The story behind "On golden pond" is so moving. Reconciling with your own past is really powerful and demonstrative of how beautifully intrincate human relationships can be. And she did it using as a medium what bonded both her and her father: movies.
In her documentary, Jane says that her father liked to rehearse everything before filming, but she decided to improvise something. After her father delivered his lines in the scene where they discuss their relationship, she touched his arm unexpectadly and he had to cover his face because he started crying. Very moving indeed.
She literally manifested her healing moment for both of them and all those who watched the movie.
Not to objectify Jane or any woman, and I LOVED her performance in On Golden Pond...but her body in that movie! She was about my age and THAT blows my mind. I love the way she and Robert Redford have a great personal and private bond.
As a woman who was abandoned by her father as a little girl, her describing the experience of making a movie with him, really made me cry.
I did not know that about her father.. I too had a father that shared very little emotions and love with his daughter.. May he rest in peace now..I know I have!
She recalls over 5 decade old memories like it was yesterday. So sharp and impressive.
She's 85, not 105. It's not typical to not be sharp enough to recall things at that age. My grandparents are in their 90s and are just as sharp as her. It's funny how so many people expect older people to be.

@@9melissal I don't think a lot of younger people can really understand how much can happen in fifty years. I think they were trying to say it was impressive that she's done so much in all that time and is able to remember it all so clearly. I'm 25, and I don't think I could remember major moments in my life like she can with such detail.
she is so amazing, what a LIFE she has had! She saw so much, did so much, learned and pushed herself. Most of us never do HALF the living she did with the energy she did it with.
she just has, and always had the ability to transfer true emotion through the camera. even her interviews make me tear up.
She should get the Kennedy center honor this year. She defied the establishment and became one of the few actresses that had portrayed three dimensional female characters back in the 60s and 70s, which was rare in Hollywood back in the day. She would make history as the first child of a previous Kennedy Center Honoree, her late Father Henry Fonda, to receive one as well. Her roles have been personally uncompromising in its depth and quality. Despite having a legendary actor for a father, she managed to be successful in her own right and have longevity in this cutthroat business and influence actresses who came after her.
I feel like she never will get that honor bc if she did, a lot of Americans would be upset by it bc of the whole Vietnam War situation. It’s sad if that’s the reason bc she definitely does deserve one.
@@Christine-ne4yf I understand that but she did receive the afi life achievement award and Cecil b demille award and nobody raised major objections and started any protest and picketing around both of those ceremonies. So she’ll be fine. She already apologized for her actions repeatedly.

I didn't think bad of her back then, because I was so young and loved everything that she had done. And today I still don't think and feel bad about Jane Fonda. Jane Fonda is a literal icon. She is a movie star, and and the queen of activism and trying to make the world better for everyone. She is one of the ones who walks the walk and talks the talk. I absolutely adore this legend. She's a role model for everyone.

@@cjordan1161 Let it go, she's profusely apologized for any gaffes she made about Vietnam Nam but we all wanted to know why we were there and our government was lying to us. I protested as did my friends who were drafted. My uncle had to go so I do have skin in this game. She's an extraordinary actress and an exemplary human being and she's one of the few people in the world that sincerely apologizes when wrong.

I have loved and respected Jane Fonda for more years than I can remember. To say that she inspires me is an understatement. A major contribution that Jane Fonda has made in my life is the knowledge that we can continue to grow and improve our lives at all stages of life.
I've grown up with Jane Fonda. Yes, I turned 75 this year. I've seen most of her movies. I'm so in love with "Grace and Frankie"! Jane and Lily are doing an unbelievable acting job on this series!! So natural, so funny, it's like their doing it in real life! I've also been a huge fan of Lily Tomlin through the years. They are both meant for their parts. You've done a wonderful job on this UA-cam video history of your career Jane. Thank you so much for sharing your life and career with all of us!! Jane Fonda has given at least 2 or 3 performances that I think are the best ever recorded to film. Clearly one of the top 5 actresses the US has ever produced. A performance like Klute would win in almost any year.

Barefoot in the park is one of my all time favorite movies. I've been watching it since my mom introduced me to it as a kid and still love it!

This woman looks younger with every year that passes. You go girl! Keep making your voice heard for all the right causes and the under dogs of this world. I have admired you since Vietnam. I was a teenager then and that war was so unpopular. I remember back then you got a lot of bad press for your take on Vietnam, but you did it anyway. I have always admired you ever sine.
Not a fan of the lips being plumped and the lift but yes it can make a person look less old.
We use the words “legend” and “icon” to readily now. SHE is the embodiment of both-not too mention grace, wit, confidence and beauty.

I mean I remember watching “9 to 5” as a kid and just loving the story, the chemistry of Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton. It was an important film in cinema because it discussed society and its treatment of women in the workplace. Now here I am being such a fan of “Grace and Frankie”, loving the story, their chemistry, the timely storyline and most of all how to survive and be happy even as you get older and life deals you a hand you didn’t see coming. I appreciate her narrative of her life journey in film.
I always love whatever Jane does I think she is a fantastic actress!
Grace and Frankie has turned out to be one of my favourite series. I loved it and sooooo sad it ended. Season 8, you think Jane?

I grew up thinking she was a dopey aerobics instructor and she's actually one of the greatest living activists who made fitness videos just because she wanted to bankroll her programs for social change. She is a hero and deserves to be seen as such.

I met her once on site when I worked on grace and Frankie she was the kindest most honest and open individual and she gathered a bunch of young girls and she insisted that we vote that we never let anybody especially the government silence our voices she instilled that we pay attention to the news and then we read the newspaper and we don't get caught up on trends because the classics will always be in style and she always said be very careful how you treat people because karma is real.
One of the few actors/ celebrities that actually deserve to be called "Icon"

VF always seems to skip my favorite film in this series and in this case it's Julia, for I'm of the mind that the scene in the restaurant between Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave is possibly the most extraordinary piece of acting between two women ever to be captured on film.

I never realized how versatile she is. Every performance is different. You can't say that for most actors out there. I teared up a bit when she spoke of her father. You can definitely understand why she picked partners that she deferred to, she was always looking for male approval. Jane, we ALL approve.

My favorite movie of hers growing up was "The doll maker" Set in the depression and such a great story of struggle and loss and finding happiness again. (I see two little girls in your eyes ma! Well thats you hunny! Me and Callie Lou) ugh.... rip my heart out. She is an ICON.

She’s extremely gorgeous! I first saw her in Monster-in-law, my Hispanic family watched because of JLo but really fell in love with Jane. Her role was iconically fierce, it really made us laugh on how savage she was. Now we watch it on a monthly basis for movie night or even background sound.

My brother got to interview her for the AJC while she was leading rallies in Atlanta. I was so jealous and amazed he would get to talk to her and hear her story in person. What a complete badass.

She has profusely apologized if she made any gaffes. Bet that special name for her was created by our own government to discount her and what she was trying to do. My one uncle had to go there so despite being against the war my own family was involved in it too. Simply calling her that is a cheap shot and basely ignorant.

When i was a teen, i remember watching Monster in Law for Jennifer Lopez at the time, but after the film, i remember thinking Jane Fonda was really the stand out.
Of all Jane's great movies, "Comes A Horsemen" has always been the one that moved me to my core.
Yes, there were a couple omissions here that I was surprised to NOT see.
