Just finished replacing this fuel filter. Very difficult job. Not much room work and hard to even see what I was doing. Very difficult to put back together. Had to Mcgiver it a little but got it done. Sad part is how bad the old filter was. I paid a dealer twice to replace that filter but by the looks of it I suspect they said they did but didn't. It's just to hard to do. With my Mcgiver trick it's easy to do now so no problem in the future. Thanks Also: changing that filter smoothed out the idle on my motor so that bad filter very much effected the performance of my Mercruiser.
@WhitehouseFarmVet hey I have a question? So even if the engine never turns over the pump should still be pushing out SOME gas right? I'm trying to figure out if the pump took a crap & need help
Trying to get my boat running. I did all plugs (have spark on both sides), sucked the tank clean & refueled, did filters & cleaned all terminals on the entire thing. I have air in the gas line going from the pump up to the carb
If you have air it will eventually clear out unfortunately it will take trying to start it for a while to get gas up to the carb, if you can take the spark arrestor off the top of the carburetor and have someone turn the key and you should start to see fuel coming out in the carburetor, you can also spray some starter fluid down the carburetor to help, just be careful and always have a fire extinguisher nearby just in case! Good luck let me know how you make out!
@@WhitehouseFarmVet what state are you in. I’m in middle TN. Hard to find a boat mechanic that will work on this 1986 120 merc. Imma learning. Great videos.
You seam to have a very similar engine to mine. Have you done a video on changing the thermostat? All the ones I see on UA-cam are different than mine.
No but when I do I will let you know seems like I replaced just about everything else on it hahahhaha, thank you for watching and I'll keep you posted click the bell for future videos!
Car mechanic put an electronic ignition in. It runs 1700 rpms and drops dead. I don’t think he knew what he was doing. I don’t know if the boat ran okay before this. I just bought this boat. Prob change fuel filter tonight.

No the engine needs to crank over to get fuel, it's a mechanical fuel pump so every time the engine cranks it moves the fuel pump to push gas!

Lol I'm in NY , there is got to be someone down there that can help you try any of the dealerships?
You can even try posting something on craigslist you might get lucky and find someone that knows what they are doing
@@WhitehouseFarmVet if it’s 15 years or older they won’t work on it. This is a 1987 Thunder Craft with a mercruiser 120.
Is this the 305 5.0 Merc engine?
No it's the 3.0
Having the hardest time finding part number for the 5.0 305
I'll do some digging around and get back to you hopefully with a part number,so just the fuel filter not the separator correct?
