, they could've used faux fur the entire time so no animals would've been harmed.
Pleather is a synthetic fabric and the production of it is bad for the environment
For some reason in my mind using leather is slightly better because they kill the animal for meat anyway and i rather them use all the animal so nothing is wasted while as fur is usually killing the animal for fashion only. Idk its sad either way
"Well, darling, I live for furs, I worship furs" - Me after making a coat out of a rug

I LOVE Emma stones cruella de vil. Though it doesn't have alot of the original/traditional traits that she used to, it's such a great character! I love it. She's just so....sassy and fierce!
Can't beat Glenn Close! She did a fantastic job of portraying Cruella De Vil. In fact, too real.
Glenn Close's version of Cruella is just magnificent. That laugh and shout really terrified me till this day
Agreed she scared me as A kid lol . Emma's version was about more of the fashion I think she did alright. I grew up with Glenn in my opinion she's Cruella Im scared of her lol not Emma.
sorry but i disagree , she sucked
Of course we’re not scared of Emma’s version. Her Cruella is the YOUNGER version who is different from her older selves.
The Glenn’s version is just incredible. From her acting to the fashion everything was PERFECT. The OUAT’s version was good for the show. She did a great job.
And that laugh christ it just screamed evil

11:45 THANK YOU for spreading the word and giving Ever After High the respect it deserves
As someone who absolutely loved the Cruella movie, I will say that Glenn Close is my favorite Cruella as well. I think that as a separate thing, Cruella is pretty awesome, but the true Villain version will always be the ones with Glenn Close for me. Partly because of my own bias as they came out when I was young, but also because of all the reasons mentioned in this video, which i agree with
I think the descendants outfits look cheap and overuse leather (alex meyers made this joke and called the isle, the island of leather) but i really liked D2 outfits and the clothes some Aurodon students wear throughout are good too.
i love alex meyers
The Isle of Cheap Faux Leather
D2 is superior as a whole period
People would not get mad! I’m mean the credits literally tell you no animals were harmed during the making of this film which includes the fake fur coats. We KNOW she’s the villain we KNOW furcoats are wrong?
Shockingly, one of the Descendants novels or “guidebooks” gave an excuse for this. Leather is one of the only fabrics that consistently gets shipped to the Isle, forcing the villains to make do. Both Evie and Uma’s tie-in diaries mention how difficult it is to make decent clothes on the Isle from the literal scraps they get thrown. I still agree with you though. Leather is tight, hot, heavy, and not good for sneaking around in.
I actually love the story of Cruella in OUAT. They turned the redemption arc on its head. She gets the usual treatment, until you realize she was tricking the audience all along and was just an insane woman with a love of power. The fact that what she considered her happy ending was regaining the ability to harm people was, in my opinion, genius. I was genuinely shocked by the fact that they let her be pure, untainted evil, and the story we had been given as basis for "redemption" were all her doing (spoilers: killing her own stepfathers, terrifying her mother until her mother got guard dogs to protect herself, killing her mother, etc.). Her hair bothered me, but the makeup made sense to me.
What’s the elaborated version of that?
I agree. The actress did such an incredible job that I could ignore that the makeup and hair wasn't perfect. Plus I love that they made her truly evil because anyone who wants to kill animals is truly evil.
It kinda like a deconstruction of Wicked and other sympathetic villain trope.
I liked the makeup- not artistically, but I thought it matched her fashionable-yet-unhinged personality perfectly.
I see the problem some people have with the make up and hair, but I have always thought that's what Cruella would have looked like. For me she's the most solar in aspect to the original. And i liked her story too, it tricked me lol
The backstory of Cruella showed how she was before the obsession. It showed a different phase of her life ❤️
Glen’s wardrobe is still untouchable compared to the others, and her performance was spectacularly legendary. ✨
The whole bit about the ink and the quill is probably a reference to the original book where she gets expelled from college for drinking a pot of ink
icky
icky
A what?
What?! Whyyy
Uhhhh
OUAT’s Villains were mostly victims whose stories were untold, then there’s Cruella, she’s just evil for evil’s sake.
That’s what I was thinking when watching lol
Almost every villain from disney's movies are pure evil. Malegicent cursed little child just because she wasn't invited, and not only that, but tortured prince and killed eho knows hpw many people. People thinks that Cruella is most evil just because she skins animals. Of course, that's bad, bit compared to killing humans and cursing young children, she is by far the most good villain...
@@geraltofrivia7456 I agree with that, but we are talking about the show “Once Upon A Time” and they have pretty good backstories there
@@geraltofrivia7456 As a history enthusiast I will point here that in that times, when the king and queen did the party they invited everyone BUT her, that was an absurd of as insult.
What I liked about Cruellas backstory episode is that they set you up to think she’s going to be a victim and then pull the rug out from under you revealing her as an apologetic manipulating, evil murderer
“I’m Just Getting STARTED, Darling.”
- Estella Von Hellman, A.KA. “Cruella” De Vil, 2021
Glenn close was always my favorite creulla, the way she portrayed her was beautifully done
Glenn Close's portrayal of Cruella De Vil is unmatched, because she brought something to the character, where you still hated her but you couldn't stop watching her.
The love to hate is something I don’t get most of the time but I certainly did with Glenn playing Cruella . She was that brilliant.

Glenn Close’s portrayal will always have a special place in my heart. She brought out the most insane nuances of the character. As a child I remember being both fascinated and terrified by her as Cruella.
Miss Glenn Close of course... she portrayed the character perfectly and she's fabulous 👠
emma stones cruella was going so well, until the scene where she wears a damlatian coat but turns out she didnt kill the dogs. it wouldve been amazing to see she kills the dogs, loses her childhood friends due to that, is left alone, and become similar to baroness, the person she hates the most, she then inherits the massive fortune from her mother and is left alone, with her expensive clothing and fur! There was no fur obsession in the film and cruella didnt do anything wrong, which makes her NOT a villain
Well, we dont know that yet. Im still young. ~Cruella 2021
Well because its disney, they wouldnt be able to straight out show us or even tell us that she killed them. However, if she gave use a smirk or just not said anything at all and completely changed the conversation. i Think i would have liked that better. This Cruella is so watered down.
The movie is still great, but they shouldn’t take away the fact that she’s an actual villain who killed animals
it implies at the end what she will do cause she says smth like “i’ve got lots of things planned”
I feel like others just want something to complain about because it’s Disney, but we can’t deny the movie was amazing with its acting, consumes, and plot. Many say that the issue is making a villain seem good, but that’s not true, this is her backstory of how she became a villain, after all no one is truly bad, what may seem bad to you seems good to others. The only issue is she never did what the whole story was about and why she was a villain, which was kill the puppies. That’s a missing point they should have checked on.
Cruella asking the beast if he comes mid-sized was the funniest thing I've ever heard from her
House of Mouse had some great writing.
“No spots!? No spots at all what a horrid little white rat ÆGH!”
In my opinion I laughed too much at that line
I feel like Cruella 2021 should’ve never been a prequel story, because one of the reasons Cruella de Vil is so iconic is because of how evil and unapologetic she is
It wasn’t a prequel. It’s been clarified many times that it wasn’t.
@@nativenewyorker3144 my point still stands, cruella shouldnt be the same character

I was under the impression that Emma Stones cruella was a completely new take on the character. And as a new take i love it. If she's supposed to be connected to the original then that's too bad.
She’s not. Disney said it’s not connected to the original. Many people didn’t know that and that’s why they didn’t like it.
The bait and switch of the OUAT Cruella's backstory where you think they're making her sympathetic but then she just goes full on evil anyway was so good... Unlike most of the villains in OUAT, Cruella is evil because Cruella is evil
Exactly!!
She was my absolute favorite.
The pure evil she’d be a better dark lord than rumple
She’s pretty much the ONLY ouat antagonist that doesn’t get a redemption arc. Love that for her ❤️❤️
Seeing cameron boyce in the descendants b-roll makes my heart break into pieces.
same here QwQ
I was like "Rest in piece, Cameron." when I saw him.
Legit started crying. He meant so much to me growing up
I still can't believe it tbh. I only saw the first film, but he seemed like a good kid and a promising actor. 😔
Who is he?
The best part of Glenn Close's portrayal of Cruella is that she wore the final outfit from the first film to its premiere, shocking everyone. Absolute queen move on her part. Imo her performance hard carries both films with how incredibly watchable her hammy evil without nuance is.
I loved Cruella The movie because it shows that her character can survive without trying to murder puppies BUT I do agree with the decendants vote I also personally loved Cruella from One Upon a time
If I could have any film wardrobe, it would be Glenn Close’s from 101 & 102 Dalmatians. Everything she wore she looked DIVINE in 🖤🤍
Interesting Choice of word...
Oh absolutely!!!
I would recommend "What A Way To Go", everything Shirley McLain wears (and doesn't wear) in that film is DIVINE! Edith Head was a miracle worker. If I could get my hands on that wardrobe, I'd wear them to every function - even barbecues! 🤣
The fact that we didnt have ONE Vivienne Westwood outfit in the cruella film was a CRIME
Also is someone else sus on how did they made the biggest capitalism inspired villan a anti establishment punk??? Because god bless Disney say anything bad about capitalism
We did have LV tho because apparently Emma Stone is their girl 😒
My personal head canon is that once Estella/Cruella inherited all the money she was content to become a part of The Establishment and decided to use her anger on greed and outrageous fashion instead of sticking it to The Man. You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain.
@@ep3989 actually there were references of Vivienne Westwood outfits mostly on her earlier years as she was a punky kid. A fashion historian made a vid about it.
You are so weird about this… just enjoy the movie 😩

Another wonderfully frightening version of Cruella is on the 2021 101 Dalmatian Street cartoon. She's vaguely hinted at throughout the show but finally appears in person in the season 1 finale. It's easily one of the darkest incarnations of her. She's pretty much a walking corpse in this one, only still clinging to life due to her thirst for vengeance. I really recommend looking up the clip where she enters the Dalmatians' house. It's straight out of a horror movie.
To me, the one from Once Upon a Time is the best I’ve seen so far
Her storyline was great and the actress was terrifying
Glenn Close is still the most iconic rendition for me. Her outfits. Everything about her was Cruella more so than even the animated character. Her entrance into House of DeVil is iconic. Her statement “More good women are lost to marriage than war, famine, and disease.” 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿 Call her many things, but iconic is one of them.
I feel like Anita's last name being "Darling" makes Crueller seem more condescending. She's basically making fun of her name, not just saying her full name like a personality quirk.
I agreeeeeeee
*Cruella
Super cool video! Can’t wait for future video that goes more in depth about the outfits! Super excited!
I can’t really count it as a prequel as well, because it goes different, like, the end scene sort of confused me, cuz, it was, like, you get them dogs and then you steal them afterwards. The two friends she goes along the movie later on becomes the dudes on call, when she needs the dirty work to be done. I really like the movie itself, and it more reminds me of Maleficent, which also had an alternate ending, totally different apart from one seen in the animation. And, tbh, I love both, cuz that was an unexpected turn in both cases. I think this new Cruella takes different path as the new Maleficent, even tho just keeping same path wouldn’t change the interest as it would go, like, where did it all start from. Should they do this with both, Cruella and Maleficent? I guess, no. Did I liked both new versions? Totally, yes!
Disney clearly has changed paths for these villains, they have become more likeable (which surely is an arguable part, should they really do it), but we also live in a world where people do understand that villains as characters has more potential and story behind. Ofc, obeying villains is a different story, but these movies has got me more than the plain live replicas of animations for The Beauty and the Beast or Aladdin, which were great, yet again they’re legit replica to what we already saw in the animations. I could give a credit to Cinderella, it excluded all the musical, if I remember correctly, was sort of hoping they would do the same with other two I mention before.
I really like the new take on Cruella as on Maleficent - a movie/story with a new twist, and it’s great itself, but I’m also not going to deny that Close’s given character is just iconic! 90s kids gonna remember it forever, I guess. 👀
Are we sure the “punk rock” scene isn’t just Disney’s misinterpretation of glam rock?
It's definitely more glam than punk, and neatly eschews most of the counterculture that the movement actually represented in the 70s. I liked the movie a lot, but Disney calling this punk is silly.
That's what I've been telling my family lol
Glam was there before punk, but the makers of Cruella just assumed it was all the same because it was England in the 70s popularizing an underground American style
@@evapalma9899 Punk only came into the scene after Mclaren went to New York and saw how we did it. You're welcome, London. But definitely agree this is more Glam. The flair is there.
I really like how Once Upon a Times Cruella has absolutely no redeeming character arch but I think I’ll always love the original Cruella from the animated movie.
I love that the OUAT Cruella had a part where you thought she was at one time good but then it’s revealed that she was always evil.
@@MaddysinLeigh that's true! I loved how her story made you think that she was the victim at first. Her poor mom!
@@J.P.Robles yes but they mean more giving her the backstory
The part where she donned the coat of dog skin was so chilling to watch.
if you watch cruella on its own without comparing it to the other films, its actually a really good movie with a character that has multiple sides and layers and i think its the only film in which they take a deep dive into her character
Your channel and the Be Kind Rewind channel are just the best gifts from above. Thank you. I love you, so, so much.
In “cruella” the other woman literally looks more like a cruella devil to me than stella 😂
If you realized she wa sthe one who made up the rumor that Stella killed her dogs to make a coat, just to tarnish her reputation and make people dislike her. She was the one who created Cruella public image and Stella doesn't mind it at all
Me too, the baroness looks more like cruella😂
That’s because the lady is her mom and is older. When Stella gets older she will look like her mom

“Cruella is one of the better disney live action remakes”
Proceeds to trash the movie in every way possible
That just talks on how horrible low the standard is for Disney remakes
I dont think I'd even mind the cruella movie tbh. The problem is that its seems so obviously a cash grab and would've worked alone as a movie about an entirely different character so w that lurking in my mind it makes it seem harder to watch.
@@alabamaslammer3921 ngl, I liked the movie because the outfits were good and the storyline kept you in the theatre because it was so complicated in the background history constantly changing, and the story changes for the movie was good because it's sorta like a split personality but I have y agree if you didn't watch the original movies or read the book or it had a different MC it would've been better
Also, proceeds to hate how they ret-conned Cruella's story and motivations but liked Disney ret-conning Maleficent's story and motivations.
@@aarien_of_aurolyth is stupid to make ret conned Cruella and maleficent back stories and motivacions. Neither character needed a Sympathetic backstory in the First place
Cruella is a Cruel Devil, thats literally the point. If you’ve seen Starkid’s Twisted- every other villain has a sympathetic twist, except Cruella bc she wanted to make a coat of puppies! Thats evil beyond sense!
The award goes to Glenn Close; she had the range, she really got in character, and she scared ppl which is who Cruella is. Emma’s version was more so a little too soft because the director wanted us to see the human side of her and why she was what we know her to be…. The villain. But Glenn Close for sure; she should teach master classes. Her acting is top notch
Descendents Cruella feels more like she's make a better Yzma to me
That's funny you say that because, after seeing the clips of Cruella from Descendants, I thought the actress was trying to do an impression of Eartha Kitt who was the voice of Yzma
"Unfortunately" the idea of using Cruella as the antagonist to The Rescuers was scrapped" I wouldn't say unfortunately, I think Madame Medusa fits the setting way differently. Aside from the driving, the characters are very different.
First it's just plain weird to have a prominently British character in an American movie.
Secondly, I just don't see Cruella handling herself in the swamp. I think she'd fare even worse than Yzma in the wild. Also having a middle class woman searching for a diamond makes more sense than someone who's already rich. Not that rich people are against increasing their wealth, but Cruella never seemed to care.
Medusa is also more of a manipulator than Cruella. She's all about hiding her devilish nature and trying to be more "civil", except from the fact that it didn't really work.I loved The Rescuers and it's a ton of fun as it is TBH.
Agreed. It would also just somehow feel odd that 101 Dalmatians takes place in same universe as mice who wear clothes.
Agreed. I didn't know she was intended to be the villain of Rescuers prior to this, but I'm glad we got Madame Medusa instead.
Àaw01
I agree. However, there is DEFINITELY a resemblance between Madame Medusa and Cruella Deville…you can see it throughout The Rescuers through her temper, voice inflections, and eyes.
@@foundationsofsapphiresbysa151 they probably went to the same driving school.
Bill Pete also worked on Snow White, if you’ve read his autobiography. He isn’t listed in the credits of the movie, but he did contribute. I just wanted to point it out because in his autobiography he made it clear that not being listed in the Snow White credits was a bit of a blow after all the work he had put in, so I like to remind people.
The house of mouse clips had me dying 😆 asking if beast “comes in a medium” such an icon
So ridiculous how the new version wasn’t allowed to smoke on screen! That’s half of her charm and appeal.
they replaced her long cigarette things with cool canes..i kinda like that :D
I must admit, I love the new Cruella, but the reason is, I am not someone who needs the remake to be very close or similar to the original. I really enjoyed their take on a different Cruella, I would understand why some people wouldn't be happy though, because Cruella is supposed to be evil, but again I like the change and how it's really nothing like the original Cruella. Plus I don't think this is an origin story, and I don't think she'll ever go to making the coat, because she did make it in the movie, without the real dog fur. I personally think this is just Cruella in a parallels universe. But that is just my opinion.
Right? In simple terms, it's better to think of it as an AU sort of thing. I also liked Cruella a lot, for many different reasons and would definitely watch it through again over the other ones. Not to say the others are bad or anyone is wrong for liking whatever they like, they're just not for me.
I agree, I like to think of it as a whole different story, same characters but a whole different story
Also if cruella actually did skin dogs in the movie, their reactions would be like "omg they're glorifying killing dogs!!" Tbh this film works better as a stand alone and without any connections to 101 Dalmatians whatsoever.
I have similar opinion. Additionally, in my thoughts, the OG Cruela was rised by Barones.
that was my first thought, it's Disney crating another multiverse
Once Upon a Time's Cruella is my absolute favorite. She's so mean but witty and funny, especially towards Rumple. And I think she looks exactly like how Cruella should.
You do a great job explaining yourself and your POV to us!
I'm for OUAT Cruella, she's so beautifully damaged. She is virtually the only person inherently evil and irredeemable in the whole show.
Exactly! As she should be.
I like Disney 2021
Agreed. Still, I like her.
Me too lol, glad to know I wasn’t the only one
As it should be :D
Animated version: The craziest
OUAT version: The most corrupted / The darkest
2021 version: The naughtiest
Descendants version: The "nothing but a supporting role" version, but her acting is great
The Glenn Close version: The most legendary
Very well said
The descendants version she was crazy like mental health business 😂
@@ricardoneves7307oh yes! Legendery at finest
Emma stones version will always be my favorite
and omfg Glenn's take on Cruella is also good, tbh both are amazing, but for my preference, I love Emma's version of it
13:25 I remember how there she asked to the mirror "How's the prettiest?", and she moved the tiger's mouth whispering "you~". It gave me chills as a child and I've just confirmed that still do it 😬
glenn close’s cruella is obviously iconic and I love both of the movies, BUT the job victoria did on ouat is just- her cruella is everything. both of their versions are spectacular. (and yes, ofc, the animated version is special in its own way too).
Cruella from once upon a time was iconic... She closely resembled the animated version
Anita daaarling! 😍😂

I’m not even gonna ask how good you made the intro like I could never
Very nice job on this video. I give you a lot of credit for doing your research and putting this together. I've seen other videos created by different people and I was not interested at all. Mainly because they are so limited and only pull information from trailers rather than watching the entire films and television shows. I was excited to see you talk about all versions of Cruella. Most videos on the subject of Cruella always leave out the Once Upon a Time version as well as the Descendants version. I find myself enjoying all versions of Cruella. I like seeing different writers and actors giver their own spin on the character. The recently released Cruella film is definitely a new top favorite for me. But I have to agree 101 Dalmatians with Glenn Close is definitely number one.
ModernGurlz is the definition of "I didn't know I needed this"
I often get lost in the channel. It’s sooooo good. When I watch one video, I can’t stop.😌💕
fr, i've never even had any interest in watching the 101 dalmations movies and now i just feel like cruella could possibly be one of my favourite disney villians
The fact that descendants called the boy Carlos instead of “Monestro” or “Marlvado” or anything like that is BEYOND UNFORGIVABLE
Yeah and why the hell would they give Cruella children?! She was very adamant about not having them lol.
@@RedRoseSeptember22 yeah they could of at least said she adopted him or something or have her be quite mean towards him
@@maiduncan3592 exactly! I would’ve made it that Cruella just adopted him as a ward because she needed an heir for her business
The whole universe of disendandants makes no sense they always reference parental connections, but it isn't like ever after high where they have to relive it. It just made weird interactions and dialogue. I honestly don't think any of the vilans would have had children that look like smaller versions of themselves covered in leather. I'm also adamant on the evil queen looking old as hell and never getting pregnant. Also why are they all the same age? Was that ever answered?
@@RedRoseSeptember22 in the novel she had a husband
Glenn Close will always be the best to me. The original is of course you know the original, but she nailed that role.
I used to be obsessed with descendants, so when I went to watch Cruella I loved the little easter egg. For people who don't know, in Cruella she has a dog named Buddy but that dog looks so much like Carlos's dog buddy from descendants.
OUAT’s Cruella was ruthless, sadistic, and she basked in it. She obviously enjoyed her wealth and privilege, and had a keen sense of style that was definitely a modernized version of the animated story.
Just a side note: The Glenn Close and Emma Stone versions can't be canon to each other, since one takes place in modern day (at the time) and the other is happening in the 60s. Plus Roger, Anita, and Jasper are race bent. So they dont really have to worry too much about matching each other's stories 1 for 1
Being a modern day version shouldn't be an excuse to change the details that depicted the character of Cruella .. it's kinda meh .. because isn't it obvious that nowadays everything the filmmakers do is try to change almost every animated story to fit the modern world and assume it to be a hit but doesn't works that well in reality.
Actually when it comes to time it makes sense. Cruella attended primary school in 1964 so let's say majority of the film took place 10 years later in 1974 and she was around 20. Dalmation live action premiered in 1996, so 20 years later and she could be 40 by then easly. (only the age of Roger and Anita plus their race makes no sense)
@UC6Rry2nAd2tufvJ8fCBS1e u are racist
Could you analyze the fashion in the Once Upon a Time tv show?? I want to dress like some of the characters but I don’t know exactly what I’m looking at. And I learn so much through your videos! And I feel like you could analyze both the outfits in the fairytale world and the outfits in the real world because both are ✨chef’s kiss ✨
thankyou am gonna need your Cruella summary if im asked about my fave movie during my interview😁
I agree that Cruella from Once Upon a Time is a little strange and her having magical powers is not fitting her character, but you gotta love her sass there: "I'm a really terrible person and I left her in the woods to die" (search up Cruella vs Maleficent, the delivery is magnificent)
My personal favorite line: "I see you admiring my coat. Doe skin of all things! Now I'm not saying it's Bambi's iconic dead mother....and I'm not saying it's not" 🤣🤣🤣
i just love her always saying Darling lol
@@grysnhoffman me too!
OUAT's Cruella was great! Her backstory is mad interesting and I love she had no redeeming qualities. Also her lines were spot on.
In OUAT she doesn’t have any magical power
I didn't even realize that Cruella (2021) was meant to be a prequel to the Glenn Close movies. I just figured it was heading into its own live action remake canon, and, knowing that they’ll probably try to ape the iconic parts of Glenn Close’s performance in any future movies, I like the 2021 film less in retrospect.
Cruella (in most iterations of her character) is meant to embody old money and the worst parts of capitalistic greed, and making her someone who claws her way to the top from nothing (as if they’re trying to avoid vilifying someone who was unjustly born into wealth) feels so gross when coming from a financial juggernaut like Disney
Being born into wealth isn't a crime. No one can help what they're born into. There are actually wealthy people out there who are very kind and caring ♥
@@RedRoseSeptember22 did u even read what they wrote?
They did not.
i dont think its a direct prequel tbh i think it meant to be its own thing like maleficent. If they do make some sort of 101 Dalmatians reboot it would most likely be its own canon that only correlates to cruella (2021) and none of the other films.
Love your vids of comparison so much
I have recently discovered your channel and am now binging through most of your videos haha. For me, if Emma Stone's Cruella movie was NOT a prequel and had no ties to the other disney properties, I think it would have been fine (except maybe the 'i controlled the dogs to kill your mom' subplot i just, that was so stupid for me). Was there other problems? Yeah, but it was a p fine movie. And of course, the outfits ahhh.
Really enjoyed this video. I really like how calming your voice is, and that you go into a brief description of the movie before comparing all the different adaptations ( in this and other similar comparison vids). Thanks for sharing your great insight with us in an enjoyable way!
The original cartoon will always be special because its the OG but Glenn Close is absolutely the best.
Like Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins. You can't beat them!
The original Cruella is the best. Definitely.
Glenn Close was amazing too.
i think glenn close was the best Cruella Devil
Waàaaahhh me tooo.. glenn close is loove... awesome actress plus awesome costume design plus great script is looveeee 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Betty Lou Gerson is the woman who set the bar for Cruella, the eccentric voice, 5he larger then life style and her psychotic obsessive behaviour all portrayed through her extremely distinguished voice.
I'll always deem the original to be the one who sets the stakes, live action or otherwise. ❤
I think both the animated and Glenn Close’s versions are my number 1!
This video reminded me how incredible was the costume design for the 90s live action movies
